“WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?”
This is a Team Contest Challenge, meaning people will be divided into teams to compete in meeting the daily challenges. I will set up the teams, post the results of how each team did, and declare a winning team. I will also re-post the team line-ups to reflect any changes.

This challenge will run for 4 weeks beginning on Thursday, October 4th and ending on Wednesday, October 31st.

The team contests consist of two parts: Daily Accountability and Weekly Weights. Each week there will be a winning points team and a winning weight loss team.

PART ONE: DAILY ACCOUNTABILITY

Every day you will give yourself 10 points for each category that you meet the daily goal in these FIVE areas:
1. Calorie Range-within your recommended range (not UNDER or OVER)
2. Water (minimum 8 glasses per day, 64 ounces)
3. Exercise (minimum of 30 minutes cardio and/or 5 strength-training exercises)
4. Posting 5 times somewhere in this team's forums (this can be in the daily check-in, games threads, etc.)
5. Same Day Post - posted the same day you earned the other categories(For example, if you post your Monday daily points on Monday, you earn the 10 points. Post your Monday points on Tuesday and you don't receive them. This is to help keep up accountable DAILY to keep working towards healthy habits and goals.)

BONUS POINTS:
Give yourself an extra 10 points if you meet all FIVE categories! (So daily point totals can be 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, or *60* for a maximum of 420 per week!)

The weeks for points will run from THURSDAY to WEDNESDAY. Points should be posted on the “Daily Points” thread every day for the month's challenge.

In order for your points to be included toward your team total, please have your daily counts posted by THURSDAY (after the current week).

Make your post of daily points on the “Daily Points” thread.
Please use this format:
10/04 W1 D1
Calories: 1500 (10)
Water: 8 glasses (10)
Exercise: 30 cardio (10)
5 times posting: Yes! (10)
Same Day Post: Yes! (10)
Bonus: 10
D1 total: 60
W1 total: 60

While I realize that not everyone will be able to post every single day of the challenge, the idea of this challenge is to keep us all accountable DAILY for healthy habits to create a permanent lifestyle change.
** PLEASE MAKE AN EFFORT TO POST DAILY! **

*Please note: if you are absent from posting for more than one week, you will be dropped from your team.

The team with the most points at the end of each week will win the points challenge for that week. I will record all team member points and post the team winners on a separate thread.

PART TWO: WEEKLY WEIGH-INS
Every THURSDAY you will post your weight on the “Weights Only” thread. You will post your starting weight on the first day of the challenge and then post your weight every week on THURSDAYS for the duration of the challenge month.

Each team will be trying to “out lose” the other team. If you gain, it is NOT counted against your team; only the losses are tallied to see who wins each week. So, don’t be afraid to post your weight if you gain or maintain! It takes time to establish good habits and none of us are perfect!!

The team that loses the most weight for the week will win for that week. I will record team member weights and post that information on a separate thread with the team winner.


ABOUT THE TEAMS
Once I post the “Week One Team Line-Up”, the challenge will be closed to additional challenge members.

“HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?”
To be placed on a team, simply go to the “Gearing Up for the October Challenge” thread and simply state that you want to participate.

“WHEN DO I NEED TO JOIN BY?”
You need to post on the “Gearing Up for the October Challenge” thread ON or BEFORE Wednesday, October 3rd. You will then need to post your starting weight on the “Weights Only” thread on Thursday, October 4th.

“WHAT IF I CAN’T POST DAILY?” or “WHAT IF I AM AWAY?”
If you cannot post daily, you can still participate. Post your daily points as you are able to. Ideally, it’s all about the daily posts. As mentioned above, in order for your points to be counted towards your team total they need to be by end of the week. And let’s face it, if you are posting daily, you are more likely to be successful in achieving your goals (and you'll earn bonus points for you team!)

If you are going to be out of town or on vacation, etc., you can post your points and weight when you get back. Send me a sparkmail if you know you are going to be absent for more than one week to prevent being dropped from your team.

*Please note: if you are absent from posting for more than one week, you will be dropped from your team.

“WHY/HOW IS SOMEONE DROPPED FROM THE TEAM CHALLENGE?”
1. Lack of Participation: Point posting and weekly weigh-in posts stop happening. People who are absent from posting for more than one week are automatically dropped from the challenge. While I do try to contact people via sparkmail to encourage continuation, my free time does not allow me to chase down every person involved. We need to hold ourselves accountable.

2. Did Not Post Start Weight: If a person does not post their start weight (on the “Weights Only” thread) on the first day of the challenge, they are automatically dropped from the challenge.

3. By Request: Occasionally circumstances arise that requires someone to need to be eliminated.

“HOW CAN I KEEP TRACK OF MY DAILY CHALLENGE POINTS AND WEIGHTS?”
I have created a tracker in Microsoft Excel that will be sent to each participant. I will request your e-mail address when we do the first weigh-in so I can send you the tracker.

“THIS SOUNDS HARD!”
Ah, yes, well remember, this IS a *challenge* and that means it will require commitment on every team member’s part to hold yourself accountable for your daily posts and weekly weigh-ins. It may seem simple enough, but the challenge part comes in by keeping it up every day!

Please try to stay in the challenge for the duration of the 4 weeks. If you need to drop out, please have the courtesy of letting me know. If you have a vacation or some other reason why you may be away for a period of time that would prevent you from daily posts, please let me know - I try to be very accommodating and would like to see everyone who wants to participate do well!

Now, I don’t want to sound discouraging, but if you are not up for staying in the challenge for the entire month, then please do not participate. I can not individually sparkmail people every week when your are MIA and it is a major hassle to have to shuffle the teams around every week due to dropouts. YOU have to take on the challenge and make the commitment for yourself.

Having said that, LET’S USE THIS CHALLENGE TO SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER as we challenge ourselves to healthy living! We are all doing this together!!

If I make an error in recording statistics or some other error, please update me and forgive me that I am only human.

YOU are challenged to:
-Post that you want to join on the “Gearing Up for the October Challenge” thread by Wednesday, October 3rd.

-Post your start weight on the “Weights Only” thread ON THE START DAY (not before….)

-Post on the “Daily Points” thread every day

-Post your weight every THURSDAY on the “Weights Only” thread

-Support and encourage your fellow team mates (regardless of what team they are on!)

-Commit to remaining in the monthly challenge for duration of the four weeks
