I take a 2000mg single pill of D3 daily.(that 3 is important! Not all vitamin D is created equal. Vitamin D3 is most effective, most easily absorbed and put to work). I also take a combination pill of Calcium with 600mg of vitamin D3 at night, and my morning multivitamin has some in it, too, not sure how much. Vitamin D3 is about the cheapest supplement you can buy, only 2 or 3 dollars for a month's supply. All of us need it, especially those taking Placquinel or anyone who works inside or is housebound all day. Most people living outside the tropics are deficient in vitamin D, yet it is crucial for body processes from building Bone and teeth to making your nerve cells work properly, keeping your skin and arteries properly elastic and more. If you don't take any other supplements, take this on. I also take fish oil capsules, co-Q-10 and Chromium Picolate.

Every day I take 2000mg of D-3, fish oil and I try to get my dairy in every day. I try not to be in the sun too much with our light sensitivity with Plaquenil, but I have to for about 30 min. or so with filling up water pails for our dairy calves. The ones that don't use the water Ritchies yet like the cows. The cows have more senority! ha! I am thinking of getting out the straw hat, but hate hats, but really think that I better. I put sunscreen on, but you just can't get every spot.
I have a problem with my parathyroid gland which is the producer of Vit.D in the body (I think it produces it...it may just regulate it)...any way I have Vit D levels that are in the basement. For a long time I had to take mega doses of it...prescription strength...Now I just take ??? I don't know the dose...2 pills anyway! lol ...I will research the dose and let you know. I also try to sit out on my porch in the sun for at least 15 minutes a day.
That's a great challenge, Judith! Vitamin D is SO important. I eat fish, fish, fish, dairy, take fish oil supplement and take 1400 IU of Vitamin D supplement daily.
I broke my hip 2 years ago when I fainted. That's when the doctor discovered I have osteoporosis. Soon after the hip fracture and before I had been on the Vitamin D supplements for very long, my foot broke while I was lying in the bed perfectly still. You can bet I get my Vitamin D!
