I buy sugar in the raw and can get it just about anywhere, even regular grocery stores. The kind I buy is in a brown box and it comes in either just a box of sugar or in little packets. (No assembly required! :)

Pardon my ignorance, but where can you find raw sugar?

I'm curious because from what I've been reading it's much healthier for you than "table" sugar.

My grocery sells sugar cane stalks -- is that raw sugar? And exactly how are you supposed to eat the stalks? Or do you grind them up, or what? Thanks!

From what I understand, it's a brand name for raw cane sugar, like turbinado.

What does everyone know about Sucanat? It is made from "100% organic cane sugar cane. It's minimally processed . . ." I used it for cooking for the first time yesterday. It is kind of like cyrstalized brown sugar.

Mmmm...bone char... And people wonder why food producers can't be trusted.

HFCS is not good for any one. White sugar can often be refined with bone char, which is why it's not vegan. Try to stick with stuff like sugar in the raw.

Anyone with a pulse should stay away from high fructose corn syrup. That and aspartame.

HCFCS - From what I have learned from Dr. Oz's book 'The You Diet' is that HCFCS shut off your brain sensors that recognize that you are full.

So I have avoided them. He recommends to avoid foods that have HCFCS listed in 1st five ingredients.

Since you're human, you should try to avoid HFCS, and most other refined sweeteners. *grin*

Honey, turbinado sugar, agave nectar, stevia...all are better alternatives.

I have been reading a lot about vegan and what do they eat. Since I am a vegan should I stay away from products that have high fructose corn syrup and bleach sugars. emoticon

People who choose to be vegan make a conscious decision to be aware of the suffering to which the average person is desensitized.
