I agree with you. When I was young I under ate and lost weight but decades later it just wouldn't do. I have a goal to drop 2 lbs a week for 11 weeks and then go into maintenance. Wish me luck and conscious caring all the way through!

The mistake that many people make with trying to lose weight is consuming too few calories. If you consume too far below your recommended needs, your metabolism will slow down in an attempt to hold onto fat tissue in preparation for famine/starvation. It is okay to go just a little below the recommended levels, but not too severely below.
I roughly calculated calorie needs based on a goal weight of 120# and it comes to about 1350 calories/day. That is the minimum with the 1600 being the maximum.
The absolute minimum calorie intake for a female is 1200, but most women need more than that in order to safely lose weight consistently.
If you focus on the low end of your calorie range and include aerobic activity and strength training at least 3 days a week you should start to move towards your goal. It does work if you really pay attention to what you eat and what you do. Use your Sparks meal plan to calculate your calorie intake daily (even if you don't eat the foods offered on the plan). Weight management is tedious, time consuming and frustrating to say the least, but the rewards of better health and more energy (and tons of compliments) are far worth the effort.

My calorie count, suggested by SparkPeople is 1340-1690. This seems way too high. Does anyone know how they figure this? Also, my ticker tape (goal for weight loss) is not showing correctly. It shows that I am sitting at 122 with a goal of 120 when in actuality I am still plodding along at 126! I have gone into my profile and tried to change it, but to no avail. Any suggestions?
