I know that you said fruit is harder for you. I am teasing you, you know. I sometimes can't get the good fruits & veggies in either. That's why you came up with this challenge, to motivate all of us! I did like your "fruit roll-up" day. Even though you didn't let me count corn chips.

It is hard for me to get it in because me kids don't eat alot of fruit and it goes bad sometimes before I eat it all. I forgot to buy the Delmonte fruit naturals at the grocery store too. My brain has not been screwed on straight this week.

Cherly,
What are we going to do with you? You couldn't even eat a fruit roll up, like you did on Valentine's Day?! Your fruit intake has really suffered this week. Well, today is another day...

Today:
applesauce - 1/2 cup
pineapple - 2 slices
spinach - just a little, maybe 1/10 cup
yellow squash - 1/3 cup, post cooking
red cabbage - 1/2 cup, post cooking
Ragu spaghetti sauce (which is labeled "more than 1 serving of veggies in every half cup") - 1/2 cup

Yesterday:
apple - 1 large
pineapple - 3.125 slices (that slice broke and the rest hit the floor)
Ragu sauce - 1/2 cup
spinach - .25 cup post cooking
yellow squash - .5 cup post cooking

Both days I also had 2 servings of vegetable pasta, but I doubt that has enough to be even a fraction of a serving.

Cherly,
Asparagus is much better when you use fresh, much like broccoli is better when fresh. Frozen is a good 2nd choice. I've never used canned, but I don't think I would like it. I don't like it mushy.

Cathy,
My son, who lives in Florida, said it was cold there. He said I should bring warm clothes when I head down there next week. He said it was 47 today. I think 47 sounds nice and warm compared to the weather we've been having in Michigan. He seems to think 47 is colder in FL that it is in MI because it's wet there. I think he's been in FL too long and has forgotten what MI feels like. I can't wait to see my little boy (26 yrs old) and his wife and her baby belly. My daughter and I are going down for the baby shower. I will be driving through Tennessee, straight down I-75. Shall I wave at you on my way by?

Oh, I had salad tonight, but no fruit today. I'm a bad girl!

No it wasn't. I thought it tasted alot like broccoli or cauliflower to me. I had it out of a can and it was real soft and mushy. Is it supposed to be that way?

Ok ladies I tried the asparagus and wasn't that bad. My hubby did not like it but he doesn't like half the things I do. So for veggies I had asparagus, lima beans, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, and peppers. As for fruits the only thing I got in was a package of fruit snacks I ate while my child was in the doctors office for my breakfast. I don't think that piece of ice cream cake I just had for dessert will count for fruits either but it sure was good but very heavy in calories. I promise I only had a small piece. I will try and do better tomorrow.

Cathy,
What state are you in? I'm in Michigan. The weather has been atrocious! We are supposed to get more snow late this afternoon and into tomorrow. Yuck! I can't hardly wait till spring!! My sweet hubby wants to take me out of town for the weekend to celebrate Valentine's Day. After nearly 29 years, he's still romantic! I'm leaving for Florida with my daughter next Thurs. We are going to my daughter-in-law's baby shower. I am looking forward to thawing my bones for a few days. I am also excited about seeing my daughter-in-law's baby belly. They refuse to take any pictures for us, so I have to go see for myself. My first grandchild, Hooray!!

Don't you grill in the winter?? It smells GREAT and makes all your neighbors jealous!! It's especially terrific standing in a foot of snow. As long as you don't have freezing rain, I'd say go for it!

I could eat a jar of beets all at once! Grilled asparagus is delicious, I also love it right out of the can.

Yesterday (Wed) I did very poorly on fruits and veggies.

The only thing I can think of at all is red bell pepper, and that was probably less than a serving. I do have slim-fast for breakfast (not much of a morning person) which has lots of nutrients, but I still don't think it would compensate for a real fruit or vegetable.
I will make pasta today-- I always get LOTS of vegetables on pasta days, and I've already had an apple.

Cherly,
How is it that a girl who loves veggies has never had asparagus? You will LOVE it! Try some steamed.

Cathy, I can handle beets in small doses. It's good in a Greek salad. Never tried it grilled, sounds interesting. Beets are supposed to be very good for you. It's one of those Super Foods. I wish I loved them.

I didn't do well with the fruit & veggie challenge today.

I could eat a whold jar of beets. I love them. I can't think of anything to compare it to but to me it is delicious. You should try some. I had some at a restaurant a few years ago, it was grilled...I have loved it ever since, wish I had tried it years ago!

1 16 oz. Berry fulfilling Jamba Juice

Veg:

I thought V-8 was only 1 serving of veggies per 8 oz.
Most Ragu spaghetti sauces are 1 serving of veggies per 1/2 cup (or 4oz.) Other sauces might be too, but since I'm not sure I always buy one that says that on the label.
I always sautee lots of vegetables to add to my spaghetti sauces. Squash, Zucchini, Red Cabbage, or Spinach are most common.

Yes V-8 would count as veggies but I just don't think those corn chips would count or I would be eating the chili cheese ones. I can usually do more veggies that fruit for me.

Cherly,
You are a great motivator!! Does V-8 juice count? Isn't it supposed to be 3 veggie's in 1 serving? That would be pretty easy to swallow. I'm a bit better with my fruit. But I'll do my best. (Can I count corn chips as a veggie? LOL)

Our Week 2 Challenge for Feb 11-17 will be to be sure and eat 3 fruits and 3 vegetables each day. Please come a post what you have ate for the day and offer any comments that would help us to acheive this. Thanks for staying with me in the water challenge and see that I have alot more water to drink than I should and hope this is just a fun for you to participate in also. Please offer any suggestions for challenges to help the team really soar with some weight loss.
