Here's one that I like from Dr. Neal Barnard's book "Turn off the Fat Genes"

Baked Beans

2 1/2 Cups dried navy beans or other small white beans
1 onion, chopped
1 15 oz can tomato sauce
1/2 C molasses
2 tsp. stone ground or Dijon mustard
2 Tbsp. vinegar
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt

Rinse the beans thoroughly and soak in 6 cups water for 6 to 8 hours. Discard the water and place the beans and chopped onion in a pot with enough fresh water to cover the beans with 1 inch of liquid. Bring to a simmer, then cover and cook until beans are tender, 2 to 3 hours. Add the tomato sauce, molasses, mustard, vinegar, garlic. Cook, loosely covered, over very low heat for 1 to 2 hours. It can also me be placed in a crock pot for 2 to 3 hours or baked in the oven at 350 for 2 to 3 hours.

It has 129 calories per 1/2 cup.

I seldom eat baked beans. When I do have them I just buy the vegetarian baked beans from the grocery store.

IMVEGAN- Had you had any of them that you can recommend ?

Thanks for the link I will check it out and see if any sound like what I am looking for.

Gramma Browns baked beans you can stick a spoon in and it will stand straight up that is how thick they are. I have never made anything from non-canned beans that came out edible lol so i was hoping for a recipe that someone could personally recommend, maybe i can google it also . thanks for the link I will check it out for sure.

Hi there,

I am looking for a Vegetarian Baked Beans Recipe, preferably easy for crock pot.

I used to LOVE Gramma Browns Baked Beans, but they have bacon in them so I no longer buy them. If you have ever had this brand you know they are THICK & sweet, and yummy.

I have made a few recipes in my crock pot over the past year and and not a novice but certainly not a gormet cook either so , if you have a recipe that sounds like would help me please post it for me... please I am going though baked bean withdrawl. lol

Although OTHER canned beans are okayyyy they are soupier and not as sweet as Gramma Browns.

I called the Gramma Browns number and requested that they make a vegetarian version ... and the response was... WEll I highly doubt THAT will ever happen , and the lady was rather snippy... so i guess i will have to try to make my own... your loss gramma brown... I was willing to give you my money if you would have had a vegetarian version....
