Have fun at the fair Kim! emoticon

Didn't make Jazzercise or Bootcamp yesterday. Strained my back lifting a couple of heavy patients at work so went for a Massage and did some stretching instead.

Gonna try Flirty Girl Fitness tonight for the first time. My contract with the gym I go to didn't include these classes but now it does so I want to try it out. I may go to Jazzercise before FG if I get out of work in time.

Have a great day everyone!

Going to go and make copies for the first 3-4 weeks of school this morning, then wil head to the 3:15 Jazzercise.

It has taken me almost 2 weeks to work off all the water weight I had put on with the NSAIDs, but I am so glad to start seeing these lower numbers again.

Will do some walking this evening. Hubby and I are going to the county fair and I am super excited.

Hope you all have a good start to your weekend!

Sorry for missing as well. I have been a bit stressed out and busy and while I know working out would help, I just was not up to. Have not gone since Friday, but I am going to hit a class shortly here. Sorry to hear about your foot Kim, but is sounds like you are getting it under control. Have a great day everyone, will try my best to check back in tonight.

I'm glad your routine is helping with the pain, Kim. It takes time and commitment to heal but it sounds like you are on the right track.

I'm in a Jazzercise funk right now. I took all last week off and was supposed to go back tonight but didn't. That's really unusual for me so I made a plan to meet a friend there tomorrow am so I'm more likely to go.

I think part of my frustration is I'm Jazzercising my butt off but my butt's not coming off. emoticon People keep telling my I need to change things up because your body get's used to the same exercise but I've always felt that Jazzercise changes all the time...it's not the same thing over and over. It's has built in change. Yet I'm stuck weight wise so I'm gonna change to 3 or 4 times a week for Jazzercise then BC 1-2 x week with Pilates 2x week. If I can swing it financially I may add a 1/2 training session 1x week at least for a month or 2. Still thinking about that. Sorry to whine. I just feel stuck.

He has me icing 4 times a day, taking ibeprofun 3 times a day, stretching before getting out of bed and through out the day, and I bought inserts for my tennis shoes. He told me I had a knot about the size of a gumball in my foot. The knot is starting to work itself out and the ligament is getting looser each day.

I have to admit, I went to jazzercise today. It is hard to stay away. I thought that I would alternate between jazzercise and some water aerobics for the next few weeks. At jazzercise I made sure to stretch before, not do any high impact moves that caused pain, and stretched afterward. I also came home and iced my foot and that seemed to help. I may just have to stick with that type of routine when doing jazzercise.

About a week and I go back to the doctor. Still having pain throughout the day, but it doesn't seem quite as bad.

Hope you all are having a good weekend.

By the way, Orthoheel is having a 25% off sale on some of their sandals right now so I'll repost their link. Still a little pricey but well worth the pain relief. I haven't been able to find them for less in the past year.

Glad to see you back Kim!

The Strassburg sock is another contraption that's supposed to help with the pain. Same principle as that 'moon boot' but a little softer.

I thought about making my own 'cuz it doesn't look that difficult but never got around to it. Had the pain persisted I might have done it but I can barely sleep with regular socks on in the winter. I always kick them off in the night.

www.thesock.com/

A good stiff boot would also work or any other shoe that would place your foot and ankle at 90 degrees.

Hello everyone! Sorry I've been MIA. I've been busy but have been n track with workouts! My workout buddy is on vacation so I've had to double up so that we get our bags. She comes back on Sunday so I think we'll get them on Monday.

I didn't quit jazzercise when diagnosed either. But my doctor didn't tell me to quit if I felt I could do it. I put heel cushions in my shoes and I also sleep in these HUGE moonboot type contraptions that stretch the foot while you are sleeping. Get ready because you are going to laugh when you see this!

http://www.orthoticsandbeyond.com/p-12-o
cs-orthopro-passive-night-splint.aspx

It really works although sometimes I do kick them off. But insurance paid for it I had to try it. The idea is that it keeps your feet at a 90 degree angle while you are sleeping because otherwise your foot tends to relax while you sleep. That is why it is so painful when you walk first thing in the morning. Since wearing these to bed I don't have that morning pain anymore. But they are ugly and a little weird to sleep in. :)

Thanks so much for the tips on the shoes and sandals! Now I know what will be on the top of my wish list!

Kim....I know someone at our center put their membership on hold but I'm not sure what the circumstances were. Hopefully your center owner will work with you on this.

I was supposed to lay off the Jazzercise but didn't. I was a bad patient emoticon

I did stop walking or running on pavement or concrete as this really seemed to aggravate the pain plus I did get super supportive athletic shoes and wore the Orthoheels religiously at home. And I stretched.

The athletic shoe I got fitted for was the Brooks Adrenaline. When I first saw it all I could think of was 'Herman Munster must wear these shoes." They're not the most atttractive things but they do their job. www.brooksrunning.com/Addiction-9/12

As for other aerobic exercises an exercise bike, rowing machine or regular bike will work if you have access to either. Swimming is also good. You might think about this as a time to focus more on the ST which will build your muscles and up your metabolic fire.

Hang in there!

Podistrist confirmed that it is plantar faciitis. Have to stretch in the morning, ice 4 times a day, not walk barefoot, got new insoles, and suppose to rest. I thought I would be able to do jazzercise low impact, but didn't realize how hard it is on the feet. Today was one of the few days I noticed that my foot hurt during Jazzercise.

Doctor said I should probably lay off, atleast 2 weeks until we meet again. I am so sad I won't be able to jazzercise. :o(

Any suggestions on some aerobic activities I could still do so my weight loss will continue in the correct direction? Does anyone know if Jazzercise allows you do a medical hold on the membership?

Thank you all so much for your support! Hopefully I'll get some more answers when I see the podiatrist tomorrow. I'm definately for the more holistic method of treating it--stretching, being fitted for proper shoes, ect. I am a person who does not like taking medications unless I have too.

The biggest challenge for me will probably be finding some nice, supportive dress shoes for work. I started feeling the pain about 6 months into the school year with being on my feet all the time. I am preparing myself for the doctor telling me I'll have to get rid of my flats, but I hope I can find some nice supportive dress shoes.

I haven't been told to stop jazzercising, so I went to 2 classes today. The first class I did not get a very good sweat from. The instructor did a lot of really low impact movements. So, this evening I went back for a second class and definately got my workout then!

I'll let you all know what I find out at the doctor. Thanks so much for all the advice and support!

You all are AMAZING! emoticon

Rest day Saturday but I did go to a nutrition class at my gym.
Jazzercised this afternoon.

Kim...I also got PF last year about 1 month into Jazzercise. I got up one morning and could not put weight on my right foot for about 15 minutes.

I've made some changes which have helped a lot. I got fitted for athletic shoes at a shoe store that runners frequent. They usually are very good at fitting people with the correct shoes. I had to get a stability shoe from Brooks but it works wonders. I wear them for work (hospital) and for exercise. They not only helped my foot pain but also improved my back pain.

At home I would go barefoot or wear flip flops but had to give them up for these that were also recommended at the running store:
www.orthaheelusa.com/women.html

I initially balked at the price but really it has made such a difference and I can still exercise and function. They do have sales online so I usually wait for those.

Let us know what the podiatrist says. There are stretches and other things you can do to prevent or alleviate the pain.

This is normally a rest day for me, but since I was out of town so long, I went to the morning class. Now it is off to visit with some friends, then a Costco run (which I wish I could put off to a non week-end day, but I really can't) and tonight I am going to watch a friend in her first belly-dance performance! Have a great Saturday everyone!

Got in a class this morning and then took the dog for walk - 2 1/2 miles through some great local trails.

BlueJayKim - hope it feels better soon. I was diagnosed with plantar fascitus on my right foot a couple of years ago. It was so painful! My podiatrist referred me to a shoe store that specializes in foot issues (they only sell shoes, inserts and custom orthodics and everyone there is trained on foot issues). After a couple of hours of testing, I was finally fitted with some amazing shoes with custom inserts. Between them, the stretches I was taught, giving up going barefoot on my hardware floors and giving up my much loved flat type flip flops, I have managed it really well. There are still some days, but I am hoping that as I lose weight, it will help. Best of luck to you!

Did body sculpting last night and will do a Jazzercise class today. Last night we did body sculpting on with the balls and my core is SO SORE this morning! Last night my butt hurt so bad I had to put icy-hot on it... that was awkward (but felt good).

The doctor is pretty sure it is plantar fascitus, but is sending me to a podiatrist to make sure. Possibility it could also be a bone spur. I see him (hopefully) this coming Tuesday.

Hello all!

Kim, I wonder if it is plantar fascitus? That is what I have. It is caused by the lessening of the arch of your foot (age and weight related) and in my case it feels like pins are sticking in my heels and it is very painful to walk when I wake up in the morning or after sitting for an extended amount of time. If that is what he diagnoses - ask for cortisone shots. They hurt a little but it helps relieve the pain.

No jazz in the last two days for me! I really think my body needed a little rest. I will be back at it tomorrow!

1 Jazzercise class this evening. It has been about 15 degrees cooler and much less humid, and I think it made working out a little easier.

Going to the doctor in the morning to have a checkup and have him look at my left foot. It has been hurting pretty badly right above the heel in my arch area and swollen. Hopefully this won't mean putting a hold on exercise.

Yea, I am back. Hit a morning class today after no classes for 12 days (vacation). Before we left I did look to see if there would be any classes where we would be but only one place had classes and it was not within walking distance. When we were on shore (we were on a sailboat) I did walk a lot and we spent 3 days at the pool. I gained a bit, but overall happy with the results. Hope to hit my next goal by the end of next week!

I think as long as the classes are free they can keep going but I guess it's best to check with your center.

I know at our center, they say if the guest signs up right after the first class, then they get a special discount. I suspect if someone wanted to go a few times before they commit, the center would let them have the special anyway.

Did a regular followed by the express. Was going to ask about the ball but the instructor was busy.

I looked up some information but I really think if you sit on the ball with the positioning mentioned below, that is your best bet. I know when they recently re-inflated our balls, they were all too big. Once some air was let out, it helped.

The color of the ball is just going to depend on the manufacturer.
Here's what the Gaiam site says about their ball size:
"the pink 55-centimeter ball is suitable for users measuring 5' 0" and 5' 5" in height, green 65-centimeter ball for those from 5' 5" and 5' 11" and purple 75-centimeter ball is suitable for those from 6' 0" to 6' 3" in height."

About.com had these recommendations:

55 cm - 4'11" - 5'4"
65 cm - 5'5" - 5'11"
75 cm - 6'0" - 6' 7"

Kim...we have blue balls...I can't believe I just typed that emoticon emoticon
Ours have udders so they don't roll away when you put them aside but they are definitely different sizes.

I'm 5'2" so I need a smaller ball. When you sit on the ball, your hips, knees and ankles should each be at or near a 90 degree angle . Or your knees should be even with your hips or a little lower but not too much.

If the ball is too tall for me then my knees are way below my hips, instead of even with them, and it makes it harder to stay on the ball.

Brandyn, Back up the truck!!! You mean there are different size balls? I had no idea! I am going to ask about that the next time I go. I usually use the red ball. What size is that? Thanks for the tip about putting the ball on the mat. I already do that but I didn't know it was to keep the ball from slipping. I just did it because everyone else does it. I thought it was because of space - ha ha! The express class is a 30 minute class that is done without the mats. So it is mostly all cardio and the part that you normally do with the mat and weights is done while standing - just not as many songs. Really, if you are just staying for an extra cardio you've got it! :)

Kim, are you referring to that floor leg routine where you make the circles with your legs? I hear you sister! I first thought it was easily doable but after the multiple reps it is hard. Good for you for taking a nap. I just woke up from one myself!

Oh yeah, this morning I did a regular session at 7am. :)

Enjoy what is left of your weekend!

Hey ladies! My double session went well! The lady who taught aerobics kicked my butt!!! It was the first time I had her for regular Jazzercise. We did a killer floor leg routine that I DEFINATELY feel this morning. Body scultping afterwards was great. I haven't had a body scuplting class yet that uses the balls. I LOVE body sculpting because it really makes me feel strong. However, I did have to take a nap yesterday, lol.

No Jazzercise for me today. I'm thinking a walk or hike today instead.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

I joined a small gym in March after I bought their groupon special for their bootcamp. It's mostly women and run by a woman who is really good. I'm really loving the Pilates and it's a nice addition to Jazzercise.

We don't have express at our center. Is it just the aerobics section? When I do a double I usually do the whole first class but only the aerobic section of the second class so I guess that could be an express. emoticon

Kim....you probably already know this but if you measure the ball for your height and follow the what the instructor recommends it's very unlikely that you'll fall off. You could also try putting a yoga mat under the ball to help it stay in place.

I used a ball that was too big for me yesterday and I still didn't fall off emoticon emoticon

Did the earlybird regular class this morning.

Kim, how did you like the double session? I like the regular followed by an express the best. I really like the body sculpting but have a really hard time on the ball. It stinks because I let that short time period to sway me from going to an otherwise enjoyable class. My fault! I need to work on that. I always think the ball is going to fly out from under me!

Brandyn, Do you belong to a gym that offers all those classes? You are on fire!

That's great Kim! It really does help to have a buddy.

My co-worker had to cancel tonight but she was really bummed about it. Hoping she'll be able to go next week.

I went to only 1 class tonight. Still having problems with my left ankle so I couldn't jump, twist, pivot, turn quickly or releve'...pretty much walked through the routines but at least I burned a few calories. emoticon

Body sculpting yesterday and Jazzercise today! Made a new friend at Jazzercise this evening and I think we're going to start attending classes together on a regular basis!

Going tonight for 1, maybe 2 classes. I'm meeting someone from work who is going for Free Fridays in July. She's a newbie so if she likes it she said she'll sign up.

Did 45 minutes of body sculpting class because I got there late. Stayed for the express class as well.
