Great question. I think that my first two options would be to soak in a tub for an hour and then take a nap. I do think that fatigue and chaos can destroy most good intentions though. I guess a "safety plan" for when this happes is a great idea.

I think we all need to pamper ourselves sometimes but I wish I could just find some other way to indulge or pamper myself that doesn't involve food.
Goals: 1 - Do a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio a day, plus 15 minutes of strength 3 times a week 2 - stay within my calorie range

I usually over indulge on a bad food like chocolate and other foods I normally don't eat. But then I have to keep reminding myself that I don't want to gain the weight back that I just lost. I refuse to go back to my old jeans that are too big for me now. I like my skinny jeans! Then after over eating on something, I get myself back up and go outside for a fast walk/jog!

I have realized that when i do feel that way, I am sleep deprived. I either take a nap OR get to bed early and get the sleep my body needs. Many obese and overweight folks do not get enough zzzzzzzzzzzz and THAT can hinder weight loss and MOOD!

Try to take a small walk or do something creative. Which is a good reminder, since right now I feel physically and emotionally exhausted! Sometimes even taking a shower gets me energized.

I take a nap. Usually after the nap, I find myself getting on SP and finding encouragement that way.

I use to deal by crawling in bed and sleeping for hours, or I would eat and eat. Now I find getting on the computer and sparking helps me deal. I can talk out my problems with spark friends or I can Blog. Others encouraging me gets me on the treadmil and put down the extra food.

Usually a deep breath and a nap. Most times when I just cannot handle it anymore I find a nap of about an hour is enough to brighten my outlook (At least until I have to go back ot work that is). Sometimes I htink I just get overtired. When that happens I just cannot deal with things in my usual manner.

I actually had to deal with this this week. I have a pinched nerve and excruciating pain. I can't do the strength exercises for six weeks and had to take a few days off from cardio. I was tired from the muscle relaxer and just didn't wanna do ANYTHING. I just told myself if I got on and TRIED and began to hurt I could get back off...I made myself get on the treadmill - and once I got on their I felt better and kept going until I finished my normal time...which made me feel even better!!

Sometimes I just slog through it - figure out why I am feeling what I am feeling. Kids difficult? Husband impossible? Bad day at work? Friends don't have time for me? Maybe, if I have time, I will take a walk. BUT if I can get to a computer and log onto Spark People, then I know everything will be OK. I can read inspirational stories of successful people and know that I can do it too! and sometimes, if I have some alone time, I will read a sad book or watch a sad movie and cry, cry cry. That usually makes me feel better enough to move on.

Have actually had a lot of stuff going on lately and I am trying to focus on my eating or exercising. So at least I'm getting one of them right. I have found that a lot of times if I exercise, it relieves the anxiety.

I'm there with Audrey I just give into it as it doesn't happen often. I know that I've been here before and probably will again. However, this too shall pass. I think we too often forget that we are human, not perfect and that superwoman is a cartoon which we have nothing in common with. You can only take it a day at time and tomorrow is new day, with new grace, new mercy and new opportunities

I remember where I had been before and where I want to be. This usually gets me up and going again and gets my mind off the depressive thoughts. Thanks for doing this!

Hmmm, I'm a lucky one who doesn't often go there ... so I usually just succumb!!! If I feel like it I eat, or drink, curl up on the couch and watch some mindless drivel, and know that tomorrow is another day!

Oooh, a good thread! Well, first thing to do is always allow myself some cuddle time. Usually, that translates into a nice bath, lots of rest, and yes, the occasional food indulgence. Cooking or baking actually relaxes me a lot and gives me a mental boost via kitchen aromatherapy so that by the next day, I'm ready to slowly start moving again. I think we all need these rest breaks, and it's important to learn to listen to ourselves when the signs start popping up that it may be one of those cycles again.
Thanks to everyone for sharing your tips!

Lately I have been dealing with a lot of mood swings, depression, and stupid hormones. Plus my oldest child is driving me absolutely nuts. I'm trying to channel my anger and frustration into some form of exercise. So with the weather cooling down some I'm trying to get more bike rides in. Listening to music while I ride outdoors is very soothing.
Meditate or go for a long walk and concentrate on the scenery around you area and see what has changed or read a good book that takes you away from your emotions.

I'm thinking baby steps. Just breathe, meditate (or pray - whatever your belief or practice is), and make one small baby-step commitment. Once that is accomplished, make one more. Take them one at a time so they don't overwhelm an already overwhelmed human being.

wow a touch one, you think this one would be easy for me,lol when i am down and i know its not a good thing to let self fall that low i 1st- will write down my goals and weight - and how long it will take me for both - short term goals and long term .and goal percent , for weight loss . then i write out a meal plan some times i have to do this 3 days in row before i say enough is enough , just get up and do it no more excuses.
What do you do when you are feeling exhausted from your emotions and/or depression - too tired to take care of your health needs, such as eating right or exercising? How do you motivate yourself or get started?
