I've started an official 12 in 12 Challenge thread. I'll ask Nicole or Will to make it sticky. The first challenge runs from today Jan 2 to Sunday March 25. After that I'll post another one for the next 12 weeks.

Let's make our goals a reality together.

Happy 2012 to everyone.

Starting my new year trek to lose 12 pounds (i.e. finish 2012 at least 12 pounds lighted than I start). This morning I weighed in at 148.4 (a pound up from official weigh-in last Thursday).

Also starting a journey towards being a vegan--planning 36 vegan meals this month(12 breakfast/12 lunch/12 dinner). First breakfast just finished--tofu scramble, Judy's vegan bread with a smear of hummus. Later I'll go shopping for some ingredients.

On the exercise front, I'm planning 12 strength training sessions a month with 12 machines X 12 reps X 2, and 144 minutes (12 X12) cardio.

Let's go team emoticon

great ideas!!! I plan in trying a new veggie recipe, each week, even if it's a new base for and old recipe, there are so many combo's to make , maybe we can share what we discover in a recipe of the week

( only those who risk going to far know how far they can go)

self control is knowing you can and deciding you wont

the only thing you can't do ....is what you dont think you can do!!!!!.

We could run 12 pounds in 12 weeks for the entire year of 2012, that way you can keep joining if you haven't met your goals or if you have several increments of 12 to lose. The first 12 weeks go from Monday January 2 to March 25. In that time you vow to lose one pound per week for the entire 12 weeks. To meet that goal you'd have to choose at least three of the following challenges:

12 minutes - Logging at least 12 minutes of your chosen cardio exercise.
12 day streak - Doing the challenge every day for 12 days in a row.
12 reps - Strength training at least twice a week and doing reps of 12 for each exercise.
12 servings of fruits/vegetables - What kind of vegetarians and vegans would we be if we didn't eat our veggies?
12 miles or kilometres - Walking, running, jogging, swimming, etc. per week minimum distance for some, maximum for others.

ETC... Please help me come up with other ideas!

I joined a running challenge for the coming year. 1 mile per day. Every day. For the entire year. When you break that down, its only 12 minutes per day for me. :) I actually run much more than 7 miles per week but I loved this challenge.

12 in 12--yes. Let's build a master list together (12 lbs in 12 weeks, 12 minutes exercise per day, 12 miles a week, etc.) and everyone picks the challenge they want (or more than one) and be accountable to one another.

Love the 12 in 12 idea... I need to lose 12lbs a few times over!

Perhaps we can set ourselves 12 goals to complete for each 12 days... examples such as:

1 new recipe
1 new food ingredient (new vegetable/fruit or legume)
1 new physical challenge
12 x 12 reps
12 minutes of exercise per day x 12

Maybe have a big pick list and then you get a gold star each time you complete 12 in 12.

12 in 12 could also mean a great 12-day streak to start the year, whether fitness, food tracking, or another goal. What a strong way to start!

12 in 12 works for me... as far as weight loss goes. I'd also like to see 12 minutes of exercise once or twice or three times a day... for me those are dog walks. 12 minutes of strength training or 12 reps. I think we could have a lot of fun with this. :D

I definitely need a challenge in 2012. I like the 12 in 12 idea. I Need to loose more than 12 lbs but if that is the case then I can just start the challenge over again. 12 is an easier number to focus on than 50, 80 or 100. I will just reward myself for every 12lbs lost!

I was at an inspirational meeting last Dec 12 and we were all supposed to set a 30 day goal. Mine was to get 2 lbs below what I was at last year before my husband died and when I started gaining weight again to the tune of over 15 lbs. By then I was coming down again but the goal is 15 pounds by Jan 12 2012. this challenge I am now joining to get you guys to hold me accountable, came just in time. My eating is already excellent and I have been totally off sugar for over 10 months now, so I cannot eat any better, just less, but my real challenge is to keep up with my Phsio program because I just got a new hip on Oct 13th and the exercise part is critical to proper healing, so it needs to be at least 1/2 hour or more every day. I want to be accountable for that too. Help me please! LOL Joni

I am following Dr Esselstyn's book to Reverse Heart Disease.
My goal is to get one pound slimmer every week until I reach 140, and then stay there forever, healthy.

I notice that my weight always comes up as Kg but believe me, I never weighed 210 Kg LOL It should be reading pounds (that is what my scale says), and I cannot seem to change it so wanted you to know. LOL

The winter solstice happens next week. In my geography, it is just after midnight December 22. The winter solstice is frequently celebrated as a time of letting go, of releasing both things and experiences; a time to let go of things that no longer work; letting go of things which have brought up anxiety, guilt, regret, pain....Often, people write down on bits of paper what they want to let go of and solstice night, burn the bits of paper in a bonfire or with a candle's flame. Perhaps the new year is a time for beginnings and the solstice is a time of good-byes. Seems the two dates are complimentary. This weekend, I'll be composing my list of things lo let go of. This thread has reminded me to also think about the coming new year and another list of concrete hellos. I think I'm going to like participating in both.

I could really use a challenge. Something for weight loss &/or exercise would be good. The 12 in 12 is a good idea.

How about 12 in '12. Every one pledge to lose 12 pounds (if you want to lose more - o.k. - it's a start- or if you are on maintenance, walk 12 miles a week in '12). See how many can do it. emoticon emoticon

Please post here so we can get something started! I just feel so good about next year.... I don't usually do resolutions and for some reason I don't feel like I need to in the new year... I just feel upbeat and positive. However, I know that many people on this team would probably like to join a challenge whether it be for weight loss, fat loss, muscle gain, eating better, becoming vegan, raw, etc.

Please post your ideas!
