k, it' the start of week 3! I'm sure I'll end up reposting this in the official week 3 thread, but I just wanted to update after this morning's weigh-in.

W1 134.5
W2 132.3

W3 131.4

Down .9 pounds this week and 3.1 pounds overall! Not too shabby. :)

Although it's not as great as the first week's drop, it's still on track. I did fall off the wagon the past couple of days (which is why I wasn't posting here, lol - not that I did anything too bad, I just didn't track my calories), but it's a new week and I'm ready to get back on track!

I agree. Weighing in daily keeps me on track. I was up yesterday but down today. If I ony had yesterday's weight I would have been depressed all week.

I weigh everyday too. I've heard that you should only weigh once a week, but doing that drives me nuts (if I happen to be up on the day I weigh, I'm depressed all week), so what I now do is weigh everyday, but average (in an Excel spreadsheet) all the weigh-ins for the week. That way I can see if I'm trending downward or not even with the fluctuations. I even have a little chart. For example, today I was back up to 153.2, but I've been slightly down all week (152.8, 151.4, 151.6, etc.), so my actual average weight for the week was 152.4, which is .6 lower than last week's average. If I had only taken my weight today, I would have thought that I hadn't lost anything. I'm still not happy that I'm not loosing at least a pound a week, but at least I'm not gaining, and this way the daily fluctuations don't drive me crazy.

122.0 this morning, which really surprises me because I had some days where I was pretty undisciplined with calories, and I didn't do as much strength training as I would have liked. Plus I ate an entire Hong Xui Tofu from our local Chinese place last night. I guess pushing the fluids all night prevented the water retention? Anyway, I guess this is good news!

I've heard of the up & down calories working. I've also heard that it works to do high carb & high protein every other day. I think I'm just not getting enough exercise in.

Has anyone heard of 'zig zag dieting?' It's when you increase and decrease your daily calories, but still eat under for the week. for example Monday 1200, Tuesday 1500, Wednesday 1200, thursday 1800, etc. the reason I ask is that I've hit a plateau even though I'm sticking with my diet plan and working out (burning 1200 calories/week plus strength training) and I think I need to change something. this is said to work because it tricks your body into not allowing it to slow your metabolism to adjust to your lower calorie diet. Any comments or thoughts?

The other thing is that I've gone to a few different websites to calculate my Basal Metabolic Rate (calories I need just for my body to sustain itself) and they consistently calculate my calorie need at 1485 (without exercise). My Sparkpeople diet has me eating 1200-1550 even when I'm burning 1200 calories a week! That means on my cardio days if I eat 1400 calories and burn 400 I'm only netting 1000 calories - almost 500 less than my BMR!!! Has anyone else checked their BMR and compared it to Sparkpeople's calorie recommendation? I think I'm not eating enough and my body is resisting my weight loss... any thoughts or comments?

Help!

I weigh myself every morning first thing.
It keeps me on my toes since my willpower is not the best at work.(although it has been getting better since I started the Spark.)
I actually don't want donuts and I can say "no thank you" a lot more. emoticon
I didn't realize that till now.

Focus on moving forward.

I, too, weigh myself every morning. I can't help it. I know better - as a former Weight Watchers leader, I definitely know I should just weigh once a week.

I did end up losing an additional 1.5 (+ .5 I reported on Monday) and I really think it's due to tracking my food. It really makes a difference when I track it - even if I go over, I am AWARE instead of fooling myself.

I am a runner, but may been to change my goals to count cardio instead of just miles. Starting to train for a 1/2 Ironman in July and need more than just running. I get discouraged when I don't get the running miles tracked.

I weigh myself every morning. It's not necessarily the best thing to do, I know, but in general, the fluctuations don't get to me too often - as long as there is still a downward trend.

A couple of weeks ago, my fluctuations were all between 135 and 137. So once I got below 135 for several days, I didn't mind fluctuations between 132 and 134 - only the fluctuation of the day where I went back over 135 got to me. And made me think, hmm, what can I continue to work on.

So now, I don't really mind fluctuations between 131 and 133 because it's still a downward trend. So because I'm not too affected by each day's weight, I haven't felt the need to put the scale away just yet. ALTHOUGH I am hoping to see a 130 soon!

I am curious to know how often everyone weighs themselves? It seems like almost every day someone posts their weight and then changes it the next day. I only weigh myself 1 time a week - I get too depressed by the daily fluctuations.

My cardio sessions are usually 45min-1hour and I burn about 400-500 calories Spinning. I don't really shoot for a calorie goal, just a time/workouts per week goal. Some days I don't feel like going to the gym, but if I go and work out moderately I feel better than doing nothing. On days like today where I feel good, I try and push myself and work out really hard.

When I go on my longer runs, I can burn more than usual, but most days I burn between 200 and 400.

As I come back from my ankle injury, I'd like to fill out my week with more long(er) runs, but I'm having to take such baby steps with my comeback!

I do also walk my dogs 3-5 miles every day, but I don't count that as cardio because my heart rate never goes up. I'm not sure exactly HOW to count it though because I do think it causes me to want to eat a little more!

Personally, I'm a workout-aholic. On a good day I can go into the gym and burn 1000 calories, by running for an hour, then doing the elliptical or stairs.... That being said, in the history of my body's weight struggle, the times I have been most successful losing weight have been when I'm eating moderately, and working out 45 minutes to an hour daily, so maybe 400-500 calories, and also staying active in other ways throughout the day (taking the stairs, going for slow paced walks in the afternoon). I am only working out a lot right now because I have the time for it and I really enjoy it. But it's not necessary to do more than an hour of intense workouts in a day.... In my experience, that just makes me more hungry.

Regardless, I'm trying to stick to my own advice and just working out moderately and eating moderately, not working out like a Biggest Loser contestant and being famished.

Temporary - That's a really good question. I'd be interested in knowing how others respond. I do cardio intervals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and usually try to burn about 500 calories, but sometimes it is more like 300. On Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, I try to do 20 to 30 minutes of easy to medium cardio where I might burn 200 calories, and then I do about 30 minutes of strength training. That is about all I can do. I try to add random acts of fitness into my days as much as possible, i.e. walking my son to school, doing squats while cooking dinner, etc. And sometimes I'll hula hoop if I get to watch T.V. after dinner. I can't imagine working off 1000, much less 2000 calories in a workout. I wonder how they do it or how much time they are spending working out.

I have a question for you guys. How many calories do you shoot to burn in your workouts each day? I went into a thread in the general forums where A LOT of people were burning well over a thousand! A couple of people were even in the 2000s.

I burned about 300 today, and I want to be okay with that!

So, TODAY (Wednesday) I was at 151.4. So, there it is - my 2 pounds for next week. Haha LOL! The way I've been going lately, I'm sure it will be back up by next Monday so thought I'd at least get it out there that I did do it, even if it doesn't stick. I'm going to really try to stay good though. Didn't do my workout yesterday - I was still really sore from Sunday. Today is my cardio day though - and I'm planning to do that this afternoon. Gotta go get my work done first.

yes, runningjo, yesterday I posted my one pound drop, somewhere and on my bar it is still registering Kg instead of pounds. I see this is the right place to register it but when I hit Post you will once again see the Kg I am sure LOL I get a kick out of that because never did I weigh 210 Kg LOL emoticon
I was looking for an emotion that would say Yay, I did it, but could not find one and could not even find a seagull, you know for Jonathan Livingston Seagull, the one who dared to fly higher. He was my mentor in the 70's when I was strapped to a bed with weights after a heavy car accident and the doc could not tell me whether I would ever walk again. someone brought me that little book and after reading it a few times, I said "Yes, I will walk again, and I did! ;-}

I am following Dr Esselstyn's book to Reverse Heart Disease.
My goal is to get one pound slimmer every week until I reach 140, and then stay there forever, healthy.

I notice that my weight always comes up as Kg but believe me, I never weighed 210 Kg LOL It should be reading pounds (that is what my scale says), and I cannot seem to change it so wanted you to know. LOL

Yay! Congrats Meg, about the scale. I generally weigh myself twice just to make sure the scale says the same thing. If it's different, I know it's time to change the batteries!

Post is updated. My apologies for not putting everyone's name down- you never know who is going to drop out of the challenge, so I figured I'd just put your name up when you report your weight.

So.... who's watching Biggest Loser tonight! I LOVE that show, and look forward to the two hours in front of my TV every Tuesday. :-)

I have great news! It turns out that my ancient, rusty scale has indeed been lying to me. I've replaced it and with the new digital I'm down to 176.4 when my old one was showing that i'd lost nothing(I think the spring was stuck). I also used the gym scale this morning to compare... feeling better about all my hard work :)

Well... two things. Eventually after lowering your cal intake over a period of time, you will just get used to that amount and it won't be so hard anymore (I struggle with the same thing, believe me!!). And also, when you're a little bit smaller, you just won't get as hungry anymore because your body doesn't need that much energy to sustain your weight. And you will always know that if you overeat one day, you can just burn it off at the gym, so it's not like you're going to feel deprived.

But I hear ya! I'm so used to eating a lot, it's so hard for me to cut my cals down... The worst part is at the end of the day when I'm out of calories. I HATE knowing that I don't get anymore to eat... I try to save my dinner till later so it's closer to bedtime. Thank god for my boyfriend who calls around 9 every night and takes my mind off it till I go to bed!

So I ate a small lunch yesterday, too, and my weight went down again today. Perhaps that means I really could lose weight if I stayed within my calorie range!

That's good news and bad.

The good news is that hey, I can do this!

The bad news is that I really have trouble picturing staying at such a low calorie total every day for the rest of my life. I can probably lose these 10 pounds, but I have no idea if I'll be able to maintain the weight loss.

I know I'm putting the cart before the horse here, but man, 1700 calories is just so low to me. :(

BLM318 - It's like we are twins. Almost the exact same weight and fluctuations. I was proud that I didn't gain anything over Christmas (even with all the vegan pumpkin pie - YUM!), but now that I'm back at it, the plateau is starting to get ridiculous. Enough already - I want to see the 140s NOW!!!!

KCLAYTON333 - I know exactly how you feel. I was 152 before Christmas, 153 after (not too bad) and now I'm at 151.4. Only 1.5 pounds lost in almost a month. emoticon Trying to stay positive - hopefully next week I will rock the weigh in. emoticon

ps. Great job to all who have lost! Your numbers keep me motivated!

Down a pound this week, which is surprising since I fell off the bandwagon on Thursday and didn't get back on until today :(

Thursday, I went out for drinks with the girls and had some Sam Adams Winter Ale. I looked it up later - 140 cal /12 oz. I had THREE! Friday I was so depressed about the cals. that I ate trail mix for dinner. Saturday, we had an anniversary party, and Sunday was leftovers. I don't think I did too badly on Sunday, I just didn't record anything.

On a positive note, I exceeded my workout goals for the week. I may have binged on food, but I didn't give up my exercise!

Today is a BRAND NEW WEEK. I am back on the wagon and it is riding far away from that binge.

Ahhh! I'm so stuck! SW 153.4, Today I was 153.2. I did hit 151.4 on Wednesday last week, but then I ate Pakistani food on Friday night and that always makes me go up. I just LOVE it soooo much. I've been stuck right around 153 for a month. When will I ever work through this plateau? O.K. I'm going to try really hard this week. I need to catch up!

I'm very happy to have lost at all. This past weekend was spend visiting family...I definitely indulge myself a lot more than I usually do when I'm out of town.

Oop, I replied on the other thread. My sw was 155, at my weigh-in, it was 152.8. I suspect I was a little dehydrated, though. Down 3.2, but will it last? ;-)

Good Morning everyone

My weigh in days are Saturdays.
So based on that
SW: 235.4 (January 16)
CW: 233.2 (January 23)
Down 2.2 lbs

Not to BLM - if you changed your exercise some, you could have water gain due to muscle fatigue, I did that, gained almost 3 lbs of water in a few days when I increased my morning cardio from 30 to 60 minutes!!!

Today 151.4 - up 0.2! emoticon

I worked out 6 days last week and ate in my calorie range 6 days too, so i´m pretty disappointed. But, I´ll blame it on 1) I normally weigh in on Wed, so I only had 5 days to work with and 2) PMS (water weight).

Trying not to let this get me down, but I just felt really on track last week and motivated, but it didn´t pay off.

NEXT WEEK!!

I posted this in the week 1 thread, but here it is in this one, just to keep everything together:

SW: 134.5
CW: 132.3
-2.2 pounds!

(As I said in the other thread though, I had an uncharacteristically low calorie day yesterday, so I don't think I've REALLY lost a whole 2.2 pounds.)
