Going to take a deep breath to center myself every time I sit down. That way every time I sit down to eat or work, I'll be more present.

Back to yoga! Did it five times in the past week. Finding myself NEEDING to do it. So glad it's becoming a habit.

Can't do yoga at the moment, because I recently had surgery, but did it prior to my surgery after posting this. Not doing such a great job of sitting down and setting aside time to meditate, but making moments throughout my day into meditations - walking meditation, meditating while doing dishes, etc.

Going to practice what I preach and do yoga and/or meditate every day. I know how much more present I am when I do.

I love having words for the various parts of consciousness: Obedient child, super-ego, punitive parent, etc. In my personal lingo, the ego moderates among these. I think what cultures are sometimes calling ego is the part of NOW consciousness that remembers mainly the punitive parent or obedient child. With my children, I consciously worked to introduce them to understanding, with only two emergency signals that I said should simply be obeyed up-front, as gathering/evacuating signals, and ask questions later.

I know that as I get my NOW consciousness away from the scriptures as I have been taught them, that I can read "scriptures" (various philosophies, and even some psychology and logic theories) with such fresh eyes that I dis-believe enough to think better on the issues.

My Bible Study group has been unimpressed with some of my insights until recently one was vindicated with deeper study. It is about hell--one of those mis-taught ideas from the culture of the words being not understood. I still am waiting for them to accept that abortion, before blood forms in the baby's body, is not murder.

So, I understand Awakening, and letting life energies be in synergy, regardless of the nonsense that someone is trying to discipline me into. It takes decades of living to gain perspectives, to re-align parameters, to figure out which parameters overlap and which won't. My ego tends to want to stop and "enjoy" my gains--pride I's better to gain the understanding of each day's inputs.

I'm working on staying present when I'm eating, and being conscious of my breathing and posture. I'm back to work, and those are things that tend to be what I slack on when I get busy.

Weird, but I don't remember this meltdown. They are getting fewer and farther between.

Working now on breathing throughout my day. For instance, when I'm walking down the halls at work, I am consciously taking deeper breaths and straightening my posture.

I am working on my communication skills. Holding things in is taking its toll on my body, and I need to calmly speak my mind BEFORE I get to the point when I feel my blood pressure rise. Had a bit of a meltdown last night, and then woke with a headache this morning. Both could have been avoided if I'd just let it out when it first started bothering me.

DISENGAGING!

Operation Disengage is not quite yet complete, although I did have a chance to pretty much tell her how I felt at Christmas, on my Birthday (of which, in 7 years, they have NEVER wished me a Happy Birthday, and the toys are never good enough), and put things straight! Not my intentions, but how, I guess, it all needed to work out!!! I won't go into the details of what I said to her, but basically this was it!

I love you, however, I am DONE playing these games, done feeling guilty, we are done working our asses off, only to never be appreciated, DONE!

There was more to it than that, and I sounded serious, but with quite a bit more compassion!

No one there underminded me either! So, that was a good feeling, and she changed her tune abit... took her a little bit... I don't blame her! Took me a bit to settle down too... I was vibrating I was shaking so bad after!!! You should have seen me COLOR! LOL! Never colored so quick in my life... lol!

I just realized today, that two years ago when my husband told me he cheated on me, I started a cycle of not loving myself because I felt unloved. I started filling my body with crap and stopped exercising. As a result, I feel awful...as bad physically as I have emotionally over the last two and a half years. Last summer, I finally moved out and got my own apartment and was finally getting my life a bit back on track although I still wasn't happy...I didn't like my job (had to stop being a stay-at-home-mom), still broken from marriage, etc. In October, I lost my job. I've gained 10 lbs since then. I still haven't started "moving."

Things I have done:
1. decided to go back to school full-time in the spring
2. decided to try to learn to trust my husband again...he is trying to earn my trust back and that is a bit healing

However, I am still feeling yucky. So...I need to make some CHALLENGES for my "self."

1. Log my food again.
2. Walk 3 days a week after I drop kids at school.
3. Start reading about healthy eating again.
4. Post here once a day.

It seems small even to me but it has been so long since I have taken care of myself.

Miss you guys. :)

So, where am I on the disengaging front? Better! Much better!

I actually, over the past 3 and 1/2 months, since this all began, have truly been able to let a lot of, I suppose one could call them, delusional expectations as to where I see my blended family, GO!

I have realized that I truly do love my step-children and care immensely for their well being, but was sacrificing my own joy and happiness for what I thought was in the better of their interest, which, I now see, has ultimately backfired on me, because it wasn't working, and well, I became truly unknowingly, at the time, very ANGRY and very resentful!

Since all of this stuff recently, I have truly been able to let a lot of that anger go, and am truly focused on enjoying my present moment with my children of my womb, and husband, without feeling soooo much guilt about my step-children! That was not fair to anyone, and they had no idea I was feeling it... so who was I doing any good.

Created a bad cycle... and I could go on and on... but I won't!

But, we still haven't had an oppurtunity to truly sit with them and discuss things thouroughly about why things are the way they are, our roles, where we stand, and where we plan to go... but we are MUCH CLOSER!

Hubby and I have had a lot of heart to hearts, and are communicating much better!

Yay!

Still working on disengaging! Is it going well? Not sure... perhaps a bit in the wrong direction in all aspects of my marriage... but, steps that were needed to be taken to truly see things for what they are!

My husband is afraid to lose his daughter, and has only just become aware that that fear, to face his daughter with the truth, is what is creating the distance between them!

NOBODY KNOWS WHERE THEY STAND IN OUR BLENDED FAMILY! And I am sooo tired of it!

We haven't had an oppurtunity to sit down with her yet... I am still learning, and he is still absorbing and shuffling through his own feelings! He recently said that I tell him how he feels... that he doesn't get to think for himself. Well... thanks husband for now admiting that you believe I am manipulating you! NICE! When all I am trying to do is talk, communicate, bring different ideas, perspectives and approaches to this f'd up family situation... what the hell are you doing? besides barrying your head and always just wanting to walk away!

So... disengaging is playing some havoc... but once we can face this situation head on... lay out all the 'roles' that we are playing, then we will all know what is to be expected of us, which hopefully will minimize resentments!

And that truly was just a tiny vent! Oh woe is me!

Awww! Thanks, Ducky!

Some days are better than others when it comes to my breathing and posture. I still have days when I am hunched over, but now have more days when I'm mindfull. I am going to keep working on this.

Doing much better at eating mindfully. My new (old) challenge is to work on my posture and breathing. I keep finding myself all hunched over when I'm sitting at both of my desks. I'm hopeful more consistent yoga will help, but plan to take a deep breath each time I sit down to work. Then I'll do periodic checks to make sure my shoulders are down, away from my ears.

EXCUSES BEGONE!?

Well... I am happy I did this challenge! I have really brought to light when an excuse enters my thought processes... and I have even helped my husband to see more clearly now too! WOOHOO!

Although... I still make excuses, it's human... I catch myself and choose healthy excuses mostly!

NEW CHALLENGE
_____________________________

To learn to truly disengage, without guilt, from my husbands children and the problems that come with it, including the parenting! Although I have always been very low in the disciplining with my step-children, I realize now, that it's time for my husband to step up to the plate and be a dad who PARENTS his kids. I understand why we have gotten to where we are... although we obviously weren't able to control the variables, I know where we can work on to improve our blended family situation!

I have tried to disengage before and have throughout our marriage, only to be made to feel guilty by my husband, understandably, and by the step-kids... but I have recently learnt that my past efforts were actually a good thing... and now that my husband knows that, I can do it guilt free.

Have to continue working on my breath. Realized lately that I tend to hold my breath when I'm excited, too. I always knew it was a challenge in times of stress, but I've been overwhelmed by the good things that are happening lately. So...my goal for the next week or two is to remain present AND conscious of my breath.

Practicing gratitude is a habit again, and no longer a challenge, so I'm going to work on my posture and breathing....again. Yesterday, despite the fact that it was a sunny Saturday, I felt a little tense. I couldn't figure out what my problem was until I realized I was all hunched over. Once I stood up straight, dropped my shoulders down, and took a deep breath, I felt instantly better. A simple thing really, but something I have to make a conscious effort to do sometimes.

Did NOT reach my goal of reading Tolle each night. I had a lot of nervous energy to burn off, and was either working, moving or sleeping the last few weeks. Yesterday, I realized I hadn't been practicing gratitude - I was wrapped up in my pain. My my new goal is to reflect on the things I'm grateful for daily, and post them at least 5 days a week.

It sure does help!

I use to have:

Read ANY Tolle book & meditate for at least 15 minutes 1 time per day

as a team goal, but replaced it with:

Be STILL and reflect on your PRESENCE Level 15 minutes 1 time per day

You should add it, and then you can track when you are actively bringing yourself to the present!

I know it doesn't specifically say read Tolle, but one doesn't 'always' have to read Tolle to be still and become aware of our presence level! Although I know, like you said, that it does do wonders! But, this way, if you happen to not pick up Tolle, but you took the time to have a bath, or play your guitar... you are still reaching your goals! I dunno! What do you think?

Maybe I shouldn't have taken it away!

That's great, Ducky!

I'm doing well with my goal. I've been quite focused while working at my desks this week, and I appreciate that. I think I'm going to continue to with this one indefinitely, always working on it in addition to whatever else I'm working on.

Starting today, and continuing through next week, my goal is to read Tolle each evening, even if it's only for a few minutes. I had some negative thoughts swimming in my head last night - already worried about the icy roads I'd have to drive on this morning, meetings I was supposed to have at work today, and something my daughter is going through. Nothing too big individually, but overwhelming all at once. I know a big part of it is hormones, but I really struggled to get back to the present. I didn't give up, but can't say I was successful. I think I would have had a better chance if I had picked up the book. The words have a way of instantly calming me. The only plus side to my little mental battle was that I used some of the nervous energy to get moving. I woke to a really clean house, and was then able to spend my ice day however I wanted. Which meant a nap, of course!

I'm feeling much better today, since I didn't have to drive much on the icy roads, and my staffings were cancelled. They've already been rescheduled, the paperwork is done, and I can mentally put them aside until the beginning of next month.

Well... I have to say that I am loving this challenge! It is really allowing me to look at things a little bit differently! And, it is also allowing me to see more goals I want to achieve! When doing my New Motivational Plan Challenge, I looked at it from the perspective of what excuses am I giving myself right now NOT to do the things I want, and am now going to work on them!

This week I'm back to taking a deep breath before I sit down at either of my desks - home and work. I need work on my focus.

It is pretty darn cool! And I agree!

P.S. I ordered The 4 Agreements today on Amazon! I have Excuses Begone in my wish list... although, I remember seeing it at Walmart! May pick it up there!

You know what is really wonderful about what you are saying here is that even a book that you haven't read - but just know the title and have some knowledge of its contents - is making you more aware. Isn't that an awesome thought? It is as if you just have to be still and the wisdom, or the knowledge is there for you. Which, by the way, Dyer and Deepak Chopra, and Tolle, I am sure would agree that this is the benefit to being still and living in the now - or being at one with your Creator.

Living my life with GOOD INTENTIONS!

As great as this concept is, I found myself getting paranoid about my actions... perhaps a little to focused on this! I am going to continue to work on this, but at not such an aware state... I think that may be more beneficial, for me anyways, on this topic... lol!

NEW CHALLENGE
_____________________________

Excuses Begone!

Inspired by Joann and of course Wayne Dyer!

I haven't read the book yet, but the title pretty much sums it up! Anytime I hear myself convincing myself to NOT do something, I am going to conquer that voice and squash it! For instance, Friday night, I was tired, spent maybe more time on SP than is healthy... lol... and convinced myself that I could go to bed without pre-planning my meals for the next day! Well guess what... I ate more than my allowance, and not in the healthiest way either... not that I was horrible, but it defintiely was one of my not so successful days in that department! So... the next time I hear myself making up excuses for why I shouldn't do what I have set out to do, or to reach my goals, I will remember this, and squash those self-defeating excuses!!!

I have a long list of things to do and they will get done eventually. I'm not worried! I'm letting it go for now! Instead, I will focus on being with DD#2 this week. It is her last week home before she returns to college. I plan to simply enjoy being with her and let the things on my todo list fall where they may! I do plan to use my timer and 15 minutes to get some of that done. But, I'm not stressing it.

Well done, Ducky!

I did what I set out to do over this break - recharge, declutter, organize. Now that I'm going back to work tomorrow, my goal is to focus on my breath and posture again. It's the best way I know to stay present when work gets hectic. I CAN be busy without being crazy busy!

LETTING GO!

Well, I wouldn't say I forgot what I was working on this last while! I have been quite active with it actually! Any time ANYTHING tried to pop into my mind I would become aware, listen, see if it was worth holding, or give it a gently nudge into the not worth my time or energy pile, and move on! It's allowed me to reflect in a more positive way! Making me aware of what I am proud of, what may need a little more attention and awareness, the end! No berating myself! Actually letting go! Some may resurface from time to time, I suppose that is only natural! But, it's the simply remembering to bring ourselves back to the present that is going to keep it in the past where it belongs!

INTENTIONS!

I am going to focus my time and energy on my intentions! On what I intend to happen! And, accepting responsibility for my actions, even if it wasn't what I wanted to happen, but recognizing what I have done, perhaps as a whole, on how I may have contributed to the end result, be it good - which was probably down with alert presence in the NOW, or a bad result - which was probably done in a state of Forgetfulness of Being! And, go from there!

Only two more days until my break, and my list of things I want to accomplish when I'm off is getting pretty long. My goal is to use my timer during my break, so I don't waste it spinning in circles. I have to fight an urgency to get it all done right NOW, and I want to avoid that this year. Not only that, my goal is to enjoy myself, to be thankful for the me-time, and to accept anything I may not finish.

Okay, I'll stop thinking of Sunday as the "start" in a past sense. LOL I guess I subconciously think of that as the beginning of the week/start day. But, you are right, it really is only figurative and any present day is a good day to start anything! Starting NOW!

Hey Karbie, I have been having a hard time staying on top of my budget lately, ok, this year period. I think I need to focus my awareness on this as well! Breath..............................

I suppose spending an entire morning, free of children, on the computer as opposed to working on the company and personal books could be one reason... lol!

Hey TSOAVE,

I am just catching up again, and I am not sure how familiar you are with the way of FlyLady, but I strongly suggest setting a timer for 15 minutes, and focusing in on what you need to get done. If after 15 minutes you feel accomplished, stop. If you feel you can go another 15 minutes, go for it! A timer does truly help take away the anxiety of getting things done!

DIGGIN' DEEP WITH AWARENESS AND RECOGNITION FOCUSED ON ANXIETY!!!

Again, I forgot what I was working on, and again, I am just amazed to see that I have been working on it. I posted my last Awareness Challenge at the end of March, which is roughly when life started to get tough for me. I am going to repost my last challenge completely, so that any of you who are reading this, understand.
_____________________________
_____________________________

Anxiety... through the eyes of Hays and Tolle!

Today's Positive Affirmation is:

I love and approve of myself and I trust the process of life. I am safe.

This is for Anxiety! She says the probably cause is not trusting the flow and the process of life.

So, if I can take that and convert it to understand and preceive it as Tolle does, if I can, it would mean the following.

Anxiety! The incessant thinking, of old conditioned mind patterns, wrapped with fear, inferiority, worry, and probably guilt. The inability to stay present. The inability to remain in the NOW! To be consumed of Ego! Unaware that to be Free of Ego, in that moment, is to come to reality and Just Be!

So, if above said is true... I should be able to snap out of the feelings and emotions of anxiety. The effects that it has, not only of my mind, but of my body too.

NOT SO EASY! Because ultimately, you have to dig a little deeper then just the surface to truly become aware of what IT is that is bothering you.

However, I am going to focuse my attention on this for the next little while. Infact, it will be my Weekly Awareness Challenge in team Awakening! Perhaps each time I truly RECOGNIZE my anxiety, I can chip away at what is TRULY BOTHERING ME!
_____________________________
_____________________________

So, that was written in March, and it took until roughly October/November to reach the core of a lot of what was bothering me. I truly do need to trust the process of life, and that everything is in divine timing.

I am still working on this, but it doesn't need to be at the top of my awareness level! I think I am ready to tackle something else! Friggin Yayyyyyy to that!

NEW CHALLENGE
_____________________________

Letting Go!

Now that I have become aware of so many of the things that were truly eating me up inside, I need to re-focus on letting go! Letting go of the pain, the hurt, the anger, the frustration, the guilt! I will no longer be a host to such destructive thought patterns!

I've got my fly swatter out, and I am going to crush any bug that tries to plant itself in my brain!

Come on flies... just try! LOL! I dare yah!

Several family "events" have me WAY behind in my holiday preparations. Everytime I look at the list and see what needs to be done, I fairly panic! So, this week, I will take a lesson from Karbie. I will focus on breathing before I even look at that list. I will remain in the present with regards to what I can do, and not worry about tomorrows tasks today!

This week, besides taking a deep breath before sitting down to work at my desk at work, I will take a deep breath before sitting down at my desk at home. I made a couple of errors while working on my budget last week that could have been disastrous. I caught them in time, but had to struggle to fix them. I simply need to be more present.

Another Sunday missed! I have a very hard time falling asleep when I go to bed. (No problem watching TV or reading in the living room!) So, this week, I will concentrate on MY breathing as I relax in my bed. No more thinking about the million things I should be writing down for the next day!

Due to changes the state has made on the way we do our special ed. paperwork, work has been very stressful lately. This week I'm going back to taking a deep breath (or two!) right before I sit at my desk to work.

Did much better with the mindful eating this past week. I'm just not consistent yet. It totally depends on my level of presence. When I'm in the moment, I do everything more mindfully - including eating. So I guess this week's challenge for me is to work on staying present more consistently. I must be slacking a little.

Piece of cake! (LOL)

This week, I'm going to work on eating mindfully. I usually choose the right foods, but eat them so quickly sometimes that I don't taste them. I've been having some indigestion this week, and think most of it is from gobbling my food.

You are doing great! I like the idea of taking a breath before sitting down to work. I might borrow that. I did better with being more aware than usual, but I still need to improve.
My challenge to myself this week is to meditate 10 minutes every day.

I did do yoga or meditate most days. I felt it was very calming at the time, but didn't quite do enough for me the following work day. This week, I'm going back to taking a breath before I sit down to work at my desk. Obviously, it's not enough of a habit yet, as I had a couple of very tricky days last week.

My last two challenges have been quite successful. This week I am challenging myself to do yoga or meditate every day.

Thanks Roz! I haven't always handled my stress very well, and I have to be persistent so I don't fall back into my old patterns (not as often, anyway, or to the same degree).

Good luck with your challenge - let us know how it goes!

WOW !! Karen, I am so impressed with your determination and persistence. I have been feeling a little overwhelmed lately...catching up on reading, keeping everything going and all balls up in the air. My plan is to have a time allowence for each task that I need to do. This way I will not have time slipping away on me. I need to be more present.

Roz.

Thanks for joining me, Miranda! Sounds like you are on the right track.

My plan for this week is to start every day with a positive affirmation. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi there...thought I would join in!

My goal for this week is to stay present at work. We have a new employee and he really activates my pain body. Now that I know that it should be easier to remain present, right?

Deep breathing will be most helpful this coming week.

This week I will continue with the same goal. I'm still not consistent. It's been very helpful when I remember to do it, but I need to make an effort to remember.

As I mentioned in my last post, this week I will take a deep breath before I sit down to work at my desk.

Tolle says that every deep breath is a meditation. I find great peace in that. So, my plan for the next couple weeks is to take a deep breath every time I sit down at my desk. Whether it is to pay my bills, or plan my lessons, I will be more focused.

I get a little anxious every year at this time about starting a new school year. This week (and probably next) I will work on my breathing. When I feel anxious I will breathe into it, and then silently say a positive affirmation.

I've used my planner, and have enjoyed more calm this week. That's why I'm sitting at the computer typing this while my husband is still trying to get ready for our weekend away!

I'm going to stick with this goal for a while. I need to stay in the habit of using my time wisely, so I can enjoy the moments when I don't have to accomplish something. Relaxation has been a problem for me in the past, but I'm working on it.

Sounds like a good way to approach it Diane, and I'm glad you've had some laughs. Unless you're Eckhart Tolle, staying present takes real effort sometimes. I think we're fortunate to be open to such ideas, and that just making the effort to accept makes us much better off than we would have been otherwise.

Thanks for sharing,
Karen

Hello Karbie, to be honest being present is evah so difficult indeed. Instead, I have tried to practice acceptance of every moment and had enjoyed many laughs this week at how I would have reacted/rejected life and times otherwise.

Good luck with your challange this week Karbie.
