Hey everyone,
Hope you all had a great day and are now relaxing and resting your feet for tomorrow's walk. I joined this team a couple days ago but don't know quite where to start! Seeing that the month is almost over, I will wait til the begin of July When you all start the next round of walking and jump on board! In the mean time i will cheer you guys on from the side line.

Joan, I may not make it by bedtime. I have 6.46 miles on my pedometer now and just under 2 miles more to go.

I think I'll have: Salatteller "Schuh", Frische Hummer-Rahmsuppe, Lammentrecôte „Côte d’Azur“,and split some Schweizer Käsefondue with someone. I couldn't find a wine list.

3.85 miles today. Jogged 3.15 of them, so I did more than Day 2 of Week 8 of the Spark 5K Jogging program. That means I have to do days 1 and 3 this week. Yes, I know I went out of order, but Day 2 was the 3 mile jog and I figured as long as I was feeling good, I'd go ahead and cross it off the list.

So I am in Interlaken!
I'm going to get a table at one of those restaurants across from the town green and watch for hang gliders floating down from one of the nearby alps!

Hey Rita - good for you. The name change really fits with Spark. This is not a diet, it's lifestyle change and a gradual one to a lifestyle you can sustain. I think of the D word as a 4 letter word and keep telling friends I changed my lifestyle and as a results dropped weight and got healthier.

Walk a mile or two with us the rest of June and then in July come with us to either South America or Canada for our next walk.

Glad to have you back and Fit 4 Life!


You asked for ideas? How about starting the Spark stages again. They're a wonderful tutorial and the important thing - in both reaching your virtual walking destination and in changing your lifestyle is to take little steps. Pretty soon you'll be taking a lot of them. But
- be patient with yourself
- make small changes
- try for consistency

Hello Everyone,

I changed my user name from RitaDiet to RFit4Life, thought it was more appropriate. I have been meaning to do it for a long time!

Lately all I have been doing is gaining weight. I still am 10 pounds lighter than my starting weight. At one point I had lost 32 pounds. I really need to get back with the program! I keep telling myself that and have not been able to get going as of yet. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas? I have also been slipping on the exercise. Not keeping up with my walking.

My goodness FinFin, that marshamallow farm is an unusual sight!

I've decided to give in and say it's hot here too. I got my walking done before 8am, but it wasn't pleasant from a heat & humidity standpoint. I have decided to stay inside all day and do chores, read and be lazy.

2.25 miles today.

They all sound great to me! And I love having a plan in advance. Great idea, VB. I will vote for Machu Picchu, too.

Walking goal: 64 miles

Obviously, I will not walk 18 miles nor bike 81 miles in the next four days, but I will do my best. I have a walk planned for Saturday and Tuesday and biking planned for Sunday and Monday.

And finally my fitness update for today. I did day 3 of week 7 of the 5K jogging program. Total mileages jogging and walking today is 3.73 miles.

80 mile walk
74.11 complete
5.89 to go
92% done
Should be able to finish easily by June 30th. Good luck and keep chugging along!

Oh, I've always wanted to go to Machu Picchu. I've even looked at doing a guided walking/hiking vacation there. Maybe I should just mortage the house and go!emoticon

We have three ideas floating around out there -
1. Canada (Desertpenguin - if you have a particular Canadian destination in mind, please pipe in.)
2. Machu Picchu
3. Rio de Janeiro

So, let's be fair about this and vote. First place is the July destination, 2nd is August and 3rd place is September.

I'll keep a tally. Just post your vote in this string before midnight your time Monday night - in other words, I'd like to be able to roll up the results on June 30th, so you have vote before you turn in on Monday June 29th.

Just got back from walking. At the airport, slightly north of here the temperature is 91 degrees with a relative humidity of 42% and a heat index of 93 degrees. I am slightly south of the airport, and my car thermometer read 94 degrees on the way home.

I walked 3.2 miles outside. I'm not wilting yet. But then I've lived here almost 29 years. So, yes, my friend Owlwho, you are a weak hot weather Northerner, but you are not acclimated to heat. I would be overwhelmed by your winters! I'm okay with a low of say, 28 degrees, provided it's only for one day!

The temp was mid 70s when I left for work this morning, so I didn't think it would be too bad. I just checked and the humidity was 80% around then. It is about 90 degrees now and 34% humidity now. Just plain hot now. Maybe a cool shower before dinner.

So am I just a weak Northerner? Be honest now....

I can't complain about the humidity, after all the joke around Phoenix is, "but it's a dry heat." However, 105 is just plain HOT anyway you look at it. I will be walking in Texas starting on Sunday, so I guess I'll get reacquainted with the humidity. I'm still going to walk early in the morning. Wish I could be experiencing the cool alpine breezes in reality. lol

So far this month I've walked 55.97 miles, only 24.03 to go, only 5 days left?! I probably won't make it, but I am picking the dog up from my moms house, she's been with my mom almost the entire month! I'll surely get extra steps in now!

Just how hot is it in Minnesota? It's just 91 here in NC today, not too bad. I'm thinking about leaving work no later than 4:23 and walking through the nearby park when I get home. I'm taking it easy this week and doing the 5K Program jogging as my only form of challenging cardio.

I'm thinking of joining a hiking group that is going on Sunday up a Mountain (elevation about 9,000 ft) & then back down again to a local lake for a total of about 9 miles. This hike should take about 5 hours, so I'm still debating, as that is a lot of hiking! But it would almost be like I'm in Switzerland!!

I appear to have been AWOL for days from this thread. It's a direct result of the borderline migraine over the weekend and a mini-mess at work. The good news is that I've been working hard at getting properly rehydrated. (Dehydration even slight dehydration over a longer period of time is my migraine trigger.) I don't think I'm quite back yet - electrolytes you know - but I'm getting there.

In any case, I didn't do any mileage on Sunday and Monday. But I did Days 1 and 2 of week 7 of the Spark 5K Jogging Program yesterday and today. So that adds 3.35 miles yesterday and 3.97 miles today and I'm feeling pretty good about how I feel when I jog.

Sorry to read about what everyone is having to do to avoid the heat but emoticon on figuring out ways to get your miles in. I'm lucky to have the company fitness center and the treadmill, for it is hot in North Carolina for sure.

Had a funky day yesterday. I did run 2.75 miles in the afternoon and so completed Day 3 of Week 6 of the 5K Jogging Program. Then I went to see the Star Trek movie and ended up with a huge headache - I think it was a combination of not quite enough water at that point yesterday and all the change of lighting in the movie and the hand held photography. I don't do light changes well and I have motion sickness issues. Anyway, I've slept most of today, though I did get up early to make a slow walk around the lake -- my usual Saturday morning walk - with a friend. Now it's 7pm and I'm feeling marginally better. Did 4.29 miles total yesterday and 2 today.

Zermatt to Interlaken via Kandersteg - 80 miles
59.86 miles complete

Update on the bike: I rode DS's bike to work today. Good height, but the handbar reach is literally a stretch for me. Since I don't have a good (new) lock yet, I brought it inside and down the stairs. Hopefully it will be out of the way and no one will complain. I have a couple of leads on people willing to contribute their old bikes to me. I am hoping I can get something hobbled together soon.

Sorry to hear about all those meetings, VB. My new job has alot more meetings than my old job, so I am starting to feel your pain. Hang in there!

I am really sorry to hear about the bike theft. What a rotten thing to do. Guess you didn't have the option of bringing it into your office/cube/whatever. I know you've really enjoyed riding...sigh.

It was a crazy day at work yesterday. Meetings dropped like crazy onto my calendar. I was hoping for a short workout, but I got a really, really short workout on the elliptical - only 15 minutes! Today I'm supposed to run 2.75 miles. And my colleague just dumped a meeting on my calendar during the 1 hour I scheduled for exercise this afternoon at 3pm! Double sigh... So I'm going to eat a light lunch and attempt to jog at 1:30.

Anyway, yesterday's mileage - 1.6 miles.

Thank goodness for a warm rain, JANNERUN, and a great story that you will remember for a while.

My bike was stolen from work yesterday. I am so sad. I have had it for only a year and I loved everything about it (except when the back brakes would freeze in the winter). I tried DH's bike tonight, but his legs are ALOT shorter. I felt like I was riding a kiddy bike.

My SIL & I were walking along our favorite trail(gated from cars) & got about 3/4 of a mile from the gate, when this pouring rainstorm hit. We laughed as we power walked back thru the rain and hail, and were soaking wet by the time we made it to the gate, where my DH was waiting in the truck to pick us up and drive us home. Luckily it was a somewhat warm rain! We have had such a wet, crazy June.

Wow, Desertpenguin - gorgeous picture!

Did Day 2 of Week 6 of the Spark 5K Jogging Program. That was 2.5 miles of jogging, but with warm up and a long cool down covered 3.59 miles. I actually set the treadmill for a mileage goal of 3.1 miles, but stuck to jogging the required distance. Day 3 this week is 2.75 miles.

Just looked for a picture on the route - thanks Kevin! - and found this one www.panoramio.com/photo/3951918

I've been to the Blausee also during the same trip where I saw the other lake whose picture I posted. Blausee is the closest thing I remember to a "tourist trap" during several trips to Switzerland. The little lake (Blue Sea) is very clear and you can pay to row around in it looking at fish!

A little bit of walking over the weekend. My knee seems to be getting better. I must be diligent with my exercises. I hope to walk to/from work tomorrow which will greatly help my mileage. I am really behind.
