The glucose test can be a pain, but it is to protect your baby and you from complications. I'll have to have my first test in July and we will go from there. I doubt I'll need further testing, but I'll go if it is needed despite the fact I hate needles.

During my first pregnancy I had to be tested every month till my daughter was born. I didn't have GD, but they wanted to make sure as I was diagnosised with type 2 diabetes years before getting pregnant. I know the test were to make sure it didn't come back even though I had it under control with diet and exercise.

I hope all goes well and you have a healthy pregnancy and baby.

If you notice anything that doesn't make sense in my post or a wrong word, I'm using my iPhone that loves to change what I say or can't keep up with my typing.

Don't mind the lady with the baby, I'm sleep deprived and my words may not make sense. Even this section almost didn't. lol

That's what I thought...I already took the glucose test on Wednesday and so I'm waiting for the results, but they told me if I pass that glucose test, then at 18 weeks I'll need to repeat it and if I pass that one, then at 28 weeks I'll need to repeat it.

Is that normal? To repeat it 3 times throughout the pregnancy? (Last time, I took it at 28 weeks and failed...)

I personally would start with the glucose test. If those aren't any indication of GD then you may not need the others. Since you're already different with this pregnant, the doc should know it may not be the same. Just because you had GD once doesn't mean you'll have it again. It isn't like type 1 or 2.

I know doctors have to be on the safe side now, I KNOW, but is this normal or is this over kill?

I had GD with my first pregnancy and it had nothing to do with my eating habits and all to do with my weight and active kidney disease (my kidney disease took me from 25 pounds overweight to 50 pounds overweight). I was placed on 10mg of oral insulin and it barely worked, but I was close enough to my due date that they didn't want to put me on shots unless it got real bad.

With my new pregnancy, I'm in better shape (still overweight though) and have been exercising throughout the pregnancy (9 weeks along), but because of my issues last time, they want me to:

1. Even though I have been discharged by my kidney doctor as cured, do a 24 hour urinalysis with a full CBC.

2. Take THREE 1 hr glucose tests throughout my pregnancy (today, at 18 weeks and at 28 weeks if I pass the first two, otherwise TWO 3hr tests at 18 and 28)

3. Get a First Trimester Screening for reasons unknown to me (has nothing to do with GD or kidney disease)

4. Visit my nephrologist again, even though my last screening in Feb of this year all came back normal AND he discharged me as a patient (he told me that pregnancy will NOT bother my kidneys)
