I don't handle situations like that very well. Any chance you could get a venue change? You could be subtle, and suggest some new place that you "heard" about that has a healthier menu. Or you could invite people over to your own place for coffee and healthy homemade treats. Or maybe meet up for an active hang out (rock climbing?). Or you could be blunt and tell them it's hard to stay on track for healthy eating when you're meeting at Timmy's.
One small action is better than no action.

i love Timhortons coffee. Used to take dbl -dbl now black and sometimes with 2 cream once or twice a week. As for special treat once a month I get cinnamon raisin bagel (toasted) and share it with my hubby. I have stopped going inside the store.
I think your on the right track, changing your drink of choice I would stick with what your doing, and if your feeling like your being cheated by not having your favorite treat, then use it as such, if this is a daily meeting, then once a week have the crueller.. but only once a week and enjoy every single sweet bite, really concentrate on how good it tastes. How well you like it and just savour it. this is life, you cannot go your whole life without enjoying the simple things, like a crueller, or pie or cake.. do you honestly think you will celebrate your 80th birthday refusing a piece of cake, because you made a promise to never ever have a piece of cake again??? that's not a life I would want to live. Its not something to have every single day, day in day out, as long as your eating healthy most of the time, its okay to say, today is a good day and I deserve a crueller. Get your exercise, watch what you eat and live life. Cat

I just refused to go there. I would have my friends over or ask if we could meet at another coffee shop. If you change or routine then the weight loss is easier. Real friends will cooperate! Until you get used to not eating sweets ( you will actually come to a point in your life change that sweet food become too sweet and you will not be able to eat them) you are better off changing your coffee venue or have really strong will power. Tim Horton's is THE place my friends and I go to have coffee and hang out. I've switched from ice caps and english toffees to steeped tea and whole grain muffins but it's sure not easy when everyone is stuffing down my favorite honey cruller. Anyone one going through this kind of experience when you go out with friends and how do you deal/cope with the situation?
