I hear ya on the carb thing...If I am able to keep them out of my diet during the day then the cravings don't hit as hard at night. I am a carb addict and working on cutting most processed carbs out of my life, I was just thinking this morning that I have no clue when I last had a piece of bread or pasta my 2 biggest downfalls...you can do it, takes time-and if you are running you do need some carbs to help fuel those runs.

Oh I was eating enough and the right stuff. It lasted for all of a couple days. Lol Stress and hormones happened to interfere. I'm still incorporating part of the meal plan but it's difficult to be 100% good. Right now I'm probably closer to 70-75% good which is still better than the 40% I probably was before. Crackers are my biggest downfall right now. Goldfish to be specific. But we just ran out yesterday and I specifically bought a different kind of cracker this time for my son so lures won't be thrown out to me. Carbs at night are also proving to be hugely difficult to overcome. But those are my only two main problems. Knock those out and I'll be up to 90% good.

Be careful and don't undereat-make sure you are fueling your body to do the workouts you want to do or you could do more damage than good.
I like the running goals :)

I'm way late on this but I have two new goals for this month.

- I'm going to run M-F, each day a different routine. I'm going to try for 10 miles total each week. M and F is speed work; Tu and Th is a hill program; W is completing a full 5k.

- My dietician friend gave me a new meal plan to follow to really buckle down and start losing weight.

Today was the third day for my running and my legs felt like lead because it was also the second day for my diet. I guess I'm used to lots more calories to work off of. When I first started running I ran every day so I know I can do this if I keep the mileage low and keep the routines varied.

ALEXGRAY,Your goals are commendable!!!

On your marathon for charity that sounds like a great idea! Zumbathons are very popular everywhere and it is easy to find local instructors to participate due to the instructor network that Zumba has created-it is amazing! But for your thought you can get a variety of instructors offering tastes of their classes-we used to do them at our gym and it was a great way to challenge the members as well as maybe introduce them to formats they have been scared to try- challenge them to participate in the entire thing-20 minutes of each format you have offered at your facility-ending in a yoga class (that is more of the stretching relaxing than intense etc)
See if your gym will put up something free for the person that raises the most (outside donations in their name)AND sticks with the entire event-maybe a month added on to their membership or a free month trial if they are not a member---great way to have non-members try out the gym, this way the gym can benefit with prospective new members as well (you always want the gym to see that a benefit can be made from any ideas you have).
OK sorry if I got carried away-can you tell I SO miss being part of a gym family!!!!
Good Luck and if you need any more suggestions etc you can always email me:)

Well, the running and the cycling are going well. The positivity, well... it's up and down.

Haven't really progressed with a new class format but I asked people what sort of exercise class they'd like, and I got a lot of requests for pilates so I'm refreshing my memory on that because I haven't done it in ages. And I could do with a bit of core work myself, so that will be good.

I'm considering doing some sort of exercise marathon for charity. There was a three-hour Zumba(R) marathon in town today, but that was with 12 instructors. 15 minutes each? Lightweights!

Adding a TRX class on Wednesdays. Started last Wednesday.

Our gym just got Body Attack. Took it last night. Will probably add that too! Just have to find a time.

I'm going to try to be more positive this month. Although I've been told that you shouldn't say "try" because it sounds like you're going to fail. So, I'm going to be more positive this month.

As for fitness, apart from devising a new class format, I'm going to step up my running. I really want to be running 10k in a better-than-decent time by the time the local race season gets going next March. One of the things I need to work on is proper warm-up and stretching because when I'm running on my own, I tend to skimp on those aspects and then I feel it the next day, which isn't good at the time and isn't good for maximizing the benefit generally.

I'm still doing the 5x50 Challenge, which is covering 5k every day for fifty days, and that runs to the 28th, when UK daylight saving time ends. Since I cycle a lot and 5k isn't that much for me, I've set myself a target of doing 1000k in the 50 days, and I'm currently on target to achieve that.

My goal actually started on 9/25 this past week... but it goes for 57 days.

Why 57 days?!

Because that's the date (9/25) that is 57 days before my 57th birthday!

I've been doing this since I was 50: taking the corresponding number prior to my bday and really giving my fitness and nutrition EXTRA SPECIAL effort and attention!

I invite all of you out there to take this concept and create something that will work for YOU. Even if your bday isn't coming up, you might consider:

= Creating a cycle (made up of the number of years you are) to really dedicate yourself to your fitness and/or nutrition.
= For the month of October, make your exercise length of time in minutes correspond to your age.

Or... or... or... like Melody said:
Share with us what you ARE planning to do as a goal for October!

Here's an idea I just thought of:
= Work out for 31 minutes (minimum) this month to correspond to the 31 days of October! LOL

Hope to hear form others on this!

Susy
P.S. Thank you Melody for getting this started!!! (You are APPRECIATED!)

Does anyone have a goal for October? Or a challenge you wish to put forward to the team? Doesn't have to be a month long challenge, or even a daily one, can be something simple or as big as you want. maybe something you have done and want to see if the rest of us can?
