Moneyball.

Fascinating look at the Oaklands A's and their brand of baseball. Even though Brad Pitt's not in the book, the book is better than the movie, which was great.

Change Your Brain Change Your Body by Dr. Daniel G. Amen. Boost your brain to improve your weight, skin, heart, energy and focus. It's a medical book but "pedestrian" friendly. It's a great book and reveals how everything you put into your body and the exercises you do can either improve or hurt your mental health as you age. I think Dr. Amen is coming to Houston in November to do a seminar on this subject, but it's much cheaper just to read the book.

Let me know if it's any good! Has anyone read any of "The Cat Who..." series books? They are short books but hysterical. They are mystery books where the PI's cat helps him solve the myseries.

Megan, we don't get HBO--otherwise, I'd be watching, too! I love to see the contrast between books and movies.

My husband's now reading The Shack...and drum roll, please: enjoying it! I'm starting Lisa Gardner's Alone tomorrow.

Thank you, Mary. My parents have been recommending No 1 Ladies Detective Agency to me for years. Just hadn't gotten to it yet. A couple weeks ago I caught the first episode of the new HBO series based on the books. It was great, so I figured I better get reading so I can watch the show on tv! (I like to read the books before watching the movie or tv show!)

Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? ... Why does Rice play Texas? Megan, you'll enjoy the #1 Ladies Detective Agency! I read it a couple of years ago for a book club thing.

Donna, I really enjoyed The Shack...very thought provoking. Now I'm halfway through The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult. She wrote My Sister's Keeper. One great thing about unemployment...I sometimes finish a book overnight!

-- Megan --

Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? ... Why does Rice play Texas? We choose to [do these things], not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win..."

I'm already figuring that out, Donna, and I've just started it! I've had about 5 friends recommend it just in the last 2 weeks and another friend actually brought it to me and said I HAD to read it!

I just finished one of the Patterson Maximum Ride books...I've read 3 so far, but all out of order! If I would have known that the story was continuous I would have tried to get them all at once and go from there!

Happy Easter!

Night Train to Lisbon by Pascal Mercier

It's been a while since I updated this! I finished Moby Dick, started reading The Scarlet Letter- I'm about halfway through that.
I also listen to Daily Audio Bible, normally during workouts, does that count as 'reading'? :P Last year I got through 10 months of the Protestant Bible, this year I want to get through the whole thing (12mo) and read the rest of The Bible as well, including Tobias, Judith, Macabees, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus and Baruch. So that's an ongoing 'read' :)

I've got 2 going right now: Thin Tastes Better by Steven Gullo--pretty old, but I needed to "revisit" the message! One of my Fast Track goals is reading something for motivation every day. And for fun, I just started James Patterson's The 6th Target. I always have a book in my hands, too.

Now, I'm reading "The Graveyard Position" by Robert Barnard. It's an amusing British murder mystery, one of my favorite genres. I've read many books by this author.

I am never without a book. I go to the Meyer Branch Library regularly and renew my books online in between. I've bought so many books that I am resolved to stick to the public library.

My husband had to read Huck Finn for his last English class. He didn't care for it. I personally have not read it.

I am currently reading A Grave Talent by Laurie King. She is an author I've recently found and I enjoy her stories.

Tom Sawyer was really cute - I don't have an English library here though so books are limited to what I brought with me. However, I'll put Huck on the list for my next trip to 1/2 price!
Now I'm reading Moby Dick. It takes some time, but the descriptions are so interesting- everything is a metaphor! So far it's good :)

'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' - never read it, it's hilarious.

I read "The Red Tent" in the past year or two. There's another one by the same author about Moses's wife. I read that one, too, but can't remember the title. I liked it better than "The Red Tent."

Anyone have suggestions for a good read?

I'm listening to The Red Tent. It is about Dinah in the Old Testament. It is fiction, but has some truths to it. It is a good book! I listened to it about two years ago and am anxious to listen again.

Now I'm reading Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt. It's interesting, but it isn't what I'd call a great story; probably because it's a memoir. Not my usual read, but my mom recommended it.

I never read. I lisen to books on tape and that's it. I used to read, but I used to have more time! The only way I can read a book is if I don't play on the internet. So, it's you guys or the book! I chose you. :o)

I'm probably the last person in America to read "The Kite Runner." That's what I'm reading now. Everyone says it's great book and already a classic. I'm still waiting for it to get great.

Foreign Babes in Beijing: Behind the Scenes of a New China by Rachel DeWoskin.

It's a pretty fascinating view of "new" Beijing as seen through the eyes of an American woman working there.
