I have been so tired all day today! I decided to check my email and then go to bed. Thursday was quite busy. I am very happy with my hair cut. The students are pretty good. But really the instructors donít let too much go really off plus these are Aveda students and it is really competitive to get in. The last time I went the cut was good but she didnít blow dry it well and used a lot of products. I was so happy to wash my hair a day later.

I got ready for bed yesterday and then the guys for Joshís cousins bachelor party started showing up and I wasnít able to sleep until they all left at 10:30pm and then Josh called to get the address of where they were headed because the limo driver didnít know the location. I finally fell asleep and then they were home around 5am and I got to hear all about the strip club and I wasnít able to go to fall asleep again. Off to work 10-6:30 and now home. Josh is at the rehearsal dinner and I was quite thankful that I was working and didnít have to go. Tomorrow the wedding is at 3pm quite far out in the suburbs and we are spending the night out there.

Slimnana Ė Oh what is this with the bread??? Maybe you could donate some. I actually think I have gotten better haircuts from the students than some salons around the city Ė hopefully my luck lasts. I have been going there for a year. No heat wave here! In the low 60ís and very windy! I shut all the windows, have on long sleeves and am sitting with a blanket! That is a lot of family drama and difficult to keep straight. Have a nice time with the silence! Tuesday will be here soon!

Ladubose Ė I havenít gotten on the scale. My size 8 jeans donít fit and I just know getting on the scale will just make me feel worse on myself so instead of the scale on Mondays I am trying on my jeans! Maybe I can just remove my ticker? I havenít been at my goal weight for the past 3 months. Going back to phase 1 a few weeks ago really helped. I am thinking of doing another phase one week next week too not for the weight loss but because it helps so much with the hunger cravings!

LADUBOSE: Have you been eating more fruit lately? It could be the type of fruit you are having or not eating it along with some protein or dairy.

Hope to see you all back next week on our new Fall thread, ready to tackle our goals. Have a great Labor Day weekend all!

emoticon Hi everyone! I am struggling with big time hunger lately! Usually I rarely, if ever, feel hungry, but for the past few weeks I seem to be starving all the time! I am not sure what is up with that!!! I hope it passes soon as it is really hard for me and I find hunger to be very painful and distressing...

Slimnanna: sounds like a peaceful moment at the lake house, I don't find it hard to believe you wanted to stay! Good job on the dinner choice!

Elizabeth: have you maintained your weight? I lost a few weeks there for awhile and I am not sure if you ticker is up to date or not, it seems like that you were at your goal weight awhile ago....

Hi to everyone else!

Elizabeth, I also wear my hair back in a pony tail most of the time and only get it trimmed twice a year at the most for special occasions, but I'm no where near as brave and trusting as you are to have a student cut & color it. I color it myself at home with Nice n Easy. Hope all goes well and you are happy with the results.

This morning when I went to make coffee, I discovered that my hubby had brought home another 3 loaves of bread last night. I still have the other 6 in the freezer that he bought on Sunday. I plan to bring all the bread up to the lake for the long holiday weekend, so the whole gang that is planning to come can devour it and not me.

I'm ready for a nap this afternoon after having some wine at lunch with MIL. Hold the bread, just pour me some wine please!
emoticon

I hope nobody is too affected from the storms hitting the East Coast over the next couple of days. Stay cool if your having a heat wave too!

Ladubose Ė Donít worry it was only the last hour of class I tried to skip out of and it was music not anything with substance. I too love the rose ceremony! I canít remember is it an all girls school? I am all for you putting yourself first and enjoying some new adventures into finding out what you will direct some of your extra time and energy to now. Yes another wedding! It is either a wedding or a baby shower for most of my friends/relatives. I have tons of basil growing right now but I donít really know what to do with itÖdid you put it fresh on top of the eggs or dried? Wow that is a really great profile pic then!!! Amazing!

Slimnana Ė You beat me yesterday morning. It was too busy to post anything last night and then I saw the email pop up that you had replied to the thread and I couldnít believe it was that late/early already! So happy about the bees being gone and also that nothing was wrong at the cabin. I havenít watch AGT but I did see the little girl on the news!

I am getting my hair cut and dyed this morning. I like to keep it long so I can braid it back but then it doesnít have any style besides pony tail so I chop it off a few times a year. I figure I canít wear it pulled back for the wedding so I am going in today. I go to the Aveda Institute which means students do your hair and it takes about 3 hours but I like the color and I also like the price! Sometimes are better than others but as long as I speak up and tell them I donít like it at all the instructors fix the mistakes the students make it just might end up an inch shorter than I had planned Ė which is fine for me.

The emoticon ceremony is so sweet!

After the exterminator (my DIL's dad) finally came this morning and the grandkids left after noon, I drove up to the lake cottage with my MIL to check on things there. TG everything was fine and the wood carving was still on the wall. The alarm co. did tell me that even a spider or fly could have set off the motion detector, but I had to be sure for myself that everything was in tact. It was so nice and breezy up at the lake after it's been in the mid 90's here all week. I truly hated having to drive back home this evening, but I babysit the grandkids again tomorrow morning.

On the way home we stopped for dinner and I had a salad with balsamic dressing and topped with a piece of salmon. Delish!

Hubby just came down urging me to get off the computer and come to bed. The America's Got Talent top 10 result show is on at 9:00. Has anyone seen and heard the 10 yr. old opera singer from Pittsburgh. She is amazing!!!

Have a good evening all!

Just got home from the girls first day of school. They have what they call a "Red Rose Ceremony" at the beginning and end of every school year. In the beginning of the year they introduce any new faculty, or changes in staff and then they introduce the new senior class, and then the senior class introduces the in coming 1st graders, each child is introduced to the school, the senior walks down and gives the incoming 1st grader a rose and then walks them up to their teacher. After all the kids are seated the 1st grade teacher tells a short story, at the end of the year the 1st graders give the seniors a rose at their graduation. It is always a very touching ceremony. Today though I am more emotional than usual, and was close to tears several times.....

I think this is a big year for me as my daughters are growing up and don't need/want me like they used to....and being a twin mom, it was so intense the first several years that it completely consumed all my energy and focus, it is like I am coming out of a deep haze and looking around and like ""NOW WHAT?" So I really need to focus on myself and creating some healthy habits and passions again!

Sorry for the download!! LOL!!

I just had 1/2 a baguette with tomato, basil, mozzarella & a fried egg for a late breakfast! Very fresh and yummy.

Elizabeth: wow skipping school in 4th grade! Please don't scare me! LOL! I can't imagine my daughters even knowing that is an option, but I could be seriously deluded! So many things I need to start talking to them about but they still seem so young and innocent to me that I don't want to have to introduce things to them that so far they are clueless about...we do live a very sheltered life! Another wedding!

Slimnanna: you always have so much going on with your properties! It must keep you busy, plus the grandkids! I giggled when I thought of you trying to yoga with wasps buzzing around you, hard to get into a meditative mood with that going on! & yep that really is me, THanks for the compliment!~

Lori~ good job on passing the bagels by!

Slimnana - If those exterminators are not there by noon call someone else!! It creeps me out just thinking about it. One summer we lived in a house that had tons of bees and wasps everywhere due to poor insulation of the ventilation areas. I think spiders are worse for me than bees but only one to one. When there are tons of bees I am out of there!

Ladubose - Wow 4th graders! I was supposed to learn how to spell broccoli in the 4th grade but I am a horrid speller. I also tried to skip out of school for the last hour that year too. But I got caught and didn't attempt it again until my senior year of HS (which I also got caught doing!) Oh well - lol! I hope you get off to a great start this year! Exciting about your ski passes too!

Lori - Way to survive the bagels.

It is raining today - yuck. Tuna burgers for breakfast yesterday and maybe some oatmeal today. I had to drop the dress I am supposed to wear to the wedding on Saturday at the dry cleaners because when I tried it on last night I noticed 3 spots! I won't know the results until Friday night either! Oh well maybe the spots will just lighten enough to not be noticeable.

Thanks for sharing. I had no idea that kids are doing such deep meaning productions in elementary school these days. An ice cream social was the highlight of the year a couple of decades ago when my kids were that age. lol!

I'm staring at a cement truck on my front lawn right now. After a year of delays we are finally getting our circular driveway installed. My neighbors love us!

The grandkids will be here in about 45 min. and I need to go kill some yellow jackets in the family room. Still hoping the exterminator shows up today...

Have a great day all!

The girls school celebrates Michaelmass with a big production. The 4th grade class is the dragon, which they have an amazing elaborate dragon that all the 4th grade is in, and it is about 20 feet long, the 5th graders are fighting the dragon, and St. Michael comes on a horse and defeats the dragon. It is all about conquering our inner demons, fears, blocks and letting go of the things that are preventing us being our true selves in this life....it is a whole big production and during the month of September a lot of energy is put into this festival. I love it!

LADUBOSE what's the big Michaelmass ceremony? I feel so out of the loop on things lately. I'm back to listening to sesame street and the mickey mouse club these days.

Of course you're not dreading winter, since you live in a ski paradise up there in the Colorado mountains.

Hey just checking in! My weight is holding steady, but time to get it moving down ward again! My girls start school tomorrow! 4th Grade!!! Wow time is sure flying by! I got ski passes yesterday for the family, so I am not actually dreading winter, although I sure can wait a few more months before the snow begins to fly!

September is always a busy month, with school starting, the girls B-day on the 24th, and lots of activities at school. Mainly the big Michaelmass ceremony which is one of my favorites, and then right into halloween, thanksgiving, Xmass and the end of the year! YIKES!!

Lori-glad to hear you are doing well so far during your first week back to work! Terrific job passing on the bagels, and your evening yogurt snack sounds delicious. Yum!

I am just beginning to deal with menopause issues myself. My AF is due today, but I am clueless as to when and if it will actually arrive given the irregularity of my cycle over the last couple of months. God's little practical joke on us women....thanks to Eve. lol!

Have a great day!

P.S. I'm still waiting to hear from the exterminator about coming today, so I most likely won't be going up to the lake cottage after all. I'll be babysitting my 3 yr. & 17 month old grandkids here in the morning, so I am really hoping that all the yellow jackets are dead and gone by then.

Hi girls- well I am back to work. On my lunch and so far doing okay with the stress eating. I walked right by the bagels that were out this morning.

My goal is that by the end of November- I am in a size 10. I want to maintain this through the holidays and then be a size 8 by spring.

I am fighting menopause- just got my period after 4 months of nothing. I am eating mini meals with my dinner being salad and protein. Big greek yogurt parfay at night with a drizzle of OJ, cut strawberries and a sprinkling of raisins and walnuts (1tbs each).

Elizabeth: I like the idea of having an emphasis on autumn for our next thread, and then just staying with that through the holiday season to the end of the year. Even the sight of the word winter is sending shivers down my spine! Then we can hopefully be ringing in next new year together maintaining a size 8. Which seems to be a challenging enough goal for me right now to commit to. We can do it!

Glad to see that your not being as hard on yourself as your friend. You've been dealing with a lot of life stressors lately with Josh's unemployment etc. There's nothing to be gained (but weight) sweating the small stuff!

Today is a grandkidless day for me, so I'm taking my MIL up to the lake cottage to check on things. We had a call from the alarm system the other day that it was going off, and ever since I've been concerned that a very heavy wood carving of a covered bridge that we just hung up last time we were there, may have broke free from the wall and came crashing down setting off the motion detector.

I'm just waiting to hear back from the exterminator to see if he is coming by today to bomb a yellow jacket nest that we have recently discovered in our attic. Two days ago my hubby noticed the light fixture in our upstairs shower was filled with dead ones and I've already killed a dozen flying around downstairs since then. After my reaction to the one sting I got last month, I am trying not to freak out right now. I want to get out of the house until after they are all killed but I am the one who needs to be here for the exterminator to get in.

I've already had to kill 5 this morning that were flying around while I was doing yoga. What a nightmare!

Hopefully you have a much better day than I am so far having. Talk to you soon!

Slimnana Ė I really liked yesterdayís statement about taking one day at a time. I have been so self centered and have spent the majority of my summer unhealthy! But one day at a time is just what I need to focus on Ė doing what I can. It is ok if I canít see light at the end of the tunnel. I even forgot my friendís wedding anniversary and she was bummed that I hadnít sent a card Ė of course she didnít even give me one day of grace period but still I felt bad!
But like you said no need to beat ourselves anymore and just move on to the next day!

I think we should just name the tread until the end of the year? It will be here so quick. But please no mentioning winter! Yuck, yuck yuck!

Ladubose Ė I havenít been the extreme planner in months and I need to get back to setting out how I am going to achieve my goals. Right now I am working on fitting in to my size 8 jeans by Halloween but I havenít set an action plan yet.

Lori Ė Hope you survived your first day back!!

LADUBOSE is it really you? If so, that is so cool!!! You and the view look amazing!

I totally blew it tonight at my son's 32nd birthday party. Not only did I have ice cream cake, but also 2 slices of spinach feta pizza! Ugh. I am actually feeling sick to my stomach and it's not just because I have an almost middle aged son either. lol!
emoticon

It most definitely was not a good way to start the week before Labor Day off. Oh well, there's no point in beating myself up over it after the fact. I should be able to recover again by the weekend if I get right back on track tomorrow.

I'm incredibly inspired by your goals for this fall. I'll definitely be sticking with Yoga & SB WOE as my foundation and I will begin incorporating pilates mat exercises. I'm going to have to give more thought and planning to what strength training & cardio that I'll be adding to that over time. I'm thinking that I may try some kettle bell workout dvds that I have or even Jillian Michaels. Yikes she scares me!

At this point in my weight loss journey, I could be very content weighing 145 and maintaining that through the winter. I'll give it some more thought this week, and change my ticker again once our new thread (which I'm not sure what we should call yet) begins next week.

Keep in touch!

Hey everyone! Just caught up on the threads. Seems like a lot of activity happening.

My girls start school this Wed., only a half day, thursday is early pick up at 2 pm, and then a full day on Friday, then Monday is a holiday! Part of me is like why bother??? But I guess it breaks them in slowly and then they can hit the ground running next tuesday.

I am ready at this point for the summer to be over and to settle down into a new school year. I am looking forward to the routine. I am also planning on hitting the fall hard with diet and try to lose 8- 10lbs by Turkey day (12 weeks) so it will give me some wiggle room over the holidays.

What are everyone else's plans/goals/aspirations? What are your specific plans to meet your goals?

Elizabeth emoticon emoticon 16 miles is emoticon

My MIL is still sleeping, so I figured I would hop online to say hi while I can. I'm counting down the minutes until 7:30 to have my first cup of coffee. Out of habit I made it first thing this morning and the smell of it being done is driving me nuts.
emoticon

I'll be babysitting the little guy today and celebrating my oldest son's birthday later this evening. Most likely I'll be having a taste of cake. It's not really one of my favorites anyway.

Any ideas for what we should name our autumn thread??

I can't believe Turkey Day is only 12 wks. away and the end of the year only 16!!! This year seems to have just flown by!

Keep on keeping on all.

P.S. I forgot to mention that hubby brought home six loaves of different kinds of bread from the market yesterday!!!

Thanks Elizabeth. It is 6:30 AM and I am officially up and getting ready for school. Back to being organized or else I am starving and will eat anything I see.

I live on Greek yogurt as well. I pour a little orange juice in it with some walnuts and it is delicious. This has been my breakfast for many mornings but now I think I need to hold off on this and delay my calcium until later.

Have a great day everyone!! Lori

I donít eat yogurt as much as I used to. I really like Greek yogurt with honey but then I tend to go overboard with the honey so I stopped eating it. Breakfast is either a packaged Indian meal of lentils and kidney beans with a hard boiled egg or another type of egg breakfast.

The bike ride was great yesterday. It was pretty warm but it was fine unless we stopped riding. We went 16 miles at a leisurely pace. My friend and I chatted along the whole way. I did have a banana and a baby muffin at the rest stop and afterwards there was a nice picnic lunch with either BBQ pork (but I donít eat pork) so I had the falafel which was ok. I wouldíve been happy just skipping lunch and going home because I was getting tired and needed some sleep but my friend was just enjoying the day so we stayed and ate.

Lori Ė Good luck with school this week!

I do yogurt and fruit for my evening snack on a fairly regular basis. It gives me the protein I need to carry me thru the night since my breakfast eat time can vary from early till 10am.

Lori, if having yogurt or cheese for breakfast won't fit in with your time schedule because of work, then maybe you can still have it for your mid morning snack instead.

I am so happy to be part of this thread- thanks again for the invite. I am going to stop having yogurt or cheese for breakfast- that is my staple in the AM so it will be hard. I'll wait until later in the day. Today was a quick run out the door to church so all I had was a handful of almonds. I'm starving!!

I am right there with you slimnana- I have had it with the BBQ's as well- ready for some harvest treats and decorating. Off for a walk before it gets too hot- about 92 expected today...fall is not here yet!!

Lori, I definitely got my exercise in at the picnic and my eating was good. I'm pretty much burnt out on barbecue foods by now, so they aren't very tempting to me anymore. If I don't see another hot dog, baked beans or potato salad until next summer then I wouldn't mind in the least. Luckily for me someone brought along store bought fried chicken, so I just peeled the yucky crust off a breast and ate that, along with some baby carrots and a delicious tomato, onion and feta cheese salad.

The pavilion was situated at the top of a big grassy hill and all the kids spent the whole time running up and down it, which of course meant the 17 month old wanted to do so too. Except he was wearing baby flip flops (some idiot thought of creating) and kept tipping over head first and receiving a mouthful of grass . That meant I spent a lot of time attempting to hold onto his had as he ran down or chasing after him, and then carrying him back up most of the way to keep up with the bigger kids. Needless to say that my hip was killing me all night and I got very little sleep from tossing and turning.

Of course that meant I woke up this morning later than usual at 8:00 and took my synthroid. So after I have my much needed coffee now, I am going to make sure and do some yoga before going to church.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Elizabeth emoticon for your professional opinion on the best way to take synthroid and have a blast on your ride.

Have a great start to a new week and keep on keeping on everybody!!

You guys didnít need me at all for the Synthroid. Great research though! That is the key to being a pharmacist Ė being quick and accurate when looking things up! My mom is on synthroid and I have her turn off her alarm clock and take her synthroid right away. That way she is getting ready for 30 minutes before grabbing her coffee. You are right about the yogurt/calcium. It is best to wait as long as possible.

My friend and I are doing an organized bike ride this morning. Boulevard Lakefront Tour which is either 16, 32 or 62 miles. We are just going to go 16 miles because I am heading over there from work and I canít be out all day because I have to get some sleep. It starts less than a mile from home which is great.

I enjoy getting to read all the chatting you are doing!
Slimnana Ė That is bad about having an OCD MIL!!! That canít be good!

It certainly can't hurt, right? Like everything else it seems that consistency is what matters the most. The best results come from taking it the same time of day in the same way every day. Who knows just a small change may actually make a big difference in helping us in the long run on this weight loss/maintenance journey we're on. It's worth a try anyway.

Starting tomorrow I guess I will begin taking my Synthroid without coffee. Ignorance is bliss, but maybe if it is interfering with my absorption as much as 25%-57%, then it will be just the thing I need to rev up my sluggish metabolism again.

One can only hope! Have a good evening and I'll check in with you while having my coffee. A little later than usual. lol!

Lori before I forget, the Synthroid.com website states "Take Synthroid as a single dose, preferably on an empty stomach, one-half to one hour before breakfast." So, I guess we are both right!

For my first meal of the day I usually have yogurt, so I think because of the calcium in it and how that can intefer with the absorption of the synthroid that it is better that I wait the hour. The same would be true if and when I choose to have cheese with eggs etc.

Also fiber is known to cause malabsorption: so same goes when I have a high fiber breakfast (fiber one cereal) with yogurt or milk.

P.S. I also just read that taking the meds. at night instead of in the morning can have the negative side effect of insomnia, which I definitely don't need anymore of that's for sure.

LADUBOSE emoticon emoticon emoticon on getting your weight back down! I missed you and I'm glad to hear you got back on track after returning from your vacation!

It seems we all started regaining back in April and had been struggling ever since, up until this month that is. Let's keep it up (our successful weight loss) or down (our weight) and stay in touch throughout the fall/winter months. Take care!

P.S. When I first came across my new profile photo I immediately thought of you doing Pilates in the Colorado Rockies. So Heavenly!

Hi everyone! I have been missing for awhile! I was out of town for two weeks and since I have been home our internet has been down and we haven't been able to fix it yet. We have internet at our satellite tower but not at our house and that could be several things. My DH is working on it when he gets a chance, but hasn't had much time to dedicate to figuring it out, so I am out of luck for now.

I did gain some water weight over my two weeks in the South, but have lost all of it since I have been back. I am finally down to my lowest weight in March! emoticon So I am excited about that and will consider that my goal for met by labor day!!

Hopefully I will be able to stay in better connection with all of you soon, I have really missed ya'll and hope all is well and everyone is making progress in their goals!

Attention Thyroid Patients: Coffee Can Interfere With Thyroid Medication Absorption
(Wednesday September 3, 2008)
Attention thyroid patients: your morning coffee may be interfering with proper absorption of your thyroid medication. I know, say it isn't so! You're already tired from being hypothyroid -- now they want to take away your coffee?
The findings were reported in a recent article in the journal Thyroid. What the researchers found is that in addition to some of the more commonly known issues with absorption of thyroid hormone (i.e., calcium, iron, and food taken at the same time as thyroid medication can interfere with absorption), coffee also interferes with the intestinal absorption of levothyroxine. In the study, patients took their levothyroxine (i.e., Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Unithroid), with espresso or coffee, and researchers found that the coffee/espresso reduced the rise of the T4 after taking the medication by at least 25% to as much as 57%.

What Should You Do?

At this point, the evidence is strong enough to suggest that you should not take your thyroid hormone replacement medication with coffee. Ideally, take your thyroid medication, and wait an hour before you have your coffee.

If that's not possible, then you may want to talk to your doctor about taking your levothyroxine medication at night. Not only has it been shown in some studies to improve absorption, but it also is easier to take your medication at night, and avoid any impact from food, supplements -- or a cup of coffee -- taken in the morning.

Yes I take 150 mcg. of synthroid. Unless they have changed it in the last 7 years that I've been taking it, I think I was told to wait an hour before eating. Now I'm curious which is correct, so I'm going to go search Mary Shomon's About.com sight.

Elizabeth the pharmacist would know for sure though, but she may be away from the computer for the weekend and I can't wait for an answer.

I'll be back to let you know what I find out unless you beat me to it.

Each generation seems to be getting their priorities more straight. Less about keeping a perfect house with roped off living rooms and plastic on the furniture (yes she did) and more about spending quality time with the kids. TG!

The sun is now blazing hot on the flower beds, so I am done with the yard work for the day. Time for me to get a shower and figure out what I am going to eat for brunch (since I haven't had breakfast yet). I know bad me, but by the time I wait an hour after taking my hypothryoid meds. with coffee, I wind up getting busy and forget to eat until close to lunch time. A bad habit that I'm still working on changing. It's true what they say about how hard it is to teach an old dog new tricks.

Good Morning Lori,

It's nice blue skies with crisp autumn like temps. here also. Fall is my second favorite season after Spring. Before it heats up, I have a few more brown wilted day lilies to clean up in my front yard flower bed. My oldest son just called to invite me to their church picnic with his wife & kids later this afternoon. So I'd better finish up my coffee, get offline and go get dressed already.

I think I may just have to skip ironing the guest room sheets for my MIL for now and wait until later to stop & pick up that case of wine on my way home from the church picnic. She isn't due to arrive until after 6:00 this evening, so I can always get around to the neurotic ironing of sheets after I have a glass of wine--or not. lol!

Have a great day!

Good morning girls!

It is going to be a beautiful day here in Ct and then the heat returns- back to the 90's. I'm done with summer- fall is my favorite season. I just love it! I'm off for a walk and then going to hit the farm stand. I'm feeling the back-to-school pressure- thinking of all the things that I didn't get done this summer

Elizabeth: 100 times worse!!! My MIL is so OCD that she can't go to sleep at night unless all her kitchen table chairs are angled in a particular way that she needs them to be. (slightly tilted inward towards each other) Luckily I have a round table in my kitchen. lol!

I'm going right out first thing this morning to stock up on a case of wine!
emoticon

After doing some searching on the web yesterday, I think my profile photo was taken in British Columbia and that the Nana in the commercial may actually have brown hair. One thing for sure is if she was actually a Nana chasing after 4 grandkids that are 5 yrs. old and under like me, she'd most definitely have grey hair and be stuffing handfuls of goldfish crackers in her face from time to time too. lol!

Thanks for your encouraging words as always. I will be sure to update you on how things are going while my MIL is visiting over the next week. I so much want to be back under 155 and closer to my goal by Labor Day weekend too! I think I may just do another week of P1 food, but include wine for my sanity.
That sounds like a good survival strategy to me.

In the meantime I better go iron the guest room sheets. lol!

Have a great weekend!

Slimnana Ė Yikes, you just had your mom visiting and now your MIL Ė do you feel the same pressure/urge to clean when it is just your MIL or is it a worse feeling? Well just think how great you did at the breakfast dinner party Ė I think you can just take that energy and good feelings and make it through to Labor Day successfully. That is sure a long time for her to stay!!!

Thanks for the kind words about Joshís job hunting.
I figured that they had to give the actress grey hair in order to convince viewers that she is a nana : )

Lori Ė Glad you joined us! I live downtown Chicago and work the night shift as a hospital pharmacist. I have been pretty down/depressed all summer and havenít gotten on the scale because I donít want any trigger to feel any worseÖso I have just been trying on my jeans that fit in April instead. My mom does birth to 3 home visits for the ISD and she is getting ready for back to school too. Its worse this year because she almost retired in May but instead will be working 1-2 more years because my dad retired this spring and she wasnít quite ready to give up a steady income.

Do you enjoy cooking? I am always looking for recipes that tasty and not too complicated. What are your daily staples when it comes to eating?

Its just taken me the last two weeks to lose the 5 lbs. that I gained while my mom was recently here for 10 days. This is not good news at all!

My survival plan is to stress clean and drink wine, rather than over eat! Cheers!

I used to spend my summers as a girl with my grandparents in Rocky Point. I love Long Island and don't get back out there near enough!!

I remember those potato farms as well- when we were kids we would groan as we passed some of the fields complaining of the smell--I can't remember if those were the potato farms?? Maybe they were the cabbage! lol

I drove around to the Hamptons once with friends and thought...never again!! That traffic is terrible. The other time I went over the the Hamptons I just took the shuttle boat from Greenport to Sag Harbor to the Hamptons- so much easier.

I have my sister's two boys (5 and 10) and my ten year old son today while my sister works- time to get out and enjoy the day!! Lori

Thanks Lori, but I've been pretty much going up and down the same 5 lbs. since April. I know the struggle of the weight roller coaster ride all too well.

I was born and raised on the north shore of LI in the small harbor village of Northport. A few years ago we actually rented a house for a week in Southold, so the guys could go fishing at Orient Point. As a native LI girl, I much prefer the laid back atmosphere of the villages on the Northfork compared to the ritzy Hamptons. I remember when most of out east was potato farms. Now there are wine vineyards. It's still a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there with all the traffic and high cost of living.

Gotta run. My 1 yr. old grandson is here for me to babysit this morning.

Have a great weekend!

Elizabeth: I only wish that was me in my new profile photo. lol! I was searching for some inspiration to take me through the upcoming fall/winter months when I discovered it. It reminded me of my ticker and I loved it so much that I did my whole page over using it. Have you checked out the larger version? It's heavenly! I'll have to check out where it was taken and get back to you on that.

All the sweets at that dinner were provided by the other set of grandparents. They are constantly treating the grandkids with donuts, where I prefer to give them cheese sticks. lol!

Great job on resisting the cake at work! I got so sick of all the cake and donuts that use to be around the medical office that I use to work in.
I think it is common that people in the medical profession eat sweets out of stress. I know my hubby does and every nurse I ever met too.

I think size 8 is perfect! Do you know the average American woman is a size 14!! I'll be happy wearing a size 8 from now on myself. That's what I am at 155 - 150 and I am 5'6". If I remember correctly, you are taller than that right?

You are so right about how the irregularity of the early signs of menopause throws me off balance. I use to be so regular with only a few days of PMS. Now symptoms of bloat and carb cravings seem to go on for weeks instead of days.

Oh yea. I have seen that commercial and I can totally relate to it, except for the grey hair that I think she has. lol! You know it's the short term memory that's the first to go. lol!

I better get offline, since the little guy will be here any minute.

I'm back to add that I hope all goes well for Josh and his job hunting. I know how stressful that can be. My hubby returned back to school after we already had two kids during the recession of 1982 to start a new career in medicine. God willing, this too shall pass and you'll live happily ever after! In the meantime I'll keep you in my prayers.

Have a great weekend tweaking your food plan in anyway you need to, to keep making it work for you!

Slimnana- congrats on your weight loss...I lost about 10 and gained it back this summer (which I do every summer- I think it is because I go from 60 mph to about 0) I totally relax and cook and read and walk and drink some Pinot and eat some icecream...I go back to school every year 10lbs heavier!!

I miss Kathryn too and know she will be back- in the meantime, it is so sweet of you both to invite me to join you here. I am really appreciative and ready to get back to losing!

Where in LI are you from? My family has a house in Southold ...down by Orient Point. I love it there- so peaceful!
