I finished up my September walk just short of my goals. I am very pleased, however, and did better than I thought I would.

Walking goal: 66 miles
walked 65.05 miles, just .95 miles short
Biking goal: 200 miles
biked 194.3 miles, just 5.7 miles short

Hi Owl,

I fly to Denver on Friday and Durango on Saturday and meet my hiking group on Sunday morning. Then I'm off to Mesa Verde, Canyonlands and Arches for the remainder of the week.

I'm up for a Northern Minnesota walk. Would it be possible for you to set up that thread? I'm starting to run out of time in terms of getting my act together.

VB, Is this your trip out West coming up?

I had been thinking about where we should walk in October too. If no one else has any ideas, we could walk in northern Minnesota, where the trees are pretty in autumn. I was thinking about Duluth to somewhere, maybe Ely up to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Remote, secluded, peaceful.

Mosquito Point to Hyde Park: 66 miles

walked 63.05 miles
96% complete, 2.95 miles to go
biking goal: 200 miles
biked 178.05 miles, 89% complete, 21.95 miles to go

Thought that I wouldn't make my goals this month, but a long bike ride over the weekend put me within reach. And if I take a short walk today and tomorrow, I should reach my walking goal too.

Attention fellow walkers!

We need to pick an October desination. Since I'll be out of the loop presumably with no internet for the first about 10 days in October, we need to choose the destination before I go on vaction so I can set up the routes.

A good day so far. It's gloomy and threatening rain, but not raining yet. It's cool too. All in all that's a good day to get walking in early and do it! I walked around the lake with my usual Saturday morning walking buddy, then ate breakfast and drank espresso at the Caribou, watching the Boy Scouts sell pop corn and chatting with my coffee buddy...basically either relaxing or wasting time depending on your point of view. Then I came home and ran in the park. Have just finished my strength exercises. Will go outside in a second and plant some chrysanthemums and then it'll be time for a shower.

Wow, Ann. Have some scrapple please while you're there, but just a small serving.

If you run into anybody from the admistration at Sanford who remembers Jon I'm his Aunt Nancy's daughter. I think she might have been involved in some things that required the attention of Jon's grandparents which in turn needed the support of their daughter (Jon's Aunt Nancy).

Sanford was just the right place for Jon. Please let them know that.

Kevin - yikes - you're still walking. I'm sure today will have lots more miles.

I had a really nice run this morning. My usual Saturday walking buddy couldn't make it, so I went for a jog into the nearby park and covered somewhere between 3.75 and 4 miles jogging. Then I walked back home. I'm logging 4.75 miles for today. Yesterday was a light day on the elliptical trainer - 3.32 miles.

My trip to Theo Roosevelt National Park was lovely. We hiked to the Petrified Forest, got lost on a number of dirt roads (it is a requirement to drive at least one dirt road on every road trip), tried to find the Medicine Hole and failed. But the view was amazing. No vehicle problems. Only my old tailbone and back problems. Guess it is back to the back exercises as well as knee exercises.
