Thanks this is a really good question.

IMMagic- you are so right to find a lesser activity on the fog days. I cannot deny the existence of my fog day when the range top has a burning pot cooking because my head wondered. I can laugh at myself when the words get slurred.
I appreciate my specialist for answering a hundred questions when illogic takes over this 24 hour period. I avoid driving on these less than sound brain days but laugh I will at myself and understand the causes. Often it is that I over extended myself just the day before.

I have several mixed together practices that are learned from my doctor of Nutrition and assisted with clean pharmaceutical grade nutrients and supplements. This includes a high complex of “B” vitamins and the newest supplement to my regime is the liquid form of DMG. See this link for some facts

• About DMG | DMG Doctor
dmgdoctor.com/information/about/
8k - similar pages WHY DMG? DMG (N,N-Dimethylglycine) is a metabolic enhancer that can provide increased benefits when supplemented even if there isn't a deficiency.
Here are some bullet thoughts from that web site…
 DMG (N,N-Dimethylglycine) is a metabolic enhancer that can provide increased benefits when supplemented even if there isn’t a deficiency.
 DMG helps the process of metabolism (breaking down or building up of compounds in the body) work better and more efficient.
 DMG is a completely safe hypoallergenic nutrient.
 We don’t produce as much DMG as we grow older or if we are immune compromised, which leaves us more susceptible to stress and infection.
 DMG improves oxygen utilization, detoxification, cell protection, immune system modulation, and physical performance.
 Extensive research with animals and in clinical testing shows that DMG is an adaptogen that helps maintain homeostasis.
I find that this powerful supplement is too strong after say 1PM. I get restless and sleep poorly or not at all when taken too late of too much.
I feel better with this tool to cut lactic acid in my muscles and sooths aches and allows a cleaner body function thus a better day tomorrow. Ask your naturopathic doctor or other orthomolecular nutritional specialist about this pain ceasing oxygen placing lactic acid reducing ADAPTOGEN tool.
An adaptogen will take a swing up or down as the body needs. It heats or cools as the body needs. It will adapt to a better result with as needed changes for improving signs of discomfort. My fibrofog is nearly gone most days when all my tools, working schedules, and sleep practices combine to ensure a fibrofog free day.

Sorry for being late in answering you, Meg. "Hypervigilance" is what you develop when you have a baby: not sleeping soundly because you're listening for any sound from your baby.

After the baby is grown, the hypervigilance "button" doesn't turn off, so you're still attuned to any sound you hear - especially when you're sleeping. I'm very aware of sounds, noise, lights, etc. That's why I don't get sound sleep.

My dogs start moving in the night and I'm awake. A car races by our house at night and I hear it. I can no longer go into casinos because the flashing lights and ringing bells drive me crazy.

Aberlaine - what do you mean by "hypervigilance"? I haven't heard this term before.

I've read that refreshed sleep is the key to all our symptoms. However, our hypervigilance, prevents us from getting into deep sleep where our body can heal and rejuvenate.

I take the supplement phosphatidyl serine which is supposed to sharpen memory and mental acuity. Acetyl L-Carnitine also helps by sharpening mental focus & concentration. But before starting any supplements, check with your doctor. As good as they may be, they may interfere with any prescriptions you may be taking.

It wasn't until I went completely gluten free did the fog lift for me. But the sun is out more days now in my head!!!

Other things: exercise, a diet rich in fruits and veggies, and sleep.

Adequate sleep, excercise and good nutrition all help, but you may still have episodes...It takes different forms ... for some of us, it scrambles our words or throws odd ones randomly into our conversations... my friends have gotten used to it, now they just laugh--and I've learned to laugh with them. I've found for me it's best not to try and multitask when having this issue: if I stay focused on just one thing, it won't be quite so bad...

I find that getting decent sleep helps. For me, that means taking zolpidem (brand name Ambien). I wake up with no drowsiness. Without it I feel like I was run over by a truck.

The other big thing that helps is exercise. I do something to get the blood moving---walking or riding my bike.

Good luck!

Welcome to the Fibro Club!
Yes, brain fog is a specific fibro problem. I find it's worse when I'm short on sleep, when I get sensory overload, and when I'm stressed. I try to get enough sleep, avoid loud and confusing situations and decrease stress. Not easy all the time, I know.
Also, sometimes I take a supplement called Butterbur, trade name Petadolex. It's action is to increase blood flow between the neck and the head. I use it when I'm brain fogged and when I feel a migraine starting. Helps with both. You can find research done with it at enzy.com. I buy the vitacost brand at Vitacost.com, as it's the least expensive I've found. It works as well as the more expensive brands, at least for me.

Hope this helps.

I am 25 and newly diagnosed. A lot of times, I will feel like I am in a daze or dreaming. I hope this makes sense! I heard this is called fibrofog. Is anyone else experiencing this and what has helped you? It is really hard to concentrate and sometimes I will totally space out and forget what I was doing. It is so embarrassing sometimes!
