I usually run. I'm a new runner so I switch between jogging and fast pace walking for about 15 minutes.

Was able to do 40 minutes on the treadmill without getting an asthma attack. First time doing cardio since December without an attack. But I did get a severe attack swimming. Still slowly working up my cardio, trying to not over do it.

I do a lot of cardio on my wii..whether its just dance 1/2 or ea active workouts..the great thing is I can split up into chucks if my attacks get too bad. I walk pretty much everywhere which helps..but I wan't to start giving running a whirl, but any activity which has my body bouncing a lot tends to set me off, so I'll see how it goes, doesn't help having ehler danlos type 1 which means somes days my joints are really sore. I make sure I do cardio at least 3 times a week. I have one of those resistance steppers too and after 10 mins of that I have jelly legs..but I get a good sweat going on. For other workouts I do a fair amount of pilates to tone my muscles, use dumbells in my strength exercises..using both sparkpeople routines and also www.exercisetv.tv free workouts, so then I can do workouts when kids are in bed etc

I am starting up again on monday. I have restarted my flovent and am doing it once a day. Will continue on some days to do mucinex and drink gallons of H20.
I do kickboxing. I got a great video called turbo kick. Its a spin off from the gym kickboxing. And I do the ecliptical and walking on the treadmill. I cant wait!!
I line dance 2 hours 3 x week, do Curves Circuit training 2-3 times a week and recently added a CD workout titled "Yoga for arthritis" which is a mellow workout but gets me to breathe deeper and stretch more. All of these are indoor workouts. I try to get out and kayak when I can. Can you tell I am retired?

So many days I can not go outside because of allergies. So with the air conditioner on and now found new Walk it Out for the wii. I think I have found something that works for me. I can adjust the beats per min on songs so it is not intense but gets me moving. It is so much fun it is the first exercise ever found for me that was fun....

I rotate between Wii Fit 15 to 30 minutes and Pilates with a balance ball from Gaim.
It helps with my cardio and toning...

We have had the most mild winter in history this year in Oregon, today it was 65.. So I have been able to do my 2 1/2 mile walks everyday..But I too have asthma and COPD, and have to take it as I can even if I rest a few times along the way. Also use Leslie Sansone walk a mile, abs and weights, I enjoy walking the most outside with my dogs.

I use the fitness center at work. My routine was set-up during physical therapy for a rotator cuff tear and adjusted for DJD in both knees.
Seated elliptical: 30-60 min. 3-5X/week [intervals stress my breathing so I go for endurance]
Strength training on 4 weight machines for shoulder 3X/week
I always use the inhaler before exercising.
If the air is healthy and the weather good, I walk with my dog.

Hi, I totally understand. :)
I use my inhaler before I start the workout. I have found that the important thing that works for me to is to include a good warm up. For example, if I use my elliptical then I start out without using the arms and low resistance. Then, after I am warmed up, I add more intensity. If am doing a cardio workout then I reduce the intensity or stop using the arms that usually brings down my heart rate and reduces symptoms.
Right now I am doing: 15 minutes on the Elliptical 10 minutes squats, leg lifts, sit ups 1 hour Jazzercise class 1-2 times per week

I have exercise induced asthma and just now getting under control. I haven't been exercising and need some tips. I do a little dancing and it doesn't bother me since I've been on meds. I'm a little shy about starting a workout plan. Should I use my rescue inhaler before exercising? Jackie

I do: 15 minutes on the recumbent bike, x6/week. Total Trainer (less expensive knock-off of the Total Gym) & elliptical on alternae days. No working out on Sundays.
If the asthma is bothering me ( as it is right now) I use my emergency inhaler before I start to exercise. It seems to keep me from wheezing while I'm exercising. I also cover my mouth and nose when I go out in the cold air. Even though that's not part of my exercise plan, if my lungs get irritated there, it carries over into everything else.

When my lungs are up for it, I love to kickbox, but this time of year my sinuses and lungs get so messed up. Instead, since my asthma is exercise induced, I go out and muck my horses stalls early in the morning before going out to ride in the afternoon. It's a quick chore, but at the same time, I get a really good workout from it.

I have fairly bad exercise induced asthma and it gets worse in the hot/humid summer temperatures of the southeast. I have just found a life-saver that has truely helped me be able exercise, stay indoors, and pace myself for my breathing.
The Wii Active 30-day challenge for the Wii game system really works. I have lost 5 pounds so far in the past few weeks. The game gives a great workout...you can choose your intensity. I choose the high intensity calorie buring exercise routine. Although these exercises are labeled "high intensity" they are low intensity on the lungs. They involve alot of full body toning and stationary cardio. They do not put the intensity on the lungs that normal gym treadmills, elipticles, running, biking or other activies do...which are hard for me due to my serverity.
If you have the Wii or have the money for one, I highly recommend this for asthmatics.

Well i rode my bike to a friends house ( and LOL it is NOT next door. It is normally only about an eight minute drive but on my trike and huffing and puffing took 40 minutes one way!! Actually on my hot rod trike- on my spasrk page.

I walked/ran on the treadmill for about 40 minutes last night. It took me 25 minutes to go a mile, which is really frustrating because I used to be able to RUN a mile in 6 minutes...
I jog on a mini tramp for 30 minutes. Sometimes I swtch it up with dancing. This doesn't seem like working out, but I sweat & get my heart rate up.
I guess I should get some strength in...

Once again, I'm trying the SP bootcamp... this one I think is called "New You" and I haven't been good about doing the videos. : However, today I shoveled manure and weeded a 20x4 ft neglected vegetable bed. I was glad to see the some of the baby plants hadn't died from neglect.
I'm gonna be sore tomorrow.

Cardio three days a week and weight training 2 days. If I feel my symptoms acting up I just make the workout light and focus on being at my max. So far. I've lost 5lbs.....I'm so excited....Can't wait to feel better I have a cold and have done light workouts....

hi, i haven't posted here in awhile, but i am just looking around on the sparkteams i am members of and decided to see what was going.
so my weight training is with a trainer 2x/wk for october for 50 min sessions. then in nov and on, i will go back to once a week and then i will have to do my own weight training two more times, i usually train on tues evenings at 5, so i would do thurs & sat then.
my cardio - i love cardio, but my asthma sometimes slows me down - but i do kickboxing twice a week tues & fri, although i may be adding a sat class in about 2 weeks when the new gym opens. i also take a tap dance class on tues evenings for one hour, this class does not bother my asthma at all until we are getting ready for the recital, that is not until may. then i do the elliptical once or twice a week for at least 30 min, then i have to another cardio machine for another 15 min. i try to do cardio 6 days a week for at least 45 min, i usually only get in 5 days. my trainer wants me to do 6, i am working on that.

I do a Spark generated strength training 3 times a week. Cardio I try to do something different each time (4x/week) The one that leaves me with the least asthma-related symptoms/pain is Carmen Electra's striptease aerobics. I know it sounds silly but hear me out. It's a 5 disc set. Three of the discs focus on striptease stuff, it's a work out but I don't really do those right now. The other one is a hip hop routine that I haven't attempted yet and the 5th one is a cardio/aerobic strength training routine(s). It's sort of like circuit training without equipment because you do a mixture of cardio/strength training workouts in a row for about 34 minutes, then there are other smaller isolation strength training elements later in the film. There are plenty of times where you just step, march or what have you to catch your breath while still getting your heart rate going.

For my cardio, I walk on my breaks or lunch time at work. If I'm unable to get that in, I'll wait until I get home and walk on the treadmill.

I do a spart generated strength plan set for 30 mins and I do this 3 days per week. I change the plan at the start of every month. Depending on the exercises, I sometimes add an extra video 1 day lower body, 1 day upper body and the 3rd day core so by the end of the week I've done an extra workout for my whole body.
Cardio...now cardio is a different story. I like walking, but have problems getting it in (today it is pouring and they are predicting 60 km/hr winds by tonight). Last year I went swimming before DH left for work. I can't do that this year as his new job requires him to leave at 5:30 and that's when the pool opens. The good news is that next year he can leave later so I can get my swimming in again.
