Thanks for checking my nutrition tracker! Had no idea about the cheese... oh noooo! When I first started I hated the ricotta -- now I love it -- will have to swap out one of my cheese sticks for some other snack tomorrow.

Ok, now about the yogurt... do you all eat plain greek yogurt? I don't know how you do it, with no fruit or sugar. Don't think I could stomach the plain.

Today I didn't do very good cause I woke up late, so didn't eat as much. But, back to work tomorrow, so I will be back on schedule!

ps - good save Morticia! and way to get back on track!

I ate a third of a loaf of homemade barley bread yesterday. emoticon

My carb level sucked but I managed to stay in my calorie level and get plenty of exercise in. Kind of a good save. emoticon

Today I'm doing good. emoticon

Checked your tracker - a couple things jumped out (and very common). Get in those 4 1/2 cups of veggies. v8 counts as 1/2 cup and can only use it towards 1/2 cup total no matter how much you drink. Really watch the cheese. Serving size is 1 ounce of hard (or 1/2 cup of cottage or ricotta) and most folks overdo cheese and it will stall you out. On phase 1, you can usually get away with two servings but some folks can't even do that on a daily basis. Cheese is counted as cheese/protein versus dairy. You are allowed 2 cups of nonfat/lowfat dairy which is milk or plain yogurt. So you might swap out one of your cheese snacks for yogurt or milk. Or add nuts (one serving allowed).

You can also add beans - which gives you a boost in calories and good fiber choice (which will tend to run lower in phase 1).

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. Agatha Christie

So sounds like most of us survived day 1? On to day 2!

I am going to bust out of my normal salad for dinner mode tonight and make chicken breast stuffed with a blue cheese laughing cow cheese wedge mixed with chopped spinach. Bake that bad boy and sprinkle on some hot sauce and serve it with a side of mashed cauliflower. YUMMO!

Started today. Glad to have day one under my belt, so to speak, lol. My fabulous niece is joining me for her first trip on the Beach. Wish us luck.

Also, scales are still packed so I've decided to go by how my clothes fit. I've heard of doing it that way, so I'm gonna give it a shot. Will be the first time I ever dieted without scales! Let's hope it works better than ever.

....meanwhile, I'm waiting for sugar-free jello to chill.

Thanks for the TEAMWORK!

Okay, did my weight and measurements, and had a good day today on P1!

Opening up my nutrition tracker so you guys can look at it if you want, and give me tips. It's very scary, but I realized that's because of additional accountability - a good thing!

I also joined the 28-day challenge.

For me, the hardest part will be fitting in the veggies, and not getting bored with the food. I've seen lots of great recipes on this team, and of course the recipes in the book, but I'm lazy so I tend to eat lots of the same things -- mostly salad and chicken.

Glad to have you guys to help get me started!!

Kierae emoticon Only you would consider a Satsuma (mandarin orange) a pre phase 1 splurge. lol!

On New Year's Eve, I was tempted to splurge on the homemade fettucini alfredo that my daughter in-law made for dinner, but after only one bite I actually gagged and couldn't eat anymore. It's truly amazing how our taste buds change on this lifestyle plan.

Also after weighing in this morning, I discoverd that during the holiday season from Thanksgiving to today, that I only gained 2 lbs. instead of my usual 7 - 10 (and that was with splurging on a lot more than fruit and bread).
emoticon

It's now time for us to get back on track and focus on losing again and getting back in shape this winter! As we all well know...Spring will be arriving in just a matter of a few months.

Have a emoticon emoticon all.

emoticon to all my beachers!

Happy 2011! For those of you who use the scale - get your beginning weight. Break out that tape measure and get measurements. Sometimes the scale doesn't move but that tape measure will tell a different tale.

My household laughed at me yesterday because I clearly was demonstrating "omg I am going on phase 1" mentality. Champagne, asian pears, satsumas, a piece of bread my girlfriend made....

And let phase 1 begin! I warn the new folks now with regards to my tracker: there are some rules I don't follow exactly when it comes to food choices. I use full fat half and half. It is clean versus ff half and half (have you read the ingredients??). Ditto on the bacon versus turkey bacon. I like the real deal where I can pronounce everything. I keep my chemicals limited to my crystal light packets which I use for my yogurt. emoticon

This is a lifestyle so sometimes we have to figure out how to make this work for us. This is particularly important when you are dealing with things like gluten intolerance, intolerance to splenda, or just want to eat clean. South Beach can still work for you if you really want it to. emoticon

Happy Day 1, everyone -- unless you are celebrating with a New Year's meal, that is. My breakfast today is:
1 cup of vanilla yogurt (non-fat and NSA)
2 tablespoons of peanut butter (off the spoon, yum!) and
coffee with non-fat milk

Its not exactly appropriate as a New Year's Brunch, but its perfect to get me back into my skinny jeans.

emoticon

Hubby, ITSCOREY, is struggling with depression following his diagnoses of Type 1 diabetes and brain damage (from untreated diabetes). I hope I can get him back on the program, too, because his food is making me fat. emoticon

As for exercise, I'm deciding not to do Boot Camp. I'll be walking Corky The Dog, instead, and working my way back to running.

I want to run another half marathon this year. May is the date.

...Pam

PS For the sake of my own depression, I'm not going to weigh myself until my grey dress suit fits nicely again.

Happy New Year All!
emoticon

Before starting P1 tomorrow, I had my last high carb breakfast of whole wheat toast with crunchy peanut butter, 1/2 banana & raisins this morning. After I ring in the new year with some champagne that will be it for having any Wine for two weeks, the thing I find the hardest to give up during P1.

Has anyone else joined the 28 day bootcamp workout challenge?

Best Wishes!

I'm going to jump back on this. I'll have to step away on the 9th for a short while, but I'll be back for the remainder.

I received one of my SB cookbooks for Christmas. Made the Mexican Chicken Soup for lunch this week ... very good. I have a few other bookmarked. I'm about to order the cookbook that I really wanted.

2 months post op on the shoulder and 1 week postop on the elbow. Shoulder works great...elbow still horribly swollen and black and blue. Staples come out next monday (all 25 of them..lol). I can't wait so I can push a bit more!

And definitely misery loves company on phase 1..lol.

I use my nutrition tracker here to record my food (although been horribly slack of late with it). I find it helps me plan out my meals better and I make sure I get those 4 1/2 cups of veggies in. And since calories do count for most folks (particularly when the weight loss slows down, you are in the last 10-20 pounds, or you are older/hormonal/etc), it helps me keep track. Also when you all use the tracker, it helps us leader types to help you tweak or identify problem areas if you hit the wall.

Some folks like using the tracker, others only use it occasionally. I will use mine and keep it public so that folks can get some ideas if they get in a rut or just want to see a comparison.

Kierae,

Read this last night and it is still on my mind. SO kind of you to offer to do this 4 week program with us -- seems I am always "starting over" on Day 1!

Can you explain a little more how this will work? You mentioned something about nutrition tracker...

I will kinda put my little pinky toe in. LOL. Which means I will clean up my act, Obi Wan, but I haven't went totally bonkers so I won't need to do a strict phase one. I'll cut back on fruit and will keep my fruit fetish under control which will be hard for this old fruit fly. And stop calling me an old timer, you wart hog!! emoticon LOL.

Kierae, I'm in. I definitely need to get back on track. I almost need to reread Phase 1 to remember what I can eat.

Good afternoon! Since we are going to have an influx of new folks starting on the South Beach team, I decided I would commit to doing phase 1 to hopefully help others get through it. Sometimes having someone's tracker to view to get food ideas, to commiserate with, etc. is what we need to push us thru those two weeks. I don't need to lose weight but I definitely need to fine tune my diet - detox from the sugar and breads of the holiday season. Get myself back on 3 meals and 2-3 snacks every day. Get back on track with water. And get myself back to the lower end of my "allowed" weight range I have set for myself. It also includes getting in some type of exercise EVERY day.

So I am committing to start January 1st. I had pondered doing Monday the 3rd since most people will put off starting a diet until Monday. BUT I began South Beach 1/1/2007 and I don't see any reason to put off what we commit to which this is a lifestyle so why wait?

So if you want to join me, please do so. This will be a 4 week challenge. Two weeks of phase 1 and two weeks of transitioning into phase 2. I know some of the "old timers" normally don't want to repeat phase 1 so that is your choice. I know many of us need a tune up - however we git it done.

It doesn't matter when you start, JUST DO IT. Use this team for motivation - we have such great support here. You have nothing to lose but weight and everything to gain which is your health!

***If you join the team after the 1st of January, it is cool to jump in at any point!
