Oh, that sounds perfect! Thanks for doing that :)

I can't believe this snow. I thought when I moved to the south that it would be warm! I am so glad its the weekend, and most people dont have to go out to work. My dogs have spent an hour dragging their noses through the snow and having fun - too cute!

I remember that the NC Roadrunners Club had a table there at the race last year with brochures about the club and future races. That might be a good place to meet after the race. I've sent a message to the club president to make sure the club will have a table again this year, but haven't heard back yet. It's an idea.

Woohoo!

I dont think I am going to be able to do a race in March - thats crazy time for me, and I still dont know when I will be in Puerto Rico (or, even if I am going).

But, EXCITING NEWS, I decided today that I am quitting my job on 3/31 - woooohoo! So I will have lots of time starting in April. OMG I cannot wait - this job has been a nightmare!

Abso-tootin'-lutely! I just registered for the Run for the Roses and for the 10K on March 6th in Cary. So it's official. ARRHHH!!!

I was about to register for the half-marathon in May, but I didn't want to be hasty (been there - done that!). Plus I didn't want to spend the additional $40 right away. SO we're on...argh!

Duh!! I totally forgot about the 5k on Sunday. Forget that. I probably won't run next Saturday at all. I need to go sign up. I'll circle back to you via email.

Oh and I did not get an email about a google calendar.

Shandra, why did you have to get that dumb song stuck in my head?? :)

I tried to set up a google calendar, but I think I screwed it up. Hubby can help me later. Did either of you get any kind of email notification about it?

I am in for Saturday the 6th, but would like it to be a somewhat shorter run - I am running the 5k on Sunday and dont want to push it too hard the day before. I could do this Saturday at 4:30, too, if you can make it.

Marsha, you're my inspiration!!! I could launch into an 80's Chicago song now... but I'll spare you. :-)

Yes, Wednesdays are out for me for a while. This week is totally wacky for me. Totally! But going forward the standing rule is that I will have fairly flexible evenings. Let's do Saturday mornings then. Can we say 9:30am starting February 6th? This Saturday is tricky - could shoot for 4:30pm but that's tough. My kids aren't going to want to let me out of their site after I've been working all day long. On second thought, I may have to set this Saturday out and run on the treadmill at like 6am.

I like the Google calendar idea. Do you know how to start one?

Shandra said that normally Wed. evenings were out for her, but maybe not this week? Normally Thu would be fine for me, but I have dinner plans this Thu. Actually, normally all my evenings are pretty unscheduled - but I made the dinner plans before we started talking about running this week.

No eye of the tiger for me ... just plenty of huffing and puffing. Nearly stopped a couple of times, but I just slowed way down and caught my breath instead. You guys are doing really great on pace, especially since I think you're taking more frequent walk breaks - so probably when you're running, you're going faster than me. Maybe I could keep up with you on shorter runs, though!

Marsha, your run was AWE-SOME. So awesome it gets 2 words! 15 minute intervals, woohoo! Maybe one day Shandra and I will be at your level :)

Shandra - I could commit to Sat am runs. I would, obviously, prefer a later time this coming Saturday, but I am flexible.

What about Wed for all 3 of us? Was that out for some reason? There is too much going on here, I am losing track! We should set up a google calendar or something :)

I can do any day, but would need it to be later if on Tue or Thur. Im really flexible otherwise.

LOL - You've got the eye of the tiger, Marsha. I am not worried about you powering through a 10K. Not in the least! You got this girl.

This week: Having run three straight days this week, I have to take Monday off from running. Tuesday night I work. Thursday is good for me but not Marsha. I may not be able to join you guys this week, but Sarah if you're up for a Saturday run that might work. Also can go ahead and look at the following week...

Well, I only ran 4.25 miles (including walk breaks) - the rest was warmup/cooldown. I do want to do shorter runs during the week, though. Now that I'm running longer distances I can't do 3/week of the same thing - I just get too tired.

That 10K is gonna be a song for you, Marsha! You are already running 5.2 miles now!! Did you not see your own run results, woman? LOL

It sounds like the three of us are just on different paces and points in our training: Marsha is much farther advanced than Sarah and I in terms of distance and pace/intervals. We could all meet on Saturdays and break off into our individual paces after an initial warmup run. Or we can have a tentative weekday meetup.

BTW, Saturdays at 9:30am are good for me (except next Saturday - could do earlier (hahaha, Sarah) or later).

Great run, you guys!!! You really are getting to be a couple of speedsters. :-) Were you doing 8-min intervals?

Here's my run from today, at the Duke wall:
connect.garmin.com/splits/230
06748

I'm up to three 15-min intervals plus a 10-min interval. Next week my long run will be four 15-min intervals.

I would be up for doing a somewhat shorter run during the week, though. I can't do Thu this week but I could do Mon or Tue. That March 10K is creeping up on me! I won't get to 6 mi before then, but I'd love to get to 5 or 5.5.

I am in for a set Saturday, 9:30am run. T and Th are a little harder for me - I have a new committment at work, where I wont get done on those days until around 5:30. So, I could do it, but would need it to be later. I would have to come home, let the dogs out, then go.

Speedsters!! :) YAY! Most runners would consider that a snail pace time - ha! But, I am crazy happy about it!

I can't say I enjoyed THE RUN (hahahahah!), but I too feel great now. And I think the scale will show some progress tomorrow, so I feel vindicated. And you helped me check off Day 3 on my 10-Day challenge. Sweet! Give Esther a big hug for me too.

I was thinking the same thing in the shower this morning. My schedule is starting to flatten out - at least for the next 6 weeks or so before it changes again. I should be available on most Saturdays going forward for a while. During the week, I could do an evening after 6pm any night other than Wednesday. (Note: This upcoming week is an exception to just about everything I am saying about availability - hahaha.) So could we set a standing Saturday run for the three of us (Marsha - I feel like I haven't seen you in EONS!). The Saturday 9:30am time is best for me given my weekend stuff. Then maybe a standing potential run each week? I prefer T or Th but could also do M or F.

Here is the link to our run today - it was great! I feel really good now.

bit.ly/90zCnw

Mile 3 was 13.39 pace - thats really fast for us! :) I didn't hate the am run as much as I thought - can either of you make it a set weekly time? I would love that. I like the ATT trail much better than Duke wall, too - its less hills and not banked, so it makes it a LOT easier for me to run, for some reason.

Im free all day Saturday, so its up to you. Well, let me say, I am free after about 9am - before then, I have a date with my pillow! I know you like to run early - would that be early enough?

Marsha - you free for a run on Saturday?

Maybe we should start an email list, rather than using this board. Seems like it would be easier for all 3 of us to keep track of.

Well, actually, I dont know where to run at night that would be near Duke. I think the Duke wall area would be hard at night - the edges are kind of banked and you need to be able to see your footing. And I dont know anywhere else, other than at Southpoint. I cant wait for longer days, so its still light after work!

Maybe we can just run at UNC again, maybe at 6:15? Or, just schedule something for Saturday instead. That might be easier, actually - this week is kind of chaotic at work, and since I carpool with my hubby it makes it difficult to schedule. Let me know what works for you.

I am fine to run near Duke, but can we make it 6:30pm in that case? I am a bus commuter and would need time to get home to get my car first. That works for me since I haven't run at Duke yet. Alternately too we can run at UNC or somewhere nearby.

Thursday at 6 works for me, as long as it is somewhere near Duke. I will be at work until about 5:30-40 that day.

I can do 4 miles, and probably 5. Ugh. I dread the thought! You're killin me here, Shandra! :)

Let's do it! Because if I hem-and-haw and don't carve out the time now, it will get eaten up in my calendar. Shall we say 6pm Thursday evening?

Now, I have to check my training schedule, but I think I have Thursday set as either a 4 or 5 mile day (probably 4). Does that sound like mileage we can all do together?

Yep Shandra, we missed you!

Here's the Garmin link for the run, Sarah:
connect.garmin.com/activity/2

Ignore splits 9, 10, & 12 - those were the laps we skipped over. We ran a total of about 28 minutes out of 51 minutes total time.

I might be able to run Thursday night - not sure yet though.

Tomorrow would have to be early for me. I have birthday plans with my daughter and family, a short work shift, and then a date with my husband. I am planning to be up early to get in a run.

What's everyone doing Monday? I could do a run Monday (I think Sunday will be just as tight for me as tomorrow).

I would be up for a run on Saturday, as long as it isnt early.

Shandra - you still want to run tomorrow?

I had a good, but short, run today. The park I went to has a trail that I thought was about 1.5 miles. Turned out to be .5 miles, and I got so bored of going round and round that I cut it short. Going to do kettlebell with the hubby tonight too, though.

Good for you Sarah! Enjoy your run.

Well, I had a longish run today so I won't run again until Saturday. Let me know if either of you are interested in a run on Saturday. If you run tomorrow, have fun!

My plans for tomorrow just got cancelled, so I would be up for a run if you guys are.

I am playing hooky from work today and it feels SO NICE. I am just putzing around my house, being a little lazy. Gonna go run at a little park here in Hillsborough this afternoon with my dogs. I LOVE lazy days!

15+2 intervals?! You go, Marsha!!! I am just now about to start working up to either 4+1 or 5+1 for 55 minutes. I am trying to loosely follow the "Spark Your Way to a 10K" plan. That is awesome!

Well... Wednesday is out for me, so it's either Friday evening or Saturday morning. I prefer Saturday earlier, because I hate eating before I run in the morning. It looks like we might not be able to get the three of us together this week then. With 2 kids, a husband, and 2 jobs, I gotta get workouts in early in the morning when I can or they ain't gonna happen. I think my nights will free up a little bit next week once I decide which class I am taking this semester. For now, I have to visit both, so I am booked M-Th for now.

I can't do Wednesday evening this week, but you guys should go ahead if you can. I could probably do Friday evening. I can do Saturday, although I like the later time too because it's so freakin' cold in the mornings these days.

Ran 3 15+2 intervals today, a little too fast on the first couple ... barely made it through the third one! Going to start working up to a fourth one next week.

How did the new job go?

I could do Wednesday, but not Friday. And I could do Saturday, but not before 10 or 11am. I am SO not a morning person :)

This week is finicky for me. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday are no-go for me. I could tentatively do Wednesday evening (may change) or definitely do Friday to kick off the long weekend right. How do y'all feel about those?

Also available for Saturday morning.

Yeah, that would probably push us back to 13 minute miles. But, hey, thats still pretty fast in my book :)

I won't be able to run in the morning - it would have to be afternoon, so I guess that won't work out. Are we planning on meeting on Tuesday?

Shut up!! No way we ran 12minute miles?!! I remember that we started off walking to the hospital and I didn't time that part. That might have been another 7minutes, so does that put us at a 13 minute mile?

I am up for a run on Saturday morning. It would have to be around 10am or so, since I need to get back and ready for an appointment at 2pm. I've never been to the Eno River, so I would be up for that.

Marsha, I wish you could have joined us tonight - we had a great run! I mapped it on Spark - here is the link:

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness
_m
aps_view.asp?rt=102813

When I put our info in Spark, it said we did - get this - TWELVE MINUTE MILES. I dont think I have ever done a 12 minute mile in my life. WHOO-HOO! I am very proud of myself right now :) It was a good route - very hilly, but the downhill parts felt soooo good!

Is anyone up for a run or hike this weekend? I love to hike at Eno River, and know of a good 4-ish mile trail.

I didn't have any trouble seeing the path at Duke last night, but there are roots and such in a few places and even in the daytime you have to watch your step in those spots. It's not brightly lit, but I guess my eyes adjusted.

Thursdays are not always bad for me, but I have other plans this week. Hope you ladies have a great run!

Oh, and its the Kettlebell Goddess DVD. I did 2 workouts from there (there are a lot of different targeted 30 min workouts). We bought our bells at a sports store in St Louis, but I know you can get them at Dicks or Sports Authority, or online too. Its an awesome workout!

Is it hard to see your footing at Duke Wall at night? The path was so banked, I would be afraid of stepping in the wrong spot and twisting an ankle (Im a huge klutz).

Are Thursdays in general bad for you Marsha, or just this one? I would also be up for a run this weekend (or a hike?). My hubby is out of town all weekend, so I have freedom! :)

Sorry I missed both you guys tonight! I ran about 30 minutes total plus walking and I was BEAT. Still getting my energy back after that cold.

The trail around Duke East Campus still had quite a few people on it, even at 6:30 when I finished up. The trail itself only has a few lights on it, but it's right by the road so there are streetlights nearby and it's pretty easy to see where you're going. I've never run at UNC, but the quads are very nice and there are lights around. You guys have fun on Thursday!

What kettle ball workout are you guys doing? And where'd you get your kettles?

I am not sure about some place in between to run honestly. Like you, I am still learning the area really. I know that UNC has a lit track and tons of lit sidewalks and roads that I see folks running all the time. I would imagine Duke to be the same although it seems more wooded. Anyway, let's figure it out. You can email me at work at: shandra_jones@unc.edu to coordinate. I don't know if I will be able to get to the SP webpage from work this week until this thing gets fixed, so email me at work.

Oh, sorry you missed tonight! This just was not a good day, huh? Marsha - hope you had a good run?

I am available on Thursday at 6pm. I am ok with either Duke or UNC (as long as there would be a place to park?). Is there anywhere between those two that would be easier to get to?

Right now, I am watching my husband do the kettlebell workout that has made me unable to walk. He thought I was a baby, but he cant handle it either. Sweet revenge :)

I'm on a downward trend on our runs! I missed today too, because I JUST not got home. I had meetings all day, missed my bus to get home in time and haven't been able to access the SP website from work this week. Sheesh!

Marsha said she's not available Thursday night, but I NEED to get a good run in. Sarah, when do you wanna go? I am going to see a friend in the hospital and can meet you after that. Say, 6pm somewhere? We could run around the UNC campus or Duke.

Sorry to hear that, Sarah. Rest up and feel better soon.

Shandra, I'm still planning to run. I don't know anything about the trails at Woodcroft, so unless you let me know a different place to meet, I'll just plan to run at Duke East Campus. Do you want to meet me there around 5:45?

Tundra running :) That makes me imagine us running across Antarctica, with a little army of penguins and polar bears chasing us!

I am SO sore! I didn't do any exercise last night, even though I had planned on it, because I found out some great news - I got into UNC law!! YIPPEE! So, we ended up going out to eat to celebrate.

I have to walk to the other end of campus today, so I will see how it goes. Once I get moving I feel better, but it still hurts. I feel like such a wuss!

I dont know of any indoor tracks, sorry!

Hey hey hey! Oh Sarah! I so hope you feel better tomorrow. But the reality is that it likely will be worse tomorrow. Get up and, as hard as it will be, you need to do some jumping jacks or walk/rjog on a treadmill for 10minutes. Then stretch. Guarantee you'll feel much better than if you don't!

I ran my errrand today, so I can meet earlier than 6:30pm if we want. I could probably get anywhere around 5:45 or 6pm. But it is going to be C-O-L-D tomorrow. I am willing to try to brave it, but this will be my first foray into tundra running. You guys know of an indoor track anywhere??? There's one at the Meadowmont Fitness facitlity but I don't know if they do a per diem charge for usage.

Oh my Sarah ... hope your legs are feeling stronger tomorrow!

I have been waiting to see how I feel tonight before committing to running tomorrow. But I took a 45 minute walk this afternoon and felt great, and I'm feeling pretty good right now even without any cold medicine. Yesterday I took a very short run and coughed a lot afterward - but I think that was good for me! All that deep breathing cleared out my lungs.

So I think I can get through a run just fine tomorrow. If you ladies have more energy than I do, you can run a couple more intervals while I walk. I'm open as far as location. The Duke wall is fairly well-lit at night. I think Shandra also said that the trails around Woodcroft have good lighting? Clearly the ATT trail requires flashlights!

Oh, ladies, I am not sure if I will be able to run tomorrow! I did a new workout last night with Kettlebells - if you haven't used them, they are SERIOUS. My legs are soooo wobbly today - my hips and quads and inner thigh muscles are just refusing to work at times. Its so pathetic its funny. My hubby says I am doing 'the chicken dance', cause I cant walk right!

So, hopefully I will be back to normal tomorrow? But I have no idea. This worries me because I usually take a long time to get sore, so if I feel like this now, I am afraid it will be 10 times worse tomorrow! We shall see though. As long as I have control of my legs, I will run. But, I would take about 20 steps now and just plop over on my face :)

And, I am open to anyplace, and 6:30 would work great for me!

Shandra, I hope your son is much better very soon and you can get some rest! The run was great today but we missed you. :-) Let us know how your schedule looks when you get it sorted out ... mine is pretty flexible so I should be able to meet up at least once a week whenever you guys can do it.

This cold is kicking my tush ... off to bed now.

Before 8am is sooooo far out of the question for me! I just don't do mornings :) Its a struggle to get to work by 10am most days for me lately!! I know, I have it so rough....

But I don't have any scheduled obligations in the evenings, so any day works for me. Plus, weekends would be open too (though harder to schedule regularly). I have a very flexible schedule, so I am happy to work around the needs of you both.

Glad its nothing too serious with your son! Enjoy your day taking care of him (or, them, including your hubby!!) tomorrow! And a 2nd job?? Are you nuts??!!

I love the way you think, Sarah! And I am so glad it was a good run! I was thinking of you guys this evening as we made our way home. I am sorry that my message didn't get to you in time though. I will call next time, but I was weighing the etiquette mistake of calling while the doctor was coming in versus texting only 30min before our meetup. Either way, I lost etiquette points! hahaha

Thank you for asking. My son seems to be getting better slowly. He has gastroenteritis (sp?) - fancy word for a stomach bug. So he's on the baby version of the BRAT diet, and I'm fielding poop every few hours. I am exhausted actually, but I am looking forward to the idea of spending all day with my husband (and son) tomorrow.

I would LOVE to meet twice per week. I am open to it even if we can't get all three of us together. Like you, Sarah, this keeps me on-track and makes me push farther/harder. And it's fun! Next Wednesday I have a meeting in the evening. I am also starting a second job and should know my schedule tomorrow. Depending on schedules, I would be open to meeting twice during the week or one weeknight and one weekend. The only issue is that, at least during January when my husband is working a lot of shifts, it might have to be really early or late on weekends (before or after 8am/pm). Weeknights might fluctuate. Anyhoo, I'll let you guys weigh in now.

You've got this!

Shandra, you missed a good run tonight! I hope your little man is feeling better, and that life isn't too chaotic for you right now!

Any suggestions for next weeks run (assuming you ladies want to run next week, too)? I would actually be up for meeting twice a week if you would be interested. I realized on my way home tonight that having you two to run with is kinda like having a personal trainer (an obligation, plus I push myself harder than I usually do on my own), just without the huge price tag!!

There are always people with dogs on that trail, and it's pretty wide with grass on either side, so there should be plenty of room for her. Sounds great to me!

Do you mind if I bring my dog, Esther? She loves to run, and is well behaved on a run. If I bring her, I will get there early to walk her a bit so she can get some energy out before you guys arrive!

I think I'll be fine, since this crud is only in my head and not my chest. I can tell that my energy is a little lower than usual, so who knows ... I may poop out and have to walk some. Guess I'll just see how I feel!

So, 4pm tomorrow at the wall - the part facing Whole Foods, right? Are both of you feeling up to it? I know all 3 of us were feeling kinda crappy earlier in the week. I am okay, but might be lagging (more than usual). I think my body has been battling a cold, successfully, but its taking a toll on me.

I love having an excuse to leave work early!

YAY for last night! I am so glad that we did it. My left knee is a little sore and tender today - just another reminder that I need new shoes!! I think my body is just shocked at running outside for the first time in a loooong time, too. So I am being rather lazy today - running errands and cleaning the house. It feels so gooood to not be at work! :)

Can't wait for Wednesday!! If you guys dont mind I might bring Esther, my dog that is a good running partner. She seriously motivates me because she gets SO EXCITED to run! She even knows when I spell out R U N, and goes all nutso!

It was AWESOME running with you ladies last night!!! Seriously, it was awesome! I ran again this morning - much harder (and longer-feeling) by myself, but I did it. And I laughed that I wanted us to run to the park. Ha!! That was much farther up the street past where we turned around. I only made it because I started at the daycare center instead of the Souper Salad.

Anyway, thanks and can't wait until Wednesday. Merry Christmas!!

Ok, sounds great! I will be in a dark blue Audi. Curly blonde hair in a ponytail, and I am tall.

I usually park over in the side lot (near the Souper Salad ... there's also a nail salon over there, I think). It's right by the entrance to the trail. I drive a beat-up old red Corolla and I have longish red hair that will be a in a ponytail. :-)

OK, silly question probably, but - are we just meeting right at the trail head? Or in a parking lot in front of Kroger? I just read back through our previous posts and ended up confusing myself :)

See you ladies tonight!

I have been SO tired lately, too. I didn't even make it to Zumba class yesterday because I slept so little Mon night and felt groggy all day.

No worries about tonight - we'll do what we feel like doing and write off the rest! :-) Plus nobody will be slower than me - I'm the champ!!!

I LOVE kettlebells! You should definitely check it out. They are SO hard, but really fun. Its by far the best workout I have ever had. I collapse in a heap after doing it! Its a great combo of strength and cardio.

I am scared about tonight too - I always have a secret fear that I will be the slowest and everyone will snicker at me. Oh, its like high school gym class all over again! :) But I am really looking forward to it!

Hmmm... My gym is considering launching a kettle ball glass, which I would love! It might be my reason for going back there. I was just otherwise going to ride out my membership until it ends later this year. They have Zumba too, but it's scheduled at times I can never make. I will have to check out this class you mentioned at some point.

Okay, so tonight's run might be hard for me. I admit to not getting in a run since Saturday. My goal is to run 3x per week, so I know I will still get my goal met this week. But yuck! Twice per month - every single month - I have 2-3 days when I CAN BARELY MOVE, I am just soooo tiiirrreeeddd. I become almost useless for those days. My husband is used to it and pretty much knows when it will happen, but I am always surprised. I guess I expect my body to have adjusted to this by now, but nope. So I have been too tired to drag myself onto the treadmill, and I am looking forward to tonight (although also scared). lol...

The Zumba class is so much fun. It's at Rumba 54, a Latin dance club! The address is 2223 E. Hwy 54 ... it's in a little strip that has several restaurants and a couple of stores, not far from the intersection of 54 and 55.

The instructor, Luci, teaches there 6:30pm Tue-Thu and also on Saturday mornings (10:30, I think). She also teaches at some fitness clubs around town, but it's really CHEAP at Rumba 54 - only $7 a class, or you can buy a 5-class pass for $30. A huge bargain.

I'm going tonight!

Your run sounds great! I didn't muster up to get on the treadmill today, but I definitely must tomorrow morning.

Where do you take your Zumba class?

Way to go on a great run! Slow and steady is my way, for sure. :-)

Yep, zumba is a blast. I am pretty clumsy but I enjoy it anyway, and I'm always soaked when I'm done, so I figure it's doing what it's supposed to do!

I just finished my run, and it went pretty well! I did 5+1's again and was pooped. I realized that I keep finding excuses to stop for a second (jump up on the sides of the treadmill), like fixing my ponytail, changing songs, etc. But, really, I was just pooped :)

I did 4 5 minute runs, with 1 (and twice, 2) minute walks. I only went 2.3 miles, with warm up/cool down. Slow and steady, right?

Zumba looks so fun! I bet its a killer workout!
