There are quite a few gluten free products out there right now. Some are healthy and some are not. You have to kind of read the ingredients.

-American consumers have no problem with carcinogens, but they will not purchase any product, including floor wax, that has fat in it. - Dave Barry
-My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four; unless there are three other people. - Orson Welles
-The food here is terrible, and the portions are too small. - Woody Allen

I am 52 and I started SB on Oct. 9th, the day after Cdn. thanksgiving - had to get my mashed potatoes, stuffing and pumpkin pie in first - so I have completed 10 days. I am down 3 pounds and feel fantastic! I am committed to 30 minutes of cardio a day which has been doable so far, if I can't get the treadmill in before work, I take my sneakers and walk at lunch or if I get home fast enough before dark, I walk the dogs. Last night after a very stressful day at work, instead of a glass of wine, I did yoga for 20 minutes.

I have never had to worry about weight until I hit menopause then it seemed to creep on and mostly in my belly. When my waist size hit 35" and the tape measure I got from Heart & Stroke said 'high risk' I decided it was time to do something.

SB seems to be working for me so far, I really don't have any cravings. I do find not having a drink in the evening tough, mostly because of the ritual of sitting with my husband over a glass of wine but it is getting easier every day and I am just trying to find a new ritual. I am committed to this change!

Phase 1 IS water weight loss IF (key word there folks) if you are coming to SB from a high carb or NO prior dieting. That first week is water weight which is why everyone sees that 5lb or so drop. The second week we tend to settle into a "normal" weight loss which would be fat loss. So technically p1 is a mix for most folks.

Everyone says most of the weight in Phase 1 is fluid, but I disagree. I think there is fat loss along with fluid. I don't know how South Beach works with P90X, but it works for my sil. He's always had a low fat % though.

I am 51. Good for you in wo P90X. I don't thinkcould do it. When I stick with the SB way of eating, I am able to lose.

I am 51...I started SB 1/2007...lost 60 pounds over about 14 months and have maintained (up and down 5lbs pretty much) since. It was all pretty steady weight loss until the last 20ish. My weight loss is posted under my info on my sparkpage if you want an idea.

Technically phase 1 is primarily water weight loss (assuming your way of eating has changed drastically, ie not coming from another low carb type diet) so anything beyond that is fat loss.

How is the weight loss for women in the 40-50 age range? I know for me it's been difficult to get the pounds off before starting South Beach. But now I'm working out with P90X. Anyone see a difference with South Beach or the combination of SB and P90X love to hear from you?
How long before you saw any real fat loss?
