SO glad to find someone else who doesn't like bananas in smoothies. I think it's practically heresy! Glad to have someone else on that team with me. LOL. I'll definitely have to try the mangos.
Another problem I have is not really liking to start my day with sweet. So I may either have to have smoothies at a different time of day, or find more substantial smoothies to start my day with. These are some interesting recipes. Thanks everyone,

K8

Some people think the “plant-based whole foods diet” is extreme. Half a million a year will have their chests opened up and a vein taken from their leg and sewn onto their coronary artery. Some people would call that extreme.

Thanks Diane. I will put it on my "Whole Foods" shopping list for my trip to Seattle on Monday the 22nd.

If you don't like banana, try some frozen mango. It has a surprisingly creamy consistency when blended.

Obviously, I'm a big Vega fan, too. For plain old vegan protein (Vega is more of a powdered meal) I prefer hemp because it is also a good source of fiber. I usually get it from Trader Joe's, but I have seen it at the Vitamin Shoppe, so I assume other GNC-type stores have it, too, and I know Whole Foods does, as well. Since it should only contain hemp and possibly vanilla or cocoa if it's flavored, the brand really doesn't matter. Other common single-origin vegan protein powders are soy, pea, and rice, but I have never used them individually (just as ingredients in pre-made blends.)

Hi Ruth! I use vega one all in one nutritional shake powder. I buy it at Whole Foods market! I especially like the chocolate one. Diane

Try different greens and see which ones you like. I like organic purple kale or organic baby spinach in my smoothies. Apples, oranges, bananas, berries... It all depends on my mood and what my body screams for. I really got in tune with what my body needs when I became Veg.

I've never used a Protein Powder. Any Vegan suggestions?? Like brand and where to buy?

Benton - sorry, either is fine, but I'm vegetarian for the most part.

Thanks for the recipes. I don't love bananas in my smoothies but I'm finding that I almost need that strong flavor to overpower the flavor of all the greens (yes, I'm new to this!)

Any other suggestions?

Mangocicle: 3 c greens, 2 c frozen mango, 1 banana, 1 scoop "natural" flavor Vega, 1 T amchur (mango powder), 1 c coconut milk, 1 c water.

Very, very, VERY Berry: 3 cups greens, 1 c frozen blueberries, 1 c frozen raspberries, 1 scoop berry Vega, 2 c cold hibiscus tea with berries (I use loose leaf from Adagio, but the Celestial Seasonings "Zinger" teas are the same type.)

Pumpkin Pie: 2 c greens, 2 carrots, 1 apple, 3/4 c puréed pumpkin, 1 scoop vanilla chai Vega, 1 cup plant milk, maple syrup/agave/stevia to taste, plus pre-made "pumpkin pie" spice -or- a combination of cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and/or clove.
