good morning to everyone doing the 12 week challenge, hope you are all doing better than me. I dont seem to be able to break my habit of weighing myself every day, some say it is good some say it is bad, it does my head in and i really want to stop it, sets me up for the day, good and bad.Pleased to say that i am still doing well with my water consumption, he he dont know if the bladder would agree and also have used only the stairs at work and no lifts, have done half an hour weights at home and my waist measured are still the same, other than that all is well, cheers stoley

What I'm doing to get ready: Veganomicon came in the mail, along with Vegan Mediterranean Cooking (go, Amazon!). I'm having fun reading recipes and will hit PCC and Whole Foods tomorrow for groceries.
I'm so SO thankful for spring break - I'm seriously NOT DOING ANYTHING because my heart's desire is to stay home and quietly change my life ~:-).

Kathleen, thanks for your great suggestion (it's exactly what I have when I want to share a meal with them)! My temptation was not pizza last night, however; it was coffee (I am an early riser who doesn't do well with late nights, and sometimes the only way I can stay up long enough to be functionally social is to have a cup of stimulation)! So it was half a cup of organic coffee last night and nothing but peppermint tea today in prep for our challenge, which STARTS TOMORROW!

SoQuiet - Can't you have some vegan pizza - veggie pizza with whole wheat crust (I buy mine at Trader Joe's) with or without vegan cheese. That way you won't feel deprived. :) good luck!

Hi, I'm Kathleen, and I'd like to join too. I will finish the 10 in 10 challenge (a couple pounds short) on Monday, but I want to really focus on my goals this Spring, so this challenge sounds great. I will be thinking about my goals to post on Sunday. I've been slacking a bit with exercise since Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I know rededicating myself to a daily workout will be one of them. My big-long-term goal is to hit 130 by August when I turn 40, and I'm currently in danger of not being able to make it so it is time to get serious again!!! I've lost 77 pounds since January 2009, but it is getting harder and harder the closer I get to my goal. Looking forward to the encouragement!

Makes perfect sense! Your format is very simple (love it!) so I think I'll come up with something like that that'll work for me.

Hi Tracy! You asked:

"So Tina, let me just make sure I understand - on Sunday W1D1 we will weigh in and measure as well as determine what goals WE (individually) would like to accomplish over the next 12 weeks. This group is for support, venting and sharing."

Yes, that way, we can all respect our individuality and just show commitment by "reporting" back to the group. You are challenging yourself for 12 weeks and coming to the group for accountability, basically!

Here's an example of a 12-week goal, which I will set this Sunday:

I will (lose 5 pounds) in 12 weeks by (following The Thrive Diet).

Since I'm going to post daily, here's an example of a daily post of my goals:

FOOD: 100% whole vegan (1200-1500 calories)
WATER: 8-8 oz. glasses
EXERCISE: Rake leaves
AFFIRMATION: I am strong, vibrant and radiant! (I like affirmations!)

If you don't want to post every day, then let us know on Sunday what YOUR goal is for the week. For example: This week, I will exercise for 3 hours, 3 days a week."

On the following Sunday, you can let the group know how the week went for you; it doesn't have to be by measurements if that isn't your goal; it could be by how you feel...whatever works for you! You might say, "You know, I just can't get myself to drink so much water - HELP!" Then the ideas come in from the group. I like to vent with lots of humor attached to it so that it stays lighthearted, then quickly pick myself up and keep going.

How does that sound?

So Tina, let me just make sure I understand - on Sunday W1D1 we will weigh in and measure as well as determine what goals WE (individually) would like to accomplish over the next 12 weeks. This group is for support, venting and sharing.

Are we expect a different challenge every week that we will try to accomplish as a group as well or has that been determined yet? For whatever reason I don't do so well with those. Either way it goes, I'm in just wondering...

Thanks to you for sharing! Okay...I'm getting giddy with excitement!

I'm using these few days to wean myself off coffee...
Wisely, Hubby has left town for a few days...hmmm...

I'm adding first names to the group list, if you don't mind (just as I see them - it's up to you). Also, may I add you all to my friends list?

Be well!

Hi Tina, sounds like you have the plan all sorted for us ready to start and sounds great as well. As i live in Australia i know there is a time difference so when all you guys are posting on sunday i think it will be monday here something like that anyway as i think we are around about a day ahead so maybe i will just wait to see when you post and follow on and see what day it is, so if i am not consistant with you guys you will know why ha ha yep it could be old age as well as the memory is declining, hope the body is just going to go with it.Cheers from Aussie land and by the way my name is Anna

Well, crap. I forgot I was going out of town this weekend. I'm going to see comedian Jeff Dunham (the guy with the puppets!) and I won't be home on Sunday. I'll be back on Monday though and I'll do my first check in on Monday. But after that Sundays should work.

Hi Tahena,

I chose a Sunday (not Monday) as the start day because there is usually more time to take measurements in the morning. So my week is from Sunday to Saturday. Having said that, I can TOTALLY understand the confusion. This is what I was thinking:

Sun. Mar. 28 = Start
Apr. 4 = End of Wk 1 (report) & Start of WK 2
Apr 11 = EW2 (report) & Start of WK 3
Apr 18 = EW3 (report) & Start of WK 4
Apr 25 = EW4 (report) & Start of WK 5
May 2 = EW5 (report) & Start of WK 6
May 9 = EW6 (report) & Start of WK 7
May 16 = EW7 (report) & Start of WK 8
May 23 = EW8 (report) & Start of WK 9
May 30 = EW9 (report) & Start of WK 10
Jun. 6 = EW10 (report) & Start of WK 11
Jun.13 = EW11 (report) & Start of WK 12
Jun. 20 = EW12 (report) & End of Challenge

Does that seem right...?

Hi Tina,

Sounds great.
Just a thought though.
To allay confusion. Maybe the Sun Mar 28 could be our Start Day, then the following sunday is Week One? or more correctly End of Week 1 (EW1)
This is something that kind of has me a bit befuddled (mind you I haven't had my tea yet so that's easy to do)... if we all weigh/measure in on the 28th, then that is our starting weight, then the following sunday would be week one, or start of week two..

Just rambling here.

I like the daily input for myself, I really really need the accountability, get right back on track... and try not to get knocked off again. :-)

Hurray for simplicity!

(If you are new and reading this for the first time, you can see the first post quickly by clicking the orange arrow at the top right of this page.)

Heartfelt thanks, again, to all who have joined me. I'll repeat what I had in mind, for clarity:

1. I plan to commit to my SP plan (diet and exercise) for 12 weeks: Sunday, Mar. 28 - Sun. June 20, 2010 (thought the year might help; there could be lawyers out there). SP Buddies, please follow whatever plan works for you, but the group goal is to eat well, laugh a lot, and get some form of increased activity in each week.

2. I plan to wake up this Sunday prepared to hit the ground running! I am taking the time from now until then to clear my head, clear my environment, print out my menus, go shopping for wholesome foods, cut up veggies, bury the Easter Bunny chocolate...(and possibly my husband if he unearths the bunny)- whatever little effort it takes now to make my weight loss effortless in the week to come.

3. On Sunday, I'll get up and record my body measurements and start weight (if you are new, look for the weight tracker on this site).

4. I will start a new thread in the Veg/n forum. It will be: START WK1/12-Week Spring into Shape Veggie Challenge. Here is where I will hopefully meet the 25 (and counting?) SPRING into SHAPERS. We will post our long-term goal for the 12-week challenge (make it a SMART goal; something you can achieve) and our short-term goal for the week (if you will only be posting once a week) or the day (if, like me, you plan to check-in daily for more accountability).

5. After that, let's just keep meeting (weekly is a must; daily by choice) to share a laugh and kick some butt!!

Does that sound all right?

emoticon

Be well,

I am Tina, BTW!

Hey, couldn't resist replying to Maggiesde (is that right??) comment--I keep going to the same Dr too- not great practitioner but at least she remembers my name and doesn't treat me like an idiot! I cant face having to give a potted history to a new GP- they usually look so sceptical and I start acting apologetic for no reason at all!

Did we decide what we are going to report in on for the challenge-
whatever we want to let each other know sounds good to me--?three significant events for the week??? V.

SoQuiet LOL re: french fry bags! (French frie? Surely not..).
I'm totally with you about keeping things simple. My brain glazes over very easily. (I still have the same horrid, negligent doctor I've had for 12 years. Why? Because he has a teeny tiny office and an actual human answers the phone.)
What about just one "Challenge" thread within Calling All Veg's? We could check in and say HEY..
Weigh in weekly and report on that thread..?
Or do people want to start a whole Vegetarian's Challenge. That might be fun. I always thought an Anarchist Challenge would be cool - everyone would make up their own goals and recap/recalibrate/restart every week...
I'm babbling now.

I've only been lurking for a month, so I don't have a clue about setting up teams (I have looked some up, though, and here is my confession: I'm kind of Zen and having too many choices for posts within a team makes me hyperventilate...and paper bags make me think of take-out french fries, so....[squawk]). I am happy to report once a day/week in a thread here in the Veg'n Challenge forum, but if the majority feels otherwise, I'm certainly open to ideas. Please do share!

Welcome, Maggie. I need help! (I'm just thankful I'm not alone - LOL). We can officially post our goals on Sunday. I'll post a new thread in "Veg'n Challenges" for the first week, and we can take it from there. This post was just a feeler to see if I could find some buddies. Please save this post as a favorite and check back here on Sunday. I'll send a reminder out on Saturday... Have a great night! (OM Chandraya Namaha)!

Room for one more? I'd love to join you all as I can use all the help I can get. My goal is to ultimately be a high raw vegan but we'll see how it goes. I'm hoping to drop 70 lbs overall but for this challenge I'll settle for 30 lbs. I'll be running the 2010 Peachtree Road Race (10K) on July 4th and as it stands right now I have a long way to go before I can complete that distance so let the tough love begin!

Your not so quiet after all! emoticon I am ready for another challenge too. Actually I have not posted my weight yet for the ten in ten, and even tho I did not quite make the one this week (post later) I did make the over ten since I started because some weeks were one and a half. emoticon I need just such a challenge as this to keep me going on the one per week goal. today I weigh in at 187.8. I still have around 40 more to go down but when I reach 180 I have promised myself a new bathing suit because the old one is falling apart and I have taken tucks here and there. If anyone follows my blog of soleanjoni.blogspot.com, you can see, and laugh. I try to do deep water Aqua 3 times a week to help in the struggle. thanks for the new challenge, and count me in too. emoticon

I am following Dr Esselstyn's book to Reverse Heart Disease.
My goal is to get one pound slimmer every week until I reach 140, and then stay there forever, healthy.

I notice that my weight always comes up as Kg but believe me, I never weighed 210 Kg LOL It should be reading pounds (that is what my scale says), and I cannot seem to change it so wanted you to know. LOL

My current weight is 191, so say by 3/28 I'll be 189-ish - that means my goal for this challenge is to
weigh 160 by June 20.
Woohoo!

Next race: Akron half marathon 9/25/10

Recent races:
Cleveland half: 2:47:58
Athens half-marathon 2:44:44

Welcome, too:

Vegetara

That makes 5 of us so far! It's a perfect storm!

Even though some of you have a week to go on the Losing 10 in 10 Challenge, I hope you will consider incorporating your old challenge goals into your new challenge goals (if you are making a switch). I have set this 12-week challenge to end with the spring season, but if there is an overlap of challenges, perhaps by making your 12-week goal something like: Finish up the 10 in 10 Challenge AND [insert new goal for the rest of the 12-Week Challenge], you can participate in both challenges with no added stress.

Hope this helps!

To all who are considering joining, please know that you set your own goals in this challenge, which you will work towards for 12 weeks (with everyone's support).

So happy to meet you!

I massively fell off the wagon for the Veg. Lose 10 in 10 so I'm down. :) I'm in the process of moving though, and I need something to help keep me motivated to eat well and exercise during the process.

I'm in. I might lose my mind in the process but I doubt I'll miss it!

Sunday March 28th I'm letting go of all the junk.

Good morning,

Would anyone be interested in joining me for a 12-Week Spring into Shape Veggie Challenge (from Sunday, March 28, 2010 - Sunday, June 20, 2010)?

I am ready to take the celery by the horns and lose my winter weight, but I need a support group...I hate raw celery!

AND...the holidays are coming up and DM has *already* started baking; if I'm going to resist, it's going to take a veg/n village!

If you are motivated to lose weight, get active, and can maintain a sense of humor in the process, I invite you to reply to this post. All things become easier with support, so start thinking about your 12-week goals, which we can post on DAY 1 of WEEK 1, this Sunday (I'll keep you posted for the thread).

Please note that although Sundays will be the "official" report days (when you can let us know if you've lost inches, lost weight, lost motivation, lost your temper, lost the code to the padlock on the pantry, or lost your cravings for junk), I will post daily, just to keep on track, and hope others will be interested in doing the same.

Any takers?

P.S. Challenge or not, please feel free to join us here if you just want to share/need support from time to time!
