Garter belt or garter band? You mean the one you toss at your reception?

I made my own, and once I'm done with school 'm considering making them and selling them on Etsy because they are fun and easy and inexpensive and I think others out there charge WAAAY too much.

I made mine by sewing together two strips of 1" ribbon together (satin ribbon that matches my dress) with organza sandwiched inbetween on the edges, and a strip of woven elastic in the very middle. See my blog for a pic: http://notesfromcheeseland.blogspot.com/2009/06/garter.html

Do you have a hobby lobby or Michael's near you? They always have supplies for making your own. Some fabric stores even make them. I won't be doing a garter throw, but I will be wearing one (though no one will know it I suppose..) I am going to wear my mom's from her wedding (old and blue!) and I plan to hopefully make one in our wedding colors if time permits.

I don't know how to make them; I would just order a nice one from Oriental Trading or something, that is where I got mine.

My fiance is a huge Superman fan, and I saw these really great custom Superman garter belts online - for $74 each though! I can't justify spending that much for something that is basically blue and red materials with yellow ribbon.
Has anyone made their own garter belts, or know how to make them? Does anyone have a really cool custom garter belt out there that you'd like to share your story about?
