I love this "walking to destination" mode you have going here. I just joined you all. I'm going to walk to Stafford, TX to visit an old Navy buddy. It is 1116 miles.

For Shark, and anyone else interested in joining--I copy and pasted this from an earlier post. It explains what we are doing here. If you want to join in, let me know. You can sparkmail me your "address" for a virtual visit. I only need a town, state, country (yep, we are international)--Join in! I figure out how to get to you. Right now, we are on our way to Alberta.

Post your cardo minutes/ walking totals/steps etc for the week on each Sunday and I will try to tally them. For example:
I walked 2 miles on Sunday
I did 60 minutes aerobics Monday
I mowed the lawn for 3 hours on Tuesday
I used my pedometer and got 4000 steps on Wednesday
I would convert the 60 minutes aerobics=4 miles (60/15=4)
I convert the 180 minutes on Tuesday=12 miles (180/15=12)
I convert 4000 steps=2 miles (4000/2000=2) This is assuming 2000 steps=1mile and your pedometer doesn't make a conversion for you. If your pedometer has a different#miles, use those.
So on Sunday, the login miles day, I would report
20miles for the week ( 2+4+12+2)"
Added this today.

If you ride a bike, use those miles if you have a "bikeometer"(I made that word up) use the miles it reports. We are travelling quite a few miles. You are welcome to add your location if you'd like a "visit". We are on the way to Alberta, Canada right now. I can send you more information via spark mail about this challenge if you are interested. More walkers=more miles=we get there faster! We'd welcome your participation.

Good morning--
Since I'm now feeling better I'm working on tallying up where we are for miles. I'll try to post the total later today. Keep walking. I did a lot of heavy moving this weekend--setting up, breaking down decorations. The coffee chat post explains--sort of--what I was doing. So, with 12 hours lifting, moving, etc. over the weekend that translates to 48 miles for me. Not bad. It is likely more but I'll leave it at that.

Nothing for me this week--can't seem to walk and breathe at the same time. Still sick, but I am getting better. I actually slept in my bed last night for a couple of hours, instead of sitting up all night coughing in a reclining chair.

OK GEM - I am in the challenge now but did not realize you lived near the evil Patriots. COLTS - COLTS - COLTS fan here.

I got in 6 miles but i spent all day for thelast two sundays walking between two football fields because the president of the organization was away! i was completely exhausted by the time i got home after being there for 13 hours! that has to count for something, i just dont know what

30 this week--trying to shake things up a bit by doing things differently. Some walk-jog, intervals on hills, etc. I even went out with my 24 yo son to jog--well, he jogged the entire time, I did walking and jogging. But, I am 55 so I figure that's just fine.

Good morning walkers!
Hannah has moved on and the drier, less sticky New England late summer weather has returned. It is beautiful today. I tried to stay up last night to watch the storm but I just got too tired and gave up. We got mostly rain--a bit breezy but not enough to knock the apples and pears off my trees--and I was hoping to get some of them--they are up too high for me to reach. Actually, one did come down and there is a happy critter around who ate half of it.

I know exactly what you mean about the hot stickiness, it has been raining here since about 530pm and it has been windy for about an hour. I am laying in bed right now with the fan blowing at me just wishing I had ac! I'm waiting for the interesting weather. Tropical storm Hannah is drifiting up towards us and the eye should be over us sometime between midnight and 2 am. We've been getting some rain--not a deluge by any means and it is atarting to get breezy--not a big deal. It will be like the nor'easters but warm and no snow to shovel afterwards. I'm hoping to be up when the eyewall comes over. It's too warm and sticky to sleep anyway and I have no air conditioning. The dewpoints are in the upper 70's! Yikes. I have my floodlights on in the back yard and I may step outside even. School just started on Wednesday for my son but the percussion team has been practicing all summer for this years competition and the band is on the field for the football season. HOw's your foot doing?

just gettin back into the swing of things, spent some time with a broken foot (barefoot soccer not a great choice) so i didnt get to do the walk, but we are planning on DC next year! Thank you for asking! how is everyone? we are in full football/soccer season here in the great northeast! so we are keeping busy enough but not so much as during baseball season-i can actually get out and do me things! got to love it

Not so good for me last week. I stubbed my toe on my 16yo's sax case and Ithink I broke the toe. It hurts. Today I got in 4 miles so I'm happy about that. Last week, just 15miles.
I haven't added up the miles in a bit so I will try to get on that so we can see how far we have to go to get to our next visit.

Hi Angel--bear with me--this is a long answer.
For the purpose of this challenge (a virtual trip) --we are using everything to count our miles.
I copied and pasted this info from page 4 on this thread.
"Post your cardo minutes/ walking totals/steps etc for the week on each Sunday and I will try to tally them. For example:
I walked 2 miles on Sunday
I did 60 minutes aerobics Monday
I mowed the lawn for 3 hours on Tuesday
I used my pedometer and got 4000 steps on Wednesday
I would convert the 60 minutes aerobics=4 miles (60/15=4)
I convert the 180 minutes on Tuesday=12 miles (180/15=12)
I convert 4000 steps=2 miles (4000/2000=2) This is assuming 2000 steps=1mile and your pedometer doesn't make a conversion for you. If your pedometer has a different#miles, use those.
So on Sunday, the login miles day, I would report
20miles for the week ( 2+4+12+2)"
Added this today.

If you ride a bike, use those miles if you have a "bikeometer"(I made that word up) use the miles it reports. We are travelling quite a few miles. You are welcome to add your location if you'd like a "visit". We are on the way to Alberta, Canada right now. I can send you more information via spark mail about this challenge if you are interested. More walkers=more miles=we get there faster! We'd welcome your participation.

A more direct answer to your question--we use different ways to record our walking. I use miles--sometimes I use the pedometer, sometimes I use measured miles (track, treadmill, odometer). I think that's what others do. I am going to copy your question and post it on the coffee chat thread to try to get you some more responses.

I have a question? I've noticed a lot of the walking groups track their progress using a pedometer which i think accounts for every step you take throughout the day. Are you guys using those or are you measuring by times you actually set aside for walking (i.e. track, treadmill, ect)?

My miles were low this past week---25---spent a lot of time unpacking, housecleaning and watching the grandchildren--Doctor appointments, etc, etc. The usual "welcome home" stuff.
I'll do better this week.
