I keep looking for a race but my plans keep changing (because I moved). Hope to get one in in the next 3 weeks or so.

I'm part of a relay team running 190 miles in May and in June will be running my 1st ever half marathon!! Yikes!! The longest race I've ever run was 5 miles and I'm now coming off a 6 week hiatus after abdominal surgery.. this should be quite interesting!! I do have a friend who's an avid runner/marathoner, PT and holds running clinics so she plans on getting my butt ready! I'm so excited but just as nervous!!

Rome wasn't built in a day....

Not really soon, but I'll be a 1500m and a 3000m in late April. Nervous about it because my body looks COMPLETELY different as to the last time I ran my 1500m competitively.

I just ran a 5K this morning. My husband, 8 year old son and sister-in law ran it with me. It was so much fun and I was so proud of my son!!!! He ran it in 27 minutes :) I had my personal best time- under 24 minutes.

I'm running a 10K in April that I am looking forward to.

Just signed up for the NCAA Final Four 5K in Detroit on April 4. 5Ks are the toughest races we have done. Is is short enough that to do well a person needs to run fairly fast. Not like the pace for a half or full marathon.

Ran a local 5K this morning. First one in a bout a year. Felt good but nowhere near a pr. Not is great running shape yet.

Thanks. I must admit that I had to walk more than I would have liked during the 5K. I've never trained in heat like that. I found it oppressive. But I finished!

I'm running the Race for the Cure in Hartford, CT on Saturday. This is my 'inaugural' race that I ran last year on my 42nd birthday, so it's a special one to me. I hear it's supposed to be close to 90 degrees and I HATE the heat standing still (I'm a profusive 'sweater'), so this is going to be a slow job for me. No pressure, no PR attempts for me!

Good Morning Ladies!!!

Just popping in while I get ready to run my 10K!!! It's pretty chilly this morning and we had rain on Wednesday and Thursday so I missed my last two practice runs so either I am totally rested and will do great or it was not enough training and well....I am hoping the first is true!!!

Anyway, I need to get in the shower and get ready to go!!! Race time is 8:45 so if you are all up...send energy!!!

Have a great day!!!

Good Afternoon Ladies!!!

Sunday is my first 10K and I am getting a bit nervous!!! The weather should be fine and I am feeling good except my weight is up a bit and my left knee is a little achy but I ran 5 miles on Monday and it didn't feel any worse!!! I have another run scheduled for today after work and maybe a short run tomorrow and then rest until Sunday!!!

I did great with my 5Ks so this should go smooth too so why am I nervous...no good reason, just am!!! LOL!!!

Shani good luck with your run on Monday and good for you for surprising your MOM!!! I'm sure she will be thrilled!!!

Have a great rest of the week and I'll report back on Monday with goodie bag and snack details!!!

I have the Greenwood Village, Colorado Goosechase 10K, on June 14th. It's a city fundraiser for children's charities. Lots of entertainment, door prizes, GREAT food (catered by local restaurants) and a great time. After that, there will be more, but nothing I have registered for unti October.

Good luck MissJC!!!! I'm sure you're going to do great! The trail run sounds like a lot of fun. I think they do one in Portland too.

BTW-I think you asked me in another thread if I had chosen a date for my 1/2 and I have. It will be on June 28th. I'm already nervous.

Yesterday I ran (and finished!) my first 10K. It was a great race although a little hard at the beginning where we had to go up a never ending hill before the first song on my Ipod was even half way done! But I'm glad the hill was at the beginning, because I don't' think I could have done it in mile 4 or 5! And also there was this 20mph wind that we were running into while we were going up the hill, so that slowed me down a bit. My goal was to run 10 minute miles and finish in just over an hour. After the hill and the first mile marker, I looked down at my watch and was at 10.22 - which I expected because that mile was mostly "THE HILL" So, I tried to make up for those 22 seconds and ran mile 2 in 9.45, mile 3 in 9.41 and mile 4 in 9.31. And then it got pretty hard for me. I told myself after mile 4 that I only had 2.2 miles to go, just 20 more minutes! But, I was tired and my legs kept telling me to slow down. I tried to keep my pace the best I could, but since there was no mile 5 marker, I really didn't know if I had slowed down or not. I just kept running. I looked down at my watch at the 6 mile marker and it said 20.36 for the past 2 miles which was over 10 minute miles, so I had slowed down a bit, but I was hoping that since miles 2, 3, and 4 had been a little faster, then I would be ok. I rounded the corner and saw the time - 1.00.59 and I was almost there. I sped up and passed a guy who had been in front of me the whole way (YAY!) and finished in 1:01.47 which averages to be 9.58 miles! Exactly what I was looking for! The official results have not come out yet so I don't know my place or division place, but I was happy with my first 10K time. But now I must run another one to beat that one hour mark! I see that it's in my future for sure! Last year at this time, I couldn't run 6 miles in less than an hour and 10 minutes so I guess training really does work! Thanks for all of the support!

Next up - Another 5K on Saturday in Ft. Collins, CO! :) My dh is running the CO on Sunday so I found this 5K to run the day before that! And it happens to be right across the street from our motel so it worked out perfectly!

Good Afternoon Ladies!!!

Okay I got my 2nd 5k under my belt!!! It was a wonderful day for a run!!! I had a few bumps in the road getting there but all in all it was a great day!!!

Long story short, I had water heater issues yesterday, so I barely slept last night, had not prepared food the morning and wasn't sure what I was going to wear so I really wasn't sure how the morning would go!!! I finally got the water heater working at 4 this morning so I could at least get a lukewarm shower!!!

The weather was great although it was pretty windy...even the elite runners were commenting on the heat and wind before the race!!!

Anyway, I'll save the rest of the details for a blog but I just wanted to check in and report my time.... 28:09 chip time which is 2:39 faster than my first 5k 2 weeks ago!!!

Oh as far as goodie bags, not much at this race either but the food provided was excellent!!! Lots of Clif and Ottwalla products, fresh fruit, tons of bakeries and bagels (which I did not eat) and numerous sport drink vendors!!! There was a great raffle and lots of awards given...I missed placing in my age class by about 40 seconds!!! We left before the raffle as it was getting hot already!!!

SHANSTORES21 I'm sure you will do great!!! Just run your race and have a great time!!! I so envied the 10K runners after I finished my 5K!!! Can't wait to hear all about your first!!!

Happy Running everyone !!!

It's the night before my first 10K and I am a bit nervous! I have been listening to people around refering to something in the race as "THE HILL" so I'm thinking it going to a pretty tough race. Since it's my first one, I am just going to take it easy and see where I end up. And then I can focus on beating my time at the next one! Good luck to anyone else who is racing!

Sounds like a weekend with some great races and great times! I ran my 5K on Saturday and got a new PR! 27.31! I was really shocked, but the weather was perfect and there were a lot of people there cheering us on. I placed 2nd in my age group - my dh placed first in his age group for the 10K (3rd overall) and got a PR of 39.17! My sister was first in her age group and my son was the first (and only!) boy in his race! :) Overall a great day! I wrote about it on my blog if anyone wants to read it!

Super racing, folks!

I ran my first 5K this morning. I was pleased with my time of 30:08. Crazy thing was my number was 241 and I finished 241st.

And for the important goodie bag details, I got a t-shirt, water bottle, Twins game ticket and coupons for local sporting goods stores. Plus there was coffee and bagels for my chilly (it was in the 40s this morning) family waiting for me at the finish line.

Hey I finished my first 1/2 marathon. I am sooo happy. My time was 2:13:19 (10:11 pace). Today my thighs are sore but besides that I feel pretty good. Except for the fact that I got my period the day of the race. Thank you to whom ever invented ibuprofen...I live on the stuff during this time of the month. Hope everyone else did great in their races.

Hello all! I'm a little behind, I ran a 5k on Saturday and for those of you that have one coming up, enjoy!! That are really a lot of fun! I am also training for a 1/2 marthon in June.

Berly - 2 more miles, no sweat! You can do it!!

Celia - Way to go with the 1/2 marathon training!! Keep me posted on your progress.

Mtnbikenv - Wow, Saturday!! That is awesome. Good luck!!

I have a 5k on May 10th in Villanova PA-- my first, raising money for melanoma awareness. Fitting this is my first race since my best friend died from melanoma in 2004.

I'm also partnering with a sparkfriend to train for the Philadelphia half marathon in November (Nov. 23). I'm actually using online coaching to help me get there safely.

Pat--good luck on the broad street run. Let me know how that is, I may want to do that race next year.

I am running in my first half marathon on April 19th. The 2nd Annual Dismal Swamp Stomp. Because of a Bartholin Cyst, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to run....but if things stay like they are now then I am off to run my first 13.1. Because of my cyst I only got up to 11.25 miles on my long runs but I do not think it will be a problem to go 2 more miles on race day.SMILE Just going to put one foot in front of the other and enjoy the race. Of course I say that now but my competitive nature will take over and I will push my self to the limits. No matter what it will be a PR. HAHA That is the good thing about first races.

This is a great idea. I will be doing the Philadelphia Broad Street Run (10 miles) on May 4th. This is my 1st race. What did I get myself into? I am using the Jeff Galloway method (walk 1 minute; run 3 minutes). I have worked myself up to 7 miles. My goal is to simply finish. I am running with a few others from work. This is the 1st race for most of us. I am still pretty nervous about it and will take all the cheering I can get.

Thanks,
Pat

Ok my fellow Cafe members....Anne had posted a great thread for Jackie when she ran her 1st 5k for us to take out our pom poms to cheer her on...it went really well and I think that we all need a little help from our friends from time to time.

So, if you have a race of any kind coming up...post it here and we will huddle up with you and help to motivate you and cheer you on!
