anyone ever try drums alive? If you don't know what it is, a simple google search will explain. If you do the search from the sparkpeople search box, you can get a spark point too. I do some strength training every morning for 20-30 minutes between my 2 walks. I take advantage of whatever I can right now we have a lot of yard work to finish it up for the winter and we burn wood all winter so that generates a lot of extra work but I love cutting wood stacking it hauling it in and sitting in front of the fire on a cold day. I sometimes go out of my way to find other active things to do when we take trips I walk everywhere possible I try to have a good pedometer with me at all times so I can keep track.

I'm trying to do pushups and/or crunches after I get back from my walks (adding insult to injury??). I haven't been bicycling since I'm working on getting my walks up to 14 miles before my half marathon in late October. I'm doing step aerobics or low impact aerobics tapes on my non-walking days.

Besides walking,I use the Leslie sansone walk at home dvds she dose a little more than just your basic walk.I also recently bough a Richard Simmons sweating to the oldies dvd I watched it but have not done it yet dvd player in living room is broke.I dont have alot of money to go buy things so I just use me and what ever I can at home.Oh by the way I saw some one mention coach Nicole who is she?is she someone here on spark?

Yup, we're using my bike with a CycleOps trainer stand. It has prongs that are connected to the rear wheel, which rests on a roller bar. It provides resistance while you're on the bike. The trainer we bought came with a video that supposedly helps visualize the outdoor riding experience, but I've never used it. My sweetie reads the "newspaper" on his laptop while he rides it. Frankly, I find it boring as dirt...maybe I need to find that DVD and see if it helps me get motivated because biking season is coming.
You can search on line for trainers. Performance Bikes has a website; we found ours at our local bike shop. They can be pricey; you're paying for the stability and quiet. Ours is not top of the line, but it's a good one.

We got a "space saver" type treadmill, meaning we can fold the thing up if we need to have the space. It folds up flat. The bike you have set up..is it the same bike you ride outside? I've wondered if it was possible to set up a street bike on some sort of stand and be able to use it indoors for those "unridable" days.

Patty, that sounds great! I'd like a treadmill, but I don't know where we'd park the thing. We've got my bike set up as a trainer while it's too cold to ride outside (in my humble opinion) and that's all we can spare for exercise equipment.

I got myself a "balance board" from the sparkpeople store. All I have to do for a "workout" is stand on the thing while I watch the news. I can feel my body working and my core is sore today. We bought a new treadmill today and it will be delivered next Thursday! YAY!

emoticon Lauren, I used to decide to move my furniture around when I was single. I can remember specifically one evening that I decided I wanted to move my two Large and Heavy bookcases across the room...by myself. Hey, I'm slow but I get there...I pondered the wisdom of being independent when I almost became sandwiched between one bookcase and the wall.
Actually, shouldn't David be thankful since you warn him about moving the furniture before he comes home? Just saying... emoticon
I tried out my Karen Voight tape and confirmed that it's a killer. It'll take me awhile to just learn the moves, but I think it's a good challenge for me right now.

I've gotten really sore from cardio this week so yesterday I did a series of upper body workouts with Coach Nicole to get in 30 minutes of strength training. I like her; she gives good, clear instructions. I don't like doing pushups on a stability ball though...dadburn thing keeps rolling out from under me! emoticon

Cindy - I did that video too. Then I went out and got the 10 min soulutions DVD version, which comes with weighted gloves. Very cool!!

Great, Jennifer!! I have tried the SparkPeople kickboxing video and really like it. Do you take a class or use videos? I think that is wonderful. It's a terrific workout!

I am also using body by Jade sculptor Hip and thigh. I really get the targeted benefits. emoticon Only a couple of min. a day, I love it. My close fit really good now.

Vikki, I did the Sparkpeople jump rope video the other day for additional exercise and it is a good little workout. I am glad your jump rope routine is working out so well.

You are right.... I also remember jumping rope being much easier when I was young!

I have tried several of the other Sparkpeople videos, in addition to the Bootcamp videos the past couple weeks. Although, I have to modify a few, I think I will stick with them now and then. They are great!

I'm rediscovering exercising with a jumping rope! It's fun although it's not as easy as I remember it being when I was a Little Bit Younger than I am now. emoticon It's especially handy when I have a very full day ahead of me.

Gem the Wii has been the best thing I could have ever given my family we all play it and we have done more over than we have since fall. Before you know it you have been working out and playing with the kids and it's been an hour or so. I'm sure you will enjoy it. you'll have to let us know what you think of it.....

I'm still new to the wii. What "programs?" would you recommend or not recommend for a fun workout? My soon to be daughter in law has the wii fit. She says it is great and I plan to try it at some point.

I've wanted to try x-country skiing but if it is like the nordic track trainer, I don't think I am coordinated enough to pull it off. I've been looking at show shoes...anyone try those? Looks like it could be fun.
I haven't tried the wi fit yet, but I can have access to it via my son's gf (soon wife).

walking is what did it for me at the start.
But now I am finding other things to get me moving.
I bought a Wii and Wii fit. and Wii fitness coach.
so I do something Wii related at least once a day.

I use DVDs. There is a good one called Yoga for Weight Loss that goes through levels of difficulty. This is a good choice if you need to familiarize yourself with the commonly used poses, and then want to move up in intensity. Basically if you search a site like Amazon for Power Yoga, you will find many choices. In bigger cities they hold "Power Yoga" classes, but not where I live :(

I believe it is a pop term for Vinyasa style yoga...where there is a flow of movements, one into the other that is repeated. For example Sun Salutations. It's stresses strength as well as flexibility because as you work and rework muscle groups, they tend to get stretched further each time and certainly tired out. I am always well worked out after and depending on the flow I hurt in places that no other form of exercise hit. I love it!

LisaNancy asked me to start a thread about the different types of activities we are doing. Getting fit should be fun! I just discovered that WII activities are on the fitness tracker here. I would have played with it even it wasn't on the tracker, but WOW...it's great to be able to get points and play. Bowling on the WII gets you points! Tennis gets you points! THere are some others there too but you probably get the idea. Lets get fit and have fun. Share your routines here!
