Let's kept this topic alive! 2011 is half over -- but NOW is the time to push forth thru this HOT Summer and bring in the Fall season with renewed sense of commitment to good health and losing weight. I - have been on a plateau for months -- I sometimes think I am just "playing" this and living my life with abandon to weight loss goals due to stress.

Today is was in control of my eating. I did have to leave the house -- bec. I was in that "fix me a snack" mode....I made a snack for grandson - and it was difficult to omit the cookies (he wanted to make some) NO! Not now - I told him. I made pan biscuits.

Did do exercises on the floor while we played with Legos. Which I felt I needed an engineering degree to make some of the figures he was wanting!!

Also, got in pool laps.

My goal is met for today! Tomorrow - please God - I will continue to keep my healthy goals.

Blessings to each of you!

F.R.O.G.
Fully Rely On God!

I may need some water wings, swim, fins, and a snorkel soon. I guess I could dig out my scuba equipment.

Brand new month! In the one month I have gone down 4 1/2 pounds - I can't complain about that at all. Need to drop a little bit more since I have Houston BBQ Championships coming up at the end of month which means lots of bbq and drinking. emoticon

Not too bad. I'm not doing any lifting. Of course NOAA NWS just called from Paducah and activated my storm spotter status so I am in and out taking measurements in this glop which doesn't help. I hope I don't fall.

Thought I'd share with you all the following update:

Bill Phillips is releasing a new "Transformation Solution" package Feb. 1st @ 50% off, if anyone is interested in more info. use the link below.

thetransformationsolution.com/index-47.p
hp

I have already downloaded the "Transformation" book and am currently reading it. The food plan & exercise are the pretty much the same as the body for life plan, except the eighteen week challenge is broken down into 18 action steps.

It reminds me very much of the holistic approach of transforming not only your body, but your mindset, motivations, limiting beliefs, emotions etc. like the "Inside Out Weight Loss" free podcasts.

I am planning to complete all the action steps, but I'll be sticking with the SB WOE. If your interested in anymore info. you can check out transformation.com for free to see many very inspiring before & after photos and testimonials.

Awww Slimnana - sorry its a quiet team (heck I have a few of those myself). I haven't heard about the book but look forward to hearing what you have to say about it. I am feeling fortunate that I had a hysterectomy when I was 35. I only had to deal with the hot flashes that hit me. Much easier than the "yes you are done with AF..NO you aren't". emoticon

Unlike this group, they're not very welcoming. lol! So far I haven't even gotten one reply to my introduction since yesterday... oh well. I'm afraid it may always be the wrong time of month for them all. lol!

Anyways, my Aunt Flow arrived this morning after all, so I'm not ready for menopause just yet. In the meantime, I'm looking into following the 18 wk. program in the new book "Transformation". It's written by Bill Phillips, who created "Body for Life". Anyone heard of it?

Thanks Kierae, I will read up on it. I think it's a good idea to start incorporating more things next week. Just a little nervous. 1.5 sounds like a good idea. And I do love berries!

Everybody is afraid of introducing grains/fruit back in. The key is to do so very slowly and see how your body reacts. Read up on the hints/tip thread about phase 1.5 which most folks do (ie a slowed down version of p2). There really isn't a good reason to do an extra week- you wont lose any faster, run the risk of boredom, and missing out on some nutrients usually (and not recommended unless you have 100lbs to lose). Personally I recommend starting with a serving of berries (and rest of diet still is p1).

I'm half way through week 2 of phase 1. It's going better than I thought. I am feeling good energywise. I am really glad that I started SB before my son's surgery because he's been eating all kinds of things I choose not to eat because of the phase 1 guidelines (i.e. ice cream, popsicles, mac n cheese, pudding, yoplait, pancakes, etc.) I am getting really nervous about reintroducing some foods next week though. I am tempted to stay on phase 1 for another week.

emoticon I'm back up the 5 lbs. I lost during Phase 1. It most likely is because my TOM is due, but since I've been irregular for the last six months I don't know when AF will arrive. Dang I hate going through peri-menopause!

I just LOVE being unsubscribed to threads - usually happens when I have too much going on at home so I don't notice (until I sit down with coffee and go hmmm). emoticon

I went shopping at the market and picked up a watermelon radish (they are sooo pretty) and a black radish. I haven't had the black before and expected it black (thought it would be cool) but alas, its white inside..lol. Once I finish up my brussel sprout salad (which I LOVE LOVE - if you haven't tried it and like sprouts, you should check it out), I will figure out what to do with the radishes. Thinking something simple like korean style slaw.

Hope your monday is going good (and nice to see the new faces here). emoticon

Good going ladies - good luck with your final P1 weigh ins - I lost 6.2 pounds but this is my second round of SB - I kinda fell off the beach wagon but am back. I do find eating this way is very easy BUT it is also too easy to allow the bad stuff back so I'm being stricter this time and easing back in to grains and fruits.

Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another

Wow!

I guess I may be a little premature since I still have today, but I don't see any reason that I will not have made it through 2 weeks with no flour or sugar and NO CRAVINGS.

I won't know how much weight I have lost all together until Wednesday, but even being down 8 pounds, I feel like getting those foods out of my diet is a bigger accomplishment. I KNOW they were hurting me.

Had a cafe rio salad today and had half of a wheat tortilla with it. I know it wasn't in the plan (today is day 6 of phase 1 for me) but it's the only stray I've had thus far. It didn't make me crave anything thankfully. I do weigh-in tomorrow though for my weekly weigh-in. Hopefully it won't affect that. I kind of wish I hadn't eaten it just so I could say I didn't cheat.

My dentist and I are on a first name basis- ha ha. I have terrible teeth, despite brushing with an ultrasonic toothbrush and flossing twice a day...BUT South Beach helps because you are not exposing your teeth to all that sugar or the starches that tend to stick to your teeth and attract bacteria. Feeling good today!

Good job Shelis10 I hope I have great results like you! I did check the scale this morning and I was down a little but not counting it until Sunday :) Keep it up!

Rosestars, thanks! I need the encouragement! It's scary sending your kid under the knife. And I'm getting ready for sleepless nights.

Awesome on the 8 pounds!!!!!!

Work weary...no exercise today...But, whoa, did my exercise DVDs come in today complete with the weights! Just try to get out of those, Rose emoticon
Will give one a try tomorrow! Will come in handy for the big snowstorm on Friday.. emoticon Meaning, no going to the gym ( hate driving the icy roads) but working out at home. Yes, SB is great for craving control!!!
Christinichka - Aw, will keep a good thought for your little one next week! You both will do great... emoticon Good idea with the planning!
Work weary so heading to bed shortly after I journal and blog. Tomorrow, dentist and tooth filling...AND...AND...I know she is going to evaluate my toothache and insist the needed crown be crowned. Did I mention I hate going to the dentist? emoticon

I'm kind of out of the loop. I've been beaching for the last 10 days (my first time) but I have only interacted with KIERAE and Pam in the questions thread.

...So, hi. Nice to meet you all.

I am doing well with phase 1. I'm down 8 pounds already!

I'm a compulsive eater, so much so that I gained 100 pounds in five years, but so far, this has really helped me maintain control. I never would have thought I could go without my greatest weaknesses sugar and wheat, but look at me go!

Finishing up day 3 of phase 1 today. Yesterday I did have a headache and I do think it was carb related. I ate black beans for dinner and that seemed to help me. Today was much better. This is actually going fairly smoothly for me so far. My challenge is going to be next week. My 4 year old is having a tonsilectomy and since I'm a divorced single mom with no help from my ex I get to be on duty all day and night every day next week. I am trying to prepare literally and mentally. :) I am going to stick to this.

My colon agrees that 1/2 cup of Fiber One is wonderful. It works for me.

Mixed berries will be the very next thing I introduce, as soon as I can get out to pick some frozen ones up at Costco.

I'm looking forward to all your weigh in results tomorrow.

Hmmmmmmm......... maybe I better nix the idea of making healthy cookies. I usually only had one or 2 at most but them I've not had a cookie in a while and can still remember what Oreos are like.

I am very lucky that, most of the time, my co-workers are supportive. They want to be healthier, too. It doesn't hurt to tell them you are struggling and ask them to either bring healthier snacks to work, like chopped veggies, if they can, or to hide sweets. My kids and co-workers quite enjoy hiding the cookies when they have them.

You are experiencing sugar/low carb flu type symptoms which is common. Get in a serving of some kind of beans (black/kidney/lentils, etc) and it will help alot. Also water. It should pass in a day or two otherwise. Regarding the sweets at the workplace, it doesn't sound like that will change. I am assuming someone or several folks bring this in as a treat for fellow coworkers. You will either have to avoid the congregating area, bring your sugar free gum and chew away, or bring your own munchies. Considering you do have two snacks during work hours (mid morn and late afternoon) proudly munch on your healthy snacks. Who knows- you could influence a few coworkers into cleaning up their act!

I am day two into phase 1. I feel pretty good but last night got a mild headache. Has that ever happened to anyone? Is it sugar withdrawal lol?
I was down two pounds water weight this morning! Now that is some motivation!
I am excited for the next 13 days of phase 1 but really nervous too. Especially going back to work on tuesday. There are always cookies and sweets around. Any suggestions?

I'm done with Phase 1 Today! I lost a total of 5 lbs. but more importantly; my cravings are under control, I lost my bloated stomach along with 2" in my waist, plus my energy level has increased enough for me to start working out again on a daily basis. Yippee!

Phase 1.5 here I come with the introduction of 1/2 C. Fiber One Cereal. I know it doesn't sound like much to get excited about, does it?

I've learned from experience that my weight loss continues better with a slow re-introduction of whole grains & fruit.

Anyone else finished with Phase 1 today also?

And now that he is completely mobile....!!!! He wants to do everything walking. I had to teach him to "sit on your bottom" when he is drinking or eating a cracker not as the table.

BTW Robin we are off the mashed potato kick and now back onto sweet potato, apple and chicken puree. Still not big into finger foods unless they are dry and bready. Slimy, sticky or wet ends up on the floor lol.

Your monkey's picture definitely needs updating Amanda - he is such a cutie! Ugh Pam - mine will do that if it get shoved up against the very back of the refrig.

I realized that now that I am almost at the end of phase 1, it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. I miss fruit but I really haven't missed the grains/starch. My weight is in my normal weight loss pattern like before - ie about a pound every two weeks it looks like. This is fine considering it isn't like there is a whole lot there to lose..lol. Still struggling to get back to the gym on a daily basis - between the stupid weather and appointments. It should get closer back to normal now (snow is gone AGAIN) and arm is stronger for driving. Working out at home is okay but just not the same intensity.

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. Agatha Christie

Our stupid fridge froze most of our produce so I've been off the veggie wagon for a few days. Defrosted salad is sooooooo disgusting! LOL The fridge is re-stocked, veggies are shuffled to a higher and warmer shelf, and I'm thinking that if they freeze again I'll just resort to buying frozen veggies until we can get a new fridge.

My son is named "Monkey", too. Actually, its "Monk" now that he's 16. He earned his nickname by climbing a seven foot tall bookshelf -- with a banana in his hand, no less -- when he was two.

HAHA...actually the new baby is 15 months. I really need to update my picture. I just noticed that.

And now comes the end to my mommy time. I hear a monkey bouncing around in his crib!

In true ADD style I am getting to a late start lol. I have no excuse at the moment. I was laid off from my job until march. I knew when I took the job in Nov that it would happen so we were trying to prepare for it. I am looking forward to spending some quality time with the monkey.

So my goal is actually to lose 20 lbs by the time I go back to work. My eating is decent but definitely harder to lose after having the baby. I know I am sorely lacking in exercise so I am ramping that up as I have a lot more free time to work out.

Sounds delicious!

We are are all dressing like ice road truckers here. Fashion went out the window last month.

That does sound yummy! Thanks for sharing. I heart Jamie; he can be one of my brother husbands. ;-)

Well my weight must be down. My favourite lined wool plaid pants from the GAP aren't tight anymore, thank goodness. Next I want them loose so I need a belt. THEN I'll step on the scale.

Speaking of pants, tonight I'm going shopping for snow pants again. Its -40 here (F and C are the same at this temperature) now with wind chill. I really don't want to have to buy ski/snow board pants. $$$$$$$$$$$ I'd settle for something ugly from the second hand thrift shop or even something new and ugly from the farm supply store, but I have my suspicion that, with the weather we've been having, that I'll have no choice but to splurge or stay indoors. Even "the cool kids" are starting to give in and wear warm clothes.

So I tried this recipe the other day:

re
cipes/chicken-in-milk

The only adjustment I made was I used 1 tbsp of butter and used ff milk. It was yummy and made a fantastic soup with the "remnants".

Congrats! If you haven't had your nut serving, you could toast some nuts up that have been dredged in splenda/cinnamon. Sweet and crunchy is a hard combo in phase 1.
