Thanks. If feels good. I was supposed to meet a new woman for coffee tonight but she never showed. I called but no answer. It makes me all the more grateful I found AA and it stuck.

I have 8 years of sobriety today. Who would have know it was possible? Certainly not me. And I could never have imagined how good life can be sober with AA and a Higher Power to thank.

That's an awesome story, Pixiechic! I met my guy at my first AA meeting. He bought me my first Big Book. We've been together more than 6 years!

Thanks for that Pixiechic! That made me smile and huge smile. I met my husband of 3 1/2 years at meetings. I knew him from seeing him at meetings but he was just this rough looking guy I shook hands with a couple of times a week. One day he asked me out for coffee after the meeting and a voice from somewhere behind me (sure wasn't my voice lol) said yes. I learned that under that gruff exterior was a kind, generous, loving man. We have been madly in love since that first coffee date.

Persevere. Even if you fall on your face, you have moved forward.

along those lines SBATES - here is a good story.

When i was trying to sober up i had a room mate who worked in a diner. She met a guy who wanted pecan pie. he was a regular guy and reg. customer. She liked him alot and told him about her room mate (me) who made great pecan pie. She thought we would make a great couple, but i was struggling. She told him of my struggles with getting sober and every so often this guy would ask - how was i doing. So over a period of time she would tell him - "hey she has 3 mo clean and couple mos. later - hey she now has 5 mo. clean. So over time he heard many stories of my struggles and successes. Eventually she again broached the subject of hooking up with me as i was well on my way to a sober life and doing very well. One day he said well ok - i guess it would be nice to make a new friend - he was losing a long employed job and was very down. So I made a pecan pie and he sent me a card with his pic and info. unbeknown to her (the waitress) - the last sentence of the card said - i live a sober life and have been clean for 15 years! (Kismet!) I made the pie. we met at the diner and have been sober and married for 17 yrs. You never know!

If I had not gotten sober, I would have never met many, many people whom I care about, a few of whom I even love.

4/21/12 ONE YEAR!!!
what a strange year it has been. but what a fantastic one. the first couple of months sucked and I was bitter and jealous of everyone around me and couldn't hang out with my friends.

then day by day I cared less about the booze and more about my hobbies and my job. The advances I have made in my photography are incredible. my bipolar is finally stabalized. i don't fight with my husband. i have money. and the list goes on...

i don't have cravings any more. the smell of beer disgusts me. I've made new friends through my local camera club.

I am thrilled to celebrate one year. Since I don't go to AA, I won't be getting a chip tomorrow, but I will be going to the flea market to get an antique buddhist medallion necklace...or maybe to a store to get a ring. I will be celebrating tomorrow.

well done bo - congrats to you. Yes, they are all hard won each day every day. Weather we have 20 days or 20 years - we all still have this day and this day alone. I remember when i would look at the women with a year and be in total and complete awe. I still am in awe of the old timers with 20 years and soon with grace from my higher power i'll be one of those old timers, but i got here a day at a time like everyone else. Yay to you Bo! and Yay to us all! and prays for those still out there.

Love all of these amazing sobriety dates! My sobriety date is 12/22/03. And those of you that think that oh I only have "x" days.....celebrate those days! Those are HARD won days no matter whether you have 1 day or 57 days or 310 days or 5,625 days. They are all hard won and as much as you celebrate them, we celebrate them with you!! Way to go!!!

Nanalist,
If you count all the minutes and all the seconds in 10 days, it is a big deal. I couldn't do a day at a time in the begining. I had to break it down into smaller bites. Keep coming back.emoticon

good for you nanalisa. Its a great start to a wonderful new life each day at a time. I bet you do feel wonderful and as time goes by that pink cloud will be replaced by something even more awesome and lasting. A movie sounds like a great way to celebrate. Just a word of caution try to make that movie before or after a meeting and make coffee or set up chairs!! Have a wonderful weekend!!

I'm sure this is minor compared to a lot of you who have been sober for months and years. But I have to celebrate just a little and announce that I have not had a drink in 10 days! AND I FEEL GREAT! I feel great about me! This was the best decision I have ever made and each day I feel better and better about myself!
Thank you for letting me brag a little...even though its not much, its a milestone for me! I think I'm gonna treat myself to a movie this weekend! Any suggestions?
Love you all and appreciate your support so much!

Just needed to post. 11 months today. Not a "regular" milestone but definitely a miracle (SD 3/15/11). :)

hello, hello to everyone. Please remember it gets better one day at a time. My sober date is 12/25/94. At times the only reason I stayed sober that first year was because I loved my sober date and in my crazed brain if i went back out i felt i would have to stay out for another whole year to get to that sober date again!! Anyway it worked and here I am thru the grace of a higher power. Each day that I simply fill my dogs water dish is grace and it is a freedom that still fills me with awe and reminds me of where I came from. There were many years that I was not capable of filling my dogs water dish, not capable of taking care of myself let alone an animal. Now I am blessed with 3 wonderful very well cared for dogs. That simply act keeps it green for me and for that i am grateful. I am so happy to have found spark people and it is changing my life each day. I love it and love chatting with everyone.
Spark People Rocks!!

My sobriety date is March 15, 2002. I have 3,437 days of contiguous sobriety..........9 years and 5 months....... one day at a time, with the grace of a loving God.

I try to hold fast to the truth that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits. When brimming with gratitude, one's heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love, the finest emotion that we can ever know. AS BILL SEES IT

Welcome welcome. Go to meetings, get a sponsor, and start working the steps. Life will get better if you work this program. Keep coming back.

Welcome to the team and to a new, sober life. Glad you found us, and AA too. Most people here will tell you that AA saved their lives, that their new lives are so much better now. Good luck on your journey.

My sober date is Feb 25/05. My last idiotic act was also much more recent than that. Go figure. We're human!

My last drink was Feb 25, 1977. My last idiotic act while sober with no alcohol to blame it on was, alas, much more recent.

Having an anniversary? Post it here and share your celebration. New to aa? Post the one, two, three, six and nine month celebrations too. New to this thread? Post your sobriety date too if you like.
