Mid 60's here today! WOOHOO! (practicing that woohoo for tomorrow, woohoo wednesday). I finished up emptying the RV and cleaning it up and winterizing it. It goes in to the shop tomorrow for a "check up". emoticon
That IV sounds absolutely horrific. Did the tech miss while putting it in? The worst I ever had with an IV was for my colonoscopy (because i turned 50). I was so badly dehydrated that the tech couldn't get it into a vein. She just kept poking around and jamming it around. Ouch! She must have been inexperienced because I told her it was because my veins were collapsed from dehydration and to try my hand. Ultimately that is what she did. I even had to show her the vein to tap. I am a needle phobic to begin with so helping someone find a place to stick was really awful. but I have never heard of a reaction like yours. I feel for you. Do you have to lay down for the next 48 hours? I cn't imagine any other way to keep that arm above your head. My arm swelled up and turned a lovely shade of purple, yellow, black and blue for a week.
Compared to your experience, my one bad IV stick was a walk in the park.
I'm still working on unpacking and straightening u the house then we are planning to paint the walls. My daughter-in-law is on maternity leave until February so we are going to paint while the grandchildren are still at home with her. Come February, I'll have my hands full (literally).
Hope you feel better.

I don't know about that, Patty. The short run of cold temps we had here just about did me in! I might have to keep the warmer ones.

Well, if this morning is any indication of how things are going to go, uhoh, I'm in trouble!

There won't be any walking for me today. When they inserted my IV for the CAT scan, it immediately infiltrated, flooding my elbow area and upper arm with contrast, and I'm now "wearing" a huge lump that's about 5 inches long, by 3 inches deep. I look like I have nuts stored up for the winter in my arm!

It hurts, and they're making me keep my arm elevated above my head for 48 hours, wrapped in ice, on 15 minutes, off 15. I'm not a happy camper. And to make matters worse, because they had to immediately remove the IV, and I'm such a hard stick, they opted to just do the scan with only the gunk I drank, and not try the dye again, so now I hope it showed them what they needed to know.

That's what's happening in my neck of the woods, hope you're doing better!

David and I walked again today. I read some excerpts of Kevin Trudeaus's (probably spelled wrong!) weight loss book at Barnes and Nobles the other day. I agreed with very little the man had to say, but walking for an hour a day, drinking lots of fluids, and a few other things I did agree with. So, that's what we're doing, walking for no less than an hour a day.

My pedometer says:

5,559: Steps
5,454: aerobic Steps
199: Burned Calories
1.84: Miles
60: Minutes

And as all you Jacksonville, Floridians know, it was nice and warm today. Actually, for us, a little too warm for walking (radio said 75), so we'll be leaving earlier in the morning the rest of the week, cause it's supposed to be even warmer.

Have a good day, all!

Thanks Patty, we just studied Job in our last Bible study, and it does help. Everything was taken away from him, and he was even dispised by his wife, who tried to convince him to turn away from Jehovah God, but he refused, persevered, and then was rewarded ten-fold by God. He was an amazing man, and I wish I were even a smidgeon as faithful as he. One day at a time.

I'm really sorry to hear that you're having problems, also. I hope it's not as bad as you are afraid it might be. I'll be thinking of you while they're doing my CAT. The testing centers must like Tuesdays! Mine's at 11am. Maybe both of us will get really good news! Let me know how it goes, K?

Take care,
Lauren

Lauren,
I'm so sorry you are still looking at more problems. When I had a remarkably bad year, a good friend of mine told me to read the book of Job. I was familiar with the story of Job but it had been a while so I went back and read it. It helped--I'm not sure why, but it did. Maybe it will work for you?
I have an MRI tomorrow on my back. I'm pretty scared about what it may reveal. I ignored it as best I could over my holiday break in Disney, but the real world is back. I guess I'll have to see what happens.

David and I walked today for an hour. The docs think I have a hernia that's developed at one of the surgical incision sites. The CAT scan is scheduled for Tuesday, so until they diagnosis it, etc, all I can do is low-impact walking. Suits me fine...I love just walking anyway! But I don't love the idea of having a hernia and MORE surgery. Jeepers! Does it ever end?!

Lauren,
It was pretty warm in Central Florida today and it's getting even warmer over the next couple of days. The sun felt so good on my face and shoulders--I just soaked it in while I was out and about. I did a lot of walking today. I am so happy that you are doing so well. I also feel wonderfully rejuvenated whenever I am able to get in some activity. It is addictive and the endorphins--well, I don't have to preach to the choir!

Cat,
I am so glad to know it was Centigrade! If it was "F" I think the iceicles would have been attached to you forever. I know I love my treadmill though I prefer outside or Leslie Walking. It is just nice, as you say, to have more options. Boredom is what will do in anyones exercise programs so the more, the merrier. If you get FIT TV, they have some workouts there for variety as well. It is on my DirectTV channel lineup.

Doesn't matter how badly I feel before I start out on my walk, by the time I get home, I'm rejuvinated and feeling spectacular! I'm happy that even though the surgery removed the disease process but left in it's place it's own set of unique and challenging
side-effects, it has allowed me to resume my wonderful walking. For that blessing alone, I'll be forever grateful.

That said, the pedometer today says:

5,748: Steps
5,470: Aerobic Steps
192: Burned Calories
1.90: Miles
55: Minutes

And BOY, is it COLD in Jacksonville today! Could see our breath, that cold!

those temps are c. not f. no way would I be doing it in f.
I like walking, and Leslie is great, but get bored of that, so I figured dress myself warm, buy proper cold weather gear and give it a whirl, so I did and I do.
I do want a treadmill though. so I have three options. walking is working and I have always enjoyed it, prefer it to anything else.

Hey Patty,

HAPPY HAPPY DAY...IT STOPPED RAINING! And WHOOPPEE...I got in my precious life-sustaining walking exercise!

Patty, you would have rolled in the aisles if you could've seen me. The city of Jacksonville had a grand laugh, those that traveled the route that I did, as they watched me dancing up and down the sidewalks. I had more people grinning than I could count...but hey, I enjoyed the HECK out of the time I was out there!

I was quite the spectacle. Even the poor homeless folks camping out in the park had to crack a smile. God love them, I don't know how they do it. If only I were rich...but that's a whole other story. I'm hoping that the shelters are going to send buses to pick them up for a meal. I can dream, right?

So, here's what my pedometer says for today:

5,630: Steps
5,493: Aerobic Steps
190: Calories Burned
1.86: Miles
54: Minutes

emoticon

I sure hope your hip turns out to be alright and is nothing too serious. I'll be thinking about you. I know you're probably hating having to be too good!

Take care,
Lauren

Hey Lauren,
I'm sorry it's raining where you are. Its cloudy here in "the World" (hint, hint) but quite warm and so far, dry. I hope it stays that way. Enjoy Leslie--I went biking and walking and a little bit of a jog this morning, but not too much on the jog. I've been good about trying to rest the hip--I'm more than a little nervous about the upcoming MRI in January and what it may indicate. Not that resting it will make much of a difference if the Doctor's suspicions are correct, but she could be wrong and I could be right.
My problem seemed to be comcast related. On the tech boards (I think) I heard that comcast fixed it so I just went back to comcast again. Right now, it's working.
Merry Christmas!

I was so looking forward to my girlfriend and I walking and walking and walking today.

But...alas...it's not meant to be.

So, I'm going to give another try to Leslie and hope that I won't be hurting too bad in places I shouldn't be afterwards.

I hope everyone is having a fantastic day!

Patty, I'm also not getting any mail or thread updates or anything from Spark...hmmmm.

Hi Cat,
Just noticed you were on right now. I've not been getting notices of thread responses so I only catch them sporadically. You are walking outdoors in those temperatures? I hope those are Centigrade temps--because in farenheight, that would be way too cold, not that it isn't cold in Centrigrade too. I admire your determination and your dedication regardless of the temp. I hope you have a wonderful holiday today!

What a great day and fantastic walk! David, despite his one injured knee and all the bumps and bruises from him tripping on the sidewalk yesterday, walked with me today for 75 minutes, and 2.58 miles! I'm so proud of him, and now we both feel wonderful!

Pedometer Says:

7470: Steps
7140: Aerobic Steps
2.58: Miles
260: Burned Calories
75: Minutes

I hope everyone's having a terrific day!

-9 c is 15.8 f
so I don't know it wasn't that bad for me...
I have done it daily for the last 3 days...
going longer each time, as long as I am dressed warm I don't feel the cold, I will not do it once it goes below -10.

Cat---I don't know--that seems mighty cold to me. I just went out and shoveled some snow from my driveway--burned off 300 calories in less than an hour. Pretty good way to get the cardio and see the immediate fruits of my labor.

Lauren,
I'll bet you are enjoying how nice everything looks too. What you did is similar to shoveling so I'll bet you got a lot of cardio/calories burned too. Are you sure you're not overdoing it?

I'm exhausted beyond comprehension, but it's a good tired. Yesterday, David and I spent 4 hours working on a heavy-duty plumbing repair, the kind that you have to dig up the ground to get to and fix. After that we went to my daughters rental property and spent 2.5 hours raking, clipping brush, and hauling limbs, etc. Whew...

Then today we went back to my daughters place and spent 4.5 hours almost finishing up the job. We ran out of yard bags, so there's a little bit left for someone else to get done. It's okay, cause we were pooped anyway!

My pedometer says over the two days I walked over 10,000 steps. That was cool, and of course the hours we spent working all of our muscle groups with raking, lifting, bagging, hauling, etc, made it even better! emoticon

I think it was just that I waited so long to eat. I could've eaten with my boyfriend at 9, but I wasn't hungry then, and thought I could go all night without a problem. I was wrong, and I won't be doing that again, lol. but I grabbed a drink and let it settle and had a little bit more about an hour later, and I feel okay. I didn't sleep more than 3 hours last night, and I can feel it starting to get me now, but I've been pretty good all day. I hope I don't oversleep tomorrow morning though, I want to do at least one of the denise austin videos before I do my watp's.

and it is cold... although today was kind of nice. my grandmother actually turned her heat off! which is like, a miracle, considering it's december, lol.

it WAS awful cold in MA yesterday, wasn't it? ugh.

I got a couple of walks in, and a bunch of watp dvds, so that was cool. I just stuffed my face with dinner (bow tie pasta with veggies and some garlicky sauce, sooo good!) so I don't think I'll be exercising again tonight. my stomach actually hurts, and I didn't eat all that much.

I need to get in more water though, I think, so that's my next stop. To the faucet!

I have one more week with the PT at 8am but I booked the following week for 8:30 instead. That should be better. I was bitterly cold in Massachusetts today so I avoided being outdoors as much as possible, although I did go to visit my grandsons and daughter-in-law. I got my ABBA CD and I danced around the house for a bit (40 minutes or so) and then later I took it to the treadmill and walk/jogged for a bit more than an hour--I got in over 5 miles so I was happy. The PT would likely not be and I'm glad I don't have to face PT tomorrow. I will admit that the walk-jog was probably not one of my better ideas but it felt really good while I was doing it. The music gave me such joy while I was running--and I was running for some of it, jogging and walking the rest of it.

Oh boy, my PT for my knee used to be at 8 some mornings, and 8:30 others. Since David gets home from work at 1am, and insisted on going with me each time, it was not a good time at all!

I had my 8 year old grandaughter today, so we walked at her pace, but we did do it! We went from our house down to the Riverside Park and back. It was sooo beautiful out this afternoon that we sure enjoyed being outdoors.

Take it slow Lauren. I was only able to do a little bit today. I was incredibly busy so I know I got exercise that way. I have PT in the morning--I set it up for 8am--I don't know what I was thinking when I did that! emoticon

Went walking with a neighbor today. The pedometer seems to be working again okay. Hope it continues to!

It says:

3301: Steps
3290: Aerobic Steps
103: Burned Calories
1.09: Miles
29: Minutes

Then I finished the 9 loads of my daughters laundry that I brought home with me to help her get caught up, vacuumed the house, dusted the living room, moved the furniture in the living room all around, delivered the clothes back to her, and went grocery shopping. It's been a very busy day!

OH Lauren!
What a wonderful day you had! Your grandchildren sound so sweet and loving, and of course, bright. You are a fortunate woman!

They live 15 miles away, and their work schedules are totally the opposite of ours, so by the time my daughter gets home, dinner, homework, plus their side business they have, etc, it's cut down on the frequency of visits. As we only have one car, which David uses for his second shift, I'm generally left without a way over to see them. So we try to make up for it on the weekend. Between the hospital visits, then the recovery, each time he saw me, I was smaller, and he didn't understand.

But today everything is back to normal. When I got to their house, he flew to the door and threw his arms around me, hugging me for dear life. Oh boy, I'm soooo happy!

And we even got to take them walking with us at a neat track we found at one of the campuses of our local college, and then to the park. Daniel made it around the track once with me, his sister made it around 1 and 3/4 times. It's a half/mile track, nice and softly covered with pine needles, sooo easy on the feet and legs. We had a ball! And they were quite impressed by what their Nanna can do.

Daniel wanted to know why I was "growing muscles" because of the muscle definition starting to show in my arms. I told him so that I would be strong and healthy. David and him had been talking about David going to the gym, so on the way home in the car he was informing his sister that Poppa takes gym classes to get healthy. I told him I do too. He said, "You do too? Oh boy, you guys are AWESOME!"

I about split my side laughing. A four year old!

Walked today. I went around the track 4 times, in 49 minutes, making it two miles again!

The pedometer worked for most of the trip, then stopped tracking, why I haven't got a clue. I hope it's not broken. I really liked this one. Bummer!

yes... I had slacked off in November and my goal at walkertracker.com was 8,000 steps a day... I had 20,000 and some to make my goal yesterday...
and I was 9 kilometers away from making my goal at 100 plus club's november walking challenge (90 miles in November for platinum)
so I did 2 dvd's of leslie's yesterday to get it all in and I did it, and I must be fit, cause I am not in pain today and still had energy to burn afterwards all day long...

Lauren,
Does your Daniel live far away so that he doesn't see you often? He's at that age when many kids start to get "shy" around people that they may have run to before. It may just be his age and not your svelte new look. I can just imagine how you feel--I know I would be crushed too.

Patty, David started very slowly walking today, no big amount, but some. He's being really careful.

They figured out why my 4 year old grandson wanted nothing to do with me, which broke my heart into bits and pieces. The weight loss! I'm unfamiliar to him. How WEIRD is that?!

That's a really nice name, Akiva. I'm glad he isn't put off by your "bones." I am still floored by Daniel. I guess there's nothing I can do about it. But it's a big change.

Two miles! Lauren, That's fantastic. You must be feeling so good about yourself. I hope David hurt feels better soon. I know he likes to keep you company as much as you enjoy his when you exericse (and other times too, I'll bet). Humid we don't have here anymore--a cold drizzle is our weather gift.
Akiva is getting accustomed to "baby hooda"--he points him out to me and then tells me to give the baby to mommy or daddy or papa because my lap belongs to "kiva". He doesn't always wait until I move the baby to someone else before he tries to settle into his "spot". I so remember his father and uncle and aunt doing the same thing each time a younger sibling came along. I am still a comfortable "chair" I guess, even though I'm a bit bonier than I was back then.

Got to the gym today. YA!!! It was too humid out to walk outdoors.

Pedometer says:

5157: Steps
4774: Aerobic Steps
164: Calories Burned
1.70: Miles
41: Minutes

The pedometer differs greatly from what the treadmill machine said. It said I did a 20 minute mile, for 41 minutes. Which means I hit the 2 mile mark! I'm going with it's results, but posted the pedometer cause I've been posting the results every day.

Either way...I EXERCISED!!!! emoticon

I'm trying, Patty, but unfortunately, another week has gone by without my losing. I finally dropped my calorie range down this morning by 200 calories. I guess I've reached the point where that was needed. EEK...I hope it doesn't mean hunger pangs!

Things around here have been oh so quiet. David injured his knee, so he's not able to exercise with me. The pup is still adorable. She went with me on my walk today, and she about went bananas over the ducks at the pond in the park that I walked at.

I bet you're LOVING spending time with the new little one! How's he doing? How's the new Mommy and Daddy holding up? How's the little guy handling having a new brother?

I can't do the Leslie series right now. Something about them aggravates the dickens out of my gut. Weird...I don't know why or what it is...but that's the sad fact of it...so for now...I shall forgo her workouts. emoticon

I walked today.

My pedometer says:

5,043: Steps
4,709: Aerobic Steps
171: Calories Burned
1.67: Miles
47: Minutes

I'm striving towards getting those Aerobic Steps up to 10,000. That seems like an unattainable goal right now, but I'll get there.

Have a wonderful day!
Lauren

You are so consistent Lauren.
I've been shopping, wrapping and cleaning today so that's my exercise today so far. I'm looking forward to some fun later.
Yesterday, I played DDR for over an hour--I'm getting better at it at least, though I still fail miserably. I got a new WATP DVD that I used--MaryKay did an entire mile in the middle. That was fun and I downloaded a walking workout from Walmart.com. Not Leslie, but it fits into my assortment well.
I am hoping to DDR some more later. My daughter is coming home tonight so she can go with us to her nephews naming tomorrow. Then she's back to college. My daughter loves DDR so I am hoping to convince her she wants to do it with me. With my luck, she'll want to do her homework or relax or laundry or something.

Lauren you are doing so well. You are the amazing (shrinking too) woman. My pedometer resets at midnight--it is also set for daylight savings time so midnight is now at 11pm so if I want to get the reading off, I have to remember to do so early in the day. I walked today (another parade) for a couple of miles, but I left the pedometer at home. Not to worry though, I got to carry the instrument cases for band students who neglected to remember that the parade started and ended at different points. I also got to give up my Santa hats (which I planned on using to keep my head warm) to the band kids who didn't remember theirs--and I got to transport another child's shoes to her.(don't ask)
Well, at least I get a lot of exercise marching in those parades carrying instrument cases, shoeboxes, etc.

I walked Saturday night, but unfortunately, forgot to post my totals from my pedometer, and by the time I remembered this morning, the pedometer had zeroed itself out and it's memory is acting up.

I walked 25 minutes, and I do remember that it said it was .86 miles. So...that's about all I can tell ya!

I had an AWESOME walk today! I walked the Jacksonville Langing, then cut over to a cross street, and came back the long way to where the car was parked. Poor David's knee is bothering him, so he's out of commision for who knows how long. So, it was just me and myself!

Lauren,
There's just no pleasing people sometimes. I got the same look from my Doctor after I hit goal--he simply said, stop losing weight now. You are there and you could even gain a bit and still be there. Soon, you will be going to Doctor appointments and the first thing out of their mouth as the "cure all" won't be diet, lose weight, exercise!

OH YEAH, and he kept looking me up and down and then spit out "Well, I don't think you're eating much. Not that we want you to gain back what you've lost, we don't...but!"

HAHAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAHAHHHHHAAAAAAAHHAH
AHAA!!!!!

HOW STRANGE! He's concerned that I eat enough...it's just too funny! On the way home I said to David I wonder what he's going to think when the last 40 pounds come off?!

Yes, Patty, I am mending. The surgeon asked me yesterday, other than the problems that the possible stricture they think I might have where they connected the two halves of the colon is causing, how did I feel otherwise? I told him fantastic!

Now we're keeping our fingers crossed that it's not a stricture. EEEKKK...that's not where I want to go!

Again, congrats on that new baby!!

Lauren--I'm so happy for both of you! You must be on the mend and that is something to be thankful for, always. WooHoo for you two!

I think that the reason you feel that way after strength training is because it is exhilerating to feel so strong and to know that you are. I have to do very light strength training now because of the Fibro. I am slowly working up to heavier weights but it is a slow proces. Before the fibro, I was able to leg press more than my weight then (muchmore than now) and my upper body was getting pretty strong. I think that the breath that you blow out hard while doing the strength work (that big empty your lungs one) also helps with the elated feeling after. You are continually exchanging oxygen and I think it feels good--anyway--that's my theory and I'm sticking with it. emoticon
I'm really happy to hear you are feeling up to doing more execise. It really lifts the spirits!
