I'm a Chicago girl through & through and I hate to admit it but the biggest thing I have missed over the last few years as a vegetarian - Hot dogs. Over the summer, I discovered SmartDogs! LOVE THEM! My first bite was like being whisked away to my childhood watching a ballgame at Comiskey Park again. They're also devilishly low in calories and have zero fat. I also love Boca Bratwursts and Quorn's "chicken" nuggets. :)

Been a veg for about 20+ years now. Quorn products are, to me, the best by far. Just make sure that you aren't allergic to mushrooms, as all Quorn products are made from a mushroom-like protein...which can be bad if you are allergic to mushrooms. I love Quorn grounds the most- they make a great meat sauce, a fantastic chili...my husband makes stuffed peppers with them. They taste fantastic. They are great, too, because they aren't soy based.

The best vegieburger I have found is from Costco. Not in the frozen section. It is where the fish and cheese section is. They are incredible. My 15 year old daughter who is vegetarian says they are the best.

I just went to Max & Erma's today and had their black bean veggie burger and it is delicious! Topped with pico de gallo and avocado spread, it was one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had. If you have Max & Erma's near you, I suggest you try it - definitely hits the spot :)

I can't find any veggie jerky where I shop. Not at Whole Foods or Trader Joes or Fruitful Yield. I really don't want to have to order them online.

I totally agree with you on the Quorn. I love it!!!!! I cook one up for myself and have it as a sandwich for the rest of the week. Way better than the Tofurkey roast!

I'm trying to steer clear of processed foods because of the sodium in them, but I do have my favs.
I made the Quorn roast for my work's Thanksgiving party, and everyone loved it. They said it felt and tasted like meat, too.

I still have a lot of stuff to try since it hasn't been long since I stopped eating chicken, but omg do I LOVE the Quorn chik'n nuggets! I gave one to my boyfriend and he didn't even know it wasn't really chicken.
I got their ground chik'n and the unbreaded chik'n nuggets to try as well, but haven't had the chance.

I have to agree with Gottagetmoving regarding the Larabars. They are just plain fabulous. I read about them in Skinny Bitch and bought every flavor at Whole Foods. They aren't so light on the calories (about 200 per bar), so you have to be careful. But they are 100 percent whole food, vegan, organic and made of nothing but fruits and nuts. If you need an energy bar that isn't full of processed crap, they rock. I personally like the Chocolate Coconut Chew the best. And the Cherry.

My favorite product without question has to be tofu shirataki noodles. I LOVE THEM! Also, I like the Boca Spicy Chikn, Imagine Organic (and low sodium)vegetable broth, Blue Diamond Almond Breeze (both chocolate and vanilla)and Larabars (all flavors but especially ginger snap and cherry pie. I also like Amy's frozen entrees. I really have not done much with tvp (though I have some in my cupboard) Does anyone have any suggestions for ways to use tvp? Thanks.

I am pretty new to this. But, so far, these are my favorite things...
All of the Amy's products, soups or frozen entrees and burgers.
Imagine Organic Soups
Dr Praegers Spinach Pancakes and Potato Pancakes
Earth Balance
Almond Breeze Almond Milk (way better than soy or rice milk in my opinion)
Galaxy Rice Cheese
Gardenburgers...liked all of the flavors so far. Bought the chicken but haven't had it yet. Also like the Riblets a lot.
Tofutti Cream Cheese

Nomad, if you can't find the Earth Balance or anything like it in your grocery, try to kosher refrigerator case. I've found kosher, dairy free margarines there before. They aren't as tasty as Earth Balance, IMO, but they are vegan. Even my meat and potatoes, Wisconsin-raised father prefers the Earth Balance!

Anyone use the natural (and vegan) sweetener Stevia (http://www.stevia.net/)? I've been searching for it for a while and was so excited to discover it at my health food store today! A packet of this, along with a splash of Silk's Very Vanilla soy milk, makes the most delicious cup of coffee.

while this is not a strictly "vegetarian/vegan product" i do have to give a rave to the new pasta "barilla plus." if you haven't used it yet, run out & buy some. For one cup uncooked pasta it has 17g protein & 360mg Omega-3's- great easy way to add protein to the veg diet.
I never liked whole wheat pasta, so this is a great alternative. Just wanted to share!

I buy mine at a Super walmart store here in town. I really like it. I usually will drink an 8 ounce glass of that, along with a piece of fruit of my choice, and call that breakfast, gives me an awesome jumpstart to my day!
I have wanted to try the odwalla juices, but no one in town sells them...

I love this Odwalla Superfood Nutrient fruit juice drink! Its like a fruit puree so good, I think I get kinda hyped because it has Spirulina in it, so its green in color. I have been drinking 8 oz of that each morning, gives me a good kick start to my day!
The fake meat products realy dont do much for me, the only thing I have tried and liked was the Boca Chik'n Patties. I cut those up, and add them to a dinner salad.
I tried the Trader Joe's Vegetable Masala burgers and they are AMAZING (and VEGAN)!

We tried the Quorn nuggets last night, and 2 of 3 kids liked them. My 7 year old said she likes Boca nuggets better and didn't eat them, but my 2 yr old and 4 yr old loved them. I only had one, but I thought they tasted pretty good. I have to say, those naked cutlets are the best thing! I baked one last night and put it in a tortilla with tomatoes and onions and it tasted like something from a restaurant!

My favorites are Tasty Eats soy jerky (especially Hot & Spicy), Primal spirit jerkies (especially hot & spicy Shiake mushroom (I can't put in the T for some reason-it shows up as profanity)) and Amy's meals (especially the encheladas).
I like really spicy food, and it's great having something convenient and yummy for lunch. I have to get the jerky online though (just found bulk packs at amazon), I haven't found anywhere near me that sells it.

I just tried Light Life's Meat Free "Smart Tex Mex" entree -- and I am in love! It contains Veggie Protein with beans in a Southwestern Sauce. I purchased these on a sale at Whole Foods - 2 packages for $5. So, $2.50 for lunch isn't bad at all! They are in the refrigerator section. I took a whole wheat tortilla, heated and then poured the Smart Tex Mex contents into the center, rolled up -- and yumm!! Let's see, it's meat free, heat & eat, microwaveable, zero fat, zero cholesterol. Each serving contains 6 grams of healthy protein. It contains 3 servings of 1/4 cup each -- sodium isn't bad, 170mg a serving. Cals are only 50 calories per 1/4 cup. This one's a keeper!

I really like Field Roast's grain meat (seitan) sausage, especially the Chipotle flavor. It's a little oil-heavy, but I try to wipe the excess oil off before I add the sausage to food. (It's vegan.) It's really good in tofu scrabbles and potato hashes...Yum!
I also really like Morningstar's Mushroom Lover's burger. It's not vegan, but it is very good. I find it to be very high in sodium. I use it sometimes as part of my veggie fajitas, if I don't have portabello mushrooms on hand...

i had several meals at restaurants prepared with soy products made and seasoned to taste like shrimp, lobster, scallops, etc. i checked with one of the owners and he said he bought them from a place in nycity. we went there recently and i bought several varieties. i had a cooler and icepacks with me so i could keep them frozen for the long drive home. the store is called may wah and is on hester street but can be found online at www.vegieworld.com.the store is small, clean and well stocked and, now, having seen it, i wouldn't hesitate to order online. having once been very fond of the flavour of all these sea creatures, it is nice to be able to enjoy it, cruelty free, after all these years.

I love Quorn products! The Naked Cutlets can take on so many flavors that we have gotten in the habit of eating them a few times a week (like we used do with tofu and tempeh, but this is a bit more convenient.) If you ever liked chicken, then I would say this is the very best substitute for it (but it has been 16 years since I had any kind of meat so I might not be the best judge!)
Anything you would do with chicken you can do with these cutlets. You can marinade them in just about anything. We love to grill them with BBQ sauce, or just cook them in the toaster oven with a tiny bit of olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper and dried herbs. Lately, I have been using them on top of salads to add protein.
We've also tried the Quorn Roast, Nuggets, and Breaded Patties, but we prefer the Naked Cutlets the best. One great thing about the Quorn Roast is the ability to simulate a type of chicken salad. I made one for a Christmas potluck by cubing the roast and tossing it with Nayonnaise, grapes, celery, and spices etc... like a type of Waldorf salad. It was awesome!

www.quorn.us Quorn™ is the brand name of a premium line of all-natural, meat-free frozen foods. The Quorn brand has been sold in the UK since 1985, and since that time has become the #1 retail brand of meat-free foods in the world! And since its US launch in 2002, Quorn products have become the best-selling frozen meat-free brand in natural food stores*!
Quorn products deliver great taste, fantastic quality and a wide variety of items to meet the demands of on-the-go lifestyles.
You can depend on Quorn products to always be meat-free and soy-free. There are believed to be over 600,000 varieties of fungi in the world, some of which are the most sought after foods like varieties of mushrooms, truffles and morels. The principle ingredient in all Quorn products is mycoprotein (“myco” is Greek for “fungi”). The mycoprotein comes from Fusarium venenatum, which was originally discovered growing in a field in Buckinghamshire, England. In the late 1960s, initial product development began, soon recognizing mycoprotein’s potential as an efficient and nutritious protein source.
Try Quorn products for yourself – it might just surprise you…

I tried the naked cutlets. pretty good. I was apprehensive at first, but I liked them well enough to eat them again if the store ever got them back in stock.

They were delicious! I did some research and found out they were the brand I mentioned above. Very happy to have found a good vegan hot dog. :) Since then I've bought two packs already.

There are so many vegan products that I love!
First and foremost I have to say that Vegenaise changed my world. I was so happy to have found an eggless mayo that tastes just like the real thing! I make tofu salad sandwiches that are really similar to egg salad.
I also love:
Boca Chikn Patties - they make great buffalo "chicken" sandwiches
Morningstar Farms Grillers Crumbles - also good in tacos, enchiladas, lasagnas. I like using it in pot pies and shepards pies too!
Soyrizo - soyrizo and potato tacos, enchiladas, tacos...
Trader Joe's Masala Burger - this product is pretty amazing, it's made out of potatoes instead of soy and tastes like good indian curry! I like to eat this with some rice.
Not so crazy about: Vegan cheeses in general though Follow Your Heart makes a pretty good mozzarella

My kids actually prefer Boca or Morningstar Farms nuggets to real chicken nuggets (if you want to call them real chicken ha ha). My kids also love the Morningstar Farms breakfast scrambles and Boca chick parmesan ranch patties.
My favorite product though is Boca Southwest Breakfast wraps. They taste like a breakfast burrito you would get at a restaurant. I don't think they are Vegan though.

I love the Quorn products and Morningstar's Spicy Black Bean Burger. My all-time favorite has to be the buffalo wings that Gardenburger used to make. They came in a bag that you microwave, like the riblets they have. Every few months, I write to the company and beg them to bring them back.

I love Sunshine Burgers. They are sold in packs of 3; mostly I see them frozen. I think the idea is to heat them up and put on a bun like a hamburger, but I love to eat them unthawed directly from the package. Yum!
Amy's enciladas are delicious.
Chik Patties are yummy too.

I know I echo many when I say Chik patties are the best! My very "anti-vegan" son loves these and can't get enough of them.
Some other favorite items:
Any soy milk Most Yves products All Amy's Kitchen (esp. roasted veg pizza) Love Tofurkey products Fantastic foods chili & sloppy joe mixes Annie Chun's noodle dishes (check for vegan)
I cook a lot from scratch, though. Indian food is packed with vegan dishes as is Asian. Meal ideas are endless! Check out vegweb.com (try General Tso's tofu!), theppk.com and fatfreevegan.com for inspiration.

My favorite foods are Morningstar Chik patties, original flavor Gimme Lean ground beef style veg protein (makes great meatballs!) Yves veggie pepperoni! I eat 'em plain:) Amy's frozen foods, the vegan bean burrito is great Boca vegetarian frozen chili Tofutti sour cream and cream cheese taste like the real thing! Used to use Silk vanilla soy milk but started to give me tummy aches so I switched to Rice Dream vanilla rice milk and it tastes and looks more like real milk. I like to try at least one new thing every time I go to the grocery. Some are good and some go right in the trash but at least I know:)

I like Eden organic products. Amy's is good but it never goes on sale anymore.
I use this multi-vit: Maxi-Sorb multi-vitamins Vegetarian Support Caps. I also found a vegetarian vit D supplement: Dry Vitamin D 1000 IU, which is probably only recommended if you're low. They're both by Country Life.
Also GT's Gingerade Kombucha is great! My roommate cultures and ferments her own in quantity; it's awesome and cheap.

I'm in Canada, so I got it at Planet Organic.
I almost was hesitant eating it, because I said to myself "This smells like real cheese. This CAN'T be Vegan."
It's cheaper or around the same price for a block of cheese too, which is nice. It was $5.69, and the same size of cheese at the store I work (Superstore) is about the same.
Everyone should use this.

Nathan, I just bought this nacho cheese and couldn't wait to try it. By the time I got home from work, they had eaten it all. They swore up and down that it was "real" cheese. I'll have to get some more to try myself. Shaun

Vegan Gourmet Cheese Alternative, Nacho flavour.
This stuff is incredible. It melts, it tastes amazing, and it's 100% Vegan and Gluten-free. It wouldn't be hard to fool an omnivore with this at all. I've always disliked cheese, but this stuff is incredible!

I like Silk Vanilla and Silk Chocolate. I use the vanilla to make my oatmeal in the morning. I can't drink milk at all so this was a great find for me. We even converted my English mother-in-law to using Silk in her tea!

Amy's products are da bomb! I love the macaroni and soy cheese. I think they discontinued my favorite pot pie, though -the one with french lentils. The reason I don't like most fake meat products is because they taste too meaty for me; I've always hated meat, but my parents used to force me to eat it. I spent many evenings sitting at the dinner table until bedtime because I wouldn't finish my animal flesh. I love tofu, but unfortunately, I like it best fried.
Silk vanilla soy milk is my favorite. Very vanilla is good, too, but it has even more sugar than the regular vanilla.

Of the "meat-type" products I like the Boca breakfast links and Morningstar Meal Starters - beef & chicken strips, also the ground beef substitute.
I also like tofu, but I've only mastered a couple of ways to prepare it so far.
We're in a small town & don't have a lot of options available - I'd love to try some of the other items that people have mentioned here.

Worthington fakin' bacon, the mystery products called sueyu and suegai that I get at the local thai place (black bean-based and yellow bean-based substitutes for fish and chicken, respectively), tofu, all the Morningstar special burgers (Black Bean, mushroom, etc.)

Yves veggie ground is fabulous for chili or anything where you would use ground meat.
Tofurky slices make a great sandwich paired with veggie mozzarella cheese and ezekial bread.

I was raised vegetarian, so I never had any bad associations with the texture/flavor of fake meat products.
Morningstar Farms Breakfast Links and Gardenburger Breakfast Sausage Patties are my favorites in the breakfast category. Oh, and the Morningstar Farms Breakfast Strips fake bacon is really decent, too.
I really like the Gardenburger Flame Grilled Meatless Chicken Patties (which are nice and versatile in terms of flavor) and, for a more decadent treat, I LOVE the Herb Crusted Cutlets which are SO good (but you really have to make them in the oven because microwaving does bad things to the breading).
I like the Boca Bratwurst and Italian sausages a lot.
As far as deli slices, I think Tofurkey are the best ones. And we do the Tofurkey roast for Thanksgiving.
I also ridiculously love the Quorn products, but don't get them as much because they're more expensive and rarely on sale.
Seitan. Tofu. Yum.

I would strongly recommend any Amy's meal entrée . They are completely meat free and all dairy products are made without rennet or animal enzymes. Plus they are delicious.

Morningstar Farms Spicy Black Bean burgers...yum! My kids go nuts for the Morningstar Farms Tomato and Basil burger that I got a Trader Joe's. They also liked the Italian Sausages. I think they were by Boca. Shaun

i usually hate fake meat veggie options, but there are a few i like: boca breakfast links morningstar farms buffalo wings gardenburgers (which really aren't fake meat-y at all; they're just the same shape as hamburgers)
