Jan - sorry to hear about your flu. Glad you case was mild, but it doesn't sound all that mild. Hope that DD and GD are soon on the mend.

Saw some pictures of snow in northern Utah & Colorado. It's too early for that sort of thing! Take it easy on the treadmill & elliptical Jan.

Congrats to all of those finishing on their walk. Doesn't look like I'll be getting in many more miles this month, as I've had a "mild" case of the H1N1 flu and a sinus/ear infection brought on by the virus. My DD and my GD both had the full blown flu, but I guess us "older" 45+ folks get the milder version. Not fun stuff either way!
Hopefully tomorrow I can get in a few slow miles on the treadmill or elliptical, since it's a bit cold, snowy & windy here. Don't think my body is ready to handle the weather yet.

Good job Ann! I'm in Ely also. Just got there with 3.59 miles on the elliptical trainer. Tomorrow morning's walk assuming it doesn't rain will be gravy.

I had a conversation this morning about New Mexico with one of my Caribou Coffee buddies and he was describing Las Cruces to me - home of New Mexico State University. He's a University of New Mexico person, so I'm sure I got a completely unbiased view. emoticon

Anyway, combining this with Ann's suggestion of the Southwest as a location for a walk, I just visited Google maps to check out New Mexico. Lo and behold, I have found a town in New Mexico called 'Truth or Consequences.' That just speaks to me. Be truthful with yourself about your lifestyle that you learn and practice in Spark or be prepared for the consequences! Anyway, it seems a worthy destination. I'll set up a thread for November. At least one of the walks will start in Las Cruces since that's around 75 miles away.

As for me, today I jogged for 25 minutes. Since I've been a bit under the weather, I didn't go too fast or for too far and walked 10 minutes at the end. Today's mileage - 3.08 miles.

Thanks Joan! I've figured out that if I go to the gym tomorrow I'll meet my calorie goal for the week (and my mileage goal for the month) and can take Saturday off (80% chance of rain). Sunday should be a much better day to get outside - only a 10% chance of rain so far. Here in the PNW in the fall, we have to take those chances to get outside when its light out whenever we can get them... emoticon and I'm training for a half marathon at the end of next month, so I need the mileage!

I've got this sinus thing going - not a sinus infection yet - so I spent the end of last week and the weekend not doing cardio. Mostly what I did was sleep once I got back from the beach. I did get on the elliptical trainer today for 4.63 miles. This gets me to less than 10 miles to go, and I should be able to meet the goal, but it may be close.

Well, I didn't come down with the flu and had a great weekend in South Dakota. It has been raining alot here, so my biking and walking miles are low. But here goes:

Hibbing to Ely: 79 miles
Walked 43.65 miles, 55% complete, 35.35 miles to go
Biking goal: 131 miles
biked 70.45 miles, 54% complete, 60.55 miles to go

I'm going to do the walk from Duluth to Ely via Two Harbors -- 99 miles

40 miles so far this month. I have not been feeling well this month an am having a hard time getting any exercise.


I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

Just dropping in to see how everyone is doing. I have not updated my miles for a while and am too busy to do it today. I will update next week. It has been raining alot here. I am not a fan of biking in the rain and it is heavy enough that I have not been walking in it either. So I am sure I am behind my goals.

I am heading out today to camp in South Dakota. All my kids are coming along and my IA college daugher is bringing some friends. The temps are pretty cold at night (29F), so we are using park cabins. They have a space heater and bunks with room for four and one on the floor. Not a hotel room, but good protection from the cold. We might see 60 on Saturday or Sunday. I am hoping for some nice hiking to bring up my walking miles.

I am a bit worried about illness because my co-worker came down with the flu on Wednesday. I think I am alright, but I need to be careful not to infect my college daughter. It would be a shame to send her and her friends back to the dorm with the flu emoticon

I'd forgotten what I'd signed up for. But it appears to be the 79 mile walk. I am back in North Carolina from my trip out to the Four Corners area where I was in Colorado (Mesa Verde Nat'l Park) and Utah (stayed near Moab and went to Arches & Canyonlands). The tour guides told us that the official hikes this week were 28.5 miles. I'm adding the walks around Durango, and the more than the 1/4 mile trek to the lodge from our rooms for meals at at lodging near Moab and giving myself credit for 30 miles on my vacation. This is probably a bit low.

Sounds like I'm going to rent a movie to see what Minnesotans do NOT talk like.

I am in the Business Center of a hotel near the Denver airport. I got here yesterday and am leaving to fly to Durango shortly. I did a walk in the area around the hotel yesterday - I'm going to credit me with 4 miles. I was out and about for an hour and 10 minutes or so.

10/1 - Planned Day off
10/2 - 4 miles
10/3 - who knows? I'll see what things look like when I get to Durango later today.

I hadn't intended to check-in, but with coming out here from the east coast, I was exhausted by 7:30 last night and up this morning before 5AM local time. So I'm killing time before I head to the airport for my flight.

We are walking very near the Minnesota/Canadian border. Lots of lakes, lots of canoeing. Not far from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

After I set up this walk, I saw the movie "Not From Here". I heard it was not good, but it was about Minnesota, so I rented it anyway. I had to laugh hard at the accents of Minnesotans in the movie. In case you are wondering, most Minnesotans do NOT speak like Blanch and Stu. emoticon

I'm going to do the 79 mile walk from Hibbing to Ely via Embarrass. It's mostly because I can't wait to go through a place called Embarrass.

I will probably have a very long lapse in posting. I will record all of my miles as best I can on my week's vacation and post here on the 11th or 12th of October.

This month, we will be walking in my home state, Minnesota. Ely is in northern Minnesota, what we Minnesotans call "up north".

A couple of the routes take you along the North Shore of Lake Superior. The scenery is spectacular. The shorter routes start in the Iron Range.
