Way to go on the 15+!!
Our local high school football team - Belfast Area - did a breast cancer night too - it was a preseason game - had I known about it in advance, I would have attended. I think they raised over $1,000 for the Komen walk. It's really special when these kids do something like this for such a great cause.

DOWNEASTLASS, I can't raise my hand for 25+ yet but can for the 15+.
Our grandsons' school had a "pink" night. Actually, it was in response for "pink" night held by an arch rival. The rival school designated one night in their football schedule as pink night. The players, even, wore pink socks, etc., in honor of breast cancer survivors. So our grandsons' designated the night they played their rival in basketball as pink night. They sold shirts as a fund raiser. On the front the shirt says "Pink it! Sink it." They gave me one that has "survivor" on the back. One grandson was wrestling that night so between matches he would grab his pink shirt and run to the basketball game to show support.
Proud of all you who walked. Now to find those photos!

WELL, We did, WE did it we absolutely did it. Walked that 5K and had a ball doing it. We looked so hard for you guys we even stood right next to the stage and tried to see a chair or recognise any one. I took off my white shirt and put on MY Profile red shirt. I had over 12,000 steps before we walked just looking for you. I enjoyed my day and now somehow we just have to have a Maine Spark rally. I keep trying to see all kinds of wonderful people but keep missing them Pat in Maine. I never would have done this REL if it were not for you. We ate at Mcdonalds and I think I actually approached you red shirt and all. So sorry I was SO looking forward to seeing you all,Pat in Augusta.

Rel, not to worry - I get my facebook comments mixed up with my sparkpeople comments all the time!
We went to Dysarts for lunch - nice to visit with my friends from Auburn and have them meet my friends from here in Belfast. Can't say that I had a particularly healthy lunch, though! ... will the three orange wedges I had at the waterfront balance some of those french fries???

Just saw your post, Libby, and in my post where I said "I just got here", in regards to not having read Pats sparkmail yet, means I just got up from and hour and a half nap. lol. Hale was suppose to wake me at 3:30, so I can sleep tonight and get up tomorrow, but he fell asleep watching football. lol.

It was a wonderful day - but am I getting too old??? Felt as if I was hobbling into Staples after lunch with Rel & Hale, fell asleep on the way home and then immediately took a nap. Still feel like I was 'dragged through a knothole', as my Dad would have said. What a crowd - and I forgot my camera (I MUST be getting old - I did have my phone, and THAT takes pictures - such a dummy!). Still, for the cause, I'd do it again tomorrow. Must remember next year to do some conditioning ahead of time, having given up exercise with the heat this summer.
Jill - thanks for posting the picture. Great to catch up with you.
Rel - thanks for going to lunch. If we hadn't eaten then, I'm not sure I would eat at all today... Good luck getting up for work tomorrow.

So happy that Rel and Libby found me! Got a picture of the three of us - thought I could post it here, but I don't see where. Will put it on my spark page, if any one is interested. (Hope I do better there than on my Facebook page - for some reason, I can't create an album there......)
Great day - as I was walking up to the front, I heard a woman say "This is one club you really don't want to become a member of." But it was heartwarming and encouraging when so many women raised their hands when asked for 15+ year survivors. It's only been 4 years for me, but I plan on reaching the 25+ year club in years to come!
Missed seeing you Sandy!

Now Sandy and Dori, I hope you would know, that if either one or both of you had shown up, you would not have walked alone, we would have all stayed together. That is how it is done. We just would have made a new time this year to beat next year. You should have come out anyway, Sandy. We wouldn't have left you behind.
We didn't see Pat (Noraspat) and Fred! They knew wherre we would be, and Libby and I watched for them till 10. I hope they are ok.
I went to bed early last night, and I still could use a nap right now. lol. I can't wait to see to news to hear how many people were there.

Many positive thoughts have been with the walkers!
Sandy, I can't walk fast at all because I have neuropathy in my feet. perhaps next year we can keep each other company. We won't hold anyone back and we won't be walking alone.

Hi 5k participants! By now you should be crossing the finish line. I sure wish I was with you. . . I was up at 5 this morning, and thought seriously about going, but I know that I would not be able to keep up with you all, and did not want to hold anyone back, I know you are trying to beat last years time. I didn't want to walk it alone. I had nightmares that I would be the sole last one to cross the finish line! Trust me, my heart has been with you every step of the way! I really miss seeing all of you. I though about coming just for that, but it would have made me too sad to not go with you for the 5K. I am proud of all of you! I am sure someone will post some pictures. You can even put them in the team pictures section, so everyone can find them!
Hugs,
Sandy

I got to thinking, I will either be in white or tan shorts. Depends on how cool it is. if it is real cool in the morning, I will have tan ones on. They are a bit heavier than the white ones. I am not ready to ditch the shorts yet this year.

Hi all - I picked up the t-shirts for the team on Friday. I'll be wearing the pink one for the ceremony, but will switch to my yellow "Breast of Friends" t-shirt for the walk. Not sure where I'll be hanging out - going up with friends from Belfast and will likely arrive around 8:30 or so. Will be on the lookout for you all!

Have a safe drive, ladies and hubbies!!
We will be in the area of the parking lot with the chairs in it for the ceremony. Libby and Jill, you know what we look like, so that's not an issue. Pat, I will be wearing a gray hoodie, white shorts, sunglasses, and possibley a cap. That depends on their selection in the tent. They hand out scarves every year, and if they do that this year, I will have mine on one of my belt loops on my shorts, and Hale usually ties his around his cap. Hale will be in a wheelchair. He will have on blue jeans, blue jacket and red sox cap with just the B on it. And I say that, because some years, he isn't the only guy in a chair.
See you all tomorrow!

We can play after by ear (or foot, so to speak). I need to go to Staples and recycle ink cartridges while it is $5 instead of $2, with an ink purchase which I need anyway... Otherwise, we're open. See you in the morning!

Hale and I are not getting timed either. Pushing Hale in a wheelchair slows us down. We leave the parking lot in the middle of the crown and bring in the rear. lol. They only time the ones that come in under an hour. This year, we have to beat our personal best of 1:08. What do you think, Libby? Can we do that? lol.
Not sure what is going to happen after. Depends on Hale's foot. If he leaves it down too long, it still swells up. The foot doc doesn't like a swollen foot.

Unless we get to Bangor Saturday, we'll have to pick up our shirts when we get there Sunday. And I have one donation that was sent to me, but I'm assuming I can endorse the check and turn it in to someone that morning. Not a lot of donations, but a few... Sent emails to around 17 people, got 4 donations - that's more than 10%, so better than average response to this sort of thing. See you Sunday!!!

We were there around 4 to 4-30pm. They had put our shirts and bIBs in the mail but they took them out.
Then we tried to find the venue. We were hopelessly lost on a one way street and went over the route 9 bridge to turn around and get gas, HOWEVER, the rain came down so hard very few people were moving We were not we were lost by then. We did see a big parking garage and while it rained we found the streets on the map we had with us. Hope we can get there, Wish we had succeeded but we have our shirts and now I can wash them to get the chemicals out of them so i will be comfortable. I did say we did not need to be timed that may be a mistake but we have got quite a bit of money. We will share it between us. Thanks for your help Pat in Augusta.

Hi. I sent out an email (my own, not the one on the Komen site) and then headed to camp for the weekend. Just got home a while ago and had email replies that one friend had gone online to donate and another is sending me a check. Not up to $100 yet, but there is time. Didn't have them mail the shirts; we'll get there early enough to pick them up and look around, I hope.

Pat, enter Pickering Parking garage in your GPS to see if it comes up.If not, I am sure we can find what street it is on. There is free parking that day for the event. Or, you can go back to the Komenmaine.com website and see what they say there. in my pamphlet, it says to visit the site for parking directions.

Thank you REL, we are both registered on line i was not able to get anyone at the office except a call back later saying they were out of the office and do it online. We did. We have no idea how to do this but we are trying to get by. I printed a form i will send out e-mails asking for donations or pledges. Fred noticed a 1k and now we are nervous I was wrong about 5k being 3.5 miles i will look it up but in my anxious state it is easier to ask you. I will need directions or hopefully someone down here to car pool with we will drive no problem. I See someone said it is in the Bangor Paper. too.We have paid our money and so we are commited to doing it. Pat in Maine.

Noraspat, yes you can hang with us. :)
Libby, glad to hear you are going again this year. It will be good to see you and Mike again. : )
Noraspat, when you get there, there will be a parking lot with a stage and chairs in it. Hale and I will be in that parking lot, towards the back. We usually get our looking around done by 9, and we hang out there till race time. He is in a wheelchair, so we shouldn't be too hard to find. He is usually the only one in that lot in a chair.

I had thought I would be out of town for a meeting, but that's the next weekend. Must get online and register today, though, before we go to camp for our 'close it up' weekend. Pat, the Survivor Ceremony starts at 9, the walk at 10.
Jill, there is no Spark team this year. We are just meeting up for the walk.
Pat, about what you asked on my page, about getting sponsors. Did you register online? Not sure how they inform you about it there, but I got my registration form in the mail, because they have my info from last year. I register at the Mall so I can get my race shirt that day. And that is when I turn in my donations. You don't need to get donations per mile/k, you can ask for a flat donation. What ever they wish to donate is wonderful. If you want to collect, just use a sheet of paper, put their name on in and how much they donated, and turn it in on race day at the registration table. That table closes at 9:30 that morning.

No, you don't have to start a team - you can participate on an individual basis or you can join an existing team. Whatever works best for you is fine.
Rel, are you doing a Spark team??
I've had a team for five years - started when I was being treated for breast cancer. First time I participated, I was halfway through radiation - was pretty slow that year, but am back to normal now!

I've got five people signed up on my team so far - think I've got close to $200 for the team. My parents usually walk and I know they'll donate - still waiting for some of the other regulars to sign up. Hope we have the same great weather as past years!

I'll be looking for you too, Jill! Thanks for letting me know what color you are this year. Hale will have his wheelchair, so we won't be too hard to find. : )
I did edit my first post to put Sunday in it.
Pat, I have to go read your post again. It is Sunday the 19th. I do hope you can make it!
Hale and I usually get there around 7:30. We love watching the activity as the morning unfolds.
I have 5 donations so far, and have raised $70!! I need to get to Millinocket to hit my family up for some dough. :)
