My goal is to spin three days a week (M, W, Sat) and Les Mills Body Pump two days (T, Th), which leaves me one break day (F or Sun) and the other to do some other aerobic exercises (elliptical or treadmill). We are working on our club manager to add Pilates back in the schedule on Saturday morning right after spinning class.

Hey All,

I have been out of circulation for almost 4 weeks and I just started back yesterday.
All I can say is WOW!!!

I felt like I had dropped 5 pounds in that 30 min class. We stood up the entire class and of course I was sweating like a pig and loving it.

I can't wait for Thursday's class which is an hour.

keep on spinning:)

Four spinning classes, at least 2 kickboxing and 1 Zumba class this week! Also, P90x. I'm on a mission. I missed working out last week due to school and family issues but I'm back in the saddle now!

Hi Iready2lose2day!
Make sure you don't have a soft toe shoe, it might hurt your toes a bit. I purchased some spin shoes and it's like night and day to me. I would say that only about 2 to 3 people out of a class of 20 wear spin shoes though, so it's not a must have thing to do. Have fun!

I spin three days a week.
Mon I follow the class with 30 mins on the elliptical
Wed I follow it with a pilates class and
friday I follow it with a yoga class

Tues and thrusday I do 90 mins of weight training

I have two dogs that I walk 2-3 times a day. I track our walks with the mileage trackers on Spark and we average 25-30 kms a week.

I am a morning exerciser, I work out everyday before work

Anyone can spin!! You do it at your own pace, when the instructor tells you to "add in" meaning more tension you add in as much as YOU can handle, if its too much you can release it.. Make it your own ride, but most of all have fun!!

Wear anything light as you WILL be wet!! Tennis shoes are fine..

Good Luck!!

I used to spin 3 years ago and just got back into it a couple weeks ago. I am loving it all over again! I truly enjoy it. It pushes me and forces me to work out for at least an hour 3-4 days a week, it burns a lot of calories, and it energizes me. It really is a huge motivator to me!

I just started spinning last month. I went to two 30 minute beginner classes. I felt great during/after the first one but I didn't stretch enough and had a muscle knot in my left quad. The second class I took it a bit slower and made sure I stretched more than the instructor had us do at the end of class. I look forward to working spinning into my workout routine. I already do water aerobics 3-4 times a week but want to cross-train plus lift weights on a regular basis. Those are my goals for 2010!

I will have to try to do 3 every other week or on weeks when I have a vacation day. The timing of the classes makes it difficult for me to do 3.

I tried spin class this past Tuesday, and my knees and shins are still hurting on Sunday. I don't think the class is for me. I'm going to listen to my body and not try that again. I just wanted to try to see if I like it. Not for me.

Hi...I am new too. Just went spinning at a class this morning. I liked it! It seemed to go fast and I lasted 45/60 minutes going at my own pace but still pushing myself.

Think I'll hold off on the shoes until I see if I stay with it. I weight train and walk, but have had some recent issues with plantar fascitis and thought cycling could help me stay on my exercise plan without the strain on my heels right now.

Advice and movtivational messages are welcome anytime!

The weather is getting warm, so I have not been to spin class much. I have also been riding mostly outside to train for my ride this Saturday - 46 miles for Little Red Riding Hood in Logan, UT.
Very excited for Saturday!

Go ahead and take the class. Talk to the instructor and tell her/him of your concerns. And that you may leave the class after 20 mins..your signal that all is OK is a thumbs up. Next time you will last for 22 minutes..(that is what new people in my class do).
Or you can just take off all the tension, and just pedal slowly until you recover. There is no rule that says you HAVE to increase tension and hill climb when the rest of the class does.

Hi...Newbie here. I have tried spinning in the past and thought I would love it. However, I didn't pursue it. I am in my 50's and about 40 lbs overweight. I am on Weight Watchers. The spinning class at L.A. Fitness is one hour and does not have a beginner one. I want to do this...Not sure if I should just jump into it and do what I can and pace myself or try to get my fitness level up. I do have a couple of pairs of bike shorts with the padding. I will hold off on the shoes w/clips. Maybe a reward for weight loss goal. Any suggestions for a beginner? Any help is deeply appreciated. I really want to do it.... Jo emoticon

Coach Nicole says to post the number of times. If you spin for 30 min or 60 minutes a day you would post 1 time, not the number of minutes.

If you teach classes, you might be has high as 3 or 4 times a day. I don't think anyone could take 30 or more spinning classes a day.

Take care,
Al

your legs will definitely get toned from spinning, and for your tummy and for a great stretch for those muscles after spinning, yoga or pilates is great.

How will you know where you are going if you don't know where you have been ( keep tracking )

I have been spinning consistently for about 8 months and I can see a big difference in my legs. I am really wanting to tone my hamstrings as they are probably one of the weakest sections on me and I have seen a big change there. I spin 3 x's a week. I think if you can keep going consistently you will see a big change and it will definitely help you with you backpacking trip -- how fun!!!

I have been attending spin class twice a week for the last three weeks. It is so hard but I really enjoy the intensity of the class. I was wondering if some of you seasoned spinners have noticed any weight loss or body toning from the class. My purpose for taking the class is to get rid of my stomach and to get in shape for my 5 month backpacking trip through Europe next year.

I'll be spinning 2x a week but I have recently purchased an entry level 24 speed and plan to commute from home to work Monday thru Friday. That will be my cross training exercise.

You can't achieve success if you're not willing to take the first step.

Hi PLENTY, Just so you know if you drink all 3 32oz bottle of water you are drinking 12 glasses of water a day. Be careful how much you drink you could have water gain. You only need to drink 2 of your 32oz. water bottle. I hope that helps!

How would you like us to report our progress?
This week I have taken 2 spin classes that were 60 mins each and I drink tons of water. I have a 32oz water bottle that I fill out about 3 times a day. I'm not sure if this equals 8 glasses a day or not.

I just read this post, even though I joined the goals a while back. I have always put the number of minutes, because I assumed that is what they were asking. It would be good if everyone reported the same statistic. I will change to number of classes, but to me it makes more sense to do minutes, since it has you click on the day and most people (unless you are instructors) don't take more than one class per day. Just a thought. Keep me posted and I will report accordingly.

Hi Coach,
Seems like we are not on the same page as everyone else. It might be just easier to track minutes than number times a week. I really don't think people have gone to 60 classes already this month.

Just my $.02

Hi everyone!
Have you seen our new Team goals yet? If not, go to the main page for the Team and you'll find them below the message boards. So far I've set up 2 goals that you can choose to join and track--let's see if we can meet our monthly goals!

Goal 1: Take a Spinning class at least 2 times per week. When tracking your goal, enter the number of classes you've done, even if it was less than 2.

Goal 2: Cross-train at least 2 times per week.

Goal 3: Drink at least 8 cups of water per day.

Let me know if you have any questions about the Team goals.

Nicole
