Finish out 2009 with 4 miles of snow shoeing yesterday afternoon. Whew--what a workout! Finished the walk with 78 miles done on the 84 miles walk. Not too bad. Going to New Zealand now......

Happy New Year everyone! And I got to say that everybody did great in December. I know we all were busy with holiday events, but everyone kept up on their walking. I know some may be disappointed by not quite getting their miles, but in this season, just getting miles in is a victory.

I'm still fighting my cold, so I didn't close the year with a walk, but I did do strength training, so I feel like I'm ending the year on a good fitness note.

Thanks Ann. I'm enjoying my time here in Thailand. It's been a very beautiful journey, thanks to the pictures that Kevin has been providing.

I'm going with Kevin's suggestion and will create a New Zealand walk. It fits the general theme of Jan's suggestions as well since it's summer in the Southern Hemisphere now.

At some point, both Jan and I - and Owlwho, who I'm missing on this team (everyone visit her and send some encouragement please) walked in New Zealand. But we did the south island. I'm going to look for a walk on the north island. I think we'll probably end up in a place called Coromandel.

I'm off to address Christmas cards if you can believe that. It is the season of Christmas though, as it starts on December 25th and goes for 12 days.

Hope you get feeling better soon, Joan and get over that cold.

As it is only about 20 degrees here, could we walk somewhere warm again in January? How about Brazil or South Africa or somewhere that it is summer right now? Doesn't the southern hemisphere have summer now? Or maybe closer to the equator, like Mexico, where it is always warm? Can you tell I want some warmer air!!

Didn't walk or anything on Sunday. I didn't even go to church. I decided not to share my sore throat with anybody. I have a lovely head cold now. I did get on the elliptical today at work for 4.33 miles. I'm not really feeling like running. We'll see how things go tomorrow.

I was really busy Christmas Eve with church music stuff and it poured rain in buckets here on Christmas Day so I had two days off for rest. Today, I did 2 miles around the lake with my usual Saturday walking buddy and just got back from a run. Now I'm off to watch University of North Carolina play Pittsburgh in a bowl game. I normally wouldn't pull for UNC, but today I will show support for my state. Or not. We'll see.

Kevin, I'm lucky enough to still be getting part-time hours, but I'm in the same boat. I hope I get to go back to full-time in January, but I don't know yet.

Cleaning is good! I got up at 5:15 and cleaned two bathrooms and vacuumed upstairs before I knew what was going on. I really, really, don't like cleaning bathrooms. I find if I do it before I'm fully awake, I can get the chore done before I realize I detest it!

Got clean sheets on beds and the guests arrive this afternoon. So far, so good.

Kevin, sorry to hear about the employment situation. I hope the new year has a remedy for that for you. Meanwhile, I applaud you for keeping up with the walking. Hopefully it helps with some of the stress you must be experiencing.

I did 4.65 miles on the elliptical today. I'm planning on walking tomorrow and likely taking Christmas Eve as a rest day.

I'm unemployed right now so I can usually just get up and walk around the house and get back on track. Yesterday my sister called and I went to help her clean her house, so I didn't get my steps... But I did get a good lower back workout.

Yesterday only 2.5 miles instead of 5. LOL

So Kevin, now that you've gotten your day broken down into hour intervals with "number of steps" goals, what do you do to make sure you hit the goal? Do you jump up from your desk or wherever you work and walk around your workplace or what? Just curious...

Went for a run today on the treadmill. These 3 mile runs are feeling more natural lately. Guess that's a good thing! With the warm up and the cool down, I covered 3.85 miles.

Trying something new today. Actually I did it once and it worked very well. I list my hours and divide my 10,000 steps up over my hours. Then I check it every hour and see if my pedometer says I'm keeping up. Looks like this:

Well, the east coast snow storm was a non-event in Raleigh NC. Just lots of cold rain, and perhaps some sleet. It was doing that off and on all day on Saturday so I took the day off from any outside cardio. I just got back from a 4 mile walk in the park nearby - lots of mud!

I wish we could get more snow here, instead. It's just cold and the fog/smog has settled in, so really yucky air quality and we are supposed to stay indoors. Maybe snow by Wednesday.....

The weather forecast here has mentioned that 4-letter word (no, not diet but snow) and so I went ahead and did a 5K on the treadmill. With warm up and cool down I got 3.65 miles in. I expect that I will take tomorrow off from cardio. I have a real aversion to falling on ice, and screws in my left elbow to remind me of it.

Jan - S N O W is a four letter word in my part of the woods. A foot is pretty much unheard of. We had 24 inches in January 2000, and the temperature stayed cold for a week! So our snow removal plan - let it melt - kind of fell apart! I quilted an entire twin sized quilt that week, while watching my video tape of Tootsie in between some bad daytime TV shows. Fortunately I'd bought the back and batting 2 days before the snow fall.

I had a really good run today. With the warm up and cool down I covered 3.76 miles.
