Just a reminder that today is June 1st and we have been magically transported to various locations in Switzerland. We'll meet up as we reach the town of Interlaken.

I will see you in the town square towards the end of the month. With luck we'll see someone out playing his/her alphorn or maybe a hang glider landing in the square after taking off from a nearby alp.

No idea if there are road side pictures on google maps. However, I bet google images has lots of shots of the Swiss alps.

No walking for me today. I did do strength training session #10 for May though and I am back from the beach.

Still walking around San Fransisco. It's nice to see everyone at the bridge. The scenery on this walk was wonderful. I'm getting geared up for the Alps tomorrow. Is there a way to see a road side view of where we are going, or do we just click on the pictures along the way?

Did my Day 3 of Week 4 of the 5K Jogging Program outside this morning starting about 6:20AM. So, my pace on the treadmil is about a 11:20 mile. So I figured if I could jog for 24 minutes, I would definitely have done the required 2 miles. Well, I made it 20 minutes jogging and then had to walk for 1 minute. So I jogged 5 more minutes. I guess that wasn't too bad since it was my first time running outside in this program and frankly, I haven't run outside a lot in the last several years. Couldn't really judge my pace without the treadmill's help. Might have started out a bit too fast. Definitely finished slow.

Didn't run on the beach even though the tide was going out. This beach I'm at is an island that is difficult to get onto - a one lane swinging bridge so not a lot of traffic at 6:20 AM anyway - and there are enough roads so that I was able to find a route among the roads around the beach houses.

I figure 3 miles today, which puts me at 92.35 for the month.

I'm just walking around on the bridge enjoying the wiew and the early morning fog. I thought I might do down to one of the piers and hear all the harbor seals. They are so noisy and humorous. lol

Thanks so much for this challenge. It has made my walking take on an exciting bent. I love being able to see where I am walking virtually. I tell everyone I meet about Spark People and all the fun I'm having.

Hey Desertpenguin - congrats on finishing the walk.

I'm at the beach for the weekend. Walked 3 miles before supper. That puts me at 89.35 for May. So I'm wandering around the Golden Gate bridge.

Supposed to run two miles tomorrow. My first outside run since I started the 5K Jogging program.

Kevin - for what it's worth I've been looking at map options and my starting points so far are

Hergiswil, a small town near Luzern with which I have a personal connection.

Zermatt - good view of the Matterhorn

Montreux - Great Jazz festival, intersting castle on the lake

Rigi Kulm - small ski resort area, with a personal connection to me

Appenzell - up in the corner near Germany. Cool hiking region.

The end point will be Interlaken, which has a marvelous view from the town green of three alps - Jungfrau, Monch and Eiger.

Now to today's cardio report. My colleagues slammed a meeting on my exercise hour this afternoon and since I have to duck out on time to get to trombone choir, I spent lunch in the fitness center. Did Day 2 of Week 4 of the 5K Jogging program (1.5 mi) and then racked up other miles for a small total of 3.58.

So I'm at 86.35 for the month. I know I have to jog 2 miles on Saturday to complete Week 4 of the program so a few more miles are in my future.

I've got 125.6 miles this month so far. That is 28.6 miles beyond the goal. I really thought that I had made an attainable goal, but I guess I didn't realize how much the warmer weather would affect my walking.

Thanks for taking the lead on June's walk, VB. The Swiss Alps sound great!

I know I have not posted much lately. I cannot remember if I mentioned it here, but my company suddenly went out of business and I was out of a job. Fortunately, I was unemployed for only one week, but I have been very busy learning my new job and managing life in general.

I have been biking more than walking because of a knee injury. But I walked 22 miles this weekend on a backpack trip. And my knee is not feeling any worse for the wear. The trick will be to let it continue healing.

I will check in with my mileage soon. Great to see everyone here on the trail!

It's Wednesday, May 27th and June starts on Monday. Where do folks want to walk in June.

Me personally, I was thinking that some hiking in the Swiss Alps would be nice. That way we can really work on our cardio! emoticon

The town of Interlaken which is bewteen two lakes in Switzerland has a wonderful view of the high alp Jungfrau. Any interest in some hiking?

I finished the 76 mile walk - up to 78.2 miles at the moment. So I guess I wandering around looking for FINFIN.

Today was Day 1 of Week 4 of the 5K Jogging Program so my mileage total (4.27) included 2 miles of jogging on the treadmill with hills.

That's all for now. Congratulations to those who are at the bridge, past the bridge, nearly at the bridge or who walked farther this month than they thought they could. Every step is a small victory!

DH & I had to fix my Mom's sprinking system over the weekend, and since my Mom has a farm and knowing I would be the "go-for", I brought along my pedomenter to track the mileage. From the turn-off valve to where DH was working was almost 1/4 of a mile, so I ended up with 4 miles of walking thru the fields and going after tools. One way to get the mileage in!

It is so nice to see everyone here getting close and reaching the Golden Gate bridge. I apologize to everyone for my absence. I was unemployed suddenly and had to turn my attention to financial survival. Then I got a new job (yay!) and have been working hard at learning it.

I am still biking, walking less. I am tracking, but do not have the number available. I know that my walking is behind, but I have been resting my knee so I am not going to be bothered to much by missing May's goal.

There will be a bit of catchup this weekend when I go backpacking. It is five miles to the campsite. Going to be fun (I hope!).
