It's a misleading list. Glycerides in food are not particularly likely to come from animals. Lecithin used in food industries is almost invariably from soy. Lactic acid in sauerkraut and other fermented foods has nothing to do with milk at all; even human muscles can produce lactic acid through metabolism and exercise, not to mention you have lactic acid in your mouth from bacteria. Lutein in food, again, comes from plants. It's just commercially more viable to produce it from flowers than egg yolks. So unfortunately it's a sensationalist kind of list.

Carmine, a.k.a. Crimson Lake, Cochineal, Natural Red, C.I. 75470, or E120.

Also 'natural flavour' could come from anything, you need to check with manufacturer.

If you Google Non-Vegan Ingredients List several sites come up. You might want to print out a list for reference.

Read the ingredient list of veggie burgers very carefully. Many of them contain eggs. Are you following a vegan diet or a vegetarian diet? The answers are different for each.

I was wondering about the hidden animal products companies put in foods. I know gelatin is an obvious one. Are there others that you guys have come across? I'm talking about the ingredients that don't sound like animal by-products or products that use animals in their manufacturing, processing, ingredients, etc, that are otherwise not broken down ingredient by ingredient on food labels.

Thanks for your help and knowledge!
