Rotten cold. It fooled me by allowing me to run on Wednesday and then hit me Thursday with a vengeance. Not so great today either. But so far it's just a cold so I did elliptical to try to clear out my head. It was only vaguely successful from that perspective.

I am 112% done with a final total of 82 miles.

Owl, there's no way I could run that distance, for just that reason. Walking that far will be hard enough on my knees... at least this course doesn't have too many hills, at least for those of us used to Seattle.

Had one of those runs today that started out really blah and my legs felt heavy, but in the end I actually covered a bit more distance in the same time. Glad I stuck with it.

Owl - congratulations on the new bike. I've been riding a hybrid off and on for several years. I like it on the streets and on firmly packed dirt. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks, VB, for the May walk. Should be fun!

Ann, that marathon sound great! I wish my knee was in shape to do something like that.

But I did buy a new bike this week, so I will be riding more than ever. The old one was a mountain bike put together from several bikes. The new one is a hybrid. Much easier to ride. Maybe I won't burn as many calories, but I certainly will ride more.

It is supposed to rain on Thursday and Friday, so maybe I will try walking, instead of taking the bus, to get to my goal.

While in a particularly boring meeting I've looked at a map of Tahiti. It's not an overly large place. So, I think that in order to get big miles in, we'll all have to sign up for multiple hikes in Tahiti. I'll work on that later today.

later...
I was debating about running versus elliptical, but the forecast mentioned chance of showers, so I stayed inside and did the elliptical. I'm at the festival.

Thanks for the encouragement, both of you! I finished it - need to get my speed up a little, but I'm getting there. My goal is to finish and not get kicked off the course, and the race isn't until June 26, so I think I'll get there.

LOL! I'll be walking a full marathon in June, the Seattle Rock 'N' Roll. This week is 16 miles, the next week is 18, and then I'll have 2 20 mile weeks. I'm pretty fast, but that many miles is still a serious time commitment!I'm not counting on finishing the event in less than 7 hours.

Wow Jan. I haven't been back running long enough to be able to do what you did. Good job.

I left work when my meeting ended at 5pm and did a run into the nearby park. Temps were perfect here - low 70s and low humidity. It was a great run. Felt real good.

As part of my training for the relay in June, I was to do two runs withing 8-12 hours of each other. Did 4.5 miles last night on the hilly, dirt road and then 3.5 miles this at 6:00 this morning on the street with hills again. Much easier to run on the street, but still the legs are tired. Guess I better do these double runs next week & maybe find some flat pavement to run on.

Jan - love your strength training technique. I'd take it up myself, but I've been pet free for several years now and not ready to take that on again yet.

Owl - glad you had a good camping trip.

Ann - you're racking up those miles. Awesome!

Elliptical today and then I rode on the exercise bike just to mix things up. I'm not counting that mileage though.

So this is what my horoscope said, in part this morning. (I read this for fun. It's not my guide to life.)

"Make some time for play time." Then it went on to discuss chores/work in the morning.

So I have this good friend with whom I hike when our schedules permit. His horoscope, in part said "A short trip with cheerful experts can restore your morale and revitalize your energies."

So I called him, read him these portions of our horoscopes and we went for a lovely hike in the local state park. Then we visited the farmers market - asparagus & strawberries for me and four tomato plants for him. I'm looking forward to a bounteous tomato harvest this summer.

Good job on the strength training, Joan! That's what I need to get back into, as it does help on maintaining the weight and certainly helps on losing those inches.

I left work at a reasonable hour and went for a run when I got home. Nice! emoticon

I did strength training yesterday - upper body. I do better maintaining my weight when I do strength training. I have been slacking on that due to sinus infection in February, laziness & allergies in March. Time to get going again. I will be doing some core strength exercises after I finish posting this.

I am doing the 53 mile walk, Abbotsford, BC, Canada to Mount Vernon, WA. It will be a stretch, I think. But I am hoping for a camping weekend this month which include lots of walking. We have unseasonably warm weather this year.

4/5 - biking (14.3)
4/7 - biking (7.9)
4/8 - walking, 5
4/9 - walking, 1.2

I think I overdid it a bit on the biking over the weekend. It was a bus ride for me to work today. My muscles are exhausted!

Hey Ann,

Welcome back. I saw the first half of the final. I was pulling for the underdog. They came mighty close.

Looking forward to next season. Hope you had a great time at the final four!

Joan, many of the female coaches are people I consider heroes, but Kay is on a whole different level. Only a very special person can lose their life with that kind of grace, dignity, and constant concern for others!

Oh my! Jan! emoticon weather for you when we have pollen and lots of emoticon . It's not right! I hope it warms up and melts soon.

Lunch today - Peanut butter, pine pollen and jelly sandwich with a side of raw broccoli, yellow peppers, baby carrots and radishes covered in pollen! Yum.

Ann - thanks for the good words about NC State women's basketball and the mention of Kay Yow. She was an inspirational person and a pioneer in women's collegiate athletics. She is missed. Her successor is doing a great job with the team and she has won over the fan base. And the team has looked all season like they were really having fun. With the previous seasons with Kay so sick I'm glad that the senior class had a great way to go out. They did make the NCAA tournament, which was more than anyone expected when the season began.

Elliptical today.

Clouds of yellow & light green pollen from the oaks and pines everywhere today. What color is your car? Yellow is the universal answer.

However, allergies - moderate. Once I can see the pollen, it seems that I am not as susceptible to the pollen. It's the pollen you can't see (to mess up a famous quote??) that gets you.

Joan, if we lived near a team of the caliber of NC State I'd have season tickets, too! The University of Washington has had some very good years, but they are currently rebuilding. I have gotten to one game during each of the last two seasons. We have Seattle Storm season tickets and I pretty much got into watching the college games because the best of those players end up in the WNBA (and I am ever the historian, so I need the context of where they came from). Check out ncaa.com for how you get tickets - I'm sure that one of these years they'll be somewhere you'd like to visit, or nearby, and making the trip will make sense. And after all, NC State has a realistic shot of making the final four one of these years. They got really far that year that Kay was so very sick, and they're doing well under their new coach.

Ann, I'm so jealous - final four.
I'm a huge fan of NC State Wolfpack women's basketball - and a season ticket holder.

Have to say that I'm pulling for the underdog in this one - go Stanford!

Hi Gang, my sister and I are in San Antonio for the women's final four. We're staying at a hotel that's right by the riverwalk but not the downtown portion of it and using the paths along the riverwalk as our way of getting around. We arrived Saturday evening and walked around a bit before and after dinner and then did some touristy wandering yesterday before the games. Today is a completely free day, so we plan to take a tour boat ride and do a few other things. Probably not as much walking, but we'll have time to hit the hotel gym. Tomorrow morning we are signed up for a walking tour of the downtown area and the final game will be in the evening... and then we'll leave here Wednesday morning and head home. Its in the 80s, so it will be hard to go back to barely spring in Seattle...

A beautiful Easter here today. A total of 52 in the Easter sunrise band this morning -- I believe 7 flutes and the remainder brass. Brass is tuba, euphonium, trombone, french horn, alto horn, trumpets & cornets. I'll have to watch a few sites and see if the church photographers were taking pictures.

Lovely weather - around 60 at sunrise and up into the 80s today.

I'm beat.
No cardio.
To bed shortly.

Good walking everyone. Keep up the good work!

Quite the day already for you, Joan!
We had snow expected again today so ran inside on the treadmill, but luckily it warmed up a bit & I was able to clean up the yard for the Easter Egg hunt tomorrow. Because we have so many deer that come down into the yard during the winter, there are a lot of droppings to clean up--especially when they look like brown jelly beans!!

Great morning here. Went to bed early last night - and slept 'til I woke up. Got the sheets changed, a load of laundry into the dryer and a run in, all before 9am. Then I headed to the Caribou to watch the people drive around the parking lot - always way too crowded on Saturday mornings and too many SUVs. It's kind of like watching demolition derby without the crashes. (I did drink espresso also and visited with the regulars at the Caribou.)

The first load of laundry is now put away. Upstairs is straightened up and the potato salad for Easter dinner tomorrow is made. And it's beautiful out. Doesn't get much better than this.

The church band goes out tonight to play "Easter carols" so to speak to various members of the congregation, in anticipation of Easter morning. Too much fun for one day.

Allergies - moderate...

Wow Jan - that's a long walk!
I ran and did elliptical and also rowed today. I'm only counting the first two in mileage.

Mother Nature played a cruel April fool's trick here--about 4 inches of snow & very cold. One of my co-workers and I walked the warm Mall today at lunch.

I'm going to goal this one, as hoping to do walking to school 2x a week, that aught to rack up the miles!

Ah, we'll definitely have some great pictures this month. Last week I walked around Pike Place Market with a friend and we commented on the tulips. Yup, we're going to the source - Mt. Vernon is only an hour or so north of Seattle. I'll go for Hope BC, Canada to Mount Vernon, WA: 105 miles.

April is Tulip Time around the world. So I hope we can walk to Skagit Valley, Washington to “see” the Tulip Festival.

Just look over the routes I have listed below. Pick a distance. Post to this thread to declare your intentions. Then start walking! (or hiking, or running, or elliptical-ing). Come back here and log your miles regularly so we can encourage each other to keep moving.

I am looking forward to seeing photos of the site along the way, so if you find any, be sure to post a link.

If you are interested, this is a link to the map of tulip fields.
