Great weight loss. Phase one is amazing!

So glad things settled down for you and congrats on the weight loss in the first week! emoticon

Hey- just wanted to let you know that I'm finishing up the first week of phase 1 and still going strong. Thanks so much for the soluble fiber suggestions- beans and brussels sprouts have saved the day! I did end up adding one serving of whole grains first thing in the morning after a few days, but I've still lost 6 pounds this week and I feel great. Thanks again for the help and for running this team site!

Last night I threw some chickpeas in with the vegetables I was roasting, and they were great! Kind of reminded me of the corn nuts I ate as a kid.

I will have to try chickpeas on my salad, I love salad with a crunch to it. So I usually add soy nuts, they have tons of fiber in them.

I've never had a food allergy, though I have been tested for celiac. However, I'm not eating anything new on phase 1, just cutting some things out, so an allergy doesn't make sense to me. But today I threw some garbanzo beans on my salad and so far, so good. Thanks for the suggestions!

I agree with Kierae. Your symptoms sound almost like a food allergy to me, like people experience with wheat. Some people have a strong laxative effect from beans if they are not used to consuming them every day.

Yup I had a prior history of IBS so I can understand that certain things may trigger you (mine was fatty cuts of meat) but thankfully resolved after being on SB for awhile. Hopefully you will figure out what the issue is. Other option is to go into phase 2 (or do a modified phase 1.5 but at least keep yourself limited to one serving of grains).

Yeah, I'm tracking everyday. But IBS changes the way your body reacts to things. I'll try those soluble fiber suggestions, and hopefully I'll last a little longer this time. Thanks!

Kinda odd since most folks have those symptoms WHEN they eat wheat so I can't say they are typical. These symptoms can be from folks who are getting in too much fiber for their system - are you actually tracking your diet and know what you are getting?

Sources of soluble p1 fibers:
psyllium seeds, broccoli, lentils, brussel sprouts, chickpeas and beans, such as lima beans, pinto beans, and kidney beans.

I routinely get 30-35 grams of fiber, so it's not the adjustment thing (though I know it can be a big problem for many people).

I usually last about a day and a half on phase 1 before I have terrible bloating, nausea, cramping and diarrhea. If I have a slice of whole wheat bread or a whole wheat English muffin each morning, it relieves the symptoms enough that I can last a few more days. The last few times I've tried phase 1, I've only made it 3 or 4 days tops before I'm just too sick to continue. On phase 2, I'm just fine (better than off-diet, actually), but I really want to get the benefits of phase 1. I've been off SB for at least a year, and would like to clear the sugar out of my system again and it seems counter-productive to be eating the bread.

Maybe it's the soluble fiber I need? Is there any other way to get soluble fiber that would be okay for phase 1?

Sometimes it takes a while to adjust to eating 4.5 cups of veggies plus beans when you are not used to a lot of fiber. Be sure and eat them with some protein. Get your water in.

If you have constipation drink lots of water, get your beans in, healthy fats, and choose high fiber veggies.

The SB mantra is read the ingredients (not the nutrtionals). Your yogurt should only have milk and lactob in it. Some put pectin to thicken...not ideal. Your fiber one has modified corn starch (for thickening) - so not legal.

I would avoid fiber one yogurt if it's flavored. Which I think it is.

Dr. A. says to drink caffeine in moderation. Nonfat Greek yogurt is allowed.

Are caffine and greek yogurt allowed? I read somewhere the caffine is not allowed. Then I have fiber one yogurt and it has 13 carbs and 5 grams of fiber, would that be ok to eat or should I avoid it?
