I like it for my light toning days. You burn more calories when you add the sticks.

I do think Toning will be easier when you're comfortable with regular Zumba moves, a lot can be going on at once. Try it out and if it's too much, stick with regular Zumba for a while and try Toning again in a month or so. This way, no harm done.

Thanks Beth. Do you think I should wait before I start toning since I am new to Zumba?

You would be safer to keep your movements smaller rather than large. Less opportunity for injury this way. And if you need to slow it down, do that too. Better safe than,,,

Adding weights to cardio is ALWAYS a concern! Just think about how much more stress you put on your joints! And if you are doing FAST paced movements, adding weight will just exacerbate an injury, if one occurs!

I also just started teaching Toning classes as well, I have been diong regular Zumba for 1.5 years. I'm not 100% sold on this concept of weights + cardio... but I will give it a little more time to make my final decision. (I have been a body builder before I taught Zumba... so I am quite well versed in my fitness.)

To each their own... if you enjoy it, and can do it safely, without injury... GO FOR IT!

I think the 2.5 pound weight would be fine for you.

I feel the effects of the zumba toning workout and think that because I am obese I had a good result. I think heavier weights would be helpful. I use 8 lb weights for my other toning/strength workouts. I will order the heavier weights. I also recently purchased and received the Zumba FitnessTotal-Body transformation workout (the first packaged workout available) and look forward to having more variety. I truly enjoy aqua zumba and really feel the effects of that as well.

I just started doing Zumba at home with the Exhilarate DVDs - the 30 min Toning one is my favorite. The first time I did it and the Sentao one but I need to get different chairs - mine is not sturdy enough. I definitely could feel it the next day though.

Since then I have only been doing the toning (not Sentao) and while I don't feel it as much as the first day when I did both - I do feel it. But I find I have to make sure I really concentrate on engaging my core muscles or the workout is not quite as good.

I like Zumba toning. Zumba really engages ur core, but toning takes it a step further.

The only thing standing in the way of ur success is U!!

I also teach Zumba Toning and it's much harder to teach than regular Zumba because there are many body parts working in different rhythms. If you do not ever lift weights then it's a good way to get that kind of workout in with much of the same fun as Zumba. Form is very important; however, and it's up to the teacher to point it out, while you check your own form in the mirror (if there is one). It takes a little getting used to.

Zumba Toning takes a little more time to "feel" the workout. It's up to the student to engage the muscles, and also there are 2.5 lb. toning sticks available, which you can move up to once you have mastered your form. Form is very important in the toning format.

I tried Zumba Toning yesterday with the toning sticks. It was interesting, but I didn't really feel the workout. Has anyone else tried it? If so, what are your thoughts?
