Thanks Joan! Though of course I've been applying for work all along (requirement for unemployment), it hasn't been real to me that my benefits could run out without my finding a job until it got this close. At this point I've given up on worrying about what I want and I'm just trying to find something - 3 movie theaters and a grocery store this week. I've also applied for an emergency extension of unemployment - though I hate to do it...

Well, I'm headed out to finish C25K week 3 - will log miles when I get home (always end up walking a couple of extra miles afterward - we all know how I love to rack up miles, after all.

Jan, Ann - please try to keep the hilarity to a minimum lest you scare those bears!

I'm still under the weather from the weekend of the migraine. No cardio for me yesterday and very likely none today. I have just over 5 miles to complete this month. I'm sure I'll get it done, but it'll be later this week.

This week is turning out to be a challenge for getting cardio done. Too many meetings filling the days. And too hot and humid for outside except early in the morning. Early in the morning is strength training...and I would hate to encounter the fox who lives in the nearby park at dawn. So, I did get up to the fitness center when my 4 to 5pm meeting ended. Did the elliptical. I'll have to figure out when I jog on the treadmill tomorrow. I hope maybe at 4pm. We'll see.

RUTHE - nice that you got to chill out, so to speak, at a hotel. Sounds like a good camping trip.

Sunday was a rest day for me. Plus a little bit of cooking ahead for the week. I cut up a bunch of the beautiful plum tomatoes I bought at the farmers market along with some fresh farmers market yellow pepper, some vidalia onions and some kalamata olives and threw in some of my home grown lime basil, plus ground pepper, balsamic vinegar and a dash of olive oil and made some crunchy salad, sort of, for the week. Had some with lunch today. Cooked some whole wheat pasta, and with the rotisserie chicken I'll have some cold chicken and pasta salad for later in the week.

Ran today. A good run on the treadmill.

We are camping in the UP of Michigan. However, it's raining today and we decided to take a day in a hotel to dry out. It's been great though and I have actually been lazy. The weather up here is low 70's so quite pleasant compared to home (southwest lower Michigan) where it is stil around 90.

Good going Jan! If I ever get to the point where I want to run in an organized 5K, I'm going to look for one where the results from the previous year makes me think I might place. I'm so slow...It'll have to be an obscure race.

Ann, I like your weather mostly, but I need blue sky.

Lots of distance covered today. Ran first thing - 3 miles, then walked with a friend, then walked over to the nearby park later in the day with the thought of watching some softball games - Pony 12U and 14U softball tournament. But there have been thunderstorms coming through the area and I thought better of it and walked home. Good thing, cause the skies opened up about 10 minutes after I got home.

For at least 90% of the year we have it much easier than any of you. It rarely snows here, our humidity is usually low (even when its raining, which I don't understand at all), and we rarely get into the 80s for more than a few days a year. Yes, its gray here about 9 months a year (that it rains constantly is a myth - we have to tell the rest of you that its awful here or you'll all move here, but it is gray for months on end) and it seems as though its constantly dark during the winter because we're so far north, but this time of year... Today it was sunny and beautiful, in the 70s, light by 6 am and it'll be light until after 10 pm. This is why we put up with all those months of gray!

On the theme of A/C, I do have A/C in my house. I have lived in a house in NC in the summer without A/C. It's not fun - so I feel for you Carleen and Ann.

In the last 30 days, all but 5 have had temperatures over 90 degrees. And we get humidity to go along with that. When it's just 90, I feel like we've gotten a break in the heat! And to make things worse, except for those 5 wonderful days of temps below 90, we don't cool off at night -- it's in the low to mid 70s at night.

Anyway enough on the weather. Yesterday was a day off and today I did an easy but somewhat long elliptical session. I'll run in the morning tomorrow, or at least that's the plan.

We are right there with the heat wave--suppose to hit 100* today and tomorrow, but luckily we do have A/C at home. My poor oldest Son who is in the Army reserves has to march in a parade tomorrow in full uniform, so I don't envy him. I'll be running tomorrow morning up the canyon where it is about 10* cooler, in a 5 miler. Then a drive home and up another canyon tomorrow night to a concert at Park City at Deer Valley Resort(where they had some of the 2002 Winter Olympics). They said to bring blankets & sweatshirts!

No a/c at my house either. On Wednesday, it was near 100 degrees and humid. So my kids (ages 17,19, and 21) and my DH looked for the public library that was open the latest into the evening and hung out there for a few hours after work. We are such geeks!

My family has been enjoying alot of family time lately. Must be because it is summer and our schedules are more free in the evenings and no one is really interested in TV reruns (no cable). We have been hanging out together, playing games and going to the library. Tonight the kids and I will be reading some new handbell music. We think it's fun even if other think it is goofy.

That does sound good, and like a fun place for your daughter to spend the summer. Last week our temps were up in the 80s. We usually only get there once each summer, though last year was hot for much longer than that. Yes, we're wimps, but we also have no a/c. I think the libraries, movie theaters, and retail stores around about the only buildings that have it here, so when the temps climb they really start encouraging people to spend a lot more time at their local library to keep from getting overheated. I friend of mine said that last summer she kept taking her kids to see the same movie over and over again. In any case, we're back down into the 70s here, where we belong. Owl, you're doing really well, as I know your knee has been bothering you a lot!

Since I don't have anything scheduled for a while, I'm finally doing C25K. Just finished W1D2.

I notice that the weather has been nice in Glacier lately. 50's at night, 70's during the day. Sounds nice. I have been reading that there are impromptu musician gatherings around the area. My daughter asked me to send her flute with her last package. I hope she is getting a chance to improvise and enjoy sharing her music.

Had to work from home this afternoon so that a repair guy could come by to look at the NEW dishwasher. It's under warranty, so that's good and the problem is simple and basically mechanical, so I feel good about the fix that'll take place when the part comes in next week. Consequently, I went for a walk. Too humid to run.

I have been doing strength exercises recommended by the doc and I feel better after yoga, too. I wonder if there is a piece of cartilage floating around in there and sometimes it gets in the way and inflames the tissue.

My bike has been in the shop for a tune-up and I should have it back soon. I have been thinking it is time for some biking to work, maybe the shorter routes at first and see how things feel.

Went with DH & the dog hiking yesterday even though it was pretty warm. The sun stayed behind the clouds for most of the way out to the waterfall, but then came out blazing on the way back, which the dog didn't like at all. Had to carry him about 1/2 mile, and then DH carried him for awhile, and we made it back home. Poor dog was exhausted and just laid on the grass in the back yard--didn't even want to go inside to get a drink. No more walks for him until it's cooler outside.

Carleen - it's good to see you! I hope that knee starts recovering. The rest will help I'm sure, and are there perhaps some exercises for strengthening around the knee?

I've been slack on strength training - it's the thing I am least consistent about. How about everyone else? How do you manage to work it in?

Elliptical today. Had to get it done in the morning. I'm in meetings from 1 to 5, and then I go to lower brass practice - all tubas & euphoniums. We're preparing some things to play in church on the 18th of this month. This is our second to last practice.

I love Glacier National Park. In fact, my daughter is working at East Glacier Lodge this summer as a server. It is her third summer there and she really likes it, although cell phone and internet access is spotty.

I am taking an extended break from walking and biking, so I probably won't reach the lowest goal, but I will give it an effort. My knee is feeling better everyday, although I still have pain. Since it is so humid (it's not the heat, it's the humidity emoticon doncha know), the city bus has been my best friend (air conditioned!).

Actually Ann, the car thermometer read 103 on the way home. I haven't watched the news to see if we set a record. I'll just read the paper in the morning. At the moment, it's 9:15 PM or so, and I am TIRED! So, it's off to bed with me.

Alternately goofed off and did chores after church yesterday. I'm slowly moving things back into the parts of the house where the renovation work is done. I'm a book-a-holic, so that's presenting a problem. Why can't I get rid of any of them!?!?! Actually I have a large box of math texts that I'm going to give to a graduate school friend of mine who teaches at a local university. That'll help.

Got up this morning and walked around the lake with my Saturday walking friend. Then did a run in the park near my house. The running was around 3 miles.

Hi All! What a fun trip you've found!

I think I'll go for the gusto and walk the 96 miles from St. Ignatius, MT to Glacier National Park. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL country up there!!

I'm new to the team and to the challenge so I'm just jumping in here. I decided to start low to get a feel for how many miles I will do in a month. I picked Swan Lake because I live about 3-4 miles from a Swan Lake.

Swan Lake to Glacier National Park - 55 miles

I'm going for a slightly lower mileage goal this month as I feel like I need to run more. However, running more for me ends up meaning slightly fewer miles as I need to incorporate a few more rest days. So for July I'm going to do - 71 miles - Polson, MT to Glacier National Park.

We're hiking in Montana in July. Ann suggested we try a National Park since we're celebrating Independence Day this month. I'm an East Coaster and have never been to Montana, so this is my virtual chance! I hope others will come along too.
