I have loved reading this thread.

Some AHA moments for me:
- the idea of being aware of things "from the neck down" really helped me to get out of my head and be aware of the sensations through my body - not in any way analysing them or holding onto them or placing a hard focus on them - just letting them come and go
- having a mental image of the electrical impulses in my brain as my senses received information - not going past that, just being aware of it. This was really powerful - suddenly everything was much more alive and sharper and things I would not notice before, when I was busy thinking, I became aware of
- setting out with no expectations or plans - letting go of everything I think I know about something and just inviting a new experience of it (works in meditation and in daily life)
- realising those rare moments when time feels like it has stood still and everything falls away are glimpses of awareness
- that there is something which words cannot name or describe that has been with me all along. Trying to think about it seems to make it foggier. I can only say what it is not - it is not "like" anything

Didn't even realize it was a poem. I know It is the name of a PBS exercise show, and they have a theme song that mentions the body electric. Thanks for sharing the poem!

It's incredible how strong those electric vibrations can feel sometimes, yet they go totally undetected as we become lost in thought.

As I was experiencing the energy field in my body yesterday, the title of Walt Whitman's poem "I Sing the Body Electric" came to mind. I have not read the poem since high school, so I looked at it this morning. I will share the first stanza; it is my AHA moment of the day:


I Sing the Body Electric, by Walt Whitman, 1819-1892

Hey Miss Ducky - thanks for the invite on my page.

I would love to talk about Reiki. Is this a good place to do it? It has brought some "AHA's to my life - like I am really present went I give and receive Reiki. I feel connected to the Infinite Source.

But my AHa for today is - I realized I am in love with The Beholder. This is a term that a singer at AGAPE (Michael Beckwith's church) used. I just heard it on line this morning.

To me this speaks to the Observer that Eckhart talks about. But for some reason it really resonated with me. I kept thinking about the saying "Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder". And my heart just opened up. Ahhhhhhhh. Whoever, whatever and WHERE ever that Beholder is - I love you!!!! :) emoticon emoticon Kae

Interesting! I have never heard of Tolle's The Art of Presence... must check it out! Thanks for sharing!

But yes... Awareness is definitely key to weightloss and every other aspect of our life! Way to go for having that realization! I agree... if I am not aware... I can shovel a whole schwack of food into my mouth and blow my whole day in moments... lol!

This AHA moment actually came to me while listening to "The Art of Presence" in my car.

The AHA moment was when he was talking about overeating in the workshop. Just a brief few sentences on it really, but it brought to light for me a lot of the issues that I have with food. He was talking about presence and how not being present can cause overeating. I have also heard him talk about how when we overeat we are trying to add on to ourselves - to make ourselves more - this is the ego at work.

So, it may seem obvious, but for me overeating almost always happens when I am not present. It's an automatic, almost robotic, response to either a situation I don't want to deal with, or a feeling that I need a reward, or just the fact that the food is there and it will taste good. That's my AHA.

Now, what to do about it. More advice gleaned from Tolle. He says just sit there and become aware of the wanting to overeat. Once aware of it, you can either just observe it or act on it. As long as you are aware, it's ok. It is interesting how this works.

I just has a huge aha! moment in another thread!

I do not blame my dad for this, for he did not know better, but I now realize, growing up, that food and me and my dad was our bond! He honestly taught me how to eat things that weren't so great!

Thick white bread with tons of butter and marmalade is just one example! With a quick calculation of calories in one slice being 400, and we would probably eat 3 or 4 of them, with lots of milk!

I know I have been aware of this to some level, but not to this extent!

I felt close to my dad when we sat and shared food together! I enjoyed these moments of gorging on the yummy treats! Pretty much devouring an entire dozen pack of donuts together... at an average of 300 calories a pop, that's over an entire days calorie allotment in one single sitting (1800)... not to mention the multiple glasses of milk to wash it down! OH MY!

I do not eat like this anymore... thanks to my embarking on figuring out how to live a healthier and better life!

I no longer agree to find enjoyment through food in that way! I no longer wish to hold onto those memories for what they were!

I agree to yes, be grateful for my dad and those memories, but to make healthy choice alternatives!

I am not saying that I will never have a piece of bread with butter and marmalade... it will just be healthy nutrionally filled bread, with becel 50% butter and not piled on, with reduced sugar and double fruit marmalade!

So, with my recent interest in The Four Agreements, I have had many more aha! Moments!

Agreements... our ego is made up of a bunch of agreements! In order to dissolve the ego, we must recognize and become aware to the agreements in our mind! In our mitote, our maya, our congestion of thoughts in our mind! Although I have been aware of this already, this has allowed me to understand this at yet another level!

How many agreements do you have that aren't necessarily in conjunction with the lifestyle changes you are trying to make now?

By becoming aware of these egoic agreements in our mind, we can unlock ALL the doorways to truly living a life, present in the NOW!

I am NOT my thoughts!

Yes, I know... I have heard it a million times! I have realized and witnessed its truth, yet, for some reason, in the past couple of days, I have really come to understand that I am NOT my thoughts! Pretty Cool!

Not only am I NOT my thoughts, but I control my thoughts. I have the choice to choose my thoughts! And with that, not only do I feel content, but curious to see what I can come up with. What kind of life am I gonna live NOW??? I bet it's gonna be a ride!!!

You know, I just think you a growing in your ability to remain present. Tolle teaches us to witness the ego take flight, because the more we become aware of it, the quicker we realize what is happening, and the quicker we can shut the whole chain of events off. We are creating a new chain of events, of which our goal is to make our chain of events a little smaller and of course, more enjoyable.

I may have misunderstood being present - The other day our daughter got up and out in an awful mood. After she left, my husband wanted to go off about it, I was keeping the negativity away, I was in the kitchen cleaning up and said - Be present, right now I am wiping the counter and putting the dishes in the dishwasher
But - in the Power of Now, Tolle talks about being the witness or the watcher of the pain body. Was I burying or denying the unpleasant moment or maybe I just didn't let my pain body become active!?!

AHA! Being mindful of what I'm doing when I'm doing it helps me to remember where I put my keys...so to speak. I can't tell you how much time I spend looking for things because I can't remember what I've done with them, usually because I'm thinking about something else while I'm doing it. Being in the moment pays off because I can actually remember placing my keys in my purse and I don't have to race frantically around my house looking for them!

Two very GREAT aha moments. That put a smile on my heart about the diamond. My mother-in-law lost the diamond in her engagement ring, and that's all I heard for 2 weeks. That woman is full of ego, but that is my ego saying that. She found hers, thank God in her case. See, we are all making huge progress! Just look at how far we have come. We may never be perfect, nor do I want to be... but all of this is definitely a step in the right direction!

That sounds like a great day, Emma!
One of my first Aha moments while reading A New Earth, was when I lost the center diamond out of my engagement ring. In the past, I would have absolutely freaked out, but it really didn't affect me. I realized that I didn't need the "identity enhancer" anymore. I still have my wedding band, to signify that I am married, but I took off the engagement ring (good thing I never had them soldered together), and put it away, and haven't given it a worried thought. In fact, I even found myself hoping that someone would find it who really needed it :-)
If you knew me before Tolle, you would realize what a big deal this is.. My other main Aha was that I lost the urge to shop for things I didn't need. What a relief!!

Those sound like great Aha! Moments Emma!

I had an Aha! Moment today! I can either worry myself sick of all the possible things that could happen to my husband, which by the way, any number of things could happen to him in our own continent which I don't worry about, or I can accept that he is in a different working environment, however, there are just as many risks as there was in Canada, and that I should just appreciate and enjoy everyday that we are alive to do it.

So, that doesn't mean I accept my husbands death before it happens... or does it? What I do mean at the present moment is that I just need to appreciate the days we do have, because ultimately, it could end at any given day at any given time, so why waist time worrying about.

I know it's only natural to worry about the unknown! But hearing my husbands voice today, and hearing how positive he was really helped me to put things into perspective! POSITIVE PERSPECTIVE! And that's what it is all about.

Honestly... I could waist my life worrying about my husband not ever coming back, and than die myself tomorrow!

Ack! What a thought! But there is truth behind this!

I had two Ah Has tonight. I got angry. I noticed that I got angry, I acknowledged that I had anger. I cannot remember what it was about. My the time I had acknowledged it. I was in the present and anger was gone. Whoo hoo.

2nd. I was walking to the laundry room and I was thinking that I'm still having trouble getting rid of my clothes. I automatically thought I am not my clothes. And then I realized I have been identifying with the stuff in my closet. OOOOOH that's why I never get around to getting rid of clothes I don't even like. mmm hmm. So now I've recognized it. Hopefully it will go away.

He didn't hurt himself. I've been suffering Dizziness for months and I am wondering if it is something in the house and if it is bothering him too. So I'm going to do the balance test I learned at the neurologist. (Feet together, eyes closed. arms out straight in front, how long does it take you to fall over) I get about 3 seconds some people would never tilt. I'm just wanting to make sure we don't have sick house syndrome.

There's the song lovely Day. Every time I see Sultry Day I hear it in my head with the words changed to SultryDay!

Not reacting is very tricky, And it turns down his expressions as well. I did respond to one thing this morning as he's "it's time to go!" when he hasn't shaved or dressed yet. I told him panicing will not make it go faster! I think it got in. It was sort of a reaction but it was very what he needed to hear. He was less frantic on the way over. He fell in the bathroom this a.m. Not enough to hurt himself BUT -- tonight i am going to do the balance test on him to make sure that there's not a problem there. If we are BOTH dizzy and off balance it is the house for sure! I was so good when he felt. I calmly went in to the bathroom. Put back up the shower rod. (He didn't have time to do it! he said, I don't listen to him always!) Then I got towels to dry the floor so he wouldn't fall and kill himself on the way out of the shower. I was like a calm helpful presence. No panic just peaceful do what's required and keep out of the way... I guess all this working on being a peaceful presence thing is actually sinking in...

I am so much like that too Emma.

When DH is not happy, expressing disagreements, or whatever - I take it personally - as if I am responsible for his EMOTIONS AND ACTIONS. Geez. Who taught me that.

After reading Chapter 7 - I do realize how I react to him - I am always on guard so to speak.

What an awakening that chapter was for me. Have I changed much. Maybe just a centimeter. Maybe another centimeter tomorrow. LIGHT!!!!

Morning!

Looking forward to a SPIRITUAL EVENT:
If we can remain the observer or the witness of this journey and the exerpiencer of the experiences than it is almost like WATCHING A GREAT EVENT - sitting on the edge of our seats anticipating what will happen next all the while accepting the present moment just as it is.

Emma - let us know what the EVENT is!!!

RunningSlow - I am so glad you have an idea on how to tackle this dieting issue and realized you are much more than a dieter. Let us know how it works.

I am bigger than my little self that is a dieter. When accept that I am bigger than this issue then I will be.

Realizing this last night during the class has made me feel so much better. I wasn't sure how I was going to tackle this issue but I think I do now!

Isn't it amazing the power a self-imposed label has. At least being aware of the label helps to shine some light on it.

It does not mean that we immediately let the label go, but as so many have said - one light at a time - or one step at a time.

Just be AWARE of the label.
Observe the feelings and thoughts that accompany the feeling.
Don't let the thoughts feed that old ego identity.

I need to take this advice myself! LOL

For years I labeled myself fat...and I was probably 30 lbs lighter than I am now. Weird but I don't think of myself as fat anymore. What's up with that?!

seems like it, however, in the last 2 months I have lost and gained the same 7 lbs over and over and over.......sigh

It's amazing the labels we can put on ourselves, as if the labels we get from other people weren't enough! I see from your ticker that you've lost over 19 pounds-- that sounds like success to me!!

I think that Tolle would say that you should just observe how you feel about what happened, let yourself feel the hurt or whatever other emotions that there are, while observing them and not being attached to them. Don't judge yourself. Those feelings aren't you, they're your pain body. I think that would be his "advice". Personally, I'd over analyze it, and commiserate with you! Maybe your dh has no sense of time, like mine. It can be totally infuriating! But definitely don't beat yourself up for still being mad/hurt or whatever. You're only human. And I'm sure that you do remember and appreciate all the good things, too.

Last night I wrote a story [in this spot] about DH and me in the beginning years of marriage. I am erasing the story today, and instead, writing what I learned from writing it and posting it.

I initially wrote the story to let Emmasmart know husbands are sometimes NON-THINKING.

What an AH-HA for me!!!

In retelling a story that happened over 30 years ago I could feel the same resentment and anger surface - not only surface, but I could feel its presence and hold on me under the surface that has been there for 30 years.

If we had not been studying Tolle's pain body I don't know if I would have recognized it for what it was.

Instead I think I would have continued to FEEL JUSTIFIED to have this undercurrent of resentment.

I would have felt somewhat SELF-RIGHTEOUS - therefore thinking I am better than my husband.

Courage to face the truth allows AWARENESS - allows LIGHT to shine.

The truth is - each of our [DH and mine] pain bodies clashed and clashed, our egos clashed and clashed especially in the first 5 years of marriage. I always tried to cover up the IMPERFECTION in our marriage to friends and family - as I thought to be seen as having troubles would bring other's JUDGMENT down on me. I was ashamed I had gotten into a marriage that was not perfect.

The truth is - we grew up somewhat over the years and learned to live together without the constant clashes. [Note - talk about giving your children a painbody.]

The AH-HA moment for me is that:
What I did by 'covering' it all up was bury the resentment and anger over and over and then every single incident until this moment 30 some years later that has happened and even remotely resembled SELF-SACRIFICING (also called victim mentality) just fed that identity and pain body.

In the weekly challenge - on Sunday - I wrote that I was aware of an 'on-guardedness' in me. I think this 'on-guardedness' is constantly on alert for something to feed this ego and pain body.

Today in word for today I wrote FORGIVENESS.

I hope and pray that all this personal sharing here helps someone else. I could have written this in my journal for no one to read - somewhat hiding it again.

COURAGE - AWARENESS - FORGIVENESS - WILLINGNESS - ACCEPTANCE

All powerful energy patterns as opposed to

SHAME - DESPAIR - ANGER - RESENTMENT - HATRED.

I don't really think that either men nor women are more awakened or present. Tolle seems to think (I forget which chapter) that women are, but while I think that may have been true a hundred or more years ago, I think that today it takes so much ego to try to be a "Superwoman" that women are just as "bad" as men. And while men don't seem to get upset about the same things that "we" get upset about, that doesn't mean that they are present! I mean, a person who was really present would do something about an alarm going off, not just go back into his own little world! I know that I thought my husband was more in the now than I was, until I realized that he lives in the future as much as I was living in the past! Neither are the Now.

Later today I have to go to the dentist. I hate going to the dentist. My pain body hates it. So the last time I went, I observed, what is really so terrible about it?? Well, it's all the noise, even more than the needle. Helicopter noises, hurricane noises, chainsaw massacre noises (ok, maybe that's an exaggeration!) I think I need headphones! Aha!

Or have you ever driven someplace, especially a place you go to all the time, and don't remember driving there? You were so lost in your thoughts, you weren't aware of driving to whereever it was you ended up at. Now that's scary and I bet that is what causes alot of accidents too. I've been trying to think of this everytime I get in the car. To awaken enough to drive! LOL

That's funny! And yah... I have been paying attention to my reactions when I drive... and it's amazing how much one does react! Unreal really. I told my husband to pay attention to it too... that is where he is weak as well. But it's sooooo friggin' hard when people cut you off, or are completely oblivious to what's going on around them. I can see what Tolle means when he speaks of people who have very dense Pain Bodies can attract more accidents. It's because they are so lost in their own little world. Not present at all, of what's going on around them. So true! That's friggin scary.

I too, like Emma, have been trying to drive with more awareness... yet, I find it almost scary at times, because I get so caught up in what I am doing in the now, that I realize what I am really doing in the now. Does that makes sense???? LOL! Okay... driving along, looking around, being aware of everything that surrounds me, than what to keep looking, because I find it beautiful, and than, OMG, I am driving.... lol! NOT GOOD!
