I reached my weight goal today. It seems such a short time from the time I joined this team.

I bought new swimsuits for a vacation in the warm weather, it seems so great to be able to fit into a smaller size. I feel great!emoticon

I started out last March with gusto and managed to lose over 80 pounds. By the time summer was here I kept getting stuck on plateaus but I didn't give up. I lost hardly anything last fall but I perservered until Halloween. That's when I began to trip up and by Thanksgiving I was falling off track alot. Then I got really sick. That was my complete undoing. I've regained 7 pounds!
I got up this morning determined to begin my journey all over again.
The first thing I have to do is to be honest with myself and reset my weight tracker.
Here goes!

Unfortunately, I don't really know how to help you on this one (the standing next to you part that is). Are there any other stay at home moms around, perhaps they would like to come over and workout with you. You might want to check with a couple of your kids play-date moms. Rather than joining a gym again, why not try yoga or maybe karate, while your children are gone, just something different than staying in the house to workout.

Please don't think I am trying to preach to you, I know how you feel, I've tried to get co-workers to team up with me - it's not easy - everyone is motivated differently. I am not a stay at home mom anymore, but I was once, and there was a gym that I went to that offered free membership if you worked in the day care. I was even able to bring my son with me at the time. Just being in the gym gave me the incentive to workout and I was able to make a couple of friends with the other moms there.

If you look at my Sparkpage you will see that I have not been at this very long, and I have a long way to go to get to where I want to be. Posting and blogging are my outside contacts, my support. I hope these ideas help and that you will keep me posted. Good luck Diamondst.

Oh and by the way, I hate the gym!!!emoticon

As I said in my Sparkpage, I have all the equipment needed here at home, I'm done paying an over priced gym facility to use the equipment I already own. I don't need a room full of people, but a buddy to stand next to me and push me to do just one more. . or ride one more mile. And being a stay at home mom, with both kids gone till afternoon, I get bored and give up easily. But I'm not paying a gym fee!

I know what you mean Diamondst, I hate working out alone. I was doing great at the end of June, myself and my Sister-in-Law were meeting at the gym everyday - Monday through Friday in the morning. Then she got a little under the weather and poop out on me. I kept it up all the way through to the end of August, we went on vacation for 10 days and it hasn't been the same since.

September was a total train wreck for me. But in October I started coming out of my self-induced coma, and little by little I'm coming back. One day at a time. I finally told myself, I can only depend on myself to get this done (with the support of all my Sparkers). I'm done with relying on other people to motivate me. I'm doing this for myself, not for them!!

Tell you what, let's team up for a little bit. I will go to the gym tomorrow (I go in the AM - its easier for me), we can virtually go together and then let each other know what we did. What do you say.

Anyone want to get in on this? emoticon Maybe we could make it a Challenge for our Team?

Hi Teamsters!
I haven't checked in with you all in a long time. I have been on a plateau for quite some time, but I am still happy with my success so far. I have gone from a tight size 18 to a very loose size 10; that's 5 sizes. I have lost 40 pounds since January and 32 pounds on SP.
I have become very active! I swim, do kickboxing, turbo kickboxing, yoga and water aerobics. I was probably headed to becoming a diabetic and have been struggling with hypoglycemia. My fibromyalgia has become very manageable. I am so glad that I joined back in March! SP has transformed my lifestyle.

OK night cravings - they have cost me the opportunity to lose ten pounds in last two months. But - I have not gained weight - held steady. And my cheats are foods that are in line with my goals - lower my cholesterol and keep my BP under control. Honey Nut Cheerios and Low Salt Oyster Crackers - there - I admitted it.

It is time for the next ten pounds - I have upped the exercise - now I need to reduce the snacking. It is time to move from size 38 pants to size 36. Time t secure the beachhead against obesity (I hate that word).

We can do it

Nope.
I look at it as, one meal will not break the bank, when all week I maintain my activity and keep within my calorie range. Tonight is date night with hubby, and I have eaten as I normally would have, before dinner I'm sitting at approx 600 calories. I have plently of room to eat a few bad things on the menu. Come tomorrow morning, back to proper eating.
I find it helps me avoid the ultimate binge where I just don't stop and become defeated and lose all the progress I've made. (you know, eat badly for days or weeks!) But the key is, I must be good all week long!

i'll have to try that cheating, but staying in calorie range.......sheesh, how do you do that, i know my cheat foods would far put me over!

do you limit to that day's calories, or do some calorie cycling?

Congrats onthe smaller sizes! Thats awsome!
Cravings are tough. I don't understand moderation. What I have done is allow myself one free meal per week. I can eat whatever & as much as I want for that one meal. The catch is, I must remain within my calorie range, and all good food all week long. I found very quickly that the amount I eat has gotten smaller, as my stomach shrinks. But this way I can satisfy the craving, and do it guilt free!

Success: Just for poo & giggles, I tried on some old pants this morning because mine were getting too loose to look ok for work. They fit!! Two sizes smaller in 5 months! emoticon I've got one more to go to make my goal!
Struggle: For the first time since I started my current healthy lifestyle I'm craving crap at night. I'm hoping it's hormonal and very temporary because it sucks! emoticon

you really want to talk about the belly? i totally believe i've done some damage, from losing- and gaining- and losing- and gaining.......i don't know if it's ever going to get to anything near "normal"- but i know i need to start some exercises for it.... i'm trying to start to do crunches every day- not sure if that's gonna do it, but something has to help!

good luck.......
i know exactly what you're talking about!!

I'm with you!
I don't look at the BIG picture. It's so far away that it appears as vague as if it's shrouded in a mist. Regardless, I know it's out there waiting patiently for me to arrive.
Heck, I thought 40 pounds was unattainable. But I did it.
I have so many little goals. That way when I reach one I feel good.
I take it one day at a time, too. Each day that I stay within range is a success. I reward myself with a nightly treat, too.
Then I turn those days into my weekly weigh in.
My meetings run in 12 week sessions. The time is flying by. I have two more weeks to go in this session before another group begins. I'll join that one, too.
I was the biggest loser the last time and won $75.
There were alot more people to join the group I'm in right now. So the cash prizes will be larger.
The top three losers get cash prizes based on the percentage of weight they drop. That way everyone is on an equal footing.
The fourth prize goes to the person who loses the most inches.
Talk about added incentive!!!

hi debra

you've done great!

i know i can't look at the big picture........it's still too big, too insurmountable for me

i have to do small goals, weekly, monthly, some days are still daily goals for me!!

if i look at how far yet to go- i get discouraged, so i try, very hard, to concentrate onhow far i've come

so congrats on breaking that platueau! and good luck on every good day in the future!!

Tonight was my weekly weigh in. I had my fingers crossed because last week I had gained a little for the first time.
But after a week of planning my meals, measuring everything, staying within range and drinking my daily 10 cups of water it paid off. I broke through my plateau and lost 3 pounds!
I've lost 40.4 pounds in the last 19 weeks since I joined SP.
Of course I still have about 85 pounds more to go! emoticon

Thanks for the ideas ... I've heard before about not eating enough and your body goes into starvation mode and won't release weight. I spoke to the trainer and she said the way I'm eating sounds correct, i.e. whole grains, lean protein, etc. I think I'll try cutting back a little and see if that has any effect. I'll be back with an update. Thanks again.emoticon

i've heard the same thing about calories

kind of switching them up

when i get stuck, or have bad days, i stick to just salads for a day or two to get my body moving again

probably not the smartest thing to do, but it works for me

i do know that muscle weighs more than fat, so as you get "fitter", you can easily gain weight before losing

i'm sure not any expert tho!

I've heard that sometimes it helps to switch up the activities or exercises or the intensity. Kind of jumpstart the metabolism. . . Also depending how hard you are working out you may not be eating enough. Maybe check with a trainer @ your gym who may be knowledgeable in this area.Good Luck!!!

I am so impressed with the progress everyone is making ... and wondering where I have gone wrong. I joined a gym in February and found SP in March. For several months I logged in daily, completed the Nutrition Tracker and stayed withing the caloric recommendations. I haven't lost any weight!! Still keeping up with the gym and walking the treadmill at home -- doing physical exercise at least 5 days a week. Talk about being discouraged. I'm reading how some people are going back to square one. I'm thinking I'll do the same. Just FYI, clothes are fitting better and I have much more energy. Just wish the weight would budge. I keep hearing you shouldn't go under 1200 calories a day. I stay within 1200 - 1550 and eat healthy. I'm at a loss with how to make progress. PS-Only have 15 pounds to lose. HELP!

I have just got over a nasty bout of renal colic and the good news is that I have not put on a gram!! I have been eating more since I have been on antibiotics, and my stomach needed to be full in order to take them, but no weight gain! this is good news! I may go back to the beginning too to see what I have missed! Probably a lot knowing me!

This morning I went back to the Spark Diet section and re-read the Fast-Break Strategy #2 (Finding the Time). It was good for me to see that I was letting momentum push me into poor choices again. By taking on too much I starting getting overwhelmed (which usually leads me to doing nothing positive). I'm going to my Spark streaks and use that to help me with just a couple of small goals. Saturday I had planned to take on eleven by the time I had signed on for different team challenges!emoticon Definitely not in my best interest. So it will be revised! We'll see how this week turns out!

You know, that's not such a bad idea. I may join you on that. I jumped into this and I don't think I've totally grasp things as I should. At first I tried to do everything all at once, only to find I had a lot of "junk" to address first. Blogging, message board and connecting with everybody has helped me wade through and try to make sense of some things.

I think starting from step 1 and moving slowly and carefully may be a step in the right direction.

Let me know how you're doing with this!emoticon

Checking in - after successful cholesterol reduction without drugs and movement of BP into 120/80 range I have not Sparked as much in the last 5 weeks. But I have been using the skills learned through Spark to slowly reduce my weight and maintain healthy eating habits. It is kind of a test to see how I can do without inputting everything I eat and being as dependent as I was on the program. Still a strong advocate for people starting the long journey. I am now down 28 pounds since I joined Spark and 45 pounds overall.

I may return soon to track cardio and strength work -= I have not been as specifically dedicated there - but have been returning to activities that are part of my sporting life, golf and hiking, as my overall activity level is running light years ahead of where I was at the start of my lifestyle change.

Hello everyone!! I haven't ever posted here on the "team" but, I'm diligently continuing to eat correcty and healthier. And my efforts are paying off immensely.
The first time I went to the Dr. after having been on the SparkDiet, I had lost 18lbs in 2 months. Yesterday I went to the Doc and have lost 21 lbs in just 6 weeks!!! That makes MY total weight loss 39 lbs since March 3!!!!
What a great motivation!!
Stick with it! If I can do it... ANYONE can!!

Yes people can say the meanest things to us they don't realize we are going to have bad days and weeks when the scale goes up or we eat all the wrong things

Yesterday one of the sale associates (that I work with)said something to me I had to think about she stated that she knew I lost weight alot of it I told her 60 pounds worth then she asked if i did it by gastric by pass procedure kinda hurt my feelings that I worked my butt totally off doing it the old fashion way but I guess so many op for the procedure no one thinks it can be done the old fashion way.

I am so glad I am not the only one who gets stuck- or , indeed, the only one to get sneered at...I have a colleague at work who had an abortive stomach band op and then lost a lot of weight due to the time she spent on ICU after the whole thing went wrong...I used to get peed off by what she said, and very hurt too, but now I just use it as one more motivating factor to lose the wight- so i can prove her wrong.
I feel it's sad to sneer at folks who are trying- none of us is perfect, and we all have our falling down points- I know I have.

Your post is motivating. I am just getting back on the wagon after a hiatus. I realized how far I'd gone when my 81 year old grandmother sneered, "I thought you said you were losing weight!" It is the truth, that I gained most of it back. Your post reminded me of setting goals. So, here's to a fresh start!

hey katzeyez--

sheesh- join the crowd- every day still is a struggle.....

i guess when all is said and done, i'm just hoping my successful days out-number the days i'm not so good

i keep hoping it'd get easier.......but every day it's still all i think of, all i hope for- to be strong and be good-

but for me it's still every day, every hour--

i suspect it's taken me years to get really comfortable in my bad habits........it's gonna take longer still to get good habits ingrained

so you're not alone.......

it's only been 3 months here!!

hello, all...
I am finally back, and still struggling...I am trying to be good, and I have cut out a lot of bad foods, but I am not seeming to be getting anyplace at the mo. I am permanently stuck at the 87 0r so kilo mark, and whatever I do, it just won't shift! I must really give this a kick this week- I am already back at the gym, but because of my painful, operated on knees, I am unable to do as much as I would like. I hope that I can finally make it this month...

The past week or so has been a struggle for me. I've been incredibly hungry even though I've been eating so good.
I've been trying to get in all my fruit and veggies. They taste so delicious now that I've stopped drinking soda pop. ( since the last week of Febuary )
By lunch time yesterday I could have eaten old newspapers I was so hungry even though I had eaten breakfast and had my morning snack.
Then it hit me. DUH! I was craving protein. I ate alot of protein rich foods for the rest of the day and still stayed within range. Whew! I felt so much better.
It was a lesson learned. I need to make sure I eat enough protein to feel full and satisfied.

Wow. Everyone has done great!!! I am not sure what my current weight is because I quit weighing. Approximately 5 weeks ago I started training for a triathlon, and about 7 weeks ago I quit smoking. Everytime I would weigh I would see an increase in my weight however I was putting in close to 15 hours of cardio a week and training harder than I ever had in my entire life. I decided the scale was not a true indication on my health level so it is firming in the closet until July 1 (no special date just a random date I made up). The triathlon is June 14th. I have lost 7 inches in my hips and 6 inches in my waist since March 2008.

emoticon to everyone on their goals met and weight/inches lost

Since I started 3/7/08 I have lost 16.2 lbs (slow and steady is ok with me)and I have managed to start and continue a cardio program that has made me feel better than I have in years. I do track my calories and exercise on a daily basis and believe that has been key for me, because I can very easily fall off the wagon and I mean way off but I have learned that you can get back on and start anew without feeling guilty and for me that has also been a huge success.

Again congrats to everyone and hear is to the next few months.

I have already tell you my story..

I just start SP and then we lost our internet, but with my printout emails I continue SP. I start to concerntrate on momentum. Start small and add every week just a little bit.

When I finaly weigh in I lost 5kg. I rest a while and start again, this time I feel more alive and with so much more energy. I lost another 4kg with not much hard work.

Last week I catch a cold, so I had to stop. But I feel much better now and next week I'm on my way losing the next 10kg.

Good luck to everyone..

Hello All, and congratulations on everyone's successes no matter how big or small.

My journey started much the same as TROOPS79's. In the 300lb area, and resigned to always being that way.

I have now lost a total of 31 lbs since joining SparkPeople, a total of 53 lbs since November, and I am just getting started. (Actually, this also includes two vacations where I wasn't really watching things as closely as I could have been, but I didn't gain anything on them, I just didn't lose anything either.) My full story is on my SparkPage, so I won't repeat it here, but this has been one of the most motivated things I have ever done.
It was really neat to go through my closet and put on a pair of leather pants that haven't fit in five years... lol :)

Keep it up everybody. We will do this, no matter what.

I honestly believe this site has changed my life. I know it's only been 3 months, but I've already lost 15lbs. Also, I've learned so many things about nutrition and exercise I've never known that this has become a priceless experience. I plan to be here long after I reach my goal, and most importantly, I now believe that I can achieve it.

I've lost 21 lbs in the 3 months since joining. I have had some so-so days.
But so far I have made my goals.
I too I'm taking it one day at a time!
but I'm grateful for 20 lbs lost so far and just 20 to 30 lbs to go.

I love Sparkpeople and all my team mates.

Let us keep on till we get were WE want to be.

hi there

i'm doing ok

i think i'm like others, i actually had started 1/3/08 (again)- but didn't find this site til march

so i'm on track- i've always tried to lose lots of weight fast, and i guess i've finally learnt, or accepted, that it doesn't work for me

so i've made my "mini-goals"

this now is a crucial time for me, i've gotten to this weight the last 2 junes, and then quit- didn't maintain, etc

so i'm struggling to get thru these next weeks and keep going

trying not to have history repeat itself

i've found the team challenges do help keep me going, knowing a team is counting on me helps when i feel like cheating

and i have not started any of the nutrition tracking yet, not sure why, probably afraid to really see what i have to change

but so far, so good

i do believe this site has helped me stay on track

and you guys have done so well!!

wow

In these three months, I have been able to lose thirty pounds. I am about ten pounds shy of my goal, which I hope to attain within the next two months. I have been able to lose my weight by keeping track of my food every day and keeping track of my exercise. The biggest help, though, has been the support from other SparkPeople who have cheered me on throughout my struggle.

Hello I am at 153 pounds. Not sure what I was when I started. Love the support and I learned the scale is not the best judge about loosing weight. Your clothes, your measurements. I too started this journey before sparkpeople. I was 174 pounds. I've lost 15 inches. Everything in my closet fits and that is great. I didn't make my first goal of 149 May 30th. Alittle disappointed but I am lossing only a pound or two a month. I am 62 and it is harder. I exercise alot and thought wow I can get to that goal easy. Along my path I have met so many people who are an inspiration to me. My life is not that bad I can do this I am not going to gain it back like in the many years I struggled with weight. I know what I can eat I know that this is not a diet it is my life.

I've lost 4kg. I've really, really got portions under control now, but still struggle to get enough protein from time to time.

I wanted to lose more, but my doctor suggested that my weight loss may be affecting my ability to conceive (we're trying for number one). Even after "going off" sparkpeople for two months, I didn't gain any weight -- looks like SP got something through my thick skull afterall!

Good luck to all of you and so nice to hear that you are all hanging in there and doing so well.

I've dropped a little over 30 pounds since I joined SP.
It took me awhile to set up the Nutrition Tracker with all my foods. But it was certainly worth all the effort. I use it every single day. It's the key to my weight loss. I know I couldn't have made it this far without it.
Everyone here at SP is so encouraging and motivating.
My next mini goal it is to be at a 40 pound loss for the 4th of July...my birthday.

I *almost* down 60lbs, but I started losing before I joined here. When I started in January, I was just watching what I ordered when I was out to eat and reading labels more for what I bought to make at home. I did that for 2 months and had lost about 25lbs before joining Spark. I've been able to really keep close watch on what I eat and how much I exercise with Spark. I'm not sure if I'd be seeing the same results without Spark. I mean, I'm sure I'd still be losing weight, but maybe not quite as much.

Still on track to lose 102lbs by my birthday October 18th!! :-D

Oh another thing about losing 50 lbs+ in a relatively short period of time. Judging by your post, you are nearly 1/2 my size, so when you factor that in...

I've lost 14 lbs in the 3 months since joining. I've had some yo-yo weeks, but I'm grateful for 14 lbs lost so far. I had hoped that at this point I would have lost 20-25 lbs in 3 months, but I'm taking it one day at a time!

How I've been losing weight:

I consume around 1600 calories a day (lower than Sparks' range but a number I found from the Mayo Clinic so I trust it), I do 45-60 mins of cardio 5 days a week, Linebacker (combo resistance strength training/cardio) a sixth day and rest the seventh day. I do strength training another day in there somewhere. I've stopped drinking pop and started drinking water, now eat breakfast, and am eating more balanced meals. Also, it probably helps that I'm a dude. We seem to lose it a bit faster.

I think I'm doing well...
I've lost 22.5 pounds since starting!
I've had a few weeks with no loss but fortunately no weeks with gains!
I'm staying motivated and learning so much about myself, my body and food!
The one area that I'm not doing great with is exercise. But I'll get there! I'm working on it!

My first mini-goal was to be 199 lbs or less. I can't tell you when I was there last! Maybe right before my 20 month old daughter was born when I'd joined WW and lost 26 pounds but I was only there for a second! LOL
I'm now also out of the 'obese' category BMI and into overweight. And I've just hit my goal of losing 20% of my starting body weight.

I haven't sent my mini-goal #4 yet~ but I think it's going to be simple and will be to be into the 180s! I don't think I've been there since before my 7 yo son was born!

I'm really trying to work on making permanent changes~ like eating well, drinking enough water and being active. The weight loss is my ultimate goal but I want to keep it off this time!

Congratulations to everyone else!

(Can I ask how those of you that have lost 50+/- pounds are doing it?? I'm guessing gastric bypass/bariatric surgery?? Forgive me, I don't want to belittle anyone's hard work! It just sounds like SO MUCH to me!)

In the 3 months since joining Spark, I've lost approx. 50 lbs and a total of 85 since the start of the year. Things have been going better than expected and I passed my first goal of getting under 300 lbs about a month ago, a month ahead of what I hoped. Next stop is 100 lbs lost...

I have been doing pretty good. Congratulations to you on your huge loss!! I have lost 65 pounds in the last year, 15 of it with SP help. Workin' on the last 10 right now. I might adjust my goal again when I lose another 5...see where I'm at. It has finally become about me being happy and comfortable with my body and not about the actual number on the scale. Struggling at the moment with TOM. Fighting those cravings and mood swings!!

Hi Linda and others,

Have been successful in taking some pounds off but not anywhere near what Linda has done! I've been recording the food that I eat but sometimes cheat on the portions. I've also recorded my fitness and am able to exceed what my goals are since I bike to work and am active on weekends.

Hope everyone is on their way to a healthier life.

I've lost about 8 pounds over the past 3 months. Only 1 of them has been in the last month. I'm having a hard time staying motivated. The last 2 weeks have been rough. I'm trying to get back on track now.
