Well it looks like all things were solved here. So I will just add this little helper information.

Calorieking.com is a pretty good site for foods not listed on spark and if you don't have the nutrition info. They also have a small handbook that I used when I started. It has alot of the fast food and restaruant foods.

Woo Hoo, I love "idiot friendly" things, because I am one so often!! LOL I'll go check it out. That way I can back up and try to add what I have had the last few days.

Maybe having a diet that everyone can view will be a bigger motivator to eat less...I mean I am an honest person, and you guys can crack the whip if I keep screwing up! I need that!!!

oh yeah, it's cool - you can go to any date (arrows or the little calendar), backwards or forwards. I put in about a week's worth into the future at a time, cause I plan my meals a week at a time.
But as far as I know, you will have to re-enter all the info. on the correct date.

Thanks! I am actually up on most calories, portions, etc. I worked for the WIC (Women, Infant, and Children's) program for three years and taught nutrition classes. During that time I dropped over 70 pounds just eating right and doing a little more walking. I mean if your going to teach it right? But, I totally agree with you, the calories are wayyy off!

Plus, to be honest, as long as I feel full and don't feel starved (which feeling full is big deal with as much as I am used to eating!) than I am not going to worry about it. Now I do remember from Weight Watchers years ago them telling my Mother to eat more to loose more. Hum, well, if it is the right food!

OK, next question...I didn't pay attention to the time when I entered everthing last night. It was before midnight here, but aparently not "Spark time". Is there any way to go back and change my date to yesterday so that I can add my food for today??? Thanks for all the help everyone!!

You may want to get a nutrition list book that tells you all the calories, fiber, protein, etc. (whatever you want to track), some of the amounts on the database are just simply incorrect (put there by wishful thinking members, I guess). Most diet drinks are 0 cals or so low that you don't even need to count them.
Maybe I don't understand, but it seems unlikely that you should be eating 4 chicken braests for dinner.
I can never eat more then half a sandwich without going over my cals - alot (bread is deadly). So i have to wonder . . . .

Thanks for the tips. OK, so I was finally able to list my food for today and it was rather shocking! I was thinking I ate wayyy too much. I mean I ate a double portion of grilled chicken breast at dinner. But, according to the calories listed, I ate almost less than half of what I should have eaten...and that is with it not allowing me to count that I only ate half of my sandwich at lunch, or that my tootsie roll pop was not a tootsie roll (which I know from having looked it up elsewhere before, that it is wayyy less). And tell me this, why the heck is there every diet drink at Chick-fil-a listed but a diet dr. pepper??? Sigh, well, that is typical me. I pick the one thing no one else wants! Anyway, today I ate double what I have the last two days.

I guess I need to pick up and eat something. But, seem the more I walk, the less I want to eat. I guess that is motivation for walking! We shall see!

to list what you eat you need to turn off the meal plans on the nutrition tracker page. Then you can just click on add your own food and it will track the foods you eat instead.

The fitness tracker will track your exercise for you. Click on add cardio. It will bring you to a screen where you can search for an exercise. Record your total minutes of that exercise and tell it to add it to your tracker. Your calories burned will show up on the fitness tracker page.

Does this help? It can be a bit confusing at first, I know. It took me a while to figure it out--I am somewhat technologically challenged (and spelling challenged today, it seems)

Oh yeah, you're right you can. I plan all my own meals. You can even save whole meals that you want to re-use. There is a tutorial at the top of Nutrition page that helps alot.
You can use the calories in the database or add them to your favorites (I get mine from the nutrition labels).

Hi Linda,

Keep track of your daily totals (using the fitness tracker is the easiest way to do this). THen on Sunday you will post your TOTAL calories burned.

Some like to post the day, activity and calories burned.
Others just post the Total for the week.

We are on our last week of the challenge, but PLEASE join us. We all want to see that TEAM TOTAL really climb as high as we can.

The Team totals refered to a challenge that is on for "Calories Burned" during the week. You keep track of the number of calories you burned with exercise and then on Sunday everyone reports.

I burned 1500 this week. Didn't feel up to walking the first four days but I did make it to Curves on Wednesday. Started back walking on Friday with the 4-mile Super Challenge. I love it!! For all my efforts, I finally lost my first 50lbs as of this morning! So, I'm keeping up the good work. I am feeling better finally..I beat the head cold threat so I should burn more calories this week. Keep up the good work everyone!

Looks like its 2513 for me, did an extra walk on Saturday to make up for a dinner out! I also traded calories. And it worked, I lost my 2 pounds!

Not too personal at all. At diagnosis, my doctor wanted to put me on some medication--he said not insulin, just an oral medication and we would see how that worked before insulin. I didn't want any medication at all and I told him that. I was given 8 weeks to bring down the sugars to the level he told me. I went below that number. I am all diet and exercise controlled.

That is what I did--many, many times. I never hit the goal, even when I set it higher than what I set it for this time. I have to confess, I did have a major motivator this time to succeed. In January, I was diagnosed with diabetes. If you read the intro on my Spark page, you know this already. I felt like I had been given a chance to get my life and health under control or I would have to live with the consquences of not doing so. Diabetes is not a thing to trifle with and I chose to fight back. I am still fighting that battle and I will for the rest of my life. I plan to win and that is powerful motivation. I wish I had found SparkPeople and had the motivation to lose weight before the diabetes hit me, but there's no going back now. Lest you think otherwise, I am happy and content with my life the way it is, diabetes and all.

I joined SparkPeople in January of this year and lost hit my original goal (135) August 2nd. I lost the other 5 lbs. by the middle of August. My goal range is between 130-135 and so far I've held it.

I weigh everyday, but only take Sunday morning to heart (and even then if Saturday or Friday was lower I take heart in that, but record the actual Sunday reading).
I only have access to a computer on the weekdays, so I guess I can post my results on Monday?

For tracking and reporting it would make it easier for some challenges.

But I wish we could actually change the trackers to fit our own week. I weigh on Fridays and it would be nice to see a how I was doing during the week.

In hindsight, I agree it would make it easier because I think the tracker runs Sunday to Sunday. I'm not sure we noticed that when we set it up for Monday to Monday. We'll have to change it for our next challenge.

Hi Hoji,
Math is not my strong suit, so bear with me here. I am confused by the numbers so here is how it works.
You record what exercise you have done and the calories burned starting with Monday and running through Sunday. Most of us use the Spark tracker to do it, I believe. On Sunday evening (if you're done exercising) or Monday, post your total number of calories burned for the week. Some of us break it down by day and total it up (I do that), some post total # minutes/calories for the week; some post just the calories and some post the # minutes/calories each day and the weeks total and some break it down by activity, minutes at the activity and calories burned for each day. Initially, we were all writing down the activity etc. but after a while, we shortened it to minutes/calories. I hope I explained it correctly. I think if you look through this thread, it will become clearer.
I'm delighted you decided to join in with us on this challenge. It's all about moving and getting in some activity; trying to maintain or even increase it over time.

Ok, so if I understand this challenge correctly, we post our cals burned for the week? I walk 3 miles in the mall everyday except Sat (will add that when I reach 230 and need to add 312 cals burned each week). That's 359 x 6 = 2154 each week, for the time being.
I plan to add stuff as I reduce, feel better, move better, and need to burn more to keep losing.

I worked out last week and the week before but didn't have time to go in and put everything in. It's a new month and hope to get back on track. I will probably only list my grand totals in here from now on, i.e. total minutes and total calories. I've reset myself on the Presidents challenge. Like I said new month, hopefully new ambition!

Some of us are listing exactly what we do, others a total--I tend to go to my tracker and just copy off the final tally for each day and list that here. I started out listing each activity but it became cumbersome so I shortened it.

I just saw your second post.. hope your feeling better. These fall colds have been hard to get rid of. I had mine for a week already, hubby had it for 3 wks. Yuck

Actually, I hate to admit it, but I think I'm fighting a cold and I'm feeling kind of crappy tonight...I'm hoping I'll feel better tomorrow.
