If it doesn't exist yet, I'm pretty sure a laptop attached to an exercice bike will be put on the market soon :)

I try to do some breaks by exercicing at my office. Actually, it's thanks to Nicole's video on youtube about Desk workouts, I found this website.

I also exercice during commercials on TV with my dumbbells.

Yet I can't switch off my computer during a whole day since it's part of my work.

Nevetherless it's a great challenge to do while being on vacation.

Do they make an exercise bike with a laptop attached?

I spend about 8-10 hours per day online and at least half of that is not related to my home business. I still get my hour or more of exercise in, though. I'm not sure I could match it. Great challenge!!

I'll give it a try. My time online is often in little spurts--checking CNN or the UtahJazz websites to see if there's anything new. It's hard to know how much time I actually spend online. That'll be step one. :p

Nasdaq24 - that's great. I was online about 45 minutes and did 20 minutes Pilates, walked about 45 minutes and did 30 minutes on the stationary bike yesterday.

Today I've done 20 min Pilates and strength training. I'll still get in about 45 minutes of walking.

I love that idea - "buying" computer time with exercise. I will have to give that a try some time!

I am taking your challenge. I know I spend way too much time on the computer. My husband and I used to have a thing where we had to "buy" computer time with exercise. I think we did something like 15 minutes for every hour we worked out. I need to get back into doing that again. I also want to eat when I'm on here. I mean, mindlessly eat...I'm not actually hungry.
I'm going to get out my timer!!

Wow...this is a great idea. I don't know that it will increase my exercise time (I'm already doing fine with that), but I could use a decrease in my computer time!

Most, if not all of us, have a job where we are on the computer all day long. That isn't the point of this. Basically my point was to bring to our attention how much time we really do have for healthy choices. It could be exercising, volunteering, helping a neighbor, making a healthy meal, preparing your breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners for the week. Whatever it is, it's better than sitting in front of the computer or TV and then complaining that you just don't have time to exercise or make healthy choices. We all have time somewhere.

Wow, yeah, I've been thinking along these lines lately.
I think the first step for me will be to actually become conscious of how much time I'm spending on the computer.
I am online all day at work everyday, but I at least need to count the time I am at home.
Thanks for putting my thoughts into words for me!

I don't get to go on the computer until night time and I am up and down at work all day and will usually take a walk after work or at least do something until its time to sit down at night. When my son does karate at the YMCA, I am trying to stay there and walk and my daughter will be working out on Sundays at the YMCA, so I will too. I look forward to posting at night time, but usually after I do something that makes me move. I will keep track tho and let you know.

Great idea. I know for certain that I spend more time online than I need too, and you are right that it definitely can interfere with exerise. I am going to keep a log. Thanks for this challenge.

For me, reading the messages from my various teams is sorta like reading health or diet magazines - I used to read these for motivation. I didn't get much out of the magazine articles that would accumulate in piles by the side of my bed. But I do get encouragement from so many people here at sparks and I like this challenge you proposed - it's true - the amount of time I spend on my teams - reading and responding - should be equally spent on exercising. I am guilty of doing a lot of other busy things with exercise a low priority. I need to go from 2 times a week to 5 times a week on my treadmill - I just don't seem to do it consistently. I'll try to exercise every day this week and let you know if I succeeded.

I kind of doing something similar. I work out and around the house during commercials. If I am online as well, I work during commercials. My back can't take long workouts so these little bits of time add up really fast. I hope that counts.

Interesting challenge (if not impossible) for those of us who are online all day at work... I haven't turned on my home computer in over a week. My non-work internet use has been sporadic, at best, via my phancy phone...

For those of you on my other team I apologize for duplicating this challenge.

How much time do you spend online? Whether it's on Sparkpeople or checking your email or just surfing around. I bet it's more than you spend exercising. The biggest reason (excuse) most people have for not exercising is that they don't have enough time. Just because you are on SP reading about how to be healthy and fit doesn't mean you are putting it into practice. So here is my challenge.

For 1 week devote the same amount of time to exercise that you do to your computer. I bet if you kept track of the actual time it would surprise you.

Let me know how it works for you!

Kelly
