Adding weights to cardio is ALWAYS a concern! Just think about how much more stress you put on your joints! And if you are doing FAST paced movements, adding weight will just exacerbate an injury, if one occurs!
I also just started teaching Toning classes as well, I have been diong regular Zumba for 1.5 years. I'm not 100% sold on this concept of weights + cardio... but I will give it a little more time to make my final decision. (I have been a body builder before I taught Zumba... so I am quite well versed in my fitness.)
To each their own... if you enjoy it, and can do it safely, without injury... GO FOR IT!
