Thank you Twee3mi - very positive and helpful info. Truly, I've never taken PETAs ads into consideration - basically because I don't remember seeing any of them. On their site, I've made use of the Beauty without Bunnies link - I am confused with that whole subject as well. Ellen Degeneres and Pink are both vegans but are spokes people for Cover Girl. Peta doesn't have CG listed as a company that doesn't experiment on animals but a company that only does it when 'necessary'???? That's seems shady/evasive to me. Yet Ellen D is such a strong advocate for animal welfare. I'm going to look into the resources you listed. Thanks again! We never stop learning, Pat

I believe in myself, I am a strong woman. I will reach my goals, NOTHING & NOBODY will hold me down. I will live my life with integrity and intention. I will set a good example for my daughters and my son. I will be a woman that makes my grand children proud when they look at pictures of me long after I've left this earth.

Try this vegansaurus.com/ and also scroll down to the vegan friends links. There is so much more information through there. Peta for me is hard to take seriously because they sensationalism rather than explain. So what if a good actor is vegan? Good for him, but how does that help me to make healthy vegan choices? Also consider the ads they have that depict violence towards women. They are not funny and do not do anything to prove a point. They are buying into the objectification/degradation of women by upholding the cultural idea that women are meat. Also check out this Peta advertisment www.bwvaktboom.com/ Besides not saying anything factual about veganism, it is obviously and disgustingly making light of domestic violence.

If you really want to know if something is vegan read the box. Know where the product comes from. Demand the FDA to make all ingredients visible on the label and all the origins of those ingredients known. When in doubt buy fresh not processed food. Don't rely on an organization to tell you what is vegan or not. The list that was first posted on this site from Peta included at least a few foods that weren't even vegetarian!

www.vrg.org/ingredients/ this resource has a list of all types of ingredients, if you don't know what an ingredient is on the label. Also www.veganwolf.com/animal_ingredients
.h
tm
scroll down and on the right there is a list of animal ingredients.

I do better if I keep it simple and fresh emoticon emoticon emoticon

I started out top weight 245 but that was when I actually got on a scale. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia almost 20 years ago. Over the years I've learned that I do so much better when I eat organic foods and I haven't eaten red meat in years I have been gradually working more raw foods, vegetables and fruit into my diet. I avoid drive through resturants like the plague.

Sugar isn't vegan, because refined white sugar is filtered through charred animal bones. Aren't a lot of those items on the list made with sugar? Also some of the foods have Mono And Diglycerides, and or Monoglycerides which unless specifically stated they are from vegetable sources are from animals. I spot checked the el paso taco shells and they have both, so not even vegetarian! This is a poor list of vegan foods. Try trusted brands like Annie's and Amy's and read the ingredients. Most corporate processed foods have "hidden" animal products and all those chemicals can't be healthy let alone all that sugar.

That is a long list. I'm sure one can reduce it to a healthy one simply by eliminating chemicals, sugar, oils, and sodium.

No wonder so many people are unhealthy.

I just buy single snack portions. Otherwise I can be tempted to eat more. One bag of crisps, One ice cream etc.

I think the important thing for us all to remember is that moderation is key. No matter what it is we are eating, if we have too much of it, it isn’t good for us. But, a little of it in our diets is fine. Eating things that are purely vegan is great. But if we over do it, then we are bound to get deeper into trouble.

I happen to enjoy ginger snaps sometimes, as well as soy chips. But I make sure I stay within the allotted portion size. To help me do that, I use multiple ziplock bags to count out individual portions.

We each need to find tricks that help us stay on track.

I thought the list was quite comprehensive, and I thank you for posting it. Yes, there were some unhealthy choices AND some healthy choices. However, I am grateful for the post all the same. There are days like today, that I am having dinner at someone's house, and I'm hard-pressed to figure out if there is anything they are serving which I can eat beyond the tossed salad. So... thank you!

Was there anything healthy on that list? if there was I couldnt spot it. I felt ill just reading it. It was a list made for a heart attack or diabetes.

1. Fritos and 2. most Tostitos varieties. Both are Frito Lay's products. These really surprised me.

I know people who wonder if you can be thin as a vegan. Well, just eat a bunch of stuff on that list and it's no wonder why some of us have trouble. We argue that we're eating healthy. That's true: but anything with calories can make you gain weight if you don't properly manage your food.

* Items listed may contain trace amounts of animal-derived ingredients. While PETA supports a strict adherence to veganism, we put the task of vigorously reducing animal suffering ahead of personal purity. Boycotting products that are 99.9 percent vegan sends manufacturers the message that there is no market for that particular food, which ends up hurting more animals.
