I thought I'd pop on here and say I'm sorry for not checking in lately... we have had some crazy weekends lately and have just had to get our walks when we can. Tomorrow Rhonda doesn't have the car again. so I'm guessing we will just walk around the neighborhood here cause we can't get to the park. I hope everyone is doing good and walking away or running or riding. What every you all are enjoying. just know we are walking , we just can't get out anywhere...

No worries, I did get your email but it was after I had sent you a text. Salado and I met with Cindy, Kira, Shadow and her sister-in-law and we did a short walk. Weather wasn't the best but we had a good walk. I won't be there this coming Saturday as I'm joining others for the San Antonio Riders Rally kick start ride for the Tour de Cure.

I feel so bad, I sent James a text this morning to let him know that Rhonda and I wouldn't be walking at that time it was raining here at our apartments. But I had gotten up with a bad case of vertigo and wasn't able to get out anyway. I guess when I got my new phone it didn't import James number but instead it was his email. so I sent the text his email. Not sure that worked lol anyway, I am sorry we didn't get there. I told Rhonda to go but since it was raining she didn't get out either.

I'll see everyone in the morning at Lion's, weather permitting. Salado and I may put in a long walk tomorrow as Aprils around the corner and need test the legs.

Rhonda and I were just talking about this.. I think the South Side Lions, mostly because there is a ton of stuff going on downtown this weekend. the only thing is we can't be there till probably 8... and they are saying it might be raining and I can't health wise walk in the rain, so if its raining we won't come... I know most everyone likes to go earlier so if that's the case we will just catch up with you guys... other wise lets meet over at the trail head side of the park.

Hi, all. How about a walk in the morning? My sister-in-law should be with me and we will be going to Fredericksburg tomorrow, so not sure we will walk far, but we'd like to walk.
Blue Star? South Side Lions'? What sounds good to you guys?

Sherry, we park in the Blue Star parking lot--just exit off I-10 at Probandt, and go towards S. Alamo (towards downtown). Blue Star is a couple of blocks down, there is a decent sized parking lot, and we park right next to the trail.

I'm so sorry we didn't post earlier, and sorrier that you guys won't be walking with us. Can't speak for James, but Terry and I have had a heck of a week! )-: Hope you guys have a great week, and that you get to walk tomorrow. For next week, I think that Terry is going to run a 5K she signed up for. I haven't decided yet....James will probably walk. Would you guys like to try Mission Reach next week? Bluebonnets are already blooming (as of yesterday), it is beautiful!

Well since no one else chimed in here I'm gonna say South Side Lions this week, and then next week lets do the Mission reach end of the river walk, I think 7 am seems to be what most everyone likes... and it works for me. I have a bunch of studying to do over the weekend for a 4 hour test on Tuesday next week. I'm hoping walking early will kick my brain in real good... :)

I'm so looking forward to being able to meet with you guys one weekend, but as I said on the NE group page, I actually have 5Ks scheduled for the next two Saturdays, and the Saturday after that I have to host a book club, so I'm going to be out until mid-March. Hopefully I'll be back soon, and I can alternate between the two groups. I would *LOVE* to explore some of these places with you!

We did miss you guys. Even if we're not all walking together all the time, it's fun to link up a couple of times during the walk and check in.
Sounds like you have had an exhausting week. Hope you get some rest!
I'm up for nearly anyplace next week. We'll go wherever sounds good to everyone, unless there's someplace new that someone would like to try--like the greenway on the southside (need to look up the name and location).
Have a good week everyone!

Sounds like you all had a great time, bet you were happy not to have us slow pokes along to slow you down... The park there is lovely, we missed getting out but if you gotta work, what can you do.... and we got plenty of walking in this week, about 22 miles according to my counter... and my feet and legs are feeling it big time...
We can decide about next Saturday later this week, I'm ok with the park, but it just depends on if everyone whats to do that or go somewhere else.
missed you all...

We had a great time today! How nice is that trail! We headed up the South Salado Creek trail (SSC--anyone who walked from the Lady Bird Johnson trailhead probably saw NSC on the signs, we now realize that it meant North Salado Creek), going as far as it would take us. Round trip was about 6 miles. Salado Creek was up some at that point, as opposed to the trickle we usually saw further north. Lots of trees and birds, but was cool this morning. Did see a pack of stray dogs (smaller) on the other side of the creek, I think I will bring my walking stick or a poker next time, just in case.
After doing the trail, we went around the lake (a 5K was going on, so it was a little crowded) for one lap, or another mile. All in all, very nice!
We've tentatively planned to do Government Canyon on Monday, since we're taking off because it is a client holiday (James is doing a long bike ride), so if anyone is interested, let us know via this page, or send me or Terry an e-mail.
Not sure where we have planned for next weekend, let's stay in touch.

I just want to say Thank you to Terry, Shereen and James, they just walk circles around us, me mostly and they are so kind and patient with me... Thank you guys so much... I did 3.568 miles in a little less than 90 minutes... not to bad, that's 8488 steps for me. Avg of 2.3 mph, not breaking any records there. I do believe I'll do some more later today...
It is better than last week... which is good..

So if everyone wants to and its not raining, lets plan to walk at the South Side Lions park off of Pecan Valley... and if everyone wants to we can meet earlier that 8:30, 7:30 works for us or 8, just let me know what you all want to do. I'd love to walk around the lake several times...
if you go to the right when you pull into the park, and go as far as it goes there is a rest room there and good parking,

As always I enjoyed walking with everyone. Not sure what the plan is for next weekend but I'll be able to make the Saturday walk. Lion's park sounds interesting if that's what everyone wants to try.

I plan some more this afternoon and some squats... Thanks everyone... we can decide later in the week about next Saturday, but we already know a few can't come... I'm wondering if we should meet every other Saturday... let me know what you think about that...

This is gonna be so fun. I am gonna tell you guys, I am not a fast walker, short legs, but I don't want to hold anyone back so don't mind me and push on...

So we walked as far as the Mission Reach goes (for now)--to Padre Park, really pretty! There was a 5K going on the same time we walked called "Kinetic Kids," which made us run some the first part of our walk (we actually ran a couple of times during our walk, which made my "haunches" pretty sort). So many birds, including a mama goose and her goslings, it was really gorgeous! James, Terry, and I (and the pups, of course) had a great time, ended up going about 11 miles. Perfect day for a walk.
Look forward to meeting up next Saturday--if you want to go before 8:30, we're all supportive.

James, sounds good to me. Earlier is great as well, much before 7:30 is hard on a Saturday morning (I'm just tired), but if the vote is for earlier, then I'm all in. Would like to see what the Mission Reach looks like as we head on down the path, but I've never been to the 301 Grayson site, so am easy either way.
Just let me know where to show up and when. Thanks!

Looking to walk this Saturday if anyone is interested. Would either start at 300 East Grayson Street #101 or Blue Star area. I'll shoot for 830 unless anyone wants to start earlier I'll most likely start around 0650 to get a few miles in before the group walk. If interested message me and I'll send you my cell.

Amanda, I'm so sorry, since Rhonda has to work, we need to go early, I'm afraid if we wait that late, we wouldn't get to walk much at all.
We checked out South Side Lions park today, its really nice, there is a 1 mile track around the lake, and the a trail head to Salado Creek South greenway http://www.sanantonio.gov/parksandrec/pdfs/SaladoCreekSouth_map.pdf... which is 7.5 miles, I'm not sure if that is out and back or just out... but we will find out... if you copy and paste that link it gives a good picture and map...

9:30 or later is preferable for me. I could probably do 9:00 from time to time. :)

8:30 is a bit too early for me to get downtown on weekends - especially since I'm terrified to drive in that area - so I'm going to have to bow out. :( I hope you guys have fun!

I believe we will officially start on Feb 2, the folks at Run Wild Sports @ 300 East Grayson Street #101 San Antonio, TX 78215. (210) 223-9453. said we can park in their lot, we can use their rest rooms, we can leave keys and purses there with them and they will watch them for us and we can pick them up and use the rest rooms when we get back... they are only about a block from the river walk, and right close to the Farmers Market that is on Saturday. I think we can meet at 8:30, I think we can walk the Museum end one week and the Mission end the next week, plus I have 2 parks in mind, I also down loaded a few walking maps that are all down town , Kind Williams walks ... but we will start with the Museum Reach for our first week. if you would please send me a message I will send you my phone number so you can get hold of me if you need to. this is gonna be so fun... please feel free to bring family or pets also...

Me too, because I thought it might be another week or so. I can meet during the week (after work)--tonight we parked at the Blue Star (off of S. Alamo) and did the Mission Reach after work--what a great walk! Scenery is really nice, the river is pretty, and although they're not really obvious, you walk past the missions. We went about 3 miles out and 3 miles back, but it felt easy. So if you can do this after work, that would be good, too, although I know it might not be a possibility for Moms with families who have soccer practice, etc.

The NE group decided to meet this Saturday at Comanche, fyi, but I'd love to meet with different groups throughout the month!

I might be interested in meeting up at the River Walk ... I'm in the NW, near Sea World - but need buddies to walk with.

I might be able to make it from time to time. I realized after the walk on Saturday that I have a bit of a conflict on Saturdays - one of my writing groups is starting to meet that morning, and I also have a monthly book club then. Trying to juggle all three might not work so well, but I'll see what I can do. I'm not yet sure how strong the writing group will become - might flop, so then I'd have a lot more time! :)
