Hi Ladies,
I'm new!

I feel like I don't know how to plan that far out, but I will try.

My goal is to lose 6 pounds.

I plan to log everything and not miss one day.
I am trying to build this accountability habit.
I plan to exercise at least 4 times per week.

I am at the tail end of a challenge with my family, so this comes at a great time.

My goal is to stick with what I have been doing and to continue to increase intensity. I have set a goal of doing a 5K in April -- probably running half and walking half. Hence I need to amp up the intensity of my cardio. Walking isn't going to cut it.

How? Since it's winter here and I still feel self-conscious about running in public, I will drag out the treadmill and do some light jogging on that a few days a week, unless I can run at night after work.

I do plan to take a recovery week between Christmas and New Year's when I won't completely abandon my new habits, but be a tad less vigilant. I will have been practicing my new lifestyle for 3 months by then.

My goal is to make it to the gym at least four days a week, start a simple yoga and meditation practice at home that I do on a daily basis, and to spend more time with family and friends.

My goal is to maintain in the "150's" range for the long term. I PLAN to hover at 155 by March 2013. (meaning a 2# variance up or down)
After an upswing in Sept/Oct. the gym scale once again dropped back down into the 150's tonight. If I can maintain this through the winter (my toughest time of year!), I will be able to set habits in thought and action that can work with me from here on forward!

My goals are to eat clean and exercise - if I do these two things honestly, the weight will come off. I damaged my rotator cuff on my right shoulder and have not been able to lift weights since the middle of May. I can really see the deterioration of muscle mass, which is frustrating. However, I will have to be patient until the doctor releases me and then add weight slowly.

My goal is to lose weight every week, instead of losing for 2 weeks in the month and stalling the next two (I blame changing hormones and just have to figure out how to adjust my plan to compensate for that).

In April I lost another 1kg(2lbs) and 5cm(2inches) from my belly. My goal is to keep going with this loss for as long as possible until I have lost enough weight to be within normal range for my height!

My goal is 1 to 2 pounds a week to start.

My major goal is to stay focused on me/take the time for me and track everything that I eat without losing sight of my weight loss and physically fit goals.

LOURDES_LCB : You could pack a healthy snack and reach for it when you feel like going for the chips. If that does not help buy a small bag instead of a large one and bring it for your snack and include the calories in your daily intake. I find that drinking water keeps me full and no room for un planned snacks.
Good luck and You can beat the craving.

I am on a new project as far as food is concerned. I have set a budget for our weekly food. I know that we can stay within this and eat healthy. It will be less meats and more protien from other sources. I have the recipes pulled for the next two weeks. Hubby told me this would not work and I advise, him it would be that he did not like the menu. I know that we acutally eat too much meat so I am limiting that at our meals. I went to the market and got fresh veggies and fruits. My Mother made great meals for us on a very limited budget and we ate healthy and it was good. I did not gain weight when living at home, only when I started working and got my own apartment. I helped keep the fast food joints in business and my butt showed it .

Keep on track

Does that fudge have milk in it? Sound delicious and I am glad that you are not feeling guilty about it as that would defeat the purpose of living and loving life. it is snowing here and the University just announced that they are closed for the day. I am already here with lab work so I will work till I am done then then try to drive through the snow again.
this spring challenge I will try to use to increase my ST exercises. I am good with cardio but not fond of ST so I will try to work on that aspect.
The reason I went for bread as something to give up for lent is because I think I am addicted to it, I was eating more that the 6 serving recommended and since I do not do pop or chocolate, I decided to give up bread for the lent season. I am finding other grains interesting.
Have a great day every one.

Wow, sugar is hard but I think I would have to give up on the bread thing! I do love my bread!!! Green tea is a great way to help you resist temptation, it does help me.

Tomorrow is the last day of this challenge officially but if you are still working on your goals do come here to keep us all posted on your progress!

I really blew it last night, had a McDonald's hot fudge sundae, it was so good I don't feel particularly guilty right now. I am mostly doing pretty well so I am not too unhappy. I bought dark chocolate for my mom and white chocolate for my husband and have not touched either one!

Good for you Fran with the sugar. When one cuts out too much too quickly the body goes on strike and one feels defeated. so one thing at a time.
I am on day six without bread. evenings are still full of temptation but green tea and water are keeping me on target ( 34 days to go).

Barb, baby steps is what works best. If you try for too much all at once it can definitely get overwhelming!

I did okay on my sugar challenge. I have to say that I have definitely cut back on sugar a lot since I started this!

GARVCO - I do wish you luck! Those are great, achievable goals. I have also been away from Spark for quite some time and just trying to get motivated again. I have set these simple goals for myself at this time:

1. Track what I eat (head out of the sand!)
2. Drink 8 glasses of water (I used to do this daily, but lately I don't drink more than 2)
3. Follow through with physical therapy exercises as recommended by my therapist until I can do more (I have a hip injury)

I hope to make these goals more ambitious in the near future - but for now I am looking for "baby steps" to get me back on track. I'm glad for the support & tools I know I can find here.

GARVCO, those sound like really good goals. It is not a bad thing to have larger goals but they can seem so unattainable. It is easier to break it up into manageable pieces!

It has been a while since I have been active with SP - returning again and have some mini-goals in mind. I am trying to write down and follow through with 3 achievable tasks per day. I am trying to stay away from goals such as - " I am going to get organized this spring." Yesterday I batted 1000 so I hope to follow through again today - my 3 for today?

1. compile tax information
2. clean hall bathroom for weekend guests
3. prime another wall of wainscot in girls' bathroom

Wish me luck!

I finally made the Slow Cooker Chicken Stew on Saturday. It was tasty. I had to add salt to mine. I had 1 serving on Saturday and my friend had 2 bowls full. I had it again on Sunday and then put the rest in the freezer for my Mom. She still didn't want me coming over because I am still sick. I can't seem to shake this. I went to the Dr. on Friday and he said to finish the cough medicine, stay away from crowds, and I have to go back on Wednesday. Now I have a runny, congested nose. I already went through a box of Puffs Plus and I look like Rudolf.

I came home from the hospital late this morning. I had a good nap and awoke starving. I had a serving of that Tuna Casserole, 1/2 med cucumber with salt on it and a glass of water. The Dr said to avoid milk because of the cold. The tuna casserole was very good. I packed up 2 servings for my Mom and kept another for me to eat later in the week. I took the chicken breasts out of the freezer to make the stew tomorrow. If I didn't promise my Mom that I would really like some soup. I opened a can of Progresso for dinner It's pretty good and only 100 calories. Well back to bed Thanks for all the well wishes. I am beat.

I made Tuna Casserole last night. I was going to eat it for dinner today but ended up in the hospital. This cold I have been battling for the last week turned into pneumonia. I was running 102.8 fever last night and my friend took me to the ER. They kept me because the fever was high and I have had it for more than 4 days. I will be going home tomorrow so I can get some rest. Hospitals are the worst place to get any sleep.

I am going to make Slow Cooker Chicken Stew before the weekend. I will let you know how both turned out.

So far I made muffins, they came out good, the Tuna Casserole, it smelled good, and I will make the Chicken Stew. Not too bad.

IAMAGEMLOVER.....you will be fine! Have some confidence in yourself! Make the recipe early in the week and if it doesn`t turn out the way you think it should, you will have time to make it again. You can do it! And after that, maybe the next weekend you can make something and surprise her...don`t even tell her, just take it on over. You will be bragged about in no time if you keep tempting her with your good food! Let me know how you do! If you need cooking help, let me know too.

I have my cookbook, I have my groceries and tomorrow I am picking up my slow cooker. I made muffins and shared them with my landlords. She is 92 and he is 91. They treat me like I am one of the family.

I was going through the cookbook today and found Chicken Stew. My Mom had this at the casino with my sister and she has wanted the recipe since. I told her I would google it but never did. When I ever called her again today to tell her it was in the sparkpeople cookbook, the one she didn't want me to buy, she was giddy with happiness. Oh I want that recipe she said. I couldn't help it, I said oh you mean from the book you didn't want me to buy? Don't be difficult it's my birthday she told me. Send it to me. We are both poor and have to watch our gas so we don't see each other too often. I told her I would do one better than that, I would make it and bring it to her on the weekend. I am now the favorite child. Finally after all these years, I am the favorite. emoticon I am #1 You are no longer #1 Michael. No, all kidding aside, she was very happy. So now I am nervous. This is the first time I have made anything in a good many years especially for my Mom. What if it comes out yucky? What if it's not as good as she had down at the casino. Did I forget to mention that she is very critical, love her to pieces, best Mom ever, bet she is negative and critical. I think she just always wants us to improve, but it does a job on your self esteem. I really have butterflies in my stomach and I wish I never said anything to her. I think I am going to be sick. If I follow the recipe it has to come out good, right? I feel like a bride cooking her first meal for her husband. I'm scared, me and my big mouth.

Haven't done so well this week, but I have lost another pound!

Keep focussed everyone! I need your positive input to keep me going. (Sorry if that sounds selfish, but I really do need you all!)

I'm new here, but Frannie suggested on the Feb. chat that we could still join, so...

My goal is to keep eating in the way that I have been in January. I'm loosely following Dr. Mark Hyman's UltraMetabolism plan. I'm finding that my body is responding really well. I have a couple of food sensitivities, so this is helping from that end, as well. Basically, I'm trying to eat mostly fruits and veggies, with beans and fish, along with some small amounts of eggs and other meats and just a tiny bit of sugar each day (ie. 1 small square of chocolate after dinner or the equivalent). It's been great so far, and I'd love to see where it goes.

I picked up my cookbook last Monday. I did make a shopping list for the recipes that I want to make. I was suppose to do that shopping today with my chore person, but they have cancelled. I hate when that happens. Now I am going to have to do it tomorrow with my homemaker and do a lighter shopping. They have the chore person do the shopping because the groceries have to be carried up three flights of stair. Plus the 24 pack of water is on sale but you have to buy 3. You know Ellen and I won't get those up the sales. The agencies response is buy them next week. Sure are you going to pay the non sale price?

I am still hoping to get the meats to do my cooking this weekend. I will post what I make and how I liked it. I am sure getting off to a slow start.

Have been away for 5days - got back yesterday and hopped on the scale - wow! what a surprise - I have lost 2.5lbs. I thought for sure I would have gained. I ate pretty well, but slipped a few times in the evenings. I am backon track now with no evening snacking. I just have to keep it up.

Yay!

I did good until the weekend getting in 32 oz water every day. Don't know what happened, unless the old saying "out of sight out of mind" was at play. I didn't have my water bottle out where I could see it (was packed in my lunch bag I take to work) and I didn't drink water on Friday or Saturday.

Back on track now though.

I HAVE TO REMEMBER TO NOT PACK MY WATER BOTTLE IN MY LUNCH BAG! emoticon

Okay, my goal has been to cut back on sugar. In the meantime my mom is bored so she spent the weekend baking brownies and cookies!!!!! It has been an uphill battle but each day is a new one so I am still working at this.

So far so good! I have gotten 4 cups of water down every day. I find that it goes down better with a straw and at room temperature. A co-worker suggested trying the MIO also, but does anyone know if the MIO has caffeine? I can't tolerate caffeine.

Thanks!

Well I have set a new goal for myself. I have a seasonal job and I do not eat right during this time. As a matter of fact I do not eat enough as I do not have time to sit down and eat a proper meal. I have purchased a large container of Greek yogart and I spoon some into a small dish and add some fresh fruit for my morning snack after I get there. I purchased about 8 oz of walnuts. I have packed them in small baggies, about 8 halves each for a quick little pick me up. I also have presliced apples and put about six pieces in another baggy each day. Everyone else is eating junk and fast food. I figure I can run back and take 5 to 10 minutes when we are not busy and eat on my snacks. Last year, I would go days without eating and that is not good. Next week I am going to boil some eggs to take. That is a quick and healthy snack

Keep on track

All I`ve managed to do is get 3 glasses of water in me along with the other things I drink...decaf and milk. I struggle but it has shown me that it will help me lose weight...already lost a pound if I can keep it off!

How are we all doing? It is not important that we be perfect from the very beginning, after all, this is a goal we are reaching for so you will probably have some missteps. Accept that and then just keep moving forward. Even if you take 2 steps back and only one forward, you have moved forward. Don't beat yourself up over the 2 steps back just know that you can keep going forward!

Still keeping those goals in the forefront. I went to the movies with my daughter yesterday and YES, I had my box of candy. But, with all of the uncertainty about my health, I am okay with it. Plus, like Frannie says: just keep on going. Want to have a good week. Glad to have been off from school for MLK Day...got loads of laundry done! Hope everyone has a great week!

This is a day the Lord has made, I WILL rejoice and be glad in it!

Been a long time since I was active on this team. A lot has happened in that time and I'm back to square one.
Tulipvic, my sister finds it easier to drink water through a straw. I don't know if that would help you, but you could try.

1. My goal is to be getting 30 minutes of cardio at least 4 days a week by the end of February.
2. I have started doing Leslie Sansone workouts. I need to ask for help when I slack off. Seems like I'll start out great and then I let other things get in my way. I've also talked to my sister about getting started walking again.

My goal is to stop snacking in the evenings. If I can achieve this, I am sure that I can lose at least 10lbs by the end of February I have had a problem with tis for several years now and am finding it really hard. HOWEVR, I am going to DO IT this time. I plan to find other things to do with my time, like painting or embroidery. I have had this problem since I had a stroke and lost my ability to read or do any sort of close work. My eyesight is no longer a problem, so I must readjust my thinking and get back into some of the activities I used to enjoy. If my mind and hands are busy, I will not feel the need to eat.

Iamagemlover....no haven`t tried Mia flavorings yet but I am tempted...it`s just that they seem expensive. I might try them yet, though. It`s awfully cold and snowy out and I don`t like drinking anything cold because it makes me really really cold, so I have only had decaf today. I know, BAD ME! Does decaf count? I sometimes drink hot water and that helps.

You can post daily or weekly. I want this to be very flexible so that it works for the widest number of people. I am not good about posting daily but if I can post less often I tend to do better. Some people need to be able to keep track daily.

Cream soups are usually very fattening but you can reduce that some. If you use skim milk instead of cream or half and half that helps. You can puree the vegetables to make it a bit thicker too.

Saute a bit of garlic, celery and onions with a tiny bit of olive oil or canola oil. You can use a spray but I find it just doesn't work as well, add the cauliflower and some chicken broth or veggie broth instead of the creams and such. Use a low sodium, low fat broth. Cook until cauliflower is tender. At this point you will want to add the milk and maybe some dijon mustard or honey mustard, that is according to your taste. I might also add a bit of hot sauce, a little nutmeg, or whatever seasoning and herbs you like. Just before you serve it either puree it a little with an emersion blender or put some of it in a blender or food processor and puree it then put it back into the soup. this way you can add less of the dairy. You could add a bit of cheese also, use a very strong sharp cheese so you need less. Parmesan cheese is really good for that. Top with some chives or green onions and it should be pretty good. Of course add salt and pepper to taste as you are seasoning.

It was a creamed soup, jeez it was in April, yes I believe it was. Probably high in calories but I am getting vegetables. tulip have you tried Mio water enhancers I know you said you flavored it but I didn't know if you meant bought flavored water or tried Mio. I am not a water drinker but I love Mio tangerine taste just like orange soda and sweet tea taste just like ice tea.

Lots of really good goals. Remember, for this challenge you want to break down those big goals into smaller goals. Then pick just one or two for this challenge. Figure out what steps you need to take in order to make that goal reachable.

As an example, I have a big goal of cutting way down on sugar, I am a true sugar addict. My small goal is not to eat any sugary foods at work. In order to do that I am going to 1. stay out of the teacher's lounge! 2. when I see candy and pastries in the office (where I have to go) I will remind myself of my goal and stay away from them. 3. I will not beat myself up for missteps but just keep on trying!

IAMAGEMLOVER, it starts right away and runs to the end of February. You have laid out your goal really well so it should be doable!

For the soup, was it a creamed soup?

TULIPVIC, it takes a bit to get used to drinking water, but once you do you will like it. First start small. Maybe 3 cups of plain water a day, drink a cup with each meal or something like that. Often it is easier to drink water with food. Then maybe add another cup in a couple of weeks and see how that goes. Then try to reach your goal by the end of February!

I worked out 3 days this week, still have today to go. I did not drink all of my water, did eat my fruit and veggies. Weight Watchers weigh in lost 1.4lbs. My week is Friday to Friday so today I get to start a new week and a new chance to meet my weekly goals. Good luck to everyone.

1. My goal is to add intensity to my exercise.
2. I currently am walking for my cardio, so this month I am going to jog/walk/jog/walk at least twice a week.

I have been very ill for the last year, and have not posted messages for too long. My goals for this year are to gain strength in health, mind, and body, not necessarily in that order. I think it will help me to start with strengthening my body, and the other two can gain momentum and strength later. Of course, I will have to slowly start out in all three areas, and I welcome encouragement from this wonderful team.

Thank you in advance for your kind assistance!

My goal for this year is to continue to eat healthy and stay on track. Excerise by walking and hopefully getting to join the water aerobics this year. I love this form of exercise as it does not hurt my aging bones.

Keep on track

My goal is to exercise daily. My plan is to walk 30 min, or do a 2 mile Leslie Sansone walking video, or use stair stepper and free weights each day. Three choices - two indoor, weather will not matter!

My goal challenge this year is to stick with Sparkpeople all year....
How to do it....well, I have determined that weighing myself once a week on Sunday morning will be a way to at least sign on to the site every week. Beyond that, I really don't want to commit because I have laid all these plans in the past and have failed miserably. So, we shall see....30 lbs have to come off....exercise, portion control, weighing each week, 8 glasses of water every day...these are all what I know I should do. But this is only a small portion of the "year of caring for myself for once!" as my kids have told me I need to do. So, stay tuned! I hope this is the year SP and I develop a long and intimate relationship!

Don't put off for tomorrow what you should do today. Tomorrow is not a guarantee.

My goal is to drink at least 4 cups of water per day. I just don't like it and I don't like adding things to it to make it taste better. I used to drink 100 oz. per day, so I know I can do it. And I know it gets better once I start. It's just a matter of starting.

Went to Wally World. Bought a 32 oz. container to bring my well water from home to work.

Good luck everyone on your challenges! emoticon

It has been a while since I sparked! That has been a bad choice on my part. So, I am back in the game!
I learned a couple of years ago that setting SMALL goals results in reaching much larger goals, so I absolutely love this thread/challenge. I am setting three small goals:
1) Check in with Spark People at least three times a week, put in my tracking, check in with this thread;
2) Stop eating processed sugars: candy, cookies, etc. Focus on the healthy foods;
3) Exercise at least three times a week for the rest of January (no matter how much my side hurts). Walk, go to the Y, dance - SOMETHING! Be ready to increase the amount of days on February 1!
I love Spark People and need to really re-commit! emoticon

Hi I am in Question. Does the goal start now and end in Feb. or start in and end in Feb. I ordered the Sparkpeople cookbook and I want to make a healthy recipe from the book at least 2x a week. The book doesn't come into the store for me to pick up until Jan. 19 so I can't start until I pick it up. Can I still participate?

Here are my steps. Forget the fact that I hate to cook and buy all frozen or canned food. Learn to enjoy it. Don't listen to a certain person who says I will never do it and it is a waste of money.

2. Start small and challenge myself to only 2x a week. Otherwise I might get overwhelmed I am a very picky eater and don't like alot of things. I REFUSE to even taste any seafood. I did try crab and that was enough thank you!

3. I have my measuring spoons and measuring cups already. My son loved to cook, he use to live downstairs on the 2nd floor before leaving. It was pefect. He cooked, I cleaned up. He loved to deep fry everything.

Well that is one of my goals. Just eagerly waiting for my book to come in. Anyone know how to make cauliflower(right spelling?) soup. In April I took my Mom to Penn Dutch for her 85th birthday. On the way home the just stopped at a restaurant in NJ and my meal came with soup. I never even ate the vegetable but I didn't want to waste it. Well, it was heavenly. I made sure I got every last drop. It was filling too. I didn't even touch the entree and my Mom took it home with her. I can't even find it canned.

I love SparkPeople

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

I am responsible for my own happiness.

My name is Bonnie

My goal is to always drink 8 - 8 oz. glasses of water each day. I have a water bottle that holds 16 oz. I fill it up 4 times a day. Sunday is the day I struggle with this.
My next goal is to lose 25 - 30lbs. by the end of May 2012. If I don't, I'm happy with my 45 lb. weight loss so far. My goal is to maintain it and I have done a good job so far. I have maintained it for 8 months.

My goal is to become more active. I am at a weight-loss plateau and I know that it is because I do not take the time for exercise. I need to add that in.

I plan to use the treadmill, dance or join my daughter on Wii-fit at least 3x per week (this is alot for me!!) for 30 minutes per session. Wish me luck!! emoticon

My goal is drinking water...I don`t like water...it makes me feel sick if I drink more than 2 glasses, even if I flavor it. I count everything I drink as water, decaf, milk, ect. But I want to try just plain water. Any ideas how I can sneak it in?

My goal is to get at least 30 minutes of cardio in 5 days a week.

My plan is to spend 15 minutes on a stationary bike, either at home or at the Y, and 15 minutes walking or dancing or marching in place or any combo thereof!

I will track it in my Fitness tracker daily and report it here!

This challenge will run through February.

To participate you will need to come up with a goal you would like to reach by then. Make it a simple, doable goal. If you have a large goal you are trying to reach, this would be a good challenge to break it up and make a smaller goal to help you reach the larger one.

1. Post your goal to the thread here
2. Explain your plan to reach that goal (ex. goal is do drink 8 cups of water, plan is to use a water bottle and drink 3 of them each day.)
3. Post regularly (some of you may prefer daily, others may prefer weekly) at least weekly and let the team know how you are coming on your goal.
4. The entire team, whether they want to participate or not can come to the challenge thread and encourage the participants, offer tips and advice and just generally see how everyone is doing.
5. If you see someone is discouraged or really doing well, you could give them a goodie to help them along the way!
